RYDER
Sleep eluded me tonight. I pulled the covers aside and stood up. The thought of Sarah occupied my mind. I knew she was excited to celebrate the anniversary with friends but I had made other plans. The anniversary party had been the perfect place to execute them. It was like killing two birds with a stone; denounce Sarah as my mate and introduce Alexis to the world as my Luna.I have held up my path of the deal, now it's time for them to do the same.It was supposed to buy me time to strategize, knowing Sarah was tucked in somewhere safe. I had planned everything perfectly with the help of my beta, Trevor. Now, everything has been destroyed before it even began.I had met Alexis at a business meeting. She had stood in her father's stead, Regan Blackwood(Alpha of the Blackwood pack). They have been pushing to merge with my company, SC Enterprise (Stormclaw).Alexis was meant to be a one-night stand. The sex had been incredible. Better than I had imagined. All that perfect skin and her perfectly rounded lips. Deliciously tempting.I hated her for it.And I never forgave myself. That incident was supposed to remain buried forever till she reappeared, sprouting a bump and claiming the child was mine.I had tried every tactic within the book to make the situation vanish but Alexis had only one goal; to become my Luna. She had me cornered. In her words, she was doing me a favour, giving me a purebred for an heir.Truth be told, I played around with the thought. It would get everyone off my back and strengthen my pack but I couldn't go through with it.The thought of Sarah’s face twisted with anguish upon hearing the news, stopped me in my tracks every time. When she noticed she couldn't get past me, Alexis enlisted the help of her father who took advantage of the situation. With threats to eliminate Sarah and strip me of my title if I refused to do right by his daughter, I was forced to play their game to keep Sarah safe.Today, Alexis got her wish. I broke the heart of the woman I claimed to love and vowed to protect. Things were moving fast and I had to protect her from Alexis even if it meant hurting her. Now, I've pushed her into the arms of the devil himself.Lucas Nightshade. He knew me too well. He would have seen through my act in the study. He made a failed attempt on my life once and that ended our friendship forever. If it wasn't for the council stepping in, it would have been a bloodbath in both packs. The council—a group of the most powerful, rare-blooded Alphas and Lunas that govern wolves all over the realm—made us sign a treaty to keep the peace. But I still wanted my revenge and Lucas knew that. He was taunting me outright, knowing that my hands were tied.Though I had bravely watched Sarah disgrace herself earlier, something about her being with Lucas broke my resolve.Sarah Willow was mine. I'll have her back no matter how long it takes to rid myself of the mess I have created. And when that day arrives, I'm going to have my revenge on Alexis even if it means wiping the entire Blackwood pack off the face of the realm.Footsteps pulled me from my musing. Alexis walked into the room, swaying her hips to an invisible rhythm. She was clad in a red nightgown.Sarah’s clothes…she must have raided her closet. Too tall for the gown which should have hit mid-thigh but on her, barely covered her ass and belly.Irritated. “What the hell are you wearing?”Alexis ignored my outburst as she walked past me to the bed.“Get out of her clothes,” I snapped. “Tell the maids to get you something else. There are plenty of clothes lying around this house, which she never wore.”“I feel comfortable in this,” she retorted sharply, tugging the duvet comfortably under her arms. “It was lying around in the closet and I grabbed it. I bet Sarah won't mind.”Sarah would absolutely mind.“Get something else to wear,” I spoke flatly. “ Her clothes would be moved out of the closet and into storage.”“No it won't,” she spoke with a hint of finality. “It will be shredded and burnt. Same goes for everything belonging to her in this house.”A scowl marred my face at the tone of her voice. “Is there something I'm missing here?”She bared her teeth in a false smile. “Nothing, Alpha Ryder. I just want you to be aware that your choices and actions have consequences. You haven't forgotten yourself…Ryder.”“No, I haven't, Alexis. I have kept my part of the deal. Now, it is time to do yours.”“And I will, as long as you don't go sneaking behind my back…Sarah would be safe.”“Is that a threat?”“No, it is a reminder, baby.” She pouted, wrapping her arm across her belly. “Come to bed, I want to be held. Nothing bad happens to me or my baby or your precious Sarah will be six feet under.”Seething with restrained anger, I approached her side of the bed. “Do well to pick your words wisely.”Her eyes stared into mine, unwavering. “Do well not to forget our deal, Ryder.”I stepped back, the sting of her words kept mine at bay. I need to rid myself of Alexis and her father and I need to do it soon.“/Alph Ryder, you have been summoned to the house of the council, tomorrow. Alone./” Bill, my personal guard informed me through the mind link.“/Thanks/”Alone? I mused inwardly. Has Regan Blackwood gotten to them before I did? Are they about to be mediators?Maybe my day has arrived earlier than I had expected.Sarah I was sitting next to Lucas in the back seat of the car. He had dragged me out of bed in such a hurry that I didn't get to wash my face because it took me forever to pull myself away from the bed. “You're extremely quiet. Did you have a good night's rest?” he spoke up, breaking the silence between us. My eyes were still laden with sleep. Last night was a nightmare. Literally. I wasn't in the mood for a conversation, so I said nothing. But Lucas wouldn't take the hint. He tapped my hand, lightly. “Was it to your comfort?” he continued, unbothered. “ I know you came into luxury when you married Ryder but five years is enough time to know the taste of finer things.” It had crossed my mind that he might have been aware of my past. But it was way too early for me to have a decent conversation and my head sat heavy on my neck. Every part of my body ached and the hard leather seat of the car did nothing to ease it. “Yes, the room was pleasant,” I replied softly. “But my disco
Sarah My eyes fluttered open, greeted by the bright light from a window. Still woozy from the sedatives packed in my system, I tried to recollect the events of the past hour. Then, like a cruel punch, the memories came flooding back—the argument, the push, the unbearable pain. I struggled to sit up but my body protested against every movement. The door to the room swung open and the doctor walked in, closely followed by a woman. “Ms Willow,” his voice sounded cherry, a bit too cheery. “I'm Dr. Adian. I'm glad to see you awake. The sedatives are beginning to wear off. How are you feeling?” “Better,” I lied. Partially. “That's good.” I watched as he whispered to the nurse. I sat perfectly still, like a statue, dredging to ask the question that plagued me. He pulled me out of my misery. “Ms Willow, we have good and bad news. The good is you've sustained nothing major, just a slight concussion. And the bad news is we couldn't save your baby. The fall was fatal—” His voice faded
Five Years Later Sarah I stood in the living room taking in the breathtaking view of the ocean below my penthouse. Watching the waves rise and fall has been part of my morning ritual for the past five years. It was beautiful to see and the sight never gets old. I moved around the room, clad in nothing as the morning sun teased my pale skin. A soft sigh escaped my lips. I need to go out more often, I subconsciously reprimanded myself. It would be good for my social life—not that I needed one. I paused as my eyes caught my reflection on the window glass, which replaced a section of the wall. My long, wavy hair was packed into a messy bun, accentuating my high cheekbones. My skin looked pale under the bright light. I strolled over to the fridge and pried it open. A plate of half-eaten salad stared at me gloomily. My eating habits were bad and needed to be addressed. I made a mental note to stop at the grocery store after my gym session. Which will entail letting my assis
Ryder “Have you gotten the call from Regan?” I spoke as my fingers tapped on the mahogany desk in my office. “Not yet. I haven't been able to get through to him. My calls are always been redirected to his secretary.” Trevor spoke without taking his eyes off the stack of papers in his hand. “I'll keep trying. You have nothing to worry about.” I turned my gaze at Trevor, baffled and annoyed at how calm and collected he was at the moment. He raised his eyes and caught my glaring eyes. “All I'm trying to do right now is to make sure you're calm and not worked up. You wouldn't want to make hasty decisions right now because you feel backed into a corner. He might just be testing you, to see if you would crack.” Trevor was right. I needed to think not react. I looked across my office. It was situated on the topmost floor of the SC Atlantic Enterprise building. The windows were large, giving me a massive view of my city. I slumped into my chair, feeling drained before the day start
SarahI had my bags packed and arranged by the door. It was a small assembly of suitcases, mostly boasting of my multiple gym wear and fighting gear. After my ordeal with the miscarriage, I had learnt to treat my body as a temple. Though, going to the gym helped me focus, its main reason was to release some of the rage buried within me.“Ms Sarah, the driver has arrived,” Valeria called from behind the door, her face flushed from the cold.“I'm all set,” I motioned to the suitcases as I walked past her. “Tell them to be careful with my boxes. I've some valuables stored in them.”The wind outside was bitterly cold. I hugged my coat tighter around my body as I walked towards the black sedan parked by the side of the road.It was in moments like this that the feeling of emptiness washed over me. It's been years and my wolf has been lost to me. Nothing seemed to work. She was gone forever and I miss her terribly,I was wolfless in a community filled with wolves. I worked harder than the a
Sarah My eyes widen, taken aback by his reaction. Lucas was known across the realm for his ruthlessness. But he has never raised his voice at me. Not once. “What does it look like?” I said, still shocked by how fast he switched up. “I was returning the gesture.” He arched his brow. “Which I find very strange. You would never welcome me with open hands. Not you, Sarah.” Lucas wasn't entirely wrong; I had my selfish reasons. If he thinks that I was playing along—which I was doing, willingly—he wouldn't be so anxious to spy on me. Nevertheless, kissing him hadn't been as bad as I’d imagined and I might be tempted to try again. No, I wouldn't. It might send the wrong signals and make things between us uncomfortable. I knew what I was doing being flirtatious over the phone but right now, I have taken things too far. “You're right,” I chided myself. “That's unlike me. Do you need me to apologize?” “No. Never.” His eyes had lost their hardness when they settled on me again.
Ryder I sat on the edge of the bed. My fingers were lost in Alim’s mop of black hair. Strands of curly hair fell across his face, as he lay on the bed, eyes shut to the world. The silence in the room was temporarily punctured by his soft breathing. I've been told he takes after me. His eyes were the same shade of blue as mine. He has the strength of wolves ten years older than him. He was growing up to be a strong leader. I stared at his face and guilt washed over me. I haven't been paying attention to him. I came back home way past his bedtime and left the house before the sun was up. I needed to make time for my son. This business with Reagan needed to be over so I could get back to my life and son. The thought of speaking to Alexis about her attitude towards Alim crossed my mind. But I quickly dismissed it. It was useless. It was like talking to a brick wall. Alexis had never taken any interest in the boy. After his birth, she had handed him over to the wet nurse and
Sarah The parking lot was closed off to the road. I sat in the backseat, feeling out of sorts as Robert, my bodyguard, who was also acting as my driver maneuvered the car into the empty space. The journey down to this building had been emotionally draining. The sights brought back memories of my childhood. And bittersweet memories of my existence as Luna. “Are you alright back there, ma?” he asked. I smiled at the back of his head. I knew he could see my reflection in the mirror. Robert Harting but ‘Rob’ to his friends was a bear of a man. Though he was a ruthless warrior just like his master. He had fought side by side with Lucas and had retired from active battles after an injury on his right leg. Now, he’s one of Lucas’ trusted guards. I had taken a liking to him the moment we first met. He knew how to tell a joke and take one too. Lucas had assigned Rob to me as my bodyguard after my ordeal at the hospital five years ago. But when I had left the pack, Rob wouldn't follow m
