What happened, Daisy?" I asked her as she stared at the phone screen for a while after answering the call.
"Oh, it's my husband. He said he's returning tonight," Daisy replied and forced a smile at me.
"Alright. Let's wait for him then," I replied, sitting up so I wouldn't fall asleep.
"No, dear. You should sleep. He'll come late because their flight hasn't even taken off. He would have to call me when he's back," she replied.
"Alright then. Hopefully, he comes back safely. Goodnight," I responded and went to bed. A few minutes later, after going through her phone, Daisy went to their marital bedroom to sleep as well.
I woke up after hearing some noise, and it was coming from the kitchen. I reached for my phone and powered it on. It was then that it dawned on me that it was already morning and that it was Daisy's maids who were making the sound in the kitchen as they were cooking.
I rose from the bed and walked into the restroom to wash my face before strolling out to meet Daisy and her husband in the sitting room where they were discussing.
As I walked in and saw them, I couldn't help but feel emotional about how happy and playful the couple's duo is to each other. Daisy was resting her head on her husband while he was busy cupping her cheeks and styling her hair while they discussed.
Words couldn't tell exactly how I felt because this was exactly how I wished I and Zayn could be to each other, but in reality, it was vice versa. He hardly creates time for me to discuss; talk more of sitting together and treating me like a baby.
"Good morning, Mr. Blake," I greeted him and smiled at Daisy.
"Good morning, Zora," he replied, excusing himself from his wife Daisy so he could give me attention. "How are you?"
"I'm fine, sir. Welcome back from your trip."
"Glad you're looking better now than last night," Daisy chipped in, and I chuckled, pretending as if I'd healed from the incident. "Thankfully," I said.
"Zora, Daisy had told me everything that happened. I'm really so sorry that you're experiencing this from my friend," Blake said and took in a deep breath.
I sighed in grief and gulped down the lump in my throat. "That's what yesterday brought to me," I snapped, forcing out a smile.
"Don't worry, Zora. I had called him this morning. He promised to be back in the city so we could discuss the issue."
Upon hearing this, my knees instantly went down. "Thank you so much, Mr. Blake. I really want my marriage to work, and I will really be grateful to you if Zayn changes his mind," I remarked, tears of joy streaming down my cheeks.
"It's okay, stand up." He held me up to my feet and cuddled me, wiping the tears in my eyes.
A few minutes later, I left them for the visitor's room where I stayed. I took my phone and decided to call Zayn. At least hear his voice.
As I dialed his number, it rang for some while and wasn't picked up. I sighed. My old self would have given up calling after the first one, but since it was about Zayn, I couldn't bring myself to do so. I eagerly wanted to hear his voice and know if he had changed his mind to accept me back.
However, as I dialed the number for the second time, it rang for some time before it was finally picked up.
"Hello, who's on the line?" A feminine female voice sounded from the other end of the call.
My body shivered as I heard the question, and the phone nearly fell out of my grip. Zayn never allowed me to touch his phone, not to mention answering his phone calls, but this woman did so.
Her melodious voice made me feel less of a woman. Should I worry about the fact that my call was picked up by a woman, or the question?
The fact she was asking who it was broke my heart more. It means Zayn had deleted my number as he threatened. Hence, the lady couldn't identify who it was.
"Uhm," I took a deep breath, trying to hold myself in order. I didn't want to act silly because it wasn't her fault after all.
"This is Zora calling," I managed to reply, gulping hard the saliva that nearly choked me.
"Oh, Zayn is in the restroom. I'll let him know he received a call when he's done bathing," she added.
My hand quivered, but I managed to firm my grip so my phone doesn't fall. My heart is in pain. I couldn't believe what she had just said.
"Zayn abandoned me in the house to lodge with a different woman because I'm sure that voice isn't even that of Nora, his assistant manager," I whimpered.
"Erm, I'm sorry, but who are you?" I asked, expecting her reply. To my greatest surprise, she ended the call.
I was startled that I didn't know when the phone fell out of my hand and shattered on the floor.
"Oh God, why always me? What have I done to deserve this?" I cried, curling my hands on my bosom as I tried not to cry out loud so Daisy and her husband wouldn't hear it.
—
In the afternoon, Daisy and her husband were at my place, as it was the time Zayn promised Mr. Blake to show up so we could sort out our marriage issue according to Blake.
We sat at the outdoor lounge of the house, sipping from the drinks my servants had just served us.
I returned here in the morning to make sure there was merriment for this event because, to me, it's going to be a reunion party since Blake assured me that he'd work it out.
I made sure there were drinks of all kinds and enough food to serve to everyone after the peace talk. Only if I knew what awaited me in the future.
A few minutes later, a car's honk was heard at the gate, and the security man didn't waste time opening the gate upon verifying it was Zayn.
Slowly, he drove in and steered to the parking lot.
With anticipation and excitement, I stood up and watched, waiting for him to alight from the car and then walk over to us in the lounge so we could proceed to the reason for this gathering.
I was confused when Zayn walked out, headed to the passenger's seat, and opened the door.
"What does this mean? Is Zayn opening a door for someone? In his own car?" I was baffled. Zayn isn't working for someone or under anyone to say he came with his boss, so what's the meaning of this?
Just then, a female shoe clad appeared on the floor, and swiftly, a tall, slim lady walked out of the car. She curled her hair in a ponytail and glared around with uneasiness on her face.
"Welcome to my home, sweety?" I could hear Zayn say to her. He was looking radiant. Not sad at all. His expression could be explained as someone who had just won a million-dollar lottery.
Majestically, they started walking towards us at the outdoor lounge.
I sighed in grief and didn't know when I fell back on the chair I was sitting in. I was utterly embarrassed.
My friend Daisy noticed my emotions, and she gently stroked my shoulder. "Don't worry, Zora. She might just be his business partner," she whispered to me.
Before I could turn and stare at them for the second time, the lady had clutched her hand with Zayn, and she had a confident smile.
As they approached us, Zayn breathed a happy sigh and greeted Mr. Blake, his friend, throwing his face completely off me as if I wasn't there.
He then cleared his throat and said, "Y'all meet my bride and fiancée, Paige McCarthy."
Please do well to vote your gems and drop me a five star rating. It means a lot to me 🤲
ZORAW-What do you mean by that statement, Zayn? Tell me it's a prank," I stuttered, completely stunned as my husband introduced the lady to us.The audacity stabbed deeply into my chest. How could he be so bold to say that to us?"Don't act surprised, Zora. It's nothing new, is it? You already knew there's no love in our union, but you overlooked it, forcing things that are not meant to be," Zayn remarked, worsening the pain I'm feeling."No, Zayn. There is love. I have loved you and will always do. What is it that I'm not doing right, Zayn?" I stuttered, my voice weak."Yes, I know, Zora. But haven't you asked yourself if it's the same for me too? Come on, it has been a one-sided love. You should be grateful because I made it open to you that I'm no longer interested instead of keeping you in the marriage to torment you," he said, his voice bold and exuding authority. My throat felt so dry upon hearing that. Even Blake and Daisy, my friend, were shocked to their marrow as well. The t
ZORA"What are you doing, Zora?" Daisy asked me as she approached. Her face was laced with disappointment."At least accept the offer. You can't just spend three years with him only to leave with nothing. Please rethink. Go back and collect those documents," she urged me."I really understand you, Daisy, but I'm not interested in the offer. I loved Zayn with my whole heart and not because of his status. Please just let me have my way to my room so I could get my things and leave."Hearing this, Daisy couldn't help but coldly walk out of the way for me."I really appreciate your kindness towards me, but I'm not really interested in any of his offers," I told her and proceeded to my room while she sluggishly left.A few minutes later, I was done packing my luggage, and I stormed out of the room, heading downstairs to leave the house.Upon walking down, Daisy and her husband weren't there anymore. Zayn and Paige were the only ones who remained, as they were busy playing lovebirds and disc
It's been three weeks since I moved into Daisy's home, and I must say they are the best humans I've met on this earth. They made me forget about my marriage crash and showered me with love and care.I felt valued and happy, more than when I was with Zayn. However, since I had no job, I always felt like a burden to them, even though Daisy would tell me not to worry about it.At one point, her husband promised to secure me a job in one of his companies, which would take some months, if not a year, after they had made some rearrangements. However, I decided to start a part-time job at one of the top restaurants in the city while waiting for the opportunity.Today started off hectic for me due to my pregnancy issue. I wasn't feeling well, but I decided to manage and go to work since I hadn't requested leave yesterday. My senior colleagues and boss might think I intentionally chose not to come to work.As I walked in and went to the dressing room to put on my uniform, a colleague knocked on
Five Years Later"Mommy, are you not going to work today?" I could hear my daughter ask while I was sleeping.I slowly opened my eyes, and there she was, trying to put on her school clothes. A smile forced its way across my lips as I saw the effort she was putting into dressing herself but couldn't.I glanced at the clock and panicked in shock, "Oh my goodness." I never knew it was already 7:30 a.m."I instantly jumped out of bed and took her to the restroom for a shower. I had worked so stressfully yesterday that I couldn't wake up early today, as usual, to prepare for work and drive my kid to school.A few minutes later, I finished bathing her and dressed her quickly before we headed to the garage to go to her school."Mommy, remember you promised to take me to the amusement park today after school? Are you still going to fulfill it?" She asked while I was driving."Of course,
Just then, a knock came on the door."Yes, who's there?" he asked, but no one responded. This infuriated Mr. Jason, and he sighed in annoyance, then turned and focused on me."I'm sorry, I guess I have started hallucinating."I chuckled in amusement. "Not at all, sir. I also heard the knock. Let's assume it's caused by the breeze. You know your office is the last on this floor," I replied, and he responded with a smile."So, like I was saying, you'll tell me the secret of this sudden beauty of yours. You're becoming more beautiful daily," he went on, causing me to blush."If you say so, sir. By the way, I applied some facial blush; maybe that's what's confusing you.""I'm old enough to differentiate lush beauty and natural beauty," he insisted, staring at me with admiration.I couldn't help but fix my gaze on the desk, as I was too shy to glare at him anymore."In honesty, your beauty is one of the key factors I don't miss work anymore."I couldn't help but start twitching my fingers i
On our way to Southampton City, I was chatting with Daisy, my friend, because Jason was the one driving.Daisy: "Are you really going to Southampton City?"Zora: "Yes, dear, I'm going for a quick lunch with some investors. There's nothing to be worried about. It's just business."Daisy: "Sigh. What if you meet an unwanted guest at the meeting?"I couldn't help but chuckle, and Jason noticed."What's amusing you this time?" His eyes locked on mine as he asked."It's my friend, actually. She said something funny," I replied, my smile broadening."I see," he chipped in and concentrated on the wheel while I replied to Daisy's question.Zora: "That's unlikely to happen, but even if it does, it doesn't affect me anymore as I have moved on."Daisy: "You're right. Riffraffs don't deserve your feelings anymore, as responsible men are queuing to be with you."I chuckled again unknowingly, noticing what she meant. Daisy is always naughty and mostly talks about Jason's likeness towards me and als
My throat suddenly felt dry at his request. I was still uncomfortable being here today, and he's talking about bringing me here for the second time for a dinner."Erm, that would be great," I said, masking my emotions. "But honestly, you already know how busy I am lately, and I use weekends for my home chores and spending time with my girl.""Oh, alright. It's not a problem at all," Jason replied, smiling as if nothing had happened. To be honest, this is one of the reasons I like him; he never tries to force things on me or persuade me to accept his requests. He would just say it's fine and pretend as if nothing happened.Unless it's business-related, he would then look for a proper time to make the request for the second time, which I would hardly decline."So what would you like to drink while we wait for the Zech Holdings representatives?" he aske
"It's a pleasure to meet you, sir," the first man remarked, stretching out his hand in request of a handshake with Jason, and he accepted."You're welcome, sir," Jason replied with a smile on his lips as they exchanged handshakes, and he turned to greet others, only to see me approaching."Oh, there she is, Zora Paulson. The mastermind behind our revolutionary project," he said proudly with excitement and a smile all over his face.I couldn't help but force out a smile to greet the men as they turned to see me. However, my smile froze for some seconds as I and Zayn locked eyes. He's the one opposite Jason, and he's facing me."Zora! Finally, I found you," he said with excitement. The happiness was evident on his face, just like someone who had found a hidden treasure. My legs trembled, and I nearly lost my balance. I never expected this to happen. To see Zayn again in the same room where he humiliated me together with his wife Paige."What is he doing here?" I found myself questioning
ZORA—It was about six o'clock in the evening when Zayn and I met at a grand five-star hotel in Southampton City.During the afternoon, we discussed, and he pleaded for me to come alone with a promise not to initiate sex.I had told him about my plan of coming with Daisy because I've been troubled about sleeping with him when we're not yet legally together."You look elegantly beautiful, dear. This dress fits perfectly on you," he commented as he welcomed me to the hotel."Really? Thank you. I wore it to look good for you," I replied, smiling as we walked inside the building while holding hands like couples.Zayn went to the receptionist and collected a room key. Not going to lie, this instilled fear in me.The restaurant is somewhat a combination of a hotel and a restaurant because it has some potential rooms for booking and other necessities required in a hotel.I wanted to question the need for the key, but I maintained my composure, deciding to refuse or raise an alarm when he too
ZORA —"Zora, I don't like your sudden decision to go back to Zayn, but..." Daisy exhaled a sigh and continued, "Who am I to question your decision?" she added with a solemn expression. It happened that she was on furlough today, so I asked her to accompany me shopping. I wanted to buy some new dresses for the dinner tonight—I wanted to look unique and different to Zayn and not wear one of the outfits he's used to."No worries, Daisy, I'm being careful with him. After all, we haven't officially reunited because the divorce documents have to be disqualified," I replied, patting her shoulder with a chuckle."It's fine. I'm only looking out for your best interest," she shrugged off, sighing."Yes, dear. So tell me about the latest update. Are you going to proceed with the artificial insemination procedure we discussed?" I asked her, wanting to change the topic. She had told me earlier about the recent issues she had been having with her husband regarding their childlessness, which I sugg
ZORA —"Can you please attend the meeting Lisa told you about? We need to have a brief meeting with the directors," I requested, my eyelids raised as I expected his response."Well, that's actually the main reason I called you. Unfortunately, I can't attend the meeting because it's a waste of time for me and the directors," he said. However, he wasn't harsh to me. I thought he would scold me and asked me not to set foot in his company, but he didn't. Instead, he was cold with his responses."How? By the time you arrive, everyone would be done with what they're doing," I blurted out, trying to convince him to show up, but he was not ready to relent from his decision."No, Zora. I've already made up my mind, and that's it. I hope you respect that.""Um, how about Daisy? Won't you like to see her? Are you also mad at her?" I asked immediately before he could end the call. There was a moment of silence from Jason's end. Deep down, he doesn't want to have anything to do with me anymore, bu
ZORA—"Ah! Jason? He didn't tell you? He has stopped working here," said Lisa with a creased forehead, making me stare at her moronically because it hit me hard. Is she trying to pull my leg or what? If Jason doesn't work here anymore, where could he be working? I hope he's not considering suicidal thoughts."But he's the owner of this place? Did he officially announce his resignation, or did you conclude it after not seeing him for long?" I asked her, tucking my hair behind my ear as I concentrated on her reply. Inside of me, I was already praying hard for it not to be what I'm thinking."I'm not saying based on assumption, Zora; I'm stating a fact. I even heard that he has got a buyer, and they're negotiating the price.""Buyer?" I asked with my jaw dropped. What is really going on? Could it be that Zayn went ahead with his plan of purchasing Tech Savvy Strategies, and Jason accepted? I shrugged off the thoughts because Jason, as far as I know, is not desperate for money to do that
ZORA—"Mommy, wake up; it's morning already," I heard my daughter's voice as she barged into my room, causing me to sigh exasperatedly because I hadn't wanted to wake up by this time.I rolled myself to face her and stared at her for a few seconds before sighing. "Honey, it's not yet school time, okay? By the way, your schoolteacher just called yesterday and informed me of the postponement of your school's resuming date.""Huh, why would they do that?" She said with a frown."Are you not happy that you have more days to enjoy?" I asked with a surprised look. I thought she'd like to spend more days at home playing video games."I hate it. I'm missing my friends, especially Sophia and Liam. I want to see them." She responded with a decisive tone, making me chuckle. I thought she was missing studies, but she was after her friends."No worries, you'll see them soon, okay?" I said, and she nodded in affirmation and turned to leave.I sighed and was about to continue sleeping when she stopp
DAISY —I had been worried since last night because of Blake's absence in the house. He had never acted this way before since we got married."Could it be that he got kidnapped on his way back, or did his car develop a technical issue, and he decided to park and spend the night at a hotel?" I asked myself, trying to figure out what might have gone wrong."At least he should have answered my calls if he's in a good state," I doubted, sighing in frustration, tears welling up in my eyes as I tried to stay strong."Gosh, God, don't let this befall me. I'm too young to be a widow. I don't even have a child," I cried, felt so emotional that the tears I had been controlling began streaming down my cheeks without my notice until a drop touched my lips.I quickly wiped my eyes and took my phone. I went online and searched for my husband to know the last time he was online.{Active five minutes ago}"Really? He was active a few minutes ago and didn't bother to call me back. Could it be that he
Blake —I felt completely weakened and confused. "Are you trying to blackmail me, Danielle?" I asked, trying so hard not to make my fretting obvious to her.She swallowed the lump that formed in her throat, tucked the few strands of hair cascading down her cheeks behind her back, and turned to me with a mean expression."I'm not here to debate, Mr. Blake. I've already fulfilled my mission, so you should do what's necessary; otherwise, your wife will find out...""No, no, no. It's fine. Let's settle it here, please," I said with tension, reaching into my wallet and taking out a few bundles of dollars. "I hope you'll leave me alone now. You have to delete those videos in my presence so everything will be sorted out," I said, expecting her to comply."Alright," she said, unlocking her phone and deleting the videos as I requested."Good. I hope you can now stay away from me and never disclose what happened here to my wife. I hope the money is enough for you," I said, my voice a mix of ser
Blake —My hand landed on something soft, and my subconscious guided them to form a gentle circle, as if cradling a delicate object. The sensation brought me a strange sense of satisfaction, and I pinched them. The softness made me wake up to see what it really was, and then I saw her—a lady lying close to me.“Ah…” I gasped in shock, taken aback as I noticed it was her breasts that I was touching all this while. Apparently, she was naked because she only covered her body with the duvet, but some parts of her cleavage were showing.I was startled upon realizing that I was in a hotel room with a naked lady.I slowly raised the duvet to observe myself, to confirm if my instincts were right, but unfortunately, it is what it is—I was naked as well."What is going on here? How did I get here?" I asked, shaking her and waking her up from sleep.I could only remember going to the bar to drink in order to forget my problems, especially the issue of childlessness in my marriage, but finding my
ZAYN—"Babe, what about your friend Daisy? I haven't seen you talking to her or mentioning her lately. Are you still in touch with her?" He asked, running his fingers through my hair as I rested my head on his chest, feeling the softness of his beard. We both were lying on the bed, taking advantage of that prime time of the early hours of the morning. Unlike usual, we didn't have sex today because we had enough last night—in fact, almost throughout yesterday was sex that we accomplished."Of course I do. But you stole my attention throughout this period that I couldn't even think of calling her," she replied, sighing and giving me an unserious deadpan look.I chuckled and responded, "As it should be. I deserve all the attention.""While I don't deserve yours, right?" She asked with a tone of jealousy, leaving me curious. Hadn't I been giving her my attention since our reunion?"What is that supposed to mean? Had I not been here with you throughout this week, I didn't even visited my o
