Silvia pushed the door open as she tried to exit her boss's office. It was her duty to make sure she cleaned the office every morning before his arrival.

“I am sorry, sir..” She bumped into her boss and mistakenly spilled a cup of water on his shirt. This was a really tense moment because she could see her boss fuming in great anger.

“What is the matter with you?” Ralph asked angrily. Ralph had just arrived at the office in a really bad mood, and this is not the best way to start his day. This shows how careless his Silvia is.

“I am really s,orry, sir” Silvia kept pleading to receive mercy from her boss. But Ralph is a man who hardly lets a mistake go unpunished.

“I will let you go today because it is just a cup of water. Next time, you'll be pleading that I should let you die”,he threatened, with a firm look on his face.

“Thank you ,so m. uch sir”,she scurried off from his sight before he would change his mind.

“That was close”, she said under her breath. She had other places to clean in the company as well.

“Good morning, Rebecca”, she said. She was on her way to the changing room when she met Rebecca gorgeously walking into the company.

Rebecca and Silbia have been friends since high school. Silvia was not opportuned to go to college anyway, but Rebecca had the opportunity, by the way.

“Hey, Silvia. You're looking tense this morning. I hope everything is alright” She could read through the expression on Silvia's face with ease.

“Yes, I just spilled a cup of water on the boss this morning. I barely escaped his wrath” she replied, as she heaved a deep sigh of relief.

“That was close. He's easy to anger” Rebecca smiled as she gave Silvia a soft pat on the back.

Rebecca walked to her office. While Silvia returned to her work.

When Silvia was done for the day, she used some little money she had in her to go for a little grocery shopping.

Her mother was alone at home, so she was eager to return on time so as to prepare lunch for her.

“Mum! I'm home!” She announced her presence as she entered the house.

The house was awfully quiet, and this caused her to worry. “Mum”, she called out as she walked towards her room.

She found the kettle whistling in the kitchen, so she quickly went to turn it off.

She looked very perplexed and troubled as she approached her mother's room.

She pushed the door open slowly, and her eyes were greeted by a rather troubling and shirking sight.

Her mother was lying on the ground, unconscious, and unaware of her environment.

“Mum! Mum!! Mum!!!”, she hurriedly rushed to where her mother was lying on the ground and tried to check if she had life in her.

Her mother wasn't responding to impulses, and there were droplets of blood on the ground.

She didn't find any injury on her mother's body. This insinuated that this was not a result of an injury.

Without wasting much time, Silvia who was trying to get a hold of her emotions grabbed her phone and called an ambulance.

In less than 2 minutes, the ambulance arrived at her house, and carried her straight to the hospital.

Silvia paced the waiting room as she waited to get a reply from the doctor or nurses who had carried her mother into the emergency ward.

Silvia was not ready to lose her mother now. Her mother is the only person she had while growing up.

She was single handedly raised and nurtured by her mother.

She watched her mother go through hell, just to make sure that she survived.

The only memory Silvia has about her father is seeing her father leaving the house for work when she was still 4 years old. Unluckily, her father didn't return again.

The only thing that came back was the news of his demise.

“Please, just sit down, ma. The doctor will be with you shortly”. The nurse standing at the reception tried to make Silvia calm.

“I can't. It is totally impossible. I can't be calm when my mother is inside there struggling for her life”. Silvia found it hard to accept the advice of the nurse.

Silvia didn't have a hold on her emotions again. She just broke down in tears because she felt so overwhelmed by what was happening around her.

While she was still trying to hold back the tears, the doctor walked out briskly into the reception.

“Doc! My mother, how is she?” she asked curiously. Her face was filled with so much worry and anxiety.

“Miss Silvia, right? The daughter of Mrs Theresa”, he enquired.

“Yes sir”, she affirmed with a nod.

“Follow me”, he said as he ushered her to his office. He gestured to her to take a seat, which she obliged to without wasting time.

Silvia's breathing and heart rate had gone up, and she could not stop sweating profusely, as anxiety just had the best of her.

“How is my mother? Talk to me doctor”, she pleaded. The doctor was just trying to brace himself while he sat properly on his chair.

“Relax ma'am. Your mother is fine. She is not dead. I need you to calm down,” he said.

A sensation that felt like a feeling of great ease just overwhelmed Silvia. She heaved a deep sigh of relief as she cleaned off the sweat on her face, with a scarf she was holding.

“Can I go and see her now?”, she made an attempt to stand up from the chair quickly.

“Wait! I haven't finished talking with you ma”, the doctor called her attention back immediately.

The doctor looked like he had something really serious to tell Silvia, and she could tell from the look on his face.

“Your mother, I found something. Here is the test result”, he handed the result report to her.

Silvia could not read the report she was seeing on the piece of paper. “What is this, sir?” She asked curiously with a very perplexed look on her face. “Your mother, I am sorry ma'am. Your mother has a hole in her heart”, he broke the news to her. “A hole? Doctor, I don't understand. A few minutes ago, you were the person telling me that my mother was in good condition..” Silvia, who had gotten a hold of her emotions, was now worried again. She looked confused, perplexed, and anxious at the same time. It was very hard to read which emotion was dominant at the moment. “I know, your mother is OK for now. But she slumped because her heart skipped a beat. This was solely because she had a hole in her heart” the doctor explained. “You should have a solution. Isn't there a solution, sir?” She asked. It's a good thing Silvia loves to look for a way out of any problem she finds herself in. “That's good thinking. There is a way out. It's going to cost a lot” The doctor gave her a warni

The office was filled with cold silence as the two parties just kept staring at each other. Ralph was trying to read her expression, while Silvia was just nervous. “I didn't hear you well. Do you mind repeating what you just said?” Ralph asked firmly. The way his tone sounded drove fear into Silvia's nerves. “Please sir, I…I need… I need your help, sir,” She stuttered. It was evident that her fear had the most of her. She was literally sweating in an air-conditioned office. “What do you need me to do? What is it all about?” He asked curiously. Even if he decides to help her, he needs to know where his money is going. That's how a businessman thinks. “My mother. She needs a heart transplant immediately, and I don't have enough resources to foot the bill” Silvia explained “How much are we looking at?” Ralph asked. The conversation was moving quite easier and faster than Silvia had presumed. “One million dollars. That's the cost for the transplant” She dropped the bomb on Ralph

Silvia found it hard to process what her boss was saying. They haven't ever had a close discussion other than this one time, and now he is asking her to marry him. She doesn't even know anything about her boss's lifestyle, his preferences, and anything he hates. “Did I say anything wrong?” Ralph noticed that Silvia was lost in her thoughts as she tried to unravel the mystery behind his request. After Ralph had a deep dig into his brain last night, he decided to propose a contract marriage to Rosaline. It was going to help him save the cost of paying workers for his house. Because Silvia was going to work as a maid for him. The contract was going to last for one year if Silvia agreed. In return, he will pay up her mother's hospital bills, and make sure that the heart transplant is done immediately. “I can't marry you, sir. We don't know anything about each other. So, how do you expect us to share a romantic moment?” Silvia asked. “This is not a marital or romantic proposal. This

Where is my mother?” Silvia asked as she angrily pushed the doctor's office open. “You're here already. That's a good thing” The doctor stretched his hand, requesting that she have a seat. But Silvia was seriously pissed. She wasn't ready to sit down and have a peaceful talk with the doctor. “I can't find my mother in her ward,” she said angrily. The doctor, who now understood the reason behind her deep anger, started laughing very hard. Silvia just stood in shock, as she tried to check if there was anything on her that could amuse the doctor. “Your mother. She is in a private ward, and some doctors are trying to run some tests on her because of her surgery tomorrow” the doctor said. Silvia, who was not informed about anything of that sort, had to take a seat first before she would continue the conversation. “I don't understand. The surgery. But who paid for the surgery?” She asked confusingly, with a puzzled expression. “A man called. He refused to disclose who he was. All
