The man’s brow raised, but I continued smiling at him.
“A job?” He asked. I nodded.
“Yes, but I’d like to ask some questions first.” He just continued staring at me. And with the way he was doing it, unmoving and tracing his eyes around my body, it made me slightly uncomfortable.
I cleared my throat, making his eyes look back up at my face. I regained my formal smile.
“May I know your name?” I asked.
“Levi,” I moved closer to them and offered a hand for a handshake.
The man just stared at my hand, but I didn’t take it down immediately.
“I’m Jennifer Allistair, and I’m looking for someone around here to have a deal with.”
“A deal?” He asked once again, sounding like a recorder now with the way he was just repeating my words. I would have found amusement in this if only he wasn’t looking at my face with such a careful expression.
He was being cautious, and I feel like he finds this conversation shady. I understand that, but he was giving me such a look that was giving me a warning to back off. That kind of threw me off.
I withdrew my hand that he never took and stood taller. But I kept my smile, smaller now, though, but I can’t let this intimidate me.
“Yes.” I answered briefly.
“Ah,” recognition suddenly registered in his face. Relief washed over me and my smile grew bigger.
“Are you the woman offering a job in the House?” He raised a brow. I nodded.
“Do you know, Tim Rivers?” I quickly asked, wanting to know whether he had any relation or connection with the guy that I immediately grew fond of. That could be a huge help to break the ice between us.
Thankfully, he nodded slowly, still casually sitting on the ridge of the sidewalk. Despite his washed over black jeans and dirty white shirt, he looked like he was posing for an ad there. That's how good he looks. And he knows about business!
Jackpot!
“Yeah, I grew up with him. Why?” I controlled myself from not smiling too much.
“I talked to him earlier.” He just looked at me and didn’t speak. I cleared my throat and composed myself.
“Do you also live in the House, perhaps?” I asked, holding my breath. I really need someone quick, and I can’t let this opportunity pass with him.
He shifted on his seat and put both of his hands on his knees. Still with a careful look, he turned towards the kid who was just listening to us quietly on his side.
“Jeffy, why don’t you go back home and show your Mama the sales you made today? I bet she’d be happy.” He smiled at the kid beside him, showing a very subtle dimple on his left cheek; his intimidating look immediately shifted to that sweet guy I saw of him earlier.
It was amazing how his face could turn so sweet and so intimidating at the same time. He’s just perfect for this. People wouldn’t doubt he was from the upper class.
“Okay.” The kid, Jeffy, mumbled. I looked at him and I could see how he was holding onto his jar of candies tightly. I smiled at the kid. A kid with a clear vision of his dream this young should be nurtured.
“Lady,” he suddenly turned to me. I turned to him and smiled wider, which encouraged him to continue speaking.
“Can I get a job, too? I heard you pay a lot of money from the guys in the House.” He blinked up at me with his innocent brown eyes.
“Jeffy,” I was just about to respond to the kid’s innocent question, feeling my heart out to him, but the guy, Levi, spoke up.
“Go home. We’ll get you something to do tomorrow.” Levi glanced at my figure with that same careful look in his gray eyes. It closed in on me like an arrow ready to shoot.
“And remember not to trust just anybody, especially as a businessman. Understand?” He turned to the kid again and squeezed his arm.
My brows raised at his words. Did he just initiate that I was untrustworthy?
Fine. He has a point since they really don’t know me and my random job offer, but that still hurts my ego.
“Okay, I’ll see you soon, Lev.” Levi nodded at the kid as he started waving while running towards the darker side of the street. There was barely a post that had electricity in this area.
I followed the kid’s running figure, kind of worried for him. The place was almost pitch black.
“I stay in the House, what about it?”
Levi’s deep voice suddenly took me out of my worried state for the kid. His house might be around there, and this guy didn’t seem to be worried for him.
I turned towards him, seeing the same suspicious look in his face. “And what is this thing you’re offering in the House? What kind of job is it?”
I met his eyes, not backing away despite how it turned to that almost piercing look once again.
Okay. He lives in the House, the escort house, so he might be up for this. I kept my formal smile again.
“It’s still kind of an escorting job, but it’ll be exclusive.” His thick brows arched once again in that careful and investigative way. But a small smirk suddenly made its way on his structured face.
“Exclusive?” Those intense eyes of his looked at my body up and down again.
“Do you want to play with just one toy exclusively?” His small smirk started becoming malicious—insulting. He put one of his hands behind him on the ground and watched me with both amusement and malice in his eyes. He scoffed.
“A word of advice, miss. A girl as decently looking as you are should stay away from this kind of trouble. Go get a boyfriend you can play with. Some of these guys may be jerks, but some are just really trying to survive life this way because they had no one teaching them how to before.” His amused look and malicious smirk went away in a snap, suddenly transforming into a serious cold look that almost threw me off once again.
“Go home.”
I stared, astounded at his words as he stood up from his seat on the ground and started walking away from the place. He towered over me for the couple of seconds he stood near before he continued on the empty street.
What did he just say?
He walked past me, and despite how tall and large he was, I took a step, touched his arm and faced him.
I did my best not to glare. “I am not here to play with anyone. I am here, offering for a serious job, mister.”
The man, Levi, turned to face me. And I held my stance when I was met with his hard gray eyes. That malicious smirk of his came back.
“Looking for an applicant in an escort house? And you just basically told me you still want them to do escorting.” He shook his head.
“Go home to your Daddy, girl. Spend your money elsewhere,” he said harshly and immediately turned his back to me.
I gaped at him. How dare—uh!
“Hey!” Angry now, I followed his long strides and pulled his arm hard, making him turn fully towards me again.
“I came here as decently as I could. I had people telling the guys that I want someone serious for a job. And I am not here to play or spend my money like a rich spoiled girl, like how you insisted I was. I came to talk to you and asked as decently as I could whether you knew business or not. I know what I’m doing, and you have no right to speak to me so rudely without even knowing what the real situation is.”
I heaved deep and fast breaths after I finished. I didn’t hold back anymore and glared at the prideful jerk in front of me. If he didn’t like what was happening, he at least could have told me straight-up he didn’t want any involvement in this and not insinuate anything about me being a spoiled rich girl just here to play because I was bored with my life.
Levi, the jerk, just looked at me, unfazed. He didn’t even look at least taken aback at how angry I had gotten. He just stared at me as if I was just a girl who knew nothing about life.
What an arrogant prick!
He turned his huge frame towards me, facing me fully and suddenly crossed his arms in front of his chest.
“Alright,” he started with a slightly raised brow. “Then why are you here? What job are you offering me?”
I narrowed my eyes at him and held myself still, wanting to smack that arrogant look in his face as he watched me.
“Tell me, because I am now listening as a person who’s interested in getting the job,” he continued, seeing how exasperated I was getting as he continued giving me a challenging look. I clenched my teeth, still not speaking.
“What are your qualifications? Ah,” he looked up nodding, as if he got something. “You mentioned wanting someone who knew business. I am that. Like I said, I studied economics and marketing for a couple of months, so I know a couple of things about business. And I bet you want someone… good looking, since you’re here in an escort house, finding someone who has the looks you want in a guy.”
I clenched my fists on my sides when his smirk came out again. Showing off his charming face. He raised another brow, challenging.
I exhaled deeply and unclenched my fists. I met his hard eyes.
“Yes, I am here looking for a man who knows at least the basics about business and someone who’d look the part.” I held my chin up, not backing down from him.
His smirk widened as he leaned back, almost in a relaxed manner.
“And what? What kind of job are you offering for such a price I heard you were willing to pay?”
“It’s—ah…” I stopped, realizing how my answer would just prove his point. That despite how ‘decent’ I’d claim this is, it’s still not the typical decent job one could say it is. That it might look like a game; a game that rich, spoiled and wild girls would want to play. This might even be the craziest job offer anyone has ever made.
“What?” He pushed when I didn’t speak. I kept my mouth closed, very much annoyed now.
“What is it? Can’t tell me about it now?” I glared at him. He just continued looking at me with a challenge in his eyes. But the hell I would back down from challenges.
I gritted my teeth. “I just want someone who could pretend to be my boyfriend. And this would be nothing like—” he suddenly cut me off with a chuckle and a grin, his perfect set of teeth appearing and that shallow dimple he had that oddly made him charmingly manly.
“You know what, I would understand if you had just said that straight up and didn’t bother telling me about how ‘decent’ this is. You basically still want an escort who’s just extra knowing of things around your world and can be with you for one night and event. And for what? You just want someone convenient without committing something.” He shook his head as he laughed at me. I glowered at his face.
“But isn’t that what escorts are for? You willingly open yourself for it. It’s basically your ‘job’.” I reasoned, because that’s the reason why I came to them, isn’t it? This is basically what their job is all about.
The mocking look in his face slowly turned serious as he once again stared me down. I swallowed, but I didn’t move in my place, despite feeling intimidated with his look along with his height.
“Yes, it is. People like you pay for escorts’ presence. I just don’t like people using other people just because they have enough money to play with in their pockets.” Those gray eyes of his pierced coldy at me.
“Go home, Miss Allistair. You’re not getting anyone around here,” he said with a dark look and immediately turned his back and walked away with huge steps, not even letting me speak.
I stared at his broad back, fuming in my feet.
Who the hell does he think he is?
“Fine! I don’t need you!” I screamed, infuriated over how arrogant he was, as if he knew exactly what was happening and he knew what kind of a person I was.
I hate him!
He didn’t seem to hear my voice, or if he did, he chose not to care about it, when he just continued walking away, not even looking back at me. He walked alone in the street like he owned it. His height and the way he was walking made me realize again how he probably was the most good-looking guy I have seen today. Or more like, ever. With that gray eyes like his and almost perfect features he had in his face.
I hate it.
I turned to my back and called Ted, annoyed that he wasn’t around.
I’m not going back here and I’ll find someone better than that jerk!
CHAPTER 4: The Agreement I didn’t find someone better than him. “Dear, are you sure about this?” Asked Nana who was on the other side of the phone. I was alone in my car, driving alone towards Nana’s old neighborhood where the House was. Two days passed and I already asked my secretary to help me find someone for the role, but still, we haven’t found someone who was fit for the job. The company event is tomorrow, and I’m becoming desperate. I sighed. “Yes, the anniversary is just a day from now and I still haven't found anyone for the role. And I don’t want Aunt Veronica and Robert to be handed over my spot just because I don’t have a boyfriend.” Nana just heaved a deep breath on the other side. She wasn’t able to come, nor Ted was here to drive me. This was an abrupt decision which I’m making after work. It was already way past eight in the evening, and I know there was a possibility that Levi may not be there in his house. But tomorrow is the event, and grandpa with the res
CHAPTER 5: Introduction“You picked the right one, my dear. Levi has always been gorgeous, even as a kid.”Nana nudged me on the side as we watched Levi getting dressed by my team for the event. “Where did you find him? Haven’t seen him for a while. I mean, that young man has always been running around in his cute little butt, taking gigs and such but years have I not seen him until I stayed in the Allistair household.”I looked at Nana and she looked truly curious as she stared at Levi who wasn’t moving as the stylist made sure his hair was perfect, along with his crisp three-piece silver suit that matched my white and glittery silver dress. “I just saw him on the street talking to a kid. He was outside his house as I was walking home that first day we went there.” Nana nodded slowly, still staring at the man who was now smiling as he joked about something to the stylist that totally loved it. All three of them were laughing almost hysterically beside him as he grinned.I raised a
PROLOGUE“How much are we talking about?” “1 million dollars.”“That’s it?” I raised a brow. He crossed his arms and leaned on the doorway he was standing on. I could see a challenging glint in his eyes, wanting me to raise the offer.I did everything I could to stop glaring. The opportunistic bastard. If he just didn’t look like a model and a possible hot-shot in business, I wouldn’t ever waste my time with him. “A free stay in my house, food, clothes, car and a renovation in this…” I gestured towards the tattered small house behind him. He raised a brow, an amused glint sparkling in his eyes. I just waved my hand.“I will renovate your house, and you will have basically every privilege a boyfriend and a husband will have. So, what do you say?” I said. He didn’t move in his position and just stared at me for a second. And when those deep gray eyes of his suddenly went roaming around my body, I suddenly felt things I shouldn't have for a man I just met.“Including sex?” He asked,
CHAPTER 1: To Be A CEOA few days ago…Standing under an umbrella out in the rain, I watched as my grandfather and cousins went to give flowers to the grave in front of them. My parents’ graves.“They still could have done so many things.” I heard Aunt Veronica say. She held a handkerchief in hand as she stood by my grandfather who was just silently staring at his son and daughter-in-law’s grave stones.“They were taken away from us so quickly.” I wanted to roll my eyes at her when she dramatically sniffed and wiped her cheek from her fake tears. It’s been ten years; even, I have managed not to cry anymore at the memory of them. And to think she wasn’t even that close to my father. She also hated Mom.“If not for some other people’s stupidity, we could not have lost Jude and Lana so early.” The vile aunt glanced at me and I kept my emotions hidden as I stood there. I kept my mouth shut despite the swirling in my head and stomach.“Veronica, that is enough.” Grandpa Alfred called her o
CHAPTER 2: Hiring I looked around the crowded area beside my car. I kept the grimace from coming out of my face. Nana Karina chuckled. “This isn’t much but I’ve lived here most of my life.” “Oh,” was all I could say. I immediately felt bad for misjudging the place. “It’s alright, my dear. Some people here are indeed not decent, but some are. Just like where you grew up in. The world is the same in every nook and crevice of it,” she said, rubbing my back, as if I was still the child she used to teach things about the world. I smiled at her. “Thanks for helping me out on this, Nana.” She shook her head. “Oh, I know how much the position means to you. You think it's your parents' last gift for you as their only child.” She suddenly pointed a finger at me. “But swear that you will soon tell your Grandfather the truth.” I immediately nodded. “I will. I promise I will. Soon.” “Alright. Let’s go and get your future husband.” I hated the idea of this, but Nana’s statement made me smile
