**KELILAH'S POV**
The room buzzed with a tension so thick, it felt like we were all drowning in it. Nathan and his assistant had retreated to the corner, whispering in hushed tones. Their eyes drifted over us like vultures circling their prey, and with each glance in our direction, I felt my chest tighten. The dread simmering inside me was unbearable, and yet, I had no choice but to wait for the inevitable.
When Nathan and his assistant finally made their way back to the podium, the hall fell silent. The air seemed to crackle with anticipation. Nathan's expression was strained, and his voice cracked as he spoke.
"Believe me when I say this is not easy," Nathan began, taking a deep breath. "It hurts all of us, but it's necessary. This is the only way we can fulfill the ancient agreement."
I felt a lump in my throat. Everyone knew about the agreement, but we had always hoped it would never come to this—hoped that, somehow, the king would change his mind. But here we were.
Nathan's voice grew quieter, almost remorseful. "The selection is not personal. To the family that is chosen, you will have two months to prepare your daughter. When the king comes for the wedding, do not resist. Hand her over without struggle."
The entire hall was now tensed as everyone waited for his final decision. But he just remained silent. I wanted to scream, to tell him this was cruel and unfair. But I couldn’t. My heart felt like it was being torn apart in slow, agonizing pieces as Nathan's words hung in the air. He paused, surveying the room, and then spoke again.
"West," he said, his voice cracking slightly. For a moment, I thought he was about to say that she had been choking, and my breath hitched in my throat. But instead, he nodded toward the West family and added, "You may sit."
My head jerked up to know who he had instructed to seet, but then his gaze wad on the West girl, wasn’t it?. Was he telling her to take her seat?. Then who was going to be the bride then. Andersons?.
The relief that had washed over me for a fleeting second had now evaporated uickly when his gaze fell upon me.
"Anderson," he said, his tone final. "Your family has been chosen."
Murmurs erupted from every corner of the hall. I barely noticed them. All I could feel were the eyes of everyone in the room, pitying, watching. . I wanted to scream at Nathan and defy his order in from of the entire members present. But just as I was about to speak, I felt an arm wrapped around me. It was Loveth. She was already a crying mess, her sobs shaking my body. The realization hit me with full force—we were the ones chosen. It was our turn.
I went completely silent as tears began streaming down my eyes. It was really the Anderson's turn. It was our turn!!!.
Back at home, the weight of the decision pressed down on all of us like a heavy blanket. Mother cooked in silence, her face a mask of emotions too raw to show. Father had retreated to his room, no doubt to avoid confronting the inevitable. And Tyra, well, she was nowhere to be found.
I couldn’t sit in my room any longer. I had to check on Loveth. Opening her door, I found her wiping her eyes hastily.
"Loveth, have you been crying?" I asked, though I already knew the answer.
"No... of course not," she stuttered, her voice shaky.
I sighed, walking over to sit beside her on the bed.
"Don’t lie to me, Loveth. I can see the tears."
She stiffened. "I told you, it’s nothing."
"You're upset. I can tell," I persisted, trying to reach out to her, but her walls were firmly in place.
"Kelilah, stop." Her voice broke, and I could feel the tension in the air growing thicker. "It’s not your fault. None of this is your fault."
I plopped In her bed, but she still remained seated with her back facing me. It was just like her to hide her tears away from me.
“I’m sorry for snapping at you”, she apologized.
“No need to apologize, Loveth. I’m not even offended”, I
“Still. I shouldn’t have. It’s not like it’s your fault”, she said.
“What do you think is going to happen” I asked her instead, waving off the topic.
“We are the only daughters of king Anderson, so it has to be one of us”, she said.
“But I think something can be done about this. Maybe we can speak to the Nathan and make him change his mind about it, maybe he can choose another family”, I said and she scoffed.
“It doesn’t work like that Kelilah”, she said.
“But if…”, I tried persisting, when she snapped at me again.
“Stop it Kelilah” she said angrily and sat up again.
“Do you think the other families want to send their daughters too. You think any of the princesses will be willing to exchange places with us”, she asked harshly.
“We’ll never know if we don’t try” I tried to reasoning with her, but it only made her angrier.
“Nothing can change our fate now. So It’s better If you wake up from your silly dreams and face the reality. This isn’t the same as making the Edwards sell their stupid company. This is something bigger than any of us”, she yelled as she was breathing harshly when she finally finished talking, making me to feel really hurt.
Her words cut deep. Loveth had never spoken to me like this before, and the sting of it brought tears to my eyes. I rose from the bed, hiding my face from her, and without another word, I began walking out of her room.
“Spare, I..” she tried speaking, but I was hearing none of it as i made my way out of the door.
In the solitude of my own room, the tears I had been holding back spilled freely. How did it come to this? Why did she snap at me? All I wanted was to make things better, to find a way out. But instead, she shut me down. It felt like everything was falling apart.
I finally wiped my eyes angrily. She was the one who got me upset by losing her temper and yelling at me, so, I concluded that I wasn’t going to speak to her, until she apologized for her blow up.
The rest of the day blurred by. I kept myself busy, rearranging my room again and again, a mindless task I often did when I was upset. Eventually, exhaustion overtook me, and I fell asleep, only to be woken by a knock on my door.
"Kelilah, dinner will be ready in thirty minutes," my mother’s voice called through the door.
I dragged myself to the bathroom, showered, and changed into my nightwear. The cold air after the shower only deepened the chill in my bones, a reflection of the icy reality we were now facing. As I sat on the edge of my bed, my phone buzzed beside me. It was Jackson.
"Hey," I greeted, trying to sound cheerful, though my heart wasn’t in it.
"Babe, I’ve been calling," he complained.
"Sorry, I was asleep. I didn’t hear it," I replied, forcing a smile he couldn’t see.
“It’s fine. So, we will see tomorrow?” he asked.
Gently and slowly I gulped. I wasn’t sure father would let me leave the house tomorrow. But I think he won’t have a much problem with it
“Probably. Loveth and I were supposed to set up her new office today, but with the announcement, we didn’t do it. She might be needing my help tomorrow. But I promise to see you immediately after that”, I replied
He grunted.
“Okay. That reminds me, has your family said anything about the selection?”, he asked
“No. Maybe after dinner. I’ll give you the details tomorrow”, I replied
“Okay love, good night”, he said
“Goodbye. I love you” I said but he already hung up.
I frowned and tossed the phone on my bed, before stepping out of my room, only to see loveth standing at her door. I wanted to smile at her, but I remembered she had scolded me, so I looked away and made my way to the dining room.
The maids had already set the table and everyone had taken their various positions. I took my position beside mom, while Loveth sat next to me.
I expected her to whisper her apology so all could be forgotten, but she ignored me and focused on her meal, leaving the distance between us unbridged. Well If that was what she wanted, then so be it.
At dinner, the tension was palpable. Everyone ate in silence, no one daring to speak of the decision that loomed over us. When the dishes were cleared, Father called us into the living room. Of course he wanted to address the matter at hand
"You all know what happened today," he began, his voice stern. "But I’m not sure you girls truly understand the gravity of the situation."
Mother's voice was softer but no less serious. "One of you will be married to the King of Bazil."
The words hit me like a punch to the gut. I couldn’t breathe.
"What? You can't just marry one of us off like this!" I cried out, my voice shaking with disbelief.
“There is nothing we can do about it sweetie. It’s beyond our control” she said in a small voice.
“So what are you going to do? Marry your daughters away?”, I yelled.
“Not daughters. Only one of you will have to get married”, father said.
“No. That is impossible. Nobody is going to marry the king Korvus”, I scolded.
As the room fell into a suffocating silence, the truth became inescapable. One of us would become his bride. But who?
*KELILAH'S POV*“No. That is impossible! No one is going to separate Loveth and me!” I screamed, my voice echoing through the hall.“Enough, Kelilah!” my father thundered, his voice rough with frustration. Even though I wanted to yell back, I bit my tongue and remained silent. Defiance flashed in my eyes, but I knew better than to push any further right now.“Your mother and I have made our decision. Loveth, you will be the one going,” he declared, his words as cold and final as a tombstone. My heart dropped like a stone into the pit of my stomach. My eyes widened, terror and disbelief flooding through me. I couldn’t breathe, couldn’t think, as the walls seemed to close in around me. I turned to Loveth, my sister, my other half, and saw the same shock mirrored in her tear-filled eyes. “No!” Loveth shrieked, her voice cracking under the weight of her grief. She leapt to her feet, her body trembling with anguish. “I’m not going, Dad!” she sobbed, her voice barely holding together. I
KELILAH'S POV As I stepped into Elena’s office, the gleaming new equipment we ordered had already arrived, and the workers were diligently installing everything. The hum of machines and the clatter of tools filled the air, a promising symphony of progress.“I’m so happy I finally got the company,” Loveth said beside me, her voice trailing off as her expression shifted. “It’s just sad that I won’t be able to enjoy it…”Her sudden change in tone pulled at my heartstrings. I turned to her and met her eyes, filled with a quiet sorrow she tried to suppress.“No, don’t say that,” I quickly reassured her, placing a hand on her arm. “You *will* enjoy it, Loveth. I promised you that, remember? And I keep my promises.” My voice was firm, and her tense expression softened slightly.“Now, give me that wide smile,” I teased, nudging her gently. She managed a bright grin, one that instantly lifted the mood, making me chuckle. We spent the rest of the day setting up the equipment, carefully oversee
KELILAH’S POVThe ride to Jackson's apartment was brief, and my excitement only grew as we pulled up to his grand duplex, complete with a white picket fence. This would be our home after the wedding, a thought that filled me with a warm sense of belonging and anticipation.Inside, the living room gleamed with a pristine charm—the floors shone under the afternoon light, and the air was as fresh as if it had been purified just for us. I sank into the plush couch, feeling at ease as Jackson settled beside me.“So, what did your parents say?” he asked, his voice curious.“Loveth will be going,” I replied.“Thank God,” he muttered, a touch too quickly. My eyebrows furrowed, and I felt an unexpected wave of irritation.“What do you mean by that?” I asked sharply, my gaze challenging his.He took in my reaction, his expression softening. “No, I meant it’s better that she’s going instead of you,” he defended, placing his hand gently on my lap. I pushed his hand away, my voice firm. “It’s not
KELILAH'S POV I gripped my bag tightly as I walked down the bustling sidewalk, each step heavy with heartbreak. The day was still bright, but it felt like dusk in my mind. I could sense curious stares from people passing by, perhaps noticing my swollen eyes and tear-streaked face, but I kept my gaze fixed on the ground, unwilling to meet anyone’s eyes.My phone vibrated again, a persistent buzz from inside my bag, but I ignored it. I wasn’t ready to face anyone—not yet. Today, everything that once made sense had fallen apart in a single blow. My life, my happiness, my sense of peace—all of it shattered by a revelation I could never have prepared for.For two years, I’d believed I was living a fairytale. Although, in the last few months, doubts had begun to fester. The late-night phone calls, the excuses, the unexpected disappearances... my instincts had been screaming at me that something was wrong. But each time, I’d silenced them, convincing myself I was paranoid. I’d wanted so des
Kelilah’s POVI bit my lip, fighting to keep silent as Tyra’s expression morphed from surprise to unfiltered rage.“I’m going to kill that bastard,” she said, pushing herself out of her seat. I quickly reached out, gripping her arm.“Don’t.”“Don’t ask me to sit here and do nothing, Kelilah.” She yanked her arm free, glaring. “Why are you still defending him? After everything he’s done? The lies, the deceit! He’s married, and he’s trying for a child! You were just his other woman!” Her voice rose, and I felt eyes turning our way. I cast a quick, embarrassed glance around, suddenly all too aware of our surroundings.“I know, Tyra. I don’t need the reminders.” My voice was barely a whisper.“Reminders? That man deserves a beating for what he’s done,” she spat, once again rising from her seat. I held her wrist, forcing her back down.“Maybe he does. But he doesn’t even know I’ve found out,” I lied, knowing it was the only thing that might keep her from confronting Jackson head-on.“Wait
*Kelilah's POV*My screams echoed through the night, attracting a small crowd of neighbors. Soon, the area was swarmed with curious onlookers, and then a police squad arrived, their flashlights illuminating the trail of blood stretching further down the road—a detail I hadn’t noticed in my panic.Morgana, my elderly neighbor who once served as a palace cook, approached and wrapped me in a thick blanket, her comforting presence grounding me in the chaos. Before long, a police officer approached."I need a word with you, ma'am," he said, his tone gentle but firm. I tried to stand, but Morgana held me back, protesting, "She’s in shock, sir. Can’t you see?"The officer held his ground politely. "It’ll be brief, ma’am. Just a few questions." I reassured Morgana with a nod, whispering, "It’s alright. Maybe I can help."The officer led me to a quieter corner. As I tightened the blanket around my shoulders, he opened his notepad, ready to listen. "I know this must be overwhelming," he said ki
**KELILAH’S POV**Another day, another frantic dash to escape the morning chaos. My routine was, as always, far from graceful."Shit. Shit," I muttered, grabbing my bag only to realize I was still barefoot. Dropping it, I dashed back inside, hunting down my shoes and hastily jamming my feet into them as I returned to retrieve my bag from where I'd left it."Be careful, Princess!" some of the maids called as I misjudged a corner and smacked my foot against a chair."Ow! Damn it!" I hissed, biting back another curse. Just as I staggered back to balance, Loveth's amused voice floated over from the dining room, "You might want to slow down before you break something, Kelilah.""I'm late! It's gonna be hell," I replied, racing toward the door.“Don’t forget to call Faith. She came by looking for you yesterday!” Loveth reminded me as I shut the door behind me. Faith. Damn, I’d forgotten her. Again, even though Loveth had informed me yesterday that she came looking for meWell, for now, I
KELILAH’S POVI reached into my bag and dialed Faith’s number. She picked up on the first ring.“I’ve been waiting for your call”, she said.“I’m sorry. I had a lot to do and there was no time”“I’m upset with you” “And I’m sorry babe. Let’s do for dinner?” , I suggested.“Where ever you wish. Bills on me” “Okay, fine. I will text you the venue. Bye”, she said.“Bye”. I said with a smile as she hung the call. With that call done, I decided to reach out to Loveth. I dialed her number, but she didn’t pick up. I tried again—still nothing. She must be swamped at work, maybe too busy to check her phone.Tucking my phone back into my bag, I decided to drop by Nathan’s place. Loveth’s situation weighed on me, and I was determined to do something to help her. When I arrived, I found the front door locked. Nathan must still be at the office, I thought, turning back and heading there instead. When I arrived at the office, Miranda, his wife, was standing at the door.“Princess...?” she greete
LOVETH'S POVMy body trembled uncontrollably, fear rippling through me under the weight of his cold, unrelenting glare. His eyes burned with such hatred that I wished I could vanish, dissolve into nothingness, and escape his wrath. But wishes were futile here, and the terror in his voice pinned me in place."Are you ready to talk now?" His tone was devoid of any warmth, a frozen blade slicing through the air."I..." My voice cracked, barely a whisper, betraying the turmoil inside me.I wanted to plead my case, to find the words that might shield me, but his stare was suffocating. His presence loomed large as he rose from his chair, and instinctively, I stepped back, colliding with the quard stationed behind me. The guard’s grip tightened painfully on my arm, and I gasped, wincing. The alpha growled-a low, menacing Sound that sent a chill through the room. The guard's hand immediately released me as if burned. Was the growl meant for me or the guard? I couldn't be sure, but it didn't m
Loveth’s POVA low groan escaped my lips as I stirred, my body heavy with exhaustion. Stretching my limbs, I expected the soft comfort of a bed beneath me, but my hand scraped against a rough, unyielding stone. My eyes flew open. I was back in the cell, my reality stark and unforgiving. The faint, soothing sound of a song reached my ears. I turned my head to see the girl in the corner, her voice hauntingly beautiful as it echoed off the cold walls. For a moment, I wondered if everything I had experienced—the whipping, the bandages, the fleeting comfort of a bed—had been a cruel dream. But no, I remembered too much. Every lash, every moment of terror, was etched vividly in my mind. My imagination wasn’t that cruel.I wondered how many days I have spent here. Three? No, it felt like forever. What was Kelilah doing and would she be able to find me? Were they even searching for me? Do they even know that I have been abducted, instead of the assumption of running away?I forced myself to s
SANDRINO’S POVI brushed a stray lock of hair from her face, my fingers trembling against my will. She was breathtaking—fragile yet alluring in a way I couldn’t quite articulate. Her scent was intoxicating, igniting something primal deep within me. My wolf stirred, restless, urging me to shift and claim her, but I fought it. I always had control. Always. The door creaked open, breaking the spell. I pulled away sharply as Nathan entered, his usual unreadable expression in place. He glanced at her battered form with clinical detachment, which I appreciated. I wasn’t in the mood for his unsolicited commentary.“Her pulse is weak,” he said flatly. “And she’s pale. Too pale.”A growl rumbled in my throat. “Then fix it. That’s why I called for you.”Nathan’s gaze didn’t waver. “There’s not much I can do. The injuries are severe. She’s lost too much blood. If I’m being honest, Alpha, she might not make it through the night.”His words hit me like a blow, but I masked my reaction with fury. “D
LOVETH'S POVI bolted for the door, but he was faster. Before I could reach it, his hands closed around me, yanking me back toward the center of the room with an iron grip."You made her suffer" he said, circling me with cold fury.A loud clang echoed as a chain dropped from the ceiling. Panic flooded my veins, but when I tried to pull free, he slapped me across the face with a vicious precision that sent me to the floor, stinging pain radiating from my cheek. I could already feel a bruise forming. He hauled me up roughly, clamped the cuffs onto the chain, and raised me until my toes barely scraped the ground."I'm giving you a chance to talk. Tell me where her body is, and this ends now." His voice was sharp, deadly."I don't know" I choked out, my voice breaking as the tears fell. But my words seemed to mean nothing. I didn't even know who this woman was, let alone what had happened to her. Yet his face remained impassive, as if my suffering was some necessary ritual."You won't en
LOVETH'S POV "You...what?...How?...Why?" The questions stuck in my throat, twisted and tangled, refusing to form.He yanked me up by my arms, snapping metal cuffs around my wrists. His grip was unyielding, dragging me forward, every step scraping my feet against the rough floor. My heart hammered. I don't really know what Kyle was doing here. And it's not as if I had any business with him. I have only seen him along with some inspectors whenever they pay a visit to the palace. So what was he doing to me?.Through the murky shadows, the only thing I could make out were rows of silver bars. "Where are you taking me?" I screamed, my voice cracking as tears traced down my cheeks. But he ignored me, his face a mask of indifference as he led me up a rickety staircase. He pushed open a narrow hatch above us, revealing an opulent house bathed in light, its grandeur stark against the darkness we'd come from.Without hesitation, he dragged me up another flight of stairs and shoved open a doo
LOVETH'S POVI was terrified to make a sound, so I remained silent, listening intently until the footsteps faded. Only then did I let out a small, shaky breath. The ceiling above me started to tremble, and the light bulb hanging from it began to swing violently, casting erratic shadows across the cell. A loud crash of metal reverberated through the room, followed by a woman's bone-chilling scream, slicing through the silence and filling me with dread. Then came the sound of laughter—deep, twisted, and dripping with sadism. The relentless noise frayed my nerves until I couldn’t bear it any longer. In frustration, I rose to my feet and began shouting."Let me out!" I yelled, rattling the bars with all my strength, but they were solid, unyielding."Don't waste your energy," came a voice from behind me, calm and unsettling.I whipped around, my gaze falling on a girl crouched in the corner. She was casually inspecting her fingernails as if this was all perfectly normal."Even if someone h
KELILAH'S POV I groaned, my head pounding as I slowly opened my eyes. I was lying on a familiar couch, the soft glow of early morning sunlight filtering through the curtains. Blinking to clear the fog from my vision, I realized I was back in Tyra’s house. Confusion filled me, but before I could gather my thoughts, I saw Tyra standing nearby, my face tight with worry.“How are you feeling?” Tyra asked softly, stepping closer.I forced myself to sit up, my body still heavy and sore. “What... what happened?” I asked, my voice barely a whisper.Tyra took a deep breath, her gaze steady but laced with concern. “I’m sorry, Kelilah. I had to knock you out. It was the only way I could get you out of there safely.”My eyes widened. “Why? What were you even doing there?”Tyra sat beside me, her expression growing serious. “On my way back home, I saw a group of men. They had your picture in hand, Kelilah. I overheard them talking about abducting you, and I tried calling, but your line wasn’t
Kelilah’s POVDays had slipped through my fingers, and my vow to locate Loveth remained a haunting failure. With each passing sunrise, the reality of my predicament pressed down on me: only a few weeks remained before the kingdom of Bazil would come to claim their bride. And Loveth was still missing. The gnawing fear that I’d be forced into the marriage as her replacement settled heavily on me.Now I understood why I was always the "spare."The weight of this arranged marriage bore down on me like a boulder, unrelenting and cold. I needed an escape plan—something, anything, to release me from this fate. Tyra came to mind. She’d always been my fiercest ally, and if anyone could help me devise a way out, it would be her.I met her that evening, spilling my thoughts as she listened. But before I could fully explain, my phone buzzed insistently in my bag. I glanced down and saw Jackson’s name glaring back at me.“It’s Jackson,” I murmured, half to myself.Tyra rolled her eyes, her express
KELILAH'S POV“You’re speaking nonsense, Mom. Loveth would never do that,” I said, shaking my head as disbelief settled in.“I’m serious, Kelilah. She even left a note,” Mom replied, pointing to a small slip of paper on the bed. Despite her insistence, I refused to look at it. Loveth wouldn’t just vanish like that. If she were planning something, she would have told me. I had even brought up the idea last night, but she hadn’t seemed interested. So why would she suddenly go through with it?“No!” I cried, rushing out of the house with my phone in hand, dialing her number repeatedly. Each attempt met the same response—her phone wasn’t connecting. Frustration overwhelmed me as I stood outside her office building, hoping that in any second she’d appear. Hours slipped by, and the silence of my long wait grew heavy. Desperation took over, and I started calling her friends, voice shaky as I choked back tears. I was already a weeping mess."Hello. Tyra, how are you doing" I asked as I wipe
