LOVETH'S POV
I was terrified to make a sound, so I remained silent, listening intently until the footsteps faded. Only then did I let out a small, shaky breath.
The ceiling above me started to tremble, and the light bulb hanging from it began to swing violently, casting erratic shadows across the cell. A loud crash of metal reverberated through the room, followed by a woman's bone-chilling scream, slicing through the silence and filling me with dread. Then came the sound of laughter—deep, twisted, and dripping with sadism.
The relentless noise frayed my nerves until I couldn’t bear it any longer. In frustration, I rose to my feet and began shouting.
"Let me out!" I yelled, rattling the bars with all my strength, but they were solid, unyielding.
"Don't waste your energy," came a voice from behind me, calm and unsettling.
I whipped around, my gaze falling on a girl crouched in the corner. She was casually inspecting her fingernails as if this was all perfectly normal.
"Even if someone hears you," she said, her voice almost detached, "they’re not going to let you out. This is a place for the damned."
"The damned? But I haven't done anything wrong," I protested, feeling a twinge of panic claw at my chest.
She looked up at me, a hollow smile playing on her cracked lips. Her eyes looked lifeless.
"They never bring the wrong person here. You must have done something truly awful," she murmured, her words cutting through the air with eerie conviction.
"I haven't done anything," I insisted, moving to sit beside her, hoping for some semblance of comfort.
She laughed—a dry, unsettling sound—and crawled towards me on her hands and knees. Her face was gaunt, her skin pale and dry, and her scent was musty, like damp earth and decay. Her cracked lips twisted into a sneer as she drew nearer.
"You look innocent. So did I, once," she said, her tone filled with something that sounded almost like pity.
"But I am innocent," I replied, feeling desperation rise in my chest. She only laughed again, then slithered back to her corner, her bony fingers curling around her knees.
"How long have you been here?" I ventured, needing her to talk, to distract myself from the growing dread gnawing at me.
She began counting on her fingers, her eyes distant.
"Ninety-nine years, I think."
My stomach dropped. She looked no older than twenty, yet claimed to have been imprisoned for nearly a century. My mind scrambled for an explanation, the idea that I might be in an asylum creeping back to me. Maybe this place was designed to drive people mad, to break them.
Oh no. I think maybe staying in here has made her delusional. She didn't look a day over twenty but she claims to have been in here for ninety nine years. This was definitely an asylum. I read somewhere that a few of the buildings looked like prisons.
"What’s your name?" I asked, trying to keep her talking.
"I don't have one," she replied flatly, her voice devoid of emotion.
Gracious, I'm definitely in an asylum, but who could have brought me here. Matters still worse, I needed her to keep speaking.
"Everyone has a name," I said, incredulous.
"Not me," she snapped, almost offended by the suggestion. "Don’t worry about my name. Worry about what they’ll do to you when they come."
My heart skipped a beat. "Who are they?"
"Wolves," she said simply, her eyes locking onto mine with unnerving intensity. "Shifters."
"Wolves?" I echoed, hardly able to process her words.
“That’s impossible. Werewolves don’t exist.”
With each word that left her lips, I was more convinced that I was in an asylum.
She laughed, loud and hollow, drowning out the dripping water echoing through the cell. “You’ll see. Soon, you’ll understand just how real they are.”
I stared at her, struggling to comprehend. “You said this is a place for the damned?”
"Yes," she answered with grim certainty. "And there's no escape."
She gnawed on her fingernails, chewing them down to jagged, bloody edges, a grotesque display that made my stomach churn.
"We're all killed eventually,” she murmured. “And when your time comes, you will be, too."
I tried to shake off her words, clinging to whatever courage I had left.
“What did you do to end up here?" I asked, hoping to shift the conversation.
"I'm a rogue," she replied with a faint, bitter smile.
A rogue. The word sounded familiar. In stories, it referred to werewolves who lived outside of packs. Was this really happening? The absurdity was almost laughable, but she continued with a grim resolve.
"My mate was murdered,” she went on, her tone cold and detached. “So I sought revenge. Killed over a hundred wolves, a few powerful ones, too. Eventually, they caught me.”
She returned her focus to her nails, her voice turning wistful. “That was ninety-nine years ago… or more. I've lost track."
“Do you think they’ll come for me soon?” I asked, trying to mask the tremor in my voice.
“Yes,” she whispered. “Very soon.”
My stomach knotted.
"Isn’t there any way out of here?"
Her laughter filled the cell, shrill and mocking. “Those who try to escape die first. Don’t be foolish.”
I looked away from her, examining the bars. There has to be some kind of way out of here. I had to find a phone and call Kelilah and tell her that I had somehow been trapped in an asylum. I pulled at the bars harder and shouted again in frustration.
“Someone come get me out of this asylum!!”,
She laughed out loud, as if I was displaying a comedy for her.
"So you think I'm crazy. Just relax and wait for your time. Perhaps then we would know if I'm crazy or not?” she said in an eerie voice.
Defeated, I slumped back, my hope crumbling. The girl’s gaze remained fixed on her nails, but occasionally she would look up, her eyes sharp and aware.
A chilling silence filled the cell, and I was startled when she suddenly looked at me, her face twisting into a grim smile.
“They’re coming.”
I backed away instinctively, scanning the cell.
“Who?” I whispered.
“The wolves. It’s time for your judgment.”
Judgement? A shiver raced down my spine. I strained to hear anything—a distant door, approaching footsteps—but there was only silence. I glanced at her, wanting to believe she was just trying to scare me.
But then, faint footsteps echoed down the hall. My breath caught.
"Pray for death, dear," she murmured, her voice barely a whisper.
I was about to argue when a tall figure appeared outside the bars, his face hidden by a mask. He punched a code into a panel beside the gate, and with a metallic click, the door creaked open. I pressed myself back against the wall, watching him warily.
"I'm taking you up to see the Alpha",
Alpha. Yet another term used to describe the leaders of a pack of wolves. Was this man also crazy? Wolves shifters couldn't be real.
My eyes darted to the open gate, but he quickly stepped in, blocking my only chance of escape. He pulled off his mask, revealing a familiar face. Recognition jolted through me.
“Kyle? Wasn't he one of the inspectors in our kingdom?”
LOVETH'S POV "You...what?...How?...Why?" The questions stuck in my throat, twisted and tangled, refusing to form.He yanked me up by my arms, snapping metal cuffs around my wrists. His grip was unyielding, dragging me forward, every step scraping my feet against the rough floor. My heart hammered. I don't really know what Kyle was doing here. And it's not as if I had any business with him. I have only seen him along with some inspectors whenever they pay a visit to the palace. So what was he doing to me?.Through the murky shadows, the only thing I could make out were rows of silver bars. "Where are you taking me?" I screamed, my voice cracking as tears traced down my cheeks. But he ignored me, his face a mask of indifference as he led me up a rickety staircase. He pushed open a narrow hatch above us, revealing an opulent house bathed in light, its grandeur stark against the darkness we'd come from.Without hesitation, he dragged me up another flight of stairs and shoved open a doo
LOVETH'S POVI bolted for the door, but he was faster. Before I could reach it, his hands closed around me, yanking me back toward the center of the room with an iron grip."You made her suffer" he said, circling me with cold fury.A loud clang echoed as a chain dropped from the ceiling. Panic flooded my veins, but when I tried to pull free, he slapped me across the face with a vicious precision that sent me to the floor, stinging pain radiating from my cheek. I could already feel a bruise forming. He hauled me up roughly, clamped the cuffs onto the chain, and raised me until my toes barely scraped the ground."I'm giving you a chance to talk. Tell me where her body is, and this ends now." His voice was sharp, deadly."I don't know" I choked out, my voice breaking as the tears fell. But my words seemed to mean nothing. I didn't even know who this woman was, let alone what had happened to her. Yet his face remained impassive, as if my suffering was some necessary ritual."You won't en
SANDRINO’S POVI brushed a stray lock of hair from her face, my fingers trembling against my will. She was breathtaking—fragile yet alluring in a way I couldn’t quite articulate. Her scent was intoxicating, igniting something primal deep within me. My wolf stirred, restless, urging me to shift and claim her, but I fought it. I always had control. Always. The door creaked open, breaking the spell. I pulled away sharply as Nathan entered, his usual unreadable expression in place. He glanced at her battered form with clinical detachment, which I appreciated. I wasn’t in the mood for his unsolicited commentary.“Her pulse is weak,” he said flatly. “And she’s pale. Too pale.”A growl rumbled in my throat. “Then fix it. That’s why I called for you.”Nathan’s gaze didn’t waver. “There’s not much I can do. The injuries are severe. She’s lost too much blood. If I’m being honest, Alpha, she might not make it through the night.”His words hit me like a blow, but I masked my reaction with fury. “D
Loveth’s POVA low groan escaped my lips as I stirred, my body heavy with exhaustion. *KELILAH'S POV* I had just gotten back from work, and now I lay on my bed, completely drained. Today had been one of the most exhausting days I could remember. Every inch of my body ached, and my mind was clouded with fatigue. My identical twin sister, Loveth, wasn’t home yet, leaving me alone in the quiet house. Our parents, as always, were the last to come home, and I was starving. Cooking was out of the question though—I had no idea how to cook, and frankly, I had no interest in learning. "Kelilah ?" A voice, accompanied by a knock on my door, jolted me slightly. I must’ve been close to drifting off to sleep because I hadn’t even noticed when my parents came home. With my legs barely cooperating, I staggered to the door, my eyes still half-closed. I turned the knob, letting the door swing open, but no one was there. "Mom? Dad?" I called out, my voice barely above a whisper as my grogginess quickly faded. The eerie silence that greeted me was unsettling. It was never thi
**KELILAH'S POV** The rest of the night passed in a tense, suffocating silence, but the morning was even worse. For as long as I could remember, our family had never been selected for this cursed ritual. But today... today, I feared we wouldn’t be so fortunate.Loveth barely spoke a word, her lips tightly pressed together as she toyed with the hem of her dress. Mother, toowas uncharacteristically silent, nervously chewing on her fingers—a habit she never indulged unless things were truly bad. Father seemed calm, but his eyes betrayed the worry that lay beneath his composed exterior. As for Tyra, she appeared indifferent, her focus elsewhere, though I knew she cared deeply. She just couldn’t express it in the same way.I took a quick shower, trying to wash away the growing anxiety, before slipping into the red dress Loveth had given me. By the time I joined the others in the living room, the sun was already high in the sky. Late again, a habit I couldn’t seem to shake. Normally, Fath
**KELILAH'S POV**The room buzzed with a tension so thick, it felt like we were all drowning in it. Nathan and his assistant had retreated to the corner, whispering in hushed tones. Their eyes drifted over us like vultures circling their prey, and with each glance in our direction, I felt my chest tighten. The dread simmering inside me was unbearable, and yet, I had no choice but to wait for the inevitable. When Nathan and his assistant finally made their way back to the podium, the hall fell silent. The air seemed to crackle with anticipation. Nathan's expression was strained, and his voice cracked as he spoke."Believe me when I say this is not easy," Nathan began, taking a deep breath. "It hurts all of us, but it's necessary. This is the only way we can fulfill the ancient agreement."I felt a lump in my throat. Everyone knew about the agreement, but we had always hoped it would never come to this—hoped that, somehow, the king would change his mind. But here we were.Nathan's voice

KELILAH'S POV I groaned, my head pounding as I slowly opened my eyes. I was lying on a familiar couch, the soft glow of early morning sunlight filtering through the curtains. Blinking to clear the fog from my vision, I realized I was back in Tyra’s house. Confusion filled me, but before I could gather my thoughts, I saw Tyra standing nearby, my face tight with worry.“How are you feeling?” Tyra asked softly, stepping closer.I forced myself to sit up, my body still heavy and sore. “What... what happened?” I asked, my voice barely a whisper.Tyra took a deep breath, her gaze steady but laced with concern. “I’m sorry, Kelilah. I had to knock you out. It was the only way I could get you out of there safely.”My eyes widened. “Why? What were you even doing there?”Tyra sat beside me, her expression growing serious. “On my way back home, I saw a group of men. They had your picture in hand, Kelilah. I overheard them talking about abducting you, and I tried calling, but your line wasn’t
Kelilah’s POVDays had slipped through my fingers, and my vow to locate Loveth remained a haunting failure. With each passing sunrise, the reality of my predicament pressed down on me: only a few weeks remained before the kingdom of Bazil would come to claim their bride. And Loveth was still missing. The gnawing fear that I’d be forced into the marriage as her replacement settled heavily on me.Now I understood why I was always the "spare."The weight of this arranged marriage bore down on me like a boulder, unrelenting and cold. I needed an escape plan—something, anything, to release me from this fate. Tyra came to mind. She’d always been my fiercest ally, and if anyone could help me devise a way out, it would be her.I met her that evening, spilling my thoughts as she listened. But before I could fully explain, my phone buzzed insistently in my bag. I glanced down and saw Jackson’s name glaring back at me.“It’s Jackson,” I murmured, half to myself.Tyra rolled her eyes, her express
KELILAH'S POV“You’re speaking nonsense, Mom. Loveth would never do that,” I said, shaking my head as disbelief settled in.“I’m serious, Kelilah. She even left a note,” Mom replied, pointing to a small slip of paper on the bed. Despite her insistence, I refused to look at it. Loveth wouldn’t just vanish like that. If she were planning something, she would have told me. I had even brought up the idea last night, but she hadn’t seemed interested. So why would she suddenly go through with it?“No!” I cried, rushing out of the house with my phone in hand, dialing her number repeatedly. Each attempt met the same response—her phone wasn’t connecting. Frustration overwhelmed me as I stood outside her office building, hoping that in any second she’d appear. Hours slipped by, and the silence of my long wait grew heavy. Desperation took over, and I started calling her friends, voice shaky as I choked back tears. I was already a weeping mess."Hello. Tyra, how are you doing" I asked as I wipe
