Maliyah
I still have two more weeks until school starts and today mom and dad said they want to give me a surprise. They were suppose to when I returned from my date with Aspen but with what has happened they’ve been busy trying to track whoever has been watching me.
“Hey sweetheart. You ready for your surprise,” asks dad as he gives me a hug.
“I’ve been ready.”
“Alright let’s get in the truck, your mother is waiting for us.”
I give dad a quizzical look as I follow him out the door.
“Where are we going,” I ask.
“You’ll see,” says mom as dad begins to drive out of the pack territory.
I watch the trees go by as we continue into the human town and pull up to Ortiz’s Place.
“We getting something to eat first?”
“Something like that,” says dad.
I am so confused. I follow them into the restaurant and find cousin River and his mate Katherine busy running the place.
“Hey aunt Davina. Does she know yet?”
“Not yet River but we are ready to tell her.”
“Tell me what?”
“Maliyah I want to give you control of the restaurant. You’ll have partial control for now and full control once you graduate high school,” says mom.
I start at her in shock. This was her parent’s restaurant. We grew up here and I have many fond memories of coloring and getting chocolate milkshakes after school. Tears pool in my eyes as I embrace my mother.
“I don’t know what to say mom. Thank you.” I move to hug dad and then an idea pops in my head. “Does this mean I can move into the apartment?”
River and his mate have moved back onto the pack territory since they had Summer and wanted more space in case they have more pups so the apartment has sat empty for a few years.
“Your father and I have had a long discussion about this given the circumstances. We will let you move into the apartment. Your guards are going to be in the condo across the street that belonged to uncle Gabriel and the place has been spelled to prevent anyone you don’t want from entering the apartment.”
I forgot we still had the condo. Mom thought about selling it many times but could never bring herself to do it. It too has sat empty for years.
“There is one condition though,” says dad. I should’ve saw this coming.
“Anything.”
“Keep your grades up and if there is any sign of danger or you feel you are being watched you tell your guards and us immediately.”
“Done!”
I snatch the keys from dad and race upstairs. I start making a list of things I’ll need for my apartment. This is perfect. The apartment is closer to the school and I’ll have my restaurant to come eat lunch whenever I want. I look around the apartment and find that I’ll be quite lonely here and wonder if the twins’ parents will let them move in with me. We will all be eighteen this year though I have to wait until July.
“Hey mom, do you think Dimitri would give Olivia and Oliver permission to live with me? It’d be nice to have roommates.”
“I high doubt Oliver is going to want to share a room with his sister,” laughs dad.
“True but they are coven members. Can’t they just use a spell to make the apartment seem bigger and add a bedroom?”
I know it can be done, Olivia told me that is what they do in their homes. They seem tiny on the outside but are much bigger on the inside.
“If Dimitri and the twins’ parents are fine with it, we are as well,” says mom.
I burst into a squeal and hugs my parents. I quickly mind link the twins as I see mom who is probably mind linking Dimitri.
‘Oliver! Olivia!’
‘Do you have to scream? We can hear you just fine,” whines Oliver.
‘Sorry, but I have the best news!’
‘Spill already,’ says Olivia.
‘My parents gave me partial control of Ortiz’s Place and I get to move into the apartment. How would you guys like to spell it to add another bedroom and bathrooms for everyone and move in with me?’
Olivia let’s out a squeal and now I know my parents felt.
‘Let us ask our parents.’
While I wait for Olivia and Oliver, mom helps me pick out furniture online and set up delivery so that at least the big stuff is out of the way. We could’ve shopped for everything online but that would ruin the fun of shopping.
Suddenly, Dimitri, Oliver, Olivia and their parents appear in the apartment. My parents talk to their parents to ensure their safety while Olivia and Oliver prepare to spell the place.
“I’m so excited they said yes,” says Olivia.
The room slowly shifts and appears bigger as another bedroom appears and bathrooms are linked to each bedroom for privacy. The twins’ bedrooms are on one side of the apartment while mine is on the other.
“Alright, now to decorate,” says Olivia as she begins a spell but I stop her.
“Oh no. We do this the old fashion way. It’s time to do some shopping.”
“Can I least use magic to paint it? I don’t really don’t want to do that.”
I giggle and agree. I’d rather not do the painting part and the apartment could use a new coat of paint.
“Alright, you three know the rules and we better not get a call from the school that you are absent or tardy. If that becomes an issue you won’t be able to live here,” says dad.
“Yes sir,” the twins reply.
“Yes daddy.”
The twins hug their parents and thank Dimitri for giving them permission. I give Dimitri a hug as well before the adults leave us to decorate. Since uncle Gabriel died, Dimitri has become like an uncle to me and checks in on me frequently. I knew he wouldn’t say no.
“Alright, the furniture will be here tomorrow thanks to rush shipping. Let’s go shopping for everything else.”
With my guards following us, I take my mother’s Jeep and head to the mall. I’ve been on high alert since last time we were here we were being followed but I don’t let that ruin my fun.
I swear we’ve hit every store we can. We’ve bought throw pillows, curtains, doorway beads, dish set, pots and pans, rugs and more. We even bought a huge sixty-five inch tv for the living room. I realize that not all of this is going to fit in the car.
“Maliyah let us just teleport this stuff to the apartment. That way we don’t have to haul it up the stairs either.”
I agree since we don’t have much of a choice. I drive Jeep back to the restaurant while the twins take everything with them.
“Hey Maliyah, are you free tomorrow,” asks River as I enter the restaurant.
“Yeah, what’s up?”
“Katherine and I would like to show you the ropes of the restaurant. As part owner, you should know how it’s run.”
“I’d love that. You guys willing to continue to manage it? If I eventually move to the elf realm, I’ll need someone to run it.”
“We’d love to Maliyah.”
Since the war, River has refused to become a warrior in the pack. Instead, he just wants a simple job and live his life with his family. Unlike aunt Katerina, River didn’t inherit any silver dragon powers.
“Okay, I’ll be here first thing to help open up!”
MaliyahMy alarm goes off at five in the morning, making me groan. I shut it off and get ready. I decide to not wear anything fancy, just a simple tee shirt and jeans. I mind link my guards letting them know that I am going to teleport myself to the restaurant.I pop myself into the kitchen, making Katherine jump.“Sorry,” I giggle. She laughs, giving me a hug and begins showing me how to take inventory and then putting in an order online of things we need.“Here is the restaurant account info so you can sign in on your own and here are your set of keys.”I help Katherine ensure that all tables are ready for the day. I refill the napkin dispensers, ensure each table has silverware, the salt and pepper shakers are full and set out syrup for the breakfast rush. I put on my little black apron and grab a note pad and pen. Fresh coffee and tea are being brewed
MaliyahMy alarm goes off annoyingly early. I shut it off and groan as I force myself out of bed. I head to the bathroom to wash my face and brush my teeth. I get dressed in shorts, a simple white tee shirt, black tennis shoes and throw my hair up in a pony tail before heading downstairs.I first make a pot of coffee, knowing myself and the other morning staff are going to want some. I go through my checklist to ensure everything that should’ve been done last night actually got done. I put away the dishes that got wash last night and turn on the grill so it’s all warmed up by the time the cook gets here.I look at my watch and see I have a good forty-five minutes until we open so I grab a cup of coffee as I hear the Sysco truck pull up out back.“Good morning Darryl.”“Morni
Maliyah“Sorry we have to walk there, I don’t have a car.”“I don’t mind walking. I enjoy the outdoors anyway.”For a while we walk in silence. I am not sure what to talk about, but thankfully Luca breaks the ice.“I don’t mean to pry, but what is with the scars?”I become self-conscious and place my hand on my neck. You can’t see much of the scar and normally no one says anything since they all know.“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable.”“It’s alright, it happened during the war. I used too much of my powers.”“I heard you are quite the little badass.”“I prefer to not talk about it.”“I’m sorry, I’m making you uncomfortable again.”We walk the rest of the way in silence. Once we a
MaliyahSince I know Aspen will not be returning anytime soon, I head downstairs to the restaurant and decide to help out. It’s actually a pretty busy night so I know having an extra set of hands will keep things running smoothly.“Hey River, how are Summer and Katherine doing?”“Summer has a cold unfortunately so Katherine is home with her.”“Poor thing. Go home, I’ll lock up tonight.”“Are you sure?”“I’m sure. We only have a few customers left. I can handle it.”“Thanks Maliyah. See you later.”River gives me a quick hug before leaving. A few of the other waitresses we have are college students so I decide to send them home so they can go study for some exam they have coming up, leaving me and our cook, Hank, left.We have about forty-five minutes left and just when we think that we can close early, I hear the doorb
MaliyahSince that night of the break in a week ago, Aspen has been teleporting back to my apartment every night even though the twins have returned. Nothing has since happened and I don’t have that feeling of being watched anymore.I am in my cheer uniform as it’s the first day of school and we have a prep rally. I am in the bathroom doing my makeup when Aspen suddenly sneaks up behind me and wraps his arms around me.“Good morning beautiful,” he says as he places a kiss where a mate mark would typically go.He snakes his hands down my sides and shakes his head as he reaches the end of my skirt.“I will never fully understand humans. Must you wear something so short.”I giggle as I finish putting on mascara and turn to face him.“I have spandex underneath and you know no one would d
MaliyahThe next day I struggle to get up. I am a bit sad I won’t be seeing Aspen for awhile. I force myself out of bed and get ready for the day. I curl my hair and put it half of it up in a pony tail, leaving the rest down to cascade down my back. I put on some jean shorts, pink plaid shirt and ankle boots.“Maliyah! We’re gonna be late,” yells Oliver from the living room.“I’m coming!”I emerge from my room and head for the front door. Olivia is the first out the door but she stops in her tracks. She bends down to pick something up and is smiling at me with a bouquet of rare blue lilies. Lilies are my favorite flower.“Aspen is such a romantic,” says Olivia as she hands me the flowers. My name is on it but it doesn’t say who it’s from. I shrug to myself knowing th
MaliyahThe quad is packed with today. I figured many would head off campus for lunch since it’s an open campus. I search the crowd until I find Olivia and her brother waving at us. Kira and I make our way through the crowd and sit under the big oak tree.“I wish he would turn out to be my mate, he look so delicious,” says Oliver as we approach.“Who are we talking about,” I ask.“Luca, of course,” Oliver replies with a smile.“Did you know he is already eighteen? If his mate is underage she would never know,” says Olivia.“Or he,” whines Oliver.“I’ll admit he’s cute, but I am already taken.”“Aspen might not turn out to be the one though,” says Kira.I don’t respond to Kira’s statement. I hate that she is right and I might end up with someone el
MaliyahFinally class is over. I grab the books I need for homework and head straight to my car where Olivia and Oliver are already waiting for me.“Wanna head to the lake this afternoon,” asks Olivia.“I can’t, I have a shift to pick up at the restaurant.”“Aww, but you are our ride,” whines Oliver making me giggle.“Well Olivia has her license. Ya’ll can just take my car after dropping me off.”“You are the best!”“I know,” I giggle back.I drive back to the restaurant and we all head upstairs. I put my bag in my room and the twins change into the swim suits. I mind link one of the waitresses that are apart of the pack to make a to go order for the twins.“Alright you two, Sarah has an order going for you guys to take with you to the lake.”“You are the best Maliy
