Magnus' POV
After wrapping up the short date, I had to excuse myself for a while as I dropped Vanna off at her place. There was an urgent matter at the pier that required my attention. My staff needed me there due to an unexpected event that seemed serious.
Hurriedly driving to the location, a sense of foreboding surrounded me. I needed to address this issue promptly to avoid any conflict with the Shaw family, whom I aimed to connect with. I had planned meticulously for the past ten years, setting up everything, making deals, establishing connections, and even figuring out how Vittos Shaw, my way into their family, fit into the picture.
A decade of preparations was at stake, and I couldn't allow it to be jeopardized by a single failed shipment.
Upon reaching the pier, I headed straight to my front man, Jay. Stepping into the vast building, I saw them surrounding a man with covered eyes. Jay had his gun aimed at him, awaiting my command.
"Drop it, Jay. What's going on here?" I inquired as I approached my group of men.
"He's the mole, Magnus. He's the spy within the group, the eyes of the Shaw family," Jay asserted, with a gun in his hand.
I clenched my jaw, staring at this damn bastard, I knew it, he's the one leaking information about our cross-over shipments. The Shaws are unaware that we have a group opposed to their company.
Our objective is to merge their business with ours, to gain control of all the locations they have, they have no connections, they need my company, and they don't know that like me, all they want is my contacts about the cartel, never realizing what I am capable of.
Our families are rivals, they don't know that I am the heir to the one they betrayed in the past, my uncle Lucio, who took me in, and taught me how to run a company, how to be cold, cunning, and vengeful.
They committed a grave sin against my uncle, and because of them, we roamed around Italy, I can't believe we ended up like that, so we returned to the Philippines and made a big plan, to bring down the Shaws.
But my regret is letting my uncle die without fulfilling his wish, he died of illness, and without leaving any family, I became the heir to everything.
The family background I have is just a credit, I only paid those who acted as my parents growing up, for appearances. I don't want them to see me as a suspicious reason to go back on our agreement, an arranged marriage with their daughter, Vanna.
"The hell is going on?"
“We got this." He handed over a flash drive.
"What's this?"
"These are all the records of our past transactions, Magnus. He's a lich, draining all our information from us. That explains why our sales dropped about a month ago, he's manipulating our transactions." Jay said angrily, holding his gun.
I needed to calm myself down. I approached that bastard and unfolded the file.
"Believe me, Magnus, I'm not the traitor here. That's not mine!" Joe said.
"Any last words?" I said sternly.
"I'm innocent."
"You know what?" I forcefully pulled his hair towards me. I looked into his eyes, trying to discern the truth.
"Magnus."
"Liars go to hell."
In my rage, I snatched Jay's gun and pulled the trigger.
Blood splattered on my face. Even Jay was taken aback by what I did.
I turned my back, showing my anger. "If you don't want to end up like him, don't mess with me." I firmly said to them.
I hoped it would be the last time my hands were stained. I felt guilt inside me, I couldn't control myself from what I did. Besides hating being betrayed, I also didn't want to appear weak in the eyes of others.
Jay walked with me, handing me a towel. "Clean yourself, Magnus."
I took it and wiped my face. If there was one person I trusted, it was Jay. He's like a brother to me, I brought him from the Philippines, his uncle sponsored his education, and he's been by my side ever since.
"Any updates?" I asked while cleaning up.
We are running out of stock of Marijuana in Somalia, they are demanding more shares, we must be careful in placing them," she said, making me more annoyed.
"Fuck them! What do they want us to do? Isn't 70-30 enough? We're the ones handling the shipment, the audacity of them! Tell them, I need quotations of production bills," I roll up my sleeves. Uncovering my wristwatch stained with blood.
"Magnus, there is another bad news," I heard him clear his throat.
"What now?"
I looked at Jay. "The boat has been hijacked. They are demanding twenty grand from us."
"What?" my forehead furrowed more.
"Dollars or Shillings?"
"Dollars." I cursed again; this is the third shipment involved in such transactions.
"I need to talk to Jeb, I need his reports."
"But, he's not here this time, let me handle it."
"Okay, keep me informed."
"Sure, bro." Jay smiled and left for a moment.
I headed towards the car, still holding the flash drive from Joe. I wanted to go through all of it, how did it acquire information about our group even though it's not involved in the shipments, I only trust three people with the shipments, either Jeb, Jill, or June. The three are the ones who report to Jay, who then reports directly to me.
When I arrived home at my flat, I immediately grabbed my laptop and plugged in the flash drive where the records from our past three months are stored. They are organized into folders along with some pictures.
The files are denoted by codes:
L for London
U for Ukraine
N for Netherlands
A for America
However, my attention was caught by a specific folder labeled DISMISSAL. This folder required a four-letter code to access it.
With my mind racing, I struggled to decipher the four folders with initials.
"Damn it!" I muttered, attempting to open them using the letters L-U-N and A. To my surprise, what I found was unexpected.
It was my birth certificate and photos with my uncle Lucio. I also noticed a picture with Jay, Jeb, Jill, June, and Joe. A suspicion crossed my mind that one of the four might be a traitor, although uncertain, I needed to delve into their backgrounds to ensure I wasn't nurturing a snake within my circle.
"Damn it!" I cursed under my breath. Being a leader of a syndicate is no simple task; being a Mafia Boss certainly isn't easy.
Magnus' POVI am sitting in front of the four people I trust the most, wearing my decent suit. Jill holds the cigarette that he's been puffing on since earlier, visibly calming himself down. I can tell he's nervous.Beside him, Jeb checks the time on his own mobile phone. It's almost thirty minutes past our scheduled meeting time, and Jay is still not here. They all know we have a meeting today.Lastly, June stares at me seriously, trying to gauge any intentions I might have towards them.I clench my jaw and control my breathing to remain calm. I want to get explanations from all of them. The services in my industry are failing, and I suspect one of them is trying to provoke me. He's the mole within my company."Where's Jay?" I glance at my watch."He's coming," Jeb replies curtly."It's been thirty minutes," I remark, reaching for the folders on my desk."Maybe we can start now," I say softly, looking at each of them in turn."Why are we here?" June asks.I cleared my throat and hand
Magnus’ POVI push the trolley we're carrying, unable to resist asking why this woman has so much luggage. She only has six bags, without any personal luxurious hand-carry bags. I can't tell if she's going home or not."So slow..." she mutters to me. I chuckle; it's funny how I'm the one struggling with pushing the trolley yet she's the one complaining. Damn it!If I wasn't affectionate, I would've probably kissed it with a whip by now."Magnus, I'm waiting," Vanna adds. She's wearing a cream-colored aristocratic outfit with black flat sandals. Her outfit is belted, and she's wearing black shades. She may be overdressed, but it suits her."I'm coming," I smile and push the bags. She requested to have no bodyguards, and even though it's risky, I agreed. I suppose this country is secure enough.Vanna frowns like a lost child in the aisle, holding a map."What's with that thing?""We need it, so we don't get lost."I laugh a bit. She's really amusing."I've been here a lot, so don't worr
Vanna’s POVI coincidentally hopped on a pedicab right away, as the driver mentioned, that's what they call a vehicle with three wheels. It ran quite fast. I quickly arrived at the airport. I had my ticket in hand, bound for Aklan, but I wasn't going to use it yet; I had money with me. I grabbed my shoulder bag filled with clothes. I only entrusted my bags to Magnus. In reality, all I wanted was to find someone who knew where my family was. I saw a headline news before stating that I could find my brother here in the Philippines. He used to be a bodyguard for a politician. I was headed to the said place, in Zamboanga Del Sur.I immediately purchased a ticket there. When I made up my mind, I headed straight to the airport gate. I had waited my whole life to discover my roots, my siblings, and whether my parents existed somewhere. When I heard the call, I promptly stood up and followed the crowd. The Philippines is densely populated, but I admire the genuine nature of the people. They a
Magnus' POVI am sitting next to Vanna now, and the sleeping child is beside me. We are on our way to Zamboanga. Everything is quiet except for the music playing on the airplane's audio system. The interior design is flawless, with a combination of cream and black colors shining inside. The leather texture seats are brown, matching the elegant carpet below, suitable for six to eight persons. There are tables and a mini bar enclosure in the back for drinks.I have spoken to the pilot and two cabin crew members. Besides that, I have also paid for assistance on all my flights using the airplane.I was deep in thought when I noticed Vanna rolling her eyes at me."What?" I asked her.She just frowned and looked at the child sleeping on my lap. She was leaning on me comfortably."What about this child?" she pointed at the sleeping child."We will find his parents," I firmly replied. I don't want to stress about it. I can talk to many people to handle it."Annoying!" I heard her mumble softl
Magnus' POVWe arrived at the private helipad in Aklan at that time, just waiting for our ride. I noticed Vanna was quiet and seemed not in the mood.Beside me, Ysay was fast asleep due to exhaustion. I let her rest for a bit since we still had time. I went to Vanna's side and sat down."Hey, are you still upset?" She didn't look at me, just stared into space."I'll help you; I asked my friend about your brother's name. I'm having him looked for." My words seemed to grab her attention."Really?" Her expression was a bit off."Yes. Now, if you want my help, please treat me better, don't give me attitude.""Fine. I'm easy to talk to." She said with a big smile. She easily tugged at my ear."I need a sooner update, okay?" she added with another smile."Let's go." I said, taking her hand. She stood up quickly. I decided to carry Ysay and we proceeded, heading down the airplane and getting into the waiting car. Vanna held my arms as I guided her. I don't know, but my feelings were unfamili
Vanna's POVI had just finished changing into my pajamas when I couldn't sit still while applying lotion on my arms. Magnus was already in bed, waiting for me.With each step towards him, my heart pounded harder, as if there were cats and dogs chasing after inside my heart.Damn it!"What are you standing there for? Come here." He called me over, patting the space beside him.Damn it! I walked over with bitten lips, my nerves trembling. I held my own muscles, allowing myself to approach him. As I got closer, he guided me on purpose."You smell luxurious.""Of course." I hid the trembling in my voice."Now tell me, do you prefer the lights on or off?"I gulped, unsure of what to say. I didn't know if I could even sleep, knowing that Magnus Daviro would be by my side.Shit! I didn't notice his body getting closer to mine. I felt warmth."Are you okay?" He asked me."I'm... I'm... I guess I need to chan
Magnus' POVUpon arriving in Manila, I immediately met Jay. He followed me to the Philippines because of a favor I asked for. He will be handling my transaction to Guam. Honestly, I am a bit annoyed at what happened because the allocation within our group and our partner in Guam was once again chaotic. When we descended into a secluded abandoned building location owned by Jay, I saw him with some of our men."What's the matter?" I asked. I was also accompanied by some private civilian bodyguards who have been with me since Vanna and I landed here. I didn't tell Vanna, but they were undercover for my preference, as Vanna wanted no bodyguards in the Philippines."Magnus, I suggest we need to negotiate with the officials in Guam."As I approached Jay, the distance between us was almost nose-to-nose. He knew I was angry with him. I stared directly into his eyes."Give me some reason why I should trust you...again, Jay."I saw him gulp and clear his thr
Vanna's POVEven though I was a bit tipsy, I deliberately went to see that guy. I have a strong feeling that he is the one who took Ysay. After all, he was the only one who managed to enter our exclusive rental villa. As I scanned the beachline, I noticed the lighthouse benches and lined chaises. I looked around the patio area and the poolside, but there was no one there as Magnus rented it for a week."Ugh! Where is that jerk? I'll really give that kidnapper a piece of my mind!" I was a little out of it due to the alcohol. When I reached the parking lot, I saw him at just the right moment, that nerve face!He smiled at me like he was waiting for me to arrive."Hey!" I snapped.I approached him and pointed a finger at him."Where's Ysay! Did you kidnap her, huh?"I peered into the window of his parked car."My god! Did you rape Ysay!?" I hysterically accused him to his face."Hey, calm down!" he said as he grabbed my arm. I quickly d
