PROLOGUE
“How much are we talking about?”
“1 million dollars.”
“That’s it?” I raised a brow. He crossed his arms and leaned on the doorway he was standing on. I could see a challenging glint in his eyes, wanting me to raise the offer.
I did everything I could to stop glaring. The opportunistic bastard.
If he just didn’t look like a model and a possible hot-shot in business, I wouldn’t ever waste my time with him.
“A free stay in my house, food, clothes, car and a renovation in this…”
I gestured towards the tattered small house behind him. He raised a brow, an amused glint sparkling in his eyes. I just waved my hand.
“I will renovate your house, and you will have basically every privilege a boyfriend and a husband will have. So, what do you say?” I said.
He didn’t move in his position and just stared at me for a second. And when those deep gray eyes of his suddenly went roaming around my body, I suddenly felt things I shouldn't have for a man I just met.
“Including sex?” He asked, tilting his head a little.
My eyes widened. “N-no! No! All the privileges except that. We don’t need to do anything intimate when we’re alone. We’re just pretending so I could have my position from my grandfather.”
“Where’s the fun in that?” The bastard smirked, and I hate how that just made something stir in my stomach.
I clenched my fist behind me. “The fun is all the money you can have in just six months. Six months after marriage, we’ll get divorced. Done. Everything I mentioned is all yours. All I need is the position in our company. I still don’t want to get married nor even planning to in the near future.”
“Your old man would probably not like that,” he commented, but I didn’t say anything.
Yes, grandfather would not like this, but there’s no way I’m going to let him arrange me to a marriage like we were still in the medieval times with a man who will take over my position and work. I don’t even know who he is. There’s just no way.
I don’t need a man for me to run our company. I can do this on my own. If I ever want a man, then it won’t be because I need him for the business. I know I’m smart and trained enough to have the president and CEO position.
I love grandpa Al, but I can’t just do what he says this time.
“All the things I said will be yours. I will have it in a contract we’ll both sign and you’ll be rid of me after six months. Deal?” I stretched out my hand for him to take.
His amused gray eyes went to it, and it was crazy, but I suddenly felt tingles on my palm.
Gawd. I hate how good he looks.
Slowly, he started taking my hand. I looked at him and saw his smirk turn into a grin.
“Deal.” I sighed in relief and nodded. But he suddenly pulled me closer that made me gasp.
“Nice negotiating with you, my dear soon-to-be wife.” He raised my hand that he was still holding and I couldn’t help the fast beats of my heart when he kissed it.
“Fake soon-to-be wife,” I emphasized, getting a hold of myself. I pulled my hand away from him.
The bastard just chuckled.
CHAPTER 1: To Be A CEOA few days ago…Standing under an umbrella out in the rain, I watched as my grandfather and cousins went to give flowers to the grave in front of them. My parents’ graves.“They still could have done so many things.” I heard Aunt Veronica say. She held a handkerchief in hand as she stood by my grandfather who was just silently staring at his son and daughter-in-law’s grave stones.“They were taken away from us so quickly.” I wanted to roll my eyes at her when she dramatically sniffed and wiped her cheek from her fake tears. It’s been ten years; even, I have managed not to cry anymore at the memory of them. And to think she wasn’t even that close to my father. She also hated Mom.“If not for some other people’s stupidity, we could not have lost Jude and Lana so early.” The vile aunt glanced at me and I kept my emotions hidden as I stood there. I kept my mouth shut despite the swirling in my head and stomach.“Veronica, that is enough.” Grandpa Alfred called her o
CHAPTER 2: Hiring I looked around the crowded area beside my car. I kept the grimace from coming out of my face. Nana Karina chuckled. “This isn’t much but I’ve lived here most of my life.” “Oh,” was all I could say. I immediately felt bad for misjudging the place. “It’s alright, my dear. Some people here are indeed not decent, but some are. Just like where you grew up in. The world is the same in every nook and crevice of it,” she said, rubbing my back, as if I was still the child she used to teach things about the world. I smiled at her. “Thanks for helping me out on this, Nana.” She shook her head. “Oh, I know how much the position means to you. You think it's your parents' last gift for you as their only child.” She suddenly pointed a finger at me. “But swear that you will soon tell your Grandfather the truth.” I immediately nodded. “I will. I promise I will. Soon.” “Alright. Let’s go and get your future husband.” I hated the idea of this, but Nana’s statement made me smile
CHAPTER 3: Spoiled Rich GirlThe man’s brow raised, but I continued smiling at him.“A job?” He asked. I nodded. “Yes, but I’d like to ask some questions first.” He just continued staring at me. And with the way he was doing it, unmoving and tracing his eyes around my body, it made me slightly uncomfortable.I cleared my throat, making his eyes look back up at my face. I regained my formal smile. “May I know your name?” I asked.“Levi,” I moved closer to them and offered a hand for a handshake. The man just stared at my hand, but I didn’t take it down immediately.“I’m Jennifer Allistair, and I’m looking for someone around here to have a deal with.”“A deal?” He asked once again, sounding like a recorder now with the way he was just repeating my words. I would have found amusement in this if only he wasn’t looking at my face with such a careful expression. He was being cautious, and I feel like he finds this conversation shady. I understand that, but he was giving me such a look t
CHAPTER 4: The Agreement I didn’t find someone better than him. “Dear, are you sure about this?” Asked Nana who was on the other side of the phone. I was alone in my car, driving alone towards Nana’s old neighborhood where the House was. Two days passed and I already asked my secretary to help me find someone for the role, but still, we haven’t found someone who was fit for the job. The company event is tomorrow, and I’m becoming desperate. I sighed. “Yes, the anniversary is just a day from now and I still haven't found anyone for the role. And I don’t want Aunt Veronica and Robert to be handed over my spot just because I don’t have a boyfriend.” Nana just heaved a deep breath on the other side. She wasn’t able to come, nor Ted was here to drive me. This was an abrupt decision which I’m making after work. It was already way past eight in the evening, and I know there was a possibility that Levi may not be there in his house. But tomorrow is the event, and grandpa with the res
CHAPTER 5: Introduction“You picked the right one, my dear. Levi has always been gorgeous, even as a kid.”Nana nudged me on the side as we watched Levi getting dressed by my team for the event. “Where did you find him? Haven’t seen him for a while. I mean, that young man has always been running around in his cute little butt, taking gigs and such but years have I not seen him until I stayed in the Allistair household.”I looked at Nana and she looked truly curious as she stared at Levi who wasn’t moving as the stylist made sure his hair was perfect, along with his crisp three-piece silver suit that matched my white and glittery silver dress. “I just saw him on the street talking to a kid. He was outside his house as I was walking home that first day we went there.” Nana nodded slowly, still staring at the man who was now smiling as he joked about something to the stylist that totally loved it. All three of them were laughing almost hysterically beside him as he grinned.I raised a
