ZORA
W-What do you mean by that statement, Zayn? Tell me it's a prank," I stuttered, completely stunned as my husband introduced the lady to us.
The audacity stabbed deeply into my chest. How could he be so bold to say that to us?
"Don't act surprised, Zora. It's nothing new, is it? You already knew there's no love in our union, but you overlooked it, forcing things that are not meant to be," Zayn remarked, worsening the pain I'm feeling.
"No, Zayn. There is love. I have loved you and will always do. What is it that I'm not doing right, Zayn?" I stuttered, my voice weak.
"Yes, I know, Zora. But haven't you asked yourself if it's the same for me too? Come on, it has been a one-sided love. You should be grateful because I made it open to you that I'm no longer interested instead of keeping you in the marriage to torment you," he said, his voice bold and exuding authority.
My throat felt so dry upon hearing that. Even Blake and Daisy, my friend, were shocked to their marrow as well. The truth is that no one expected this.
"Uhm, hi," the tall, slim woman spoke for the first time.
I couldn't bring myself to look at her.
"I can understand how you feel because I'm a woman as well," she went on, not minding that I wasn't giving her any attention.
"You might have heard of me. I'm Paige, as Zayn had stated earlier," she said and took off her sunglasses.
"I'm Zayn's ex-girlfriend. Don't know if he told you. We went to the same high school and had some misunderstandings before we graduated. We couldn't sort out our issue because I left the country immediately to further my education."
"Well, as fate may have it, I and Zayn met again when he visited England, where I stay, and we sorted our beef because it's never too late to rekindle our love," she stated, smiling and glaring at Zayn, who was smiling sheepishly.
I couldn't say a word but kept staring in the empty direction. I was totally broken down. Something I thought would be a good meeting has started turning into the worst meeting of my life. Had I known, I wouldn't have requested his comeback since it's not going to be beneficial to me but worsen my situation.
"Well, Zora, I can understand how you're feeling. You might be shocked, but..."
"Yes, Zayn. She's shocked. Zora is shocked to realize the man she had been building with for a whopping three years decided to reward her this way. Tell me why she won't feel bad," Blake reprimanded him, cutting him off his speech.
Zayn let out a short smile. "I know, Blake, but do you think it's crucial to force things that are not meant to be? It's okay to go where you find joy rather than forcing yourself into a situation you know won't yield anything to both parties," Zayn said, still smiling at Paige and even stroking her hand tenderly.
This broke my heart into more pieces. He doesn't act and sound like someone who could be corrected.
From his words and replies, I already know that this meeting isn't going to yield anything positive.
I gazed at Blake, and I could see confusion portrayed on his and Daisy's countenance. None of us was able to digest the shock the incident unfolding in our presence was giving us.
After a few seconds of silence among us, Blake sighed and cleared his throat to speak. "Alright, at least you both should have a seat first so we can discuss and settle this issue properly. We didn't call this meeting to banter words with each other."
Zayn and the lady then walked up to enough space and sat down, clutching their hands like legally married people.
I dragged a long breath and finally raised my gaze towards the lady, as I couldn't withstand it anymore. How could Zayn have the nerve to invite his mistress to a meeting concerning our union, and she boldly accepted to follow him?
"I understand you're his ex-girlfriend, but don't you realize he's married and doesn't belong to you anymore? He's mine now," I said without thinking much of my words. I didn't even know when I yelled out those words out of frustration.
Hearing this, Zayn let out a chuckle. "I don't even know if I've been talking to a statue or a human. Well, I repeat, that's where the divorce comes in. Sign the divorce papers so I could have my way out of this bondage called marriage," he said, turning to the lady.
Gently, he cupped her cheeks and turned to me again. "Let's finalize this divorce so I could spend the rest of my life with the love of my life," he added.
To be honest, his statement was like a punch in my gut. Seeing how rudely he talks to me and berates me just because of his ex. At this point, I realized there was no need to try to convince him anymore.
Daisy was actually right when she mentioned Zayn being in a relationship with Paige, his ex.
"Zayn, are you really sure you want to do this? You want to divorce your lovely wife for your ex-girlfriend?" Blake asked him, as he was also tired of convincing him.
"She was never my lovely wife, and she knows it," Zayn replied. "Zora, you know very well I never loved you and also know that I married you so I could inherit my father's billion-dollar assets."
"Don't tell me you weren't seeing the red flags when we were dating. I settled for you because Paige left me and I was lonely. If you really know the value of what I'm doing, you would end this back and forth and grant this divorce," he paused and dragged in a long breath.
"Don't think you're doing me a favor, but both of us. You'd also be free to meet your right spouse, not stay where you aren't loved," he added.
I couldn't stand it anymore, so I left the gathering and rushed upstairs, crying while heading to my room. I was so defeated and felt like a commoner. I just wish I could have the opportunity to meet my creator and question Him why all this was happening to me.
It wasn't up to a year since I lost my parents in a ghastly car accident, and now this. My husband insists on divorcing me.
A few minutes later, while I was in my room, the door opened, and Daisy barged in.
"Zora, I think we should inform the Human Rights Authority about this," she said as she sat next to me.
"We need to get rid of this lady trying to break your marriage."
I breathed a long sigh and turned to look at her. "Do you really think that would help, Daisy? There's no point in that because there's no law against divorce," I said, wiping the tears in my eyes.
"So what do we do?"
"I'm going to sign it," I said and gulped hard.
Daisy's countenance changed instantly, and she glared at me with caution in her eyes.
"Yes, Daisy. That's the best decision so I could have peace of mind. No doubt I would miss him, but I'll definitely heal with time," I said with tears. I had cried so much that I developed a runny nose.
Daisy was startled. She was short of words, and tears strolled down her cheeks as well. She held my cheeks and dabbed the tears and running nose on my nostril, and we hugged each other tightly.
A few seconds later, I wriggled free from her and encouraged her I was not making a wrong move before strolling down to meet Zayn, Blake, and Paige.
Upon arrival, he had already presented the divorce papers on the table while convincing Blake to support him, but Blake didn't pay heed to any of his words.
As soon as Zayn saw me step down from the step, a smile forced out of his lips as he stared at me. "Have you decided to sign it?" he asked, looking curious.
I didn't respond to him but went straight to the table, picked up the pen, and signed the papers.
"Yes!" Zayn yelled as soon as I penned down my signature on the papers. He hugged Paige. They had a long, passionate kiss that lasted up to about five seconds before Blake disrupted them.
"Zayn, are you aware we're still here? At least have some respect for me and my wife, even if you don't have for your wife."
"Point of correction, ex-wife, not wife anymore," he said and turned to look at his mistress, who cheered him up with a smile.
"Moreover, I don't think there is anything important to talk about since the main motive of this meeting has been finalized. Is there?" he added and Paige waved her head in support.
Blake clenched his jaw in fury. From his looks, I could see he was really disappointed in Zayn.
"Alright. I know she's expecting compensation," Zayn went on, turning in my direction.
He then dipped his hand into his file, took out a stack of papers, and dropped them in front of me.
"This is the legal document of my estate in Freemantle district. I'm giving it to you as compensation."
"Isn't that much? A whole estate!" I could hear Paige attack him.
"Don't worry, sweetie; I don't want her to come up with any excuse to disrupt our union. No worries, I have many estates," Zayn responded to her with a whisper.
A wry smile escaped from the corner of my lips after hearing those words. "I don't need your estate, Zayn. My love for you can not be measured with your wealth. After all, I married you when you were not yet wealthy, and I wouldn't have done that if I didn't love you," I said and left the scene immediately while Daisy rushed after me.
"Zora, at least accept this offer," she whispered.
ZORA"What are you doing, Zora?" Daisy asked me as she approached. Her face was laced with disappointment."At least accept the offer. You can't just spend three years with him only to leave with nothing. Please rethink. Go back and collect those documents," she urged me."I really understand you, Daisy, but I'm not interested in the offer. I loved Zayn with my whole heart and not because of his status. Please just let me have my way to my room so I could get my things and leave."Hearing this, Daisy couldn't help but coldly walk out of the way for me."I really appreciate your kindness towards me, but I'm not really interested in any of his offers," I told her and proceeded to my room while she sluggishly left.A few minutes later, I was done packing my luggage, and I stormed out of the room, heading downstairs to leave the house.Upon walking down, Daisy and her husband weren't there anymore. Zayn and Paige were the only ones who remained, as they were busy playing lovebirds and disc
It's been three weeks since I moved into Daisy's home, and I must say they are the best humans I've met on this earth. They made me forget about my marriage crash and showered me with love and care.I felt valued and happy, more than when I was with Zayn. However, since I had no job, I always felt like a burden to them, even though Daisy would tell me not to worry about it.At one point, her husband promised to secure me a job in one of his companies, which would take some months, if not a year, after they had made some rearrangements. However, I decided to start a part-time job at one of the top restaurants in the city while waiting for the opportunity.Today started off hectic for me due to my pregnancy issue. I wasn't feeling well, but I decided to manage and go to work since I hadn't requested leave yesterday. My senior colleagues and boss might think I intentionally chose not to come to work.As I walked in and went to the dressing room to put on my uniform, a colleague knocked on
Five Years Later"Mommy, are you not going to work today?" I could hear my daughter ask while I was sleeping.I slowly opened my eyes, and there she was, trying to put on her school clothes. A smile forced its way across my lips as I saw the effort she was putting into dressing herself but couldn't.I glanced at the clock and panicked in shock, "Oh my goodness." I never knew it was already 7:30 a.m."I instantly jumped out of bed and took her to the restroom for a shower. I had worked so stressfully yesterday that I couldn't wake up early today, as usual, to prepare for work and drive my kid to school.A few minutes later, I finished bathing her and dressed her quickly before we headed to the garage to go to her school."Mommy, remember you promised to take me to the amusement park today after school? Are you still going to fulfill it?" She asked while I was driving."Of course,
Just then, a knock came on the door."Yes, who's there?" he asked, but no one responded. This infuriated Mr. Jason, and he sighed in annoyance, then turned and focused on me."I'm sorry, I guess I have started hallucinating."I chuckled in amusement. "Not at all, sir. I also heard the knock. Let's assume it's caused by the breeze. You know your office is the last on this floor," I replied, and he responded with a smile."So, like I was saying, you'll tell me the secret of this sudden beauty of yours. You're becoming more beautiful daily," he went on, causing me to blush."If you say so, sir. By the way, I applied some facial blush; maybe that's what's confusing you.""I'm old enough to differentiate lush beauty and natural beauty," he insisted, staring at me with admiration.I couldn't help but fix my gaze on the desk, as I was too shy to glare at him anymore."In honesty, your beauty is one of the key factors I don't miss work anymore."I couldn't help but start twitching my fingers i
On our way to Southampton City, I was chatting with Daisy, my friend, because Jason was the one driving.Daisy: "Are you really going to Southampton City?"Zora: "Yes, dear, I'm going for a quick lunch with some investors. There's nothing to be worried about. It's just business."Daisy: "Sigh. What if you meet an unwanted guest at the meeting?"I couldn't help but chuckle, and Jason noticed."What's amusing you this time?" His eyes locked on mine as he asked."It's my friend, actually. She said something funny," I replied, my smile broadening."I see," he chipped in and concentrated on the wheel while I replied to Daisy's question.Zora: "That's unlikely to happen, but even if it does, it doesn't affect me anymore as I have moved on."Daisy: "You're right. Riffraffs don't deserve your feelings anymore, as responsible men are queuing to be with you."I chuckled again unknowingly, noticing what she meant. Daisy is always naughty and mostly talks about Jason's likeness towards me and als
My throat suddenly felt dry at his request. I was still uncomfortable being here today, and he's talking about bringing me here for the second time for a dinner."Erm, that would be great," I said, masking my emotions. "But honestly, you already know how busy I am lately, and I use weekends for my home chores and spending time with my girl.""Oh, alright. It's not a problem at all," Jason replied, smiling as if nothing had happened. To be honest, this is one of the reasons I like him; he never tries to force things on me or persuade me to accept his requests. He would just say it's fine and pretend as if nothing happened.Unless it's business-related, he would then look for a proper time to make the request for the second time, which I would hardly decline."So what would you like to drink while we wait for the Zech Holdings representatives?" he aske
"It's a pleasure to meet you, sir," the first man remarked, stretching out his hand in request of a handshake with Jason, and he accepted."You're welcome, sir," Jason replied with a smile on his lips as they exchanged handshakes, and he turned to greet others, only to see me approaching."Oh, there she is, Zora Paulson. The mastermind behind our revolutionary project," he said proudly with excitement and a smile all over his face.I couldn't help but force out a smile to greet the men as they turned to see me. However, my smile froze for some seconds as I and Zayn locked eyes. He's the one opposite Jason, and he's facing me."Zora! Finally, I found you," he said with excitement. The happiness was evident on his face, just like someone who had found a hidden treasure. My legs trembled, and I nearly lost my balance. I never expected this to happen. To see Zayn again in the same room where he humiliated me together with his wife Paige."What is he doing here?" I found myself questioning
"I can see you're yet to forget the incident. Hence, you have refused to talk to me. Well, I bought it under your name as compensation for what I did.""Erm..." I was choked with words. I didn't even know what to say at this point because I hadn't expected to hear that from him."Please, can we just focus on the reason we're here?" I said, trying to look serene, but deep down inside me, I was seething. I was dying of embarrassment that I wish the ground could just swallow me whole.I knew Zayn is always full of surprises, but not to this extent. Doesn't he know what to do with his money any longer? Why purchase it with my name? What happened to Paige?"Please, I'm lost here. Could any of you tell me exactly what's going on?" Jason asked, confusion flickering across his face and eyes."Well, I really understand how you're feeling right now," said Zayn, completely disregarding Jason's existence, let alone answering his question."I will feel the same if I were in your shoes," he added,
ZORA —"Can you please attend the meeting Lisa told you about? We need to have a brief meeting with the directors," I requested, my eyelids raised as I expected his response."Well, that's actually the main reason I called you. Unfortunately, I can't attend the meeting because it's a waste of time for me and the directors," he said. However, he wasn't harsh to me. I thought he would scold me and asked me not to set foot in his company, but he didn't. Instead, he was cold with his responses."How? By the time you arrive, everyone would be done with what they're doing," I blurted out, trying to convince him to show up, but he was not ready to relent from his decision."No, Zora. I've already made up my mind, and that's it. I hope you respect that.""Um, how about Daisy? Won't you like to see her? Are you also mad at her?" I asked immediately before he could end the call. There was a moment of silence from Jason's end. Deep down, he doesn't want to have anything to do with me anymore, bu
ZORA—"Ah! Jason? He didn't tell you? He has stopped working here," said Lisa with a creased forehead, making me stare at her moronically because it hit me hard. Is she trying to pull my leg or what? If Jason doesn't work here anymore, where could he be working? I hope he's not considering suicidal thoughts."But he's the owner of this place? Did he officially announce his resignation, or did you conclude it after not seeing him for long?" I asked her, tucking my hair behind my ear as I concentrated on her reply. Inside of me, I was already praying hard for it not to be what I'm thinking."I'm not saying based on assumption, Zora; I'm stating a fact. I even heard that he has got a buyer, and they're negotiating the price.""Buyer?" I asked with my jaw dropped. What is really going on? Could it be that Zayn went ahead with his plan of purchasing Tech Savvy Strategies, and Jason accepted? I shrugged off the thoughts because Jason, as far as I know, is not desperate for money to do that
ZORA—"Mommy, wake up; it's morning already," I heard my daughter's voice as she barged into my room, causing me to sigh exasperatedly because I hadn't wanted to wake up by this time.I rolled myself to face her and stared at her for a few seconds before sighing. "Honey, it's not yet school time, okay? By the way, your schoolteacher just called yesterday and informed me of the postponement of your school's resuming date.""Huh, why would they do that?" She said with a frown."Are you not happy that you have more days to enjoy?" I asked with a surprised look. I thought she'd like to spend more days at home playing video games."I hate it. I'm missing my friends, especially Sophia and Liam. I want to see them." She responded with a decisive tone, making me chuckle. I thought she was missing studies, but she was after her friends."No worries, you'll see them soon, okay?" I said, and she nodded in affirmation and turned to leave.I sighed and was about to continue sleeping when she stopp
DAISY —I had been worried since last night because of Blake's absence in the house. He had never acted this way before since we got married."Could it be that he got kidnapped on his way back, or did his car develop a technical issue, and he decided to park and spend the night at a hotel?" I asked myself, trying to figure out what might have gone wrong."At least he should have answered my calls if he's in a good state," I doubted, sighing in frustration, tears welling up in my eyes as I tried to stay strong."Gosh, God, don't let this befall me. I'm too young to be a widow. I don't even have a child," I cried, felt so emotional that the tears I had been controlling began streaming down my cheeks without my notice until a drop touched my lips.I quickly wiped my eyes and took my phone. I went online and searched for my husband to know the last time he was online.{Active five minutes ago}"Really? He was active a few minutes ago and didn't bother to call me back. Could it be that he
Blake —I felt completely weakened and confused. "Are you trying to blackmail me, Danielle?" I asked, trying so hard not to make my fretting obvious to her.She swallowed the lump that formed in her throat, tucked the few strands of hair cascading down her cheeks behind her back, and turned to me with a mean expression."I'm not here to debate, Mr. Blake. I've already fulfilled my mission, so you should do what's necessary; otherwise, your wife will find out...""No, no, no. It's fine. Let's settle it here, please," I said with tension, reaching into my wallet and taking out a few bundles of dollars. "I hope you'll leave me alone now. You have to delete those videos in my presence so everything will be sorted out," I said, expecting her to comply."Alright," she said, unlocking her phone and deleting the videos as I requested."Good. I hope you can now stay away from me and never disclose what happened here to my wife. I hope the money is enough for you," I said, my voice a mix of ser
Blake —My hand landed on something soft, and my subconscious guided them to form a gentle circle, as if cradling a delicate object. The sensation brought me a strange sense of satisfaction, and I pinched them. The softness made me wake up to see what it really was, and then I saw her—a lady lying close to me.“Ah…” I gasped in shock, taken aback as I noticed it was her breasts that I was touching all this while. Apparently, she was naked because she only covered her body with the duvet, but some parts of her cleavage were showing.I was startled upon realizing that I was in a hotel room with a naked lady.I slowly raised the duvet to observe myself, to confirm if my instincts were right, but unfortunately, it is what it is—I was naked as well."What is going on here? How did I get here?" I asked, shaking her and waking her up from sleep.I could only remember going to the bar to drink in order to forget my problems, especially the issue of childlessness in my marriage, but finding my
ZAYN—"Babe, what about your friend Daisy? I haven't seen you talking to her or mentioning her lately. Are you still in touch with her?" He asked, running his fingers through my hair as I rested my head on his chest, feeling the softness of his beard. We both were lying on the bed, taking advantage of that prime time of the early hours of the morning. Unlike usual, we didn't have sex today because we had enough last night—in fact, almost throughout yesterday was sex that we accomplished."Of course I do. But you stole my attention throughout this period that I couldn't even think of calling her," she replied, sighing and giving me an unserious deadpan look.I chuckled and responded, "As it should be. I deserve all the attention.""While I don't deserve yours, right?" She asked with a tone of jealousy, leaving me curious. Hadn't I been giving her my attention since our reunion?"What is that supposed to mean? Had I not been here with you throughout this week, I didn't even visited my o
DAISY —"So, doctor, what is the result?" Blake asked as soon as he barged into the doctor's office upon the doctor's summons. However, when he saw the solemn look on my face, his body weakened instantly."Um, calm down, Mr. Blake. Please have a seat," the doctor remarked, bringing out the test results. Before she could even stretch out her hand to give them to Blake, he snatched them from her and began scanning through them."Fuck!" He exclaimed, kicking the air with his hand as he saw what was written there. He exhaled a deep sigh of frustration before swallowing the lump that formed in his throat."Calm down, Mr. Blake. None of you are to be blamed for this unfortunate situation, but..."Blake did not even wait for the doctor to finish speaking, and he rose to his feet, flinging the test result to me and heading out of the office with his gaze upcast. He wasn't happy at all.At that moment, with the expression on his face, if a fly mistakenly perched on his face, it was surely goin
ZORA—"So what do you think of what your mother said?" I asked Zayn, who was resting his head on my bosom. We had just returned from the lawn fun activities, and now we were resting in our bedroom while Daisy was in her room as well, sleeping. It's almost night, so we're just waiting for dinner before going to bed.The activities at Nicholas' mansion have left her so tired that she just went to bed upon arrival."She did make sense, but I don't know what to say," he answered, taking his head off my bosom to meditate."Do you mean that you don't have a say in this issue?" I asked him with a creased forehead, infuriated by his response."Not at all, dear. Don't misquote me. I'm just... I'm... I'm. Damn, in fact, come stay with me here. After all, I'm a billionaire and can take care of you and our baby without any stress," he said, sighing.I exhaled a deep breath, silent for a while, which made him worried."You're not talking?" he asked, exasperated by my silence."What should I have do
