Ophelia
“Ryan, come here,” he giggled and ran behind the couch. I sneaked up to him and caught him, tickling his sides. His laughter makes me smile.
“Mama, stop,” he said amidst laughter. “Next time champ, don't stress mummy” I said, not stopping.
“Stop,” he said and ran away from me. I ran after him, trying to catch up to him. Instead of eating, he has been running around refusing to eat.
“Dada,” I heard Ryan say, and I stopped running. I straightened my body and looked at the door.
Ryder carried Ryan and kissed his head. His eyes met mine for a brief moment before returning them back to Ryan.
I returned to the kitchen to clear up the mess Ryan made.
“Mum asked of you.” I heard Ryder's voice behind me, and I slightly jumped, not expecting him in the kitchen.
“What?” I asked while turning to him. Ryan was still in his arms.
“We have a family function this weekend,” He said, maintaining eye contact with me, and I removed my eyes from his.
Since the night he said I should stay away from him. I have avoided him like a plague, barely seeing him.
He leaves early to work without eating the food I prepare. He comes back late every night which made me surprised to see him back early. He takes Ryan with him every night so I had little interaction with him.
Now seeing him, I didn't know what to do or say to him.
“I will pack Ryan's bag” I nodded my head and wanted to walk out.
“He is not coming with us. He will be with your mom” I raised my head.
“Why? You said it is a family function” I didn't want to go with just Ryder. Ryan has been the reason why I haven't been with him in the same space.
“I don't want Ryan to be sick on the long journey.” That made sense. I nodded and left the kitchen leaving him and Ryan.
I hope this weekend goes well.

“Ophelia darling, you look so beautiful,” Sandra said, hugging me and kissing me on my two cheeks.
“Thank you. It is pleasant seeing you again” I smiled at her. Beside her was Jacob.
“Welcome my child,” he said, patting my head. I smiled at him.
“Come on, everyone is here already,” Sandra said and led the way.
“Just stay quiet and smile,” Ryder said beside me as we followed Sandra and Jacob.
I looked at him and saw his attention fix forward. I nodded slightly and we reached a very big dining room. A very big long table occupied the middle with chairs around it. It was in a golden yellow color with ornaments. It looked so beautiful and cutesy.
My eyes landed on the people in the room. There were about 12 people in the room. Their eyes all fell on me making me uncomfortable under their gaze
“Everyone meet Ophelia, Ryder's Wife” Sandra introduced me to them. The silence in the room was unsettling.
Ryder looked comfortable and nonchalant while I was freaking out. Even without knowing, I held my breath, waiting for the silence to be broken.
“Ophelia? When did Olivia change her name?” My eyes widened. A girl about my age asked. I looked at Sandra to help me out but she didn't say anything.
“Ophelia is Olivia's twin sister right? Then why is she here and not Olivia? And as Ryder's Wife?” Another question came from another girl.
I was confused. Didn't they know anything about Olivia's death and my marriage to Ryder? They are family right? They should know.
“We haven't told you, but Olivia is dead.” I heard Ryder take a deep breath. The others looked surprised except for 5 faces who looked at Ryder in concern.
“This is Ophelia, Olivia's identical twin. She is Ryder's Wife and Ryan's mother,” Sandra explained, and I couldn't be more grateful to her.
“Fucking hell,” I heard a curse out, and that was the beginning of the insults.
“She married her sister's husband?”
“I didn't know she was a slut”
“I can't believe they look so much alike, how come I didn't know her?”
“She isn't even pretty as Olivia”
“She must be fake”
Hearing all their curses, hot tears burnt at the back of my eyes and I barely was able to keep my eyes open. I looked at Ryder and saw him staring at the space.
He didn't even try to defend me or stop them from uttering such words against me. What did I expect? That he was going to claim me as his and defend me?
He made it clear on the first day. I would never be his wife. I will never take Olivia's space in his heart. But I was still married to him.
Sandra looked at me with pity. “Everyone” Jacob's voice bounced in the room, causing silence to descend. “That is not a way of welcoming someone. No one will speak a word against my daughter-in-law again. If you don't want to be here, you can as well leave”
I looked at him with teary eyes. I saw my father in him. He defended me when no one did. My respect for him doubled.
“Here, you can sit here.” A man with black hair pulled out a chair for me, and I murmured thank you before sitting. Ryder took the seat next to me.
“I would like to thank everyone for honoring this invitation and creating time from their busy schedule. And I would also like to welcome Ophelia into the family.” She smiled at me, and I smiled back faintly.
After Sandra addressed everyone, the chef and maid brought the food to the table. The take was full of different types of food. Even some I have never eaten.
“Let's pray,” Sandra said, and she prayed. “For this food, we are grateful to you, Lord. Provide for the needy and continue to bless us”
“Amen,” we all chorused.
Everyone started dishing their food. Ryder was talking to a girl who was sitting by his side. I took a plate of pie and dropped some for him on his plate.
I wanted to serve some for myself when a wincing voice stopped me.
“Don't you know Ryder doesn't like peanuts?”
I looked down at the plate of peanut
“Erm, I didn't know,” I said, my cheeks heating up in embarrassment as everyone's attention was on me. The lady who spoke gave me a dirty glare.
“How are you supposed to know? Olivia knew all this.” I looked down at the food, my appetite was gone, and I dropped the plate of peanut pie.
I felt Ryder's gaze on me. He should have stopped me from putting it on his plate. He should have said something, but instead, he allowed them to compare me to Olivia again.
“I am sorry” I turned to Ryder without looking at him and stood up. “Excuse me,” I said to them and left the dining room. I walked towards the front door as I didn't know anywhere else in the house.
I sat beside the small fountain and dipped my hand into the water.
I closed my eyes and raised my face up, enjoying the sunlight on my face. I started relaxing, almost forgetting the earlier incident.
“Your skin is beautiful under the sun.” A voice frightened me, and I opened my eyes. I wasn't ready for another insult so I decided to take my leave.
“Hey, you don't have to run from me.” She smiled at me. “I am Elina.” She stretched her hand for a handshake.
I looked from her to her hand debating what to do in my head. What if she was just pretending? What if she wants to make a mockery of me?
But she seems nice. Looks can be deceiving though.
“Oh, I see. You don't trust me, especially after what happened earlier.” Obviously, I wasn't just going to get with anyone who came for a handshake.
“You don't have to be scared. I am very nice and friendly. Please” she said, giving me a cute look. She did look innocent.
“I am Ophelia,” I said, taking her hand in mine.
Her smile grew bigger. “I think everyone knows that one already”
Hi my lovely readers❤️. I am so glad you decided to gave this book a chance. I hope I will make it worth your time. Anyways, Let me know what you think so far and if you love it, make sure to leave a precious gemstone.Thank you and take care.
Ophelia It turned out Elina was different. She was free with me and she eventually made me free with her. She brought my food alongside hers to eat with me.She had a good sense of humor, cracking me up every time. “You know you can stop smiling sheepishly,” she teased.“Your story is interesting” I shrugged my shoulders and continued stuffing food in my mouth. She shook her head, making her blond hair fall on her face. I took time roaming my eyes through her features. She was beautiful. The kind of beauty that makes men turn and gasp.“If you don't stop staring at me like that, I might think you are gay” “I might as well give it a thought,” I said, and she rolled her eyes. “Flirt,” she teased. “Want to see something?” She asked when we finished our food. I nodded my head and she took my hand in hers, taking me with her.We stopped in the middle of an array of roses. “A garden?” I asked, looking around in awe.“Yes, this is my mum's favorite place in the house. She comes here to c
Ophelia “I’m sorry,” a voice said, and I looked up. The woman holding the tray of what had just crashed was staring at me with an unsettling glint in her eyes.“I didn’t see you there… I mean, I didn’t see anyone there,” she added, glancing over at Ryder, her expression shifting instantly. “I didn’t mean to spill the wine on her. It slipped from my hands” She moved closer, pretending to help me clean up but she was only making it worse by spreading the stain further across my dress.“Sophia, stop it—you’re making it worse,” Elina snapped.“It’s not like the dress looks expensive, so it shouldn’t be too hard to clean up,” Sophia muttered, her tone dripping with sarcasm. I held her gaze, struggling to stay calm and trying to read her intentions.“Elina, please take Ophelia to the bathroom so she can clean up,” Ryder said, and my eyes shot to him.“That’s all you have to say to her?” I asked, disbelief tightening my voice.“She apologized for spilling the wine on you. What else is there
OpheliaImmediately I entered the living room, Ryder's eye met mine from across the room. His eyes lingered on me.His eyes trailed slowly over me, from my head to my feet, pausing just briefly enough that I noticed. When our eyes met again, his Adam's apple bobbed, and he turned away as if brushing off a thought."Looks like Ryder's more affected by you than he wants to show," Elina whispered in my ear before she walked off toward David, leaving me with that thought lingering. Affected by me? I looked at him again but his attention was already on something else. I think she is reading his expression wrong. Before I could cross the room after Elina, Sandra stepped into my path. “I am really sorry, Ophelia, for everything you've been put through. I should have prevented all this.”“None of this is your fault, Sandra. It would have happened eventually, regardless.” I smiled at her.She pulled me into a warm hug taking me by surprise, and I could feel the genuine care radiating from her
Ophelia Sophia’s smirk told me she was enjoying every second of my discomfort, and I could feel everyone’s eyes on me, waiting.“Um…” I laughed nervously, glancing down at my hands. “That’s a bit personal, don’t you think?”“Come on, Ophelia,” Elina nudged me gently. “It’s all in good fun.”I took a deep breath, deciding to keep my answer as vague as possible. “Well… yes, I suppose I have.”There was a ripple of murmurs, and a few raised eyebrows, “Alright, who’s the person?”Then I noticed Ryder, leaning against the back of the couch, his gaze fixed on me with a curious intensity that made my heart skip.If I call Ryder's name, it will raise more questions. Questions I don't want to answer. Before I could go back on my decision, I blurted the first name I could think of. “Dave,” I said slowly and added, “my friend from work”There was silence for a moment.David, as if sensing my discomfort, spun the bottle again. This time it landed on him. “Truth,” he said, grinning, clearly eager
Ophelia After changing into my navy blue satin pajamas, I stared back at my reflection in the mirror. The bathroom was more luxurious than my entire apartment in London and it was freaking me out.Knowing I would be sharing a room with Ryder that night was messing with my sanity. After the kiss we shared, we have not said a word to each other. We were just avoiding each other's gaze, more like I was avoiding his gaze but he was no different.Letting out a deep breath, I made my way out of the bathroom. He was sitting on the bed, scrolling through his mobile. Realizing I was in the room, he lifted his head and spared me a glance.I ignored him and went to the dressing table. I combed my hair to remove all the tangles I got from the shower. Letting my hair loose, I contemplated whether to join him or the bed or not.I was relieved when he stood from the bed and walked out of the room. Using that chance, I hopped on the bed, covering my body with the duvet and keeping my mobile by the b
OpheliaAt the loud voice, the head cook ran into the dining room. “Who made this food?” Sophia asked again. “I am sorry if there is an issue with the food, ma; it won’t happen again,” the head cook apologized, bowing his head.Nothing was wrong with the food, I prepared them myself. I looked at everyone's faces as they ate the food. Their expressions were unreadable.“I just need to know the person who made the food,” Sophia insisted. The head cook raised his head and looked at me but didn't say anything.“Sophia I-” “I made the food, ma,” the head cook answered, breaking my sentences off. This could cost him his job. Maybe I shouldn't have gone to the kitchen but I was still confused. Nothing was wrong with the food.I took my fork and ate the pancake on it. It was okay!“This is the best food you have ever made,” Sophia said, and others nodded in approval, their faces smiling.Hearing that, my chewing slowed down and my heart calmed down.“It tastes so good. Aunty, I might stea
OpheliaAs Ryder drove, I couldn't help but glance at Ryder's profile. The hard lines of his face softened slightly, his usual tension seemed to fade away. I turned to him, catching a slight smile on his face, subtle but real. "Where are we going?" I asked, the curiosity bubbling up. I was not able to contain my curiosity."You will see," he replied, his eyes on the road, still with that hint of a smile. He didn't say anything else, leaving me in suspense. We left the busy city streets behind and drove into the open countryside. Trees and fields surrounded us, and a soft breeze filtered in through the windows.Eventually, Ryder pulled off the main road and onto a narrow road leading to a hilltop. He parked the car and looked over at me, something unreadable in his eyes. “Come on,” he said, opening his door and stepping outConfusion was etched on my face. Was he trying to lure me to the hilltop and kill me? Or push me from the top? If he, by chance, kills me, nobody will know what h
Ophelia Getting back, we went to get Ryder and I spent the rest of my day with him. Ryder had work to do so he was locked up in his home office. The house wasn't cold as it was and a flicker of hope rose in me. Maybe, just maybe it can be good for me.The next morning, I woke up early and got to the kitchen to make breakfast for Ryan and Ryder. After a few minutes in the kitchen, I was done and pleased with my work. I went to Ryder's room and knocked on the door.Immediately, the door opened and Ryder stood In front of me, dressed in a suit. His hair was styled and he smelt so nice.“Good afternoon, I greeted him and he raised an eyebrow. “Breakfast is ready,” I said, smiling softly. He looked at me for a few moments before giving me the answer that sunk my hope. “I am not hungry”“Please feed Ryan; he has been up for some while,” he added as he was already walking out the hall. What changed between the previous day and now? Why did he act so cold to me? He looked more distant to m
