Chapter Thirty-Two

It didn’t surprise me too much that Darla’s apology to me was not genuine, but getting proof of it still had a certain hit to it that took me aback for a moment after she told me to leave her brother alone.

“I don’t think I understand,” I said, shaking my head as she frowned even deeper at me.

“I don’t know what little agreement you both have with each other, but I already told you I’m protective over my brother. You look like a lot of trouble, from how young you are to the situation your mother is in. Not to mention that you were once Conrad’s girlfriend. Don’t you get a sense of shame when you remember that Damien is Conrad’s uncle?”

I stared at her for a moment as I tried to come up with words that would not sound too disrespectful when I said them out loud, no matter how hard it was.
