Chapter Thirty -One

Damien and I stared at each other for a moment as we silently processed the fact that we no longer had access to privacy in the house anymore.

I picked up my phone and dialed the number of the kidnapper to tell him that I had done the job for added measure.

“I know, I know. You have done quite okay with the setup. If I have any complaints against it, I will not hide it from you,” he informed.

“Is there anything you want from me right now? I’m willing to do it if it means I can see my mother sooner.” I looked at Damien as I said that, and he gave me a nod of approval to let the kidnapper hear the desperation in my voice for him to trust that I would not disappoint him.

“Do not get too eager, Lauren. Your mother can wait, and I still have to know that the old man of yours does not know about this little arrangement of ours. I’ll call you anytime soon. If you do not pick up, I’ll take it as a sign that you are ignoring me.”
