Ophelia
Sophia’s smirk told me she was enjoying every second of my discomfort, and I could feel everyone’s eyes on me, waiting.
“Um…” I laughed nervously, glancing down at my hands. “That’s a bit personal, don’t you think?”
“Come on, Ophelia,” Elina nudged me gently. “It’s all in good fun.”
I took a deep breath, deciding to keep my answer as vague as possible. “Well… yes, I suppose I have.”
There was a ripple of murmurs, and a few raised eyebrows, “Alright, who’s the person?”
Then I noticed Ryder, leaning against the back of the couch, his gaze fixed on me with a curious intensity that made my heart skip.
If I call Ryder's name, it will raise more questions. Questions I don't want to answer. Before I could go back on my decision, I blurted the first name I could think of. “Dave,” I said slowly and added, “my friend from work”
There was silence for a moment.
David, as if sensing my discomfort, spun the bottle again. This time it landed on him. “Truth,” he said, grinning, clearly eager to avoid any daring stunts.
The game continued, the bottle spinning from person to person. Laughter filled the room as dares grew bolder and truths grew deeper, revealing small secrets and playful teasing. Finally, the bottle landed on Ryder, and Elina grinned mischievously.
“Truth or dare?” she challenged.
Ryder’s mouth twitched. “Dare.”
Elina’s eyes sparkled. “I dare you to kiss your wife for 5 minutes in front of everybody.”
I froze in my seat, my eyes meeting Ryder's. “Another dare, Elina” He requested.
“Sorry, nephew, we all want this, right?” Syliva directed the question to everyone and they all nodded their heads.
“You can give up the latest blue sports car in your garage, what is the name again?” David added mischievously.
‘Please say no, please say no’ I pleaded silently.
I felt a touch on my hand and I raised my head to meet Ryder's eyes. He lifted me to a standing position and took a step closer to me.
“Kiss, kiss, kiss, kiss, kiss, kiss,” Elina chanted, and they all joined her.
They stopped as Ryder moved his hand against my chin, taking my hair away from my face.
My heart started beating fast, almost jumping out of my chest. Butterflies in my stomach seemed to be restless as they danced.
Ryder's hand brushed my cheek, his touch causing an electric current through my body, sending a shiver down my spine.
The room was silent, the air filled with anticipation. I could feel every eye on us, which didn't help in calming me down.
I was nervous and eager at the same time. He leaned in slowly, his eyes flicking to my lips before closing and I swallowed hard, trying to keep my breathing steady.
I closed my eyes as his lips met mine. He lingered for a movement before moving. The kiss started gently, his warm and soft lips against mine. His hand slid to the small of my back, pulling me closer and I felt the heat between us rise.
His lips pressed deeper into mine, his movements drawing me in and intoxicating me. The world around us faded, leaving only us in the moment.
I could only feel the sensation of his touch, his scent, the warmth of his body, and his warm lips on mine.
A soft moan escaped me, and he responded by tilting my face and deepening the kiss, his fingers threading through my hair. I ran my hand through his hair, pulling it in the process, and a deep sound came from his throat. Every inch of my body was on fire, my heart thudding in my chest as though it might burst out.
Someone cleared their throat, breaking the trance between us. Ryder pulled back slowly, resting his head on mine to catch his breath.
We were both breathing heavily. His gaze lingered on me before he finally stepped away. I could feel the blush burning on my cheeks as I was in everyone's line of sight.
“Guess the dare is complete,” Ryder said, his voice low and controlled as if he was as affected and shaking as I was.
The room erupted in whistles, claps, and laughter, breaking the tension of the moment. Elina’s eyes sparkled with mischief and satisfaction while David gave Ryder an approving nod.
I managed a shaky smile, though I could barely focus. I was still feeling Ryder’s touch like a lingering warmth. He held my gaze for a beat longer, his expression unreadable, and then he finally walked back to his seat.
I sat and Elina leaned over, whispering to me, “That was quite a show. I think everyone is convinced now.”
“Convinced of what?” I asked, my curiosity pricking.
“That you are Ryder's woman,” she said and started teasing Ryder.
I laughed softly, trying to brush off the heat rising to my face, but I couldn’t ignore the unfamiliar flutter in my chest.
The kiss may have been just a dare, but to me, it wasn't. It was something I have always wanted. It was something I have always wanted the taste of. It was my first kiss.
Something in Ryder’s eyes told me it also wanted the kiss. There is also a possibility that what I read in his eyes after the kiss might mean he feels more about me. And, deep down, a part of me wished it did.
Ophelia After changing into my navy blue satin pajamas, I stared back at my reflection in the mirror. The bathroom was more luxurious than my entire apartment in London and it was freaking me out.Knowing I would be sharing a room with Ryder that night was messing with my sanity. After the kiss we shared, we have not said a word to each other. We were just avoiding each other's gaze, more like I was avoiding his gaze but he was no different.Letting out a deep breath, I made my way out of the bathroom. He was sitting on the bed, scrolling through his mobile. Realizing I was in the room, he lifted his head and spared me a glance.I ignored him and went to the dressing table. I combed my hair to remove all the tangles I got from the shower. Letting my hair loose, I contemplated whether to join him or the bed or not.I was relieved when he stood from the bed and walked out of the room. Using that chance, I hopped on the bed, covering my body with the duvet and keeping my mobile by the b
OpheliaAt the loud voice, the head cook ran into the dining room. “Who made this food?” Sophia asked again. “I am sorry if there is an issue with the food, ma; it won’t happen again,” the head cook apologized, bowing his head.Nothing was wrong with the food, I prepared them myself. I looked at everyone's faces as they ate the food. Their expressions were unreadable.“I just need to know the person who made the food,” Sophia insisted. The head cook raised his head and looked at me but didn't say anything.“Sophia I-” “I made the food, ma,” the head cook answered, breaking my sentences off. This could cost him his job. Maybe I shouldn't have gone to the kitchen but I was still confused. Nothing was wrong with the food.I took my fork and ate the pancake on it. It was okay!“This is the best food you have ever made,” Sophia said, and others nodded in approval, their faces smiling.Hearing that, my chewing slowed down and my heart calmed down.“It tastes so good. Aunty, I might stea
OpheliaAs Ryder drove, I couldn't help but glance at Ryder's profile. The hard lines of his face softened slightly, his usual tension seemed to fade away. I turned to him, catching a slight smile on his face, subtle but real. "Where are we going?" I asked, the curiosity bubbling up. I was not able to contain my curiosity."You will see," he replied, his eyes on the road, still with that hint of a smile. He didn't say anything else, leaving me in suspense. We left the busy city streets behind and drove into the open countryside. Trees and fields surrounded us, and a soft breeze filtered in through the windows.Eventually, Ryder pulled off the main road and onto a narrow road leading to a hilltop. He parked the car and looked over at me, something unreadable in his eyes. “Come on,” he said, opening his door and stepping outConfusion was etched on my face. Was he trying to lure me to the hilltop and kill me? Or push me from the top? If he, by chance, kills me, nobody will know what h
Ophelia Getting back, we went to get Ryder and I spent the rest of my day with him. Ryder had work to do so he was locked up in his home office. The house wasn't cold as it was and a flicker of hope rose in me. Maybe, just maybe it can be good for me.The next morning, I woke up early and got to the kitchen to make breakfast for Ryan and Ryder. After a few minutes in the kitchen, I was done and pleased with my work. I went to Ryder's room and knocked on the door.Immediately, the door opened and Ryder stood In front of me, dressed in a suit. His hair was styled and he smelt so nice.“Good afternoon, I greeted him and he raised an eyebrow. “Breakfast is ready,” I said, smiling softly. He looked at me for a few moments before giving me the answer that sunk my hope. “I am not hungry”“Please feed Ryan; he has been up for some while,” he added as he was already walking out the hall. What changed between the previous day and now? Why did he act so cold to me? He looked more distant to m
OpheliaWhen we entered the house, Ryder started instructing his guards while I went to put Ryan on my bed so that he could sleep well. When I returned to the living room, Ryder had dismissed the guards. As I stepped into the living room, his eyes turned to me, stormy and dark.“Did you even think for a second?” He started, his voice calm. But I knew and could feel the undercurrent of anger beneath his voice. “ How could you leave the house without the driver?” “I didn't think of a need to go with him. I knew my way” I answered, careful not to make him more angry.“Exactly. You didn't think. Do you know what would have happened to you if I had not come there at the right time? Should I tell you what was going to go wrong?” He asked, his voice raising as he spoke.“I am sorry. I didn't know all this was going to happen. I just wanted to get groceries. I didn't know people were going to recognize me so quickly and even judge me”He scoffed with a mocking look. “Of course, anyone would
Ophelia I looked at the caller ID and it was Dave.“I know it is you, Dave,” I said.“Well, you answered like you didn't know who I was, so I thought I would give you a little scare” he chuckled“Sorry, I didn't check my phone before picking up the call,” I apologized and rubbed my forehead, trying to ease the ache.“Are you alright? Is he treating you well?” he asked, sounding concerned.“I am alright. The media is just making a fuss about my marriage with Ryder,” I replied.“Hope they are not causing any harm to you. How is Ryder handling the situation? If things are getting out of hand, I have a friend that works over there at the major media house, I can ask for his help”My heart flustered. His genuine concern brought a tightness to my throat, and I felt tears prickling. Dave and Lily were the only people who didn't judge me for who I was.Or maybe it’s just because they never knew Olivia. I pushed the thought aside and answered him.“There is nothing to worry about. I am safe.
OpheliaThe next morning, I woke up to a full ache in my chest and a banging headache. Dragging myself out of the bed, I went straight to the bathroom and stood In front of the mirror, staring at my reflection. My eyes were swollen from crying, and my skin looked pale against the morning light filtering through the curtains.I immediately brushed my teeth and took my bath. Throwing on sweatpants and a tank top, I tied my hair into a loose bun and headed to the kitchen. If nothing else, I could at least prepare breakfast and distract myself from everything going on with me.“Mama” Ryan's voice took my attention as I lazily walked into the kitchen. I halted and turned, he was running towards me. “Ryan!” I exclaimed, my heart swelling as I rushed toward him. He giggled, his little arms reaching for me. I scooped him up, holding him tightly as tears streamed down my face, I couldn't control them. “Oh, I missed you so much, baby,” I whispered, kissing his chubby cheeks. I kissed him a
Ryder Sitting down in the boardroom filled with hums of low conversations and papers shuffling, my mind was not present.I sat at the head of the long table, staring at my presentation on my laptop but all I could see was Ophelia's tear-streaked face. Her words kept playing in my head, unable to believe some of what she said. She has never raised her voice when speaking to anyone, but today I saw another side of her. And that side stirred up something deep inside me.Damn it.I gripped the edge of the table until my knuckles turned white. This wasn’t supposed to happen. I wasn’t supposed to be affected by her.“Mr. Smith,” someone called, pulling me out of my thoughts.“Yes?” My voice was sharp, and I didn’t miss the slight flinch from the junior associate speaking to me.“We are waiting for your input on the merger strategy,” he said with a slight bow.I nodded curtly, forcing my attention to the screen of my laptop. I wasn't following the meeting but I had the report with me. Skim
