Melody kept hiding behind Mark's body when the man continued to exchange fire with his enemy.
Mark regretted not giving Melody the bulletproof vest earlier, that girl was always in danger when she was with him, so, shouldn't Mark be more vigilant?
Mark pulled Melody's hand, making her close to his back.
Mark frowned in confusion as all of his enemies withdrew and stopped shooting when a group of men came. A man in a very neat formal suit, accompanied by several of his men.
A heavy sigh escaped Mark's mouth. The man also gave a code to his men for them to retreat immediately.
"Not bad, you used to lose a lot of members when I came, I think it's much better now," said the man in a black suit.
Melody peeked from between Mark's shoulders, she saw the man in a black suit with a haughty style staring at them.
"You came to test me? Damn it, I'm busy, go!" growled Mark.
"Hey, don't snap like that, you got to this position because of me, be nice!" exclaimed the man as he walked arrogantly toward Mark.
Mark kept his gun back and took a deep breath.
"As if I wanted it," Mark snapped.
The man laughed, then hugged Mark, making Melody take a few steps away from Mark's back.
"Hey! There's a woman!" shouted the man then let go of his arms from Mark.
The man looked at Melody from head to toe, then grinned strangely.
"Who's she?"
"My slave!" said Mark lightly.
"Give her to me!" exclaimed the man enthusiastically.
Mark shook his head slowly, grabbed the back of the man's coat, and took him away from Melody.
"Well, Jullian, the Young Master of the White Eagle group wants a slave from my slums. Don't waste your time, go! After all, you can get any woman with just your index finger, so why to look at someone else's?" grumbled Mark with an annoyed look.
The man in the black suit named Jullian scowled in annoyance. Jullian is the heir to the throne of the White Eagle mafia group. He also helped Mark to gain recognition from the Eagle group alliance consisting of the Black Eagles, White Eagles, and Harpy Eagles.
"I've never seen such a natural beauty. If you don't want her, just give her to me! I see you're not very experienced with women!" joked Jullian.
Jullian scowled at Melody's oversized dress, too bad a girl as beautiful as she had to wear something more appropriate for a scarecrow.
"Why should I take care of her? She is my slave, she should take care of me!" Mark protested with his hands on his hips.
"A great man is one who can take care of his own well! Look at what clothes you put on that girl!" Julian shook his head.
Mark glanced at Melody and looked at the girl from head to toe. He felt there was nothing wrong with the girl's dress. So why is Jullian fussing over something that doesn't exist?
"It doesn't matter if I'm not a great guy! Get lost before I kick you out!" threatened Mark.
Julian looked straight at Mark. Mark with his tissue-thin patience. Dealing with Mark was never a pleasure.
"We have some things to talk about, regarding KENZO!"
Hearing Jullian mention the name of the KENZO group, Mark's head immediately throbbed with pain. What other problems are the parents fussing over?
"Let's talk in my room!" After saying that, Mark walked angrily to his room.
Meanwhile, Ben takes Melody away from the headquarters.
"You didn't ask Mark's permission first?" asked Melody scared.
"They're about to discuss internal Eagle group matters, so we better not interfere. Besides, aren't you still hungry? I'm sure you didn't have time to eat much just now. Oh, there's a boutique located not far from here, so perhaps we could stop by for a bit, and buy some of the things you need! Well, Mark isn't a very understanding person, so he doesn't really know what you need!" Ben shouted as he opened the car door for Melody.
"I'm not very picky about clothes, I don't mind wearing whatever Mark gives me, but really, I need some underwear!" said Melody then went in and sat in the car.
Ben smiled faintly, then took Melody to the boutique and invited her to eat at a small cafe not far from there.
"Ben, may I ask a question?" asked Melody doubtfully.
Ben, who was eating a cheeseburger in his hand, only nodded in response to Melody's question.
"You said before that the kind Mark was very tormented when he first kill someone," Melody said quietly.
"Hum, yeah! Mark is a kind-hearted man. He is a kind, innocent, and very friendly man. He really doesn't fit in with the mafia world! But everything changed when his father died. At that time, another mafia group tried to take over the Black Eagle group. So, like it or not, Mark had to replace his father's role to lead our group. Ah, I remember how sour his face was when I pointed out the businesses we were running one by one," Ben said casually.
"If Mark doesn't want it, why not just let another group take it? Well, he doesn't have to deal with the mafia anymore!" said Melody quickly.
"You're so naive Melody! If another group takes over the Black Eagles, all the core members along with the entire family will be annihilated. They won't be spared a single one. That's why Mark took over as the leader."
Melody fell silent.
"So, Mark was forced to become a mafia to save his family?" asked Melody doubtfully.
"Not only his family but all the core members and their families, including me and my family. Why do you think I want to put up with this angry man who only knows how to swear and raise his gun? That's because I'm very grateful he wants to defend this group! " Ben smiled crookedly then went back to chewing his burger.
"Why don't you just run away?"
This time Ben laughed crisply at Melody's question. Really, that girl was so naive.
"Do you think it's easy to run away and hide from them? I'd say almost impossible!"
Melody's forehead immediately furrowed at Ben's answer. Her mind was immediately filled with so many questions.
"Is the mafia world that terrible?" asked Melody slowly.
"More terrible than you think. The world is full of deception and danger. You've only been with us a few days, so, you don't know how sad the mafia world is. It's really tiring!" Ben exclaimed casually.
Melody just took a deep breath. She then put the pizza back into her mouth.
"Um, Ben... do you think it's possible for me to be free from Mark? Well, you must understand that no one wants to be a slave, maid, or whatever it called for life," Melody asked hesitantly. She stared straight at Ben trying to guess what the man was thinking with his furrowed brow.
"Sorry to say this, but you can't escape Mark! There are only two choices you have, Melody..." Ben looked straight at Melody.
"What is that?"
"Survive or die!"
Hearing Ben's answer, Melody froze in place. Her knees felt weak and hot.
"Why?" whispered Melody confused.
"You already know our identities, base, and things, we'll have to kill you if you go. Therefore, instead of endangering yourself, try to survive. No, I don't think just surviving won't be enough, try to enjoy it! If you do be nice to Mark, please him, I'm sure he'd do anything for you!" Ben looked at Melody with a meaningful look.
"What if Mark frees me? Are you still going to hunt me down and kill me?" asked Melody quickly.
Ben fell silent.
"No one will dare to touch you if Mark forbids it," Ben finally said.
Melody took a deep breath. At least there is hope. If she can win Mark's heart, maybe Mark will be kind enough to let her go.
"Ben, do you know how to please Mark?" asked Melody with wide eyes.
Ben thought for a moment, then nodded slowly.
"Maybe I know some way,"
"What's that?" shouted Melody enthusiastically.
Melody had just gotten into the car when a gunshot sounded so hard that it hit the car they were in. Ben, who looked annoyed, immediately took his gun and got ready to leave.Mark, who was sitting beside Melody, only took a deep breath as he looked back. When Melody followed Mark's line of sight, she froze when she saw a small crack in the windshield of the car they were in."Relax; this car is bulletproof, so you're safe here," Mark said casually.Melody still had her eyes wide open when she saw Ben having a shootout with a group of people outside. They had just stepped out of the Mark family's main house when this incident occurred. Is mafia life really like this? They should continue to fight whenever the need arises. Life was not something they could respect; why could it be so easy to kill someone? Melody really couldn't believe this."You experience this every day?" Melody spoke slowly to Mark, who was currently busy with the cell phone in his hand."Yeah, it's nothing." Mark th
"There's one of our bases not far from here, would you like to stop by?" Ben asked quietly. Mark, who was leaning back while closing his eyes, sighed heavily for the umpteenth time today. Leading a group that was on the verge of being destroyed is no easy feat. Mark is the only child of the leader of the Black Eagle mafia group. His father, who died tragically due to an accident, made him inevitably take over his father's position, and become the leader of the Black Eagle group. Too much to take care of. Even though Mark had tried to solve their group's problems one by one, the problems kept coming and made his head hurt. It was this very heavy burden that made him turn into a temperamental man. Mark felt like he could explode anytime he was touched, because of that, everyone was afraid of him. Everyone except Ben. Ben is a crazy man who is very used to Mark's bad behavior. Because of that, Ben is always by Mark's side. "Let's stop by, I'm thirsty." said Mark briefly. Without say
Melody fell on the floor because her knees suddenly felt weak. With slow motions, she brought her hand to her face and examined her bloodied hand.It happened so fast, Melody had just set foot in a place that Mark called the headquarters when someone was shot and his blood sprayed on Melody's body. How could Melody not be surprised? This was the first time she saw someone being shot dead right in front of her."What's wrong?" asked Mark who was standing right beside Melody.Mark looked at one of his men who was still holding a gun."That idiot was almost caught by the police! They're not the cops we know, so that makes me nervous!" cried the man while putting the gun back under his jacket.Melody, who was still sitting on the floor, tried to glance at the man she believed was dead. How can they be so vicious? How could they easily kill someone?"Hey, don't you want to stand up?" Melody held her head which still felt heavy. She didn't know how long she had been vomiting like that since the last time she accompanied Mark to kill his enemy. The fishy smell of blood and the corpses lying irregularly on the floor made her head dizzy and her stomach sick. Melody's body was completely limp now.Mark and Ben finished off all the cops, then burned them to ashes and scattered the ashes in the sea. Melody saw all of that with her own eyes, how cruel and heartless Mark and Ben were.In Melody's eyes, Mark and Ben weren't human. What kind of human could do that without feeling the slightest bit of guilt?"Can you stop throwing up? My head is spinning from hearing your voice in the toilet!" Mark snapped as soon as Melody returned to the man's room. The toilet is not soundproof, so Mark can hear every time Melody vomits."Sorry, I'm not used to seeing and smelling blood, it makes me sick," Melody said quietly."I asked you to move to another place, a place that is better, m
