Mia felt jittery as she waited in her room for the full moon to come out. Today was the D day, the day she would finally mate the love of her life, Justin.

She hadn't believed her ears when Justin confessed his love for her a week ago and proposed that they mate. It was everything she had dreamt of after she saw Justin up close for the first time.

He was the son of the Alpha of Moonglow pack, a neighbor to Shadow pack, the pack Mia and her father belonged to. Her father was the Beta of the pack and leader of the Alpha's war troupe.

Justin had come for a pack visit when he caught Mia’s eye, and she caught his as well, which led to their love story. And today, under the full moon, she would officially become his mate in the eyes of the moon goddess and the werewolf council.

"Mia, it's almost time. Are you ready?" Her friend Clara asked as she opened the door to her room.

Mia ran a nervous hand down the silver shimmery shift-like gown she was wearing, took a deep breath, and gave Clara a small nod.

Yes, she was ready. This was her heart's desire.

Mia walked out of her room with Clara and they headed to the meeting center, at the center of the pack land. Every mating ceremony happened at the meeting center with the full moon with selected werewolf council members present to bear witness.

She got to the center, expecting to find Justin there, but he wasn't, which was strange.

The groom was supposed to be at the center first, waiting expectantly for the bride to come and join him. So, why was Justin not there waiting for her yet? Or was she too early? Mia gave her friend a confused look.

Everyone was already looking at her strangely as she stood silently in the meeting center waiting for Justin, so the elders could start their joining. Her friend, Clara had gone to join the other members of their pack that were present for the ceremony.

A few moments later, Justin hurried into the meeting center, his hair tousled roughly like he had run his hand through it several times.

He wasn't dressed in the traditional attire of white trousers and bare chest, still wearing the Jean and flannel shirt she had seen him in when they saw each other this afternoon and stole a few kisses and touches.

"I'm sorry I'm late" He apologized profusely as he stood next to her, his expression tense.

Frowning a little, Mia leaned towards him.

"What's wrong, Justin? You don't look so good"

"Eh, nothing- nothing is wrong Mia, just ceremony jitters, you know" he rasped, laughing roughly a bit, then cleared his throat.

An elder from Mia’s pack stood up and walked up to them to start the ceremony.

All the observers from their packs quieted down as the old man started chanting softly, beginning the mating ceremony, while Justin kept fidgeting as he stood next to Mia, causing her to cast occasional concerned looks at him.

"Stop! Stop please, I- I can't do this" Justin suddenly shouted, raising a hand above his head.

"What are you doing Justin?!" Mia snapped, her voice low, as people began to murmur softly about the abrupt stop of the ceremony.

"I'm sorry Mia, but I can't mate with you, I just can't"

"Why? Why can't you? You didn't have any issues before, so why now?"

Putting a hand on his forehead, she asked, "Are you not feeling good? Are you nervous? If that's why, it's completely natural, that's what I was told. I'm nervous too, but I love you, and that's why I'm doing this"

"It's not nervousness, and I'm perfectly okay. I just can't mate with you again, I can't. I thought I could do it before, but now? Now I just can't. I was prepared to overlook the fact that you can not shift, but I can't overlook this"

"You can't overlook what?" Mia asked as a sudden cold went through her.

"The fact that you are cursed! You are cursed, Mia!" He shouted in answer, as everyone went quiet. The people present listened intently. They had come to observe and celebrate her joy and happiness, but it looked like they would bear witness to her shame and embarrassment instead.

"You are eighteen now, and you haven't shifted to your wolf form yet. Although it never happened before, I was willing to look past it, that maybe you needed time. But now I found out it's a curse?"

"Justin, please listen to me-" Mia started.

"Listen to what? I am to be the Alpha of my pack! I can't afford to marry someone who is cursed. Mating you with how weak you are without your wolf would be embarrassment enough, but coupled with this? It would be humiliating! Goddess knows if you won't give me cursed pups too" He snapped, causing Mia to draw in a sharp breath.

She couldn't believe what was pouring out of Justin's mouth.

It was true some people believed she was cursed because she didn't change into her wolf form when other werewolves did at age sixteen. And aside that, some believed her birth had killed her mother, because of the manner in which her mother had died.

Her mother had been found frozen and black all over, like someone struck by lightning, with a premature-born Mia next to her in the woods, behind her father's house.

If it wasn't for some kind pack healers who had picked her up from where she lay on the ground, Mia would have joined her mother too in the great beyond.

"This mating can't happen, I'm sorry." Turning to the members representing the werewolf council, Justin bowed halfway in apologies and stormed off, members of his pack who had followed him to bear witness to the ceremony following closely behind him.

Mia stood at the center of the pack meeting point, still reeling in shock, her mind trying to catch up with what just happened.

The werewolf council representatives silently stood up, shaking their heads softly, and giving her side glances as they left.

Other members of her pack, started taking their leave too, in twos and threes, throwing her glances of pity and some glee, as they murmured amongst themselves.

"Mia? Mia?" Mia felt someone shake her softly.

She raised her head to see her friend, Clara looking at her with pity. Something she almost recognized flashed in her gaze, before it settled on pity again.

"Come, let's go. It's becoming cold and you've been standing here alone for the past few minutes. Let's get you inside" She prodded, taking Mia's arm to lead her back to her room in her father's house.

Mia sat on her bed, staring at the wall blankly, as tears trickled down her cheeks.

She felt like wailing and shouting, but just couldn't open her mouth, still shocked by how the night had ended.

Clara put her arm around her in comfort, but Mia hardly noticed it, her mind still reeling.

"I know you are shocked Mia, but I would say good riddance to that idiot, he never did deserve you. You can always get another mate, it's not like he is your true mate, and you know how rare those are."

Clara stated consolingly.

"You are beautiful Mia, you can easily get another mate who will love you for who you are, curse or no curse, so it's okay. You don't need to cry so much" She added at Mia’s silence, pulling a napkin from her pocket to dab at her wet eyes.

Mia didn't give her an answer as the tears kept pouring.

Tilting her head out of sight, Clara gave a small vicious sm

ile of victory, which she wiped clean, replacing it with pity as she continued to console Mia.

  • MIA: A WEREWOLF'S CURSE    MORNING SICKNESS AND A MEETING WITH THE ALPHA

Mia hurried out of bed, rushing to the toilet as her stomach spasmed again, forcing the potatoes and steak she had forced herself to eat last night out her throat. After throwing up, she washed her face with cold water from the tap and walked back to her room, throwing herself on the only chair in her room; a high-back chair. Gods! She was miserable. The past few days had been miserable for her with her bouts of throwing up. She wondered where she had caught the bug.Mia placed her head on her cold metal table, taking a deep breath. She was almost out of options now. There was nowhere else she knew to go. No one else to help her with a solution. The last shaman she had met, here in the Nyx pack, had told her the same thing the previous ones in all the other packs she had traveled had said- that the only person who knew the solution to her curse was her mother. Her mother, who was already dead. She would have asked her father if he knew something, but he wasn't in the frame of mi

Mia walked up to the Manor gate, watching it as it opened to let her in. Uhm. Someone must have been watching out for her to arrive. It had been easy to find the Manor, as everyone she had met for directions had given her precise ones, that led directly here. Going through the gates, Mia let out a gasp at her first real glimpse of the Manor. It was so majestic, it almost took her breath away. It was like a gray castle with its high turrets, and numerous windows. Before she could sink more into its beauty, a shadow suddenly appeared next to her. Startled, Mia looked up to see a tall black man with closed-shaven hair. "Hi, I'm Justice. The Alpha told me to escort you to the meeting room" Then he moved forward, his long strides eating up the ground, forcing her to jog to catch up. They went through the main entrance of the castle, going through a few turns till he stopped them in front of a wooden door. "Go in. The Alpha is waiting," He stated, opening the door to let her in, b

Mia's head was reeling in confusion. "You can't do this to me Aaron." She said, Her eyes darted to Justice who was ready to do as his Alpha had instructed. He was tall and had brown hair and brown eyes. He wasn't bad looking either but he also had that rugged build that his Alpha had.She walked closer to Aaron but not too close, "Please you have to think this through. What if they find out?" She whispered to him.He scoffed, "and who will find out? If they do, what exactly are they finding out? That I no longer want to mate Miram and want to take a different mate or that the mate I'll be taking in is very beautiful and irresistible?" He purposely left out the part where she was his step sister."Aaron, you have to stop this. How am I supposed to find a cure to my curse if you'll have me locked in this place." She said and gestured to the palace."I can't take my chances and have you leave..." He leaned into her ear, "Little sister." He completed and stood back properly. She was

Aaron knew for a fact that what he was doing was potentially dangerous to everyone involved. Both him and Mia could be greatly affected by this. He couldn't understand why his wolf responded so quickly to her. It reacted to things as insignificant as her scent. She was cursed and could not transform to her wolf form. It was the rumor that preceded her the moment that she set foot in his territory. That night when he had seen her in that inn, she was at the bar and she was just sitting there, drinking from her cup, his wolf had reacted to her. He tried to control it but it was very hard and almost impossible. Finally, he approached her.He was wearing a cloak that night so that he wouldn't be recognized by any werewolf within his territory. There were only a few who knew it was him and they were the ones he had met with in that same inn."You're wasted." He said."Why do you care?" She asked"I don't actually." Aaron replied coldly. She scoffed and took another huge gulp from her cup

Mia's face didn't look too pleasant. "They are all stuck up jerks in this palace." She thought to herself as she stood at the balcony of her room. The moon was shining high in the sky and beautifully lightened up the sky but Mia was feeling the exact opposite of beautiful. Everyone seemed to have a problem with her presence and she didn't like that she had to put up with it. She had stayed indoors almost all day because she didn't want to have to face anyone in the palace."I shouldn't be so scared of them, it's not like they can harm me now, can they?" She spoke to herself while pacing around the room. She was wearing a white silk flowing gown. It was very beautiful and the dresses were all that she liked about the palace.I should step out for a while. She went to the door and opened it slightly. She peeled through the open and was startled to see Justice standing guard just beside her room. She shut it immediately and placed her hand over her racing heart. Then she opened it agai

Mia has faced a lot of cruelty growing up so she should get used to being treated poorly and being disrespected or embarrassed. Even if someone didn't embarrass her, she always ended up embarrassing herself. However, this particular act by Miram has Mia feeling so shocked and annoyed. The fact that she is weak and cannot match Miram's strength since Miram is a full blooded werewolf and even had the blood of an Alpha running through her veins, only made Mia feel even more miserable and annoyed.Mia looked down like she was told to by Miram. She was doing her possible best to avoid any trouble until she was able to find a way out of the palace. But deep in her heart even as she acted gullible and naive, she hated Miram deeply because of this one act.Miram closed her eyes and took in a deep breath, then she opened her eyes and scoffed mockingly, "Aaron's guest? You must be kidding me. Not while I'm here in this palace. Even Aaron answers only to me and I will not stand for this." Miram

Mia was reduced to nothing because of what Miram had done. The maids had no regard for her anymore. She didn't feel very different from when she was still staying within her pack."It's time to have your bath." A maid came over to her room and said,She didn't even register when the maid came by. Mia was startled. "Oh!" She exclaimed softly. She looked at what the maid was carrying in her arms. "Is there an occasion?" She asked."Yes there is. The Alpha requests that you be present at the dining room in a few minutes and he said that we must make sure that you look presentable." The maid answered."Presentable?" Mia looked down at herself."When have I not been?" She thought."I won't be wearing those." Mia said adamantly."But you have to." The maid insisted."I do not want to. You can't force me to. I will just wear plain clothes instead. There won't be any need to wear too many fancy things." Mia responded.Mia eyed the dress in the maid's hands. There were shiny silver jewelries

"Dear Alpha, you shouldn't have done what you did to Miram. What if she goes to tell her father?" The old adviser asked."Miram is for me to handle and for your information, I am the alpha now. Her father has been disposed as one so, stop telling me about her father like I should be afraid of him. If anything, they should both be afraid of me." Aaron said calmly. He was not perturbed by Miram's outburst. It somehow scared Mia. They haven't lived together for a very long time and it seemed to her like he's very changed now and that the Aaron she knew while she was still a little cub, has disappeared. He turned to Mia, "now, what do you have to say?"Mia's swallowed hard, "i am saying that instead of raiding them, we can simply try to work with them. We can call them in a meeting and set up an agreement.""What sort of agreement?" Aaron was very intrigued by what she had to say."I don't know. You should maybe try to have some kind of leverage against them." Mia said.Aaron sighed, "I g

It felt tight as well and it felt as though floods of vomit were making their way from her throat to her mouth. She sat up abruptly and bent her head over what seemed to be a high bed frame as she wretched her bowels out. Floods of yellow poured from her mouth in the most disgusting manner, falling into whatever was placed underneath her mouth or perhaps it fell on the ground. But the splashing sound it made as all those horrible contents forced down her throat by Miriam hit the ground was a splurt sound, meaning that there were more of those horrible contents and she was probably releasing all that content into a bucket. She felt hands rub her back as she wretched further, her

Beads of sweat had broken under his hair but he still stood still and continued to look calm and unfazed but feel down, a storm had taken its place within himShe groaned as she placed her hand over a seat that was placed in front of Aaron's table. His brows furrowed as he watched her with keen eyes like that of a predator keeping an eye on a prey. The Alchemist had told him she would have some strength to talk but die a few days and it had only been a few hours. Was he wrong about what he prescribed or perhaps it was going to kill her faster than they both expected? Doraine could die but certainly not in front of Aaron. That would only raise his suspicions. What was making the interrogation take so long for goddess' sake? He was growing impatient and time was running out."Yes, Alpha Aaron, I am sure. I had seen her use the tunnels as she tried to flee—" she paused and her breathing quicke

"What happened to her?" Aaron asked Justice, his voice was dangerously low, Justice had to thread carefully."Apparently, she's very sick at the moment to the point where she can't speak." He replied, his head bowed down in reverence. Aaron slammed his fist on the table in anger."That's not my problem. If you have to force the words from her lips then you'd better do just that." His eyes were red with fury and his mind was far from reasoning. All he wanted was for Justice to bring back Mia. Justice bowed his head in reverence, "I'll make sure to bring back good news about Mia's whereabouts." "I can feel it. She's alive and she's not very far away. Do all you can to bring her back." He ordered.Justice nodded in response and walked out of Aaron's study and headed for the infirmary where he had kept her so that she could recover. As soon as he opened the door, his eyes locked on Miram's. Justice was worried that Miram's rage was going to ruin everything they had both worked hard to build separately and in whatever ways they had worked to build it.Miram on the other hand was not going to back down. She had made up her mind and there was no going back from it.She looked at him squarely with unflinching intensity, her eyes wide and filled with rage and a determination that didn't want to be quenched by words of any sort. It felt as though her skull had cracked open. She felt as blood trickled down the side of her face and her vision was blurred. Mia was pacing back and forth in her room unable to erase that horrid scene of Miram throwing a tantrum from her mind. The horror of it all was beginning to sink in her mind at that very moment. What was Aaron possibly thinking when he decided to tell Miram to her face that he was going to make her his Luna? Even when he knew fully well that Miram would never allow it. Hell! She must be coming up with loads of ways to get rid of her. Mia's mind was a mess. She walked over to her bed and lowered herself into it but it suddenly felt like the lining was much too hard on her butt. She shifted her weight countlessly but with each movement, it only made her more uncomfortable.Would it be better to just try to leave the palace? There was no harm in trying.Yes! That was exactly what she was going to do. She wasn't going to sit around and allow all this chaos to crash in on her.
