Chapter 1

Melissa what are you doing in there, I heard the princess Luciana calling out to me and I immediately swam out of the room.

"Am sorry my princess I'm just arranging the room" I said to her and she rolled her eyes sitting down and ordering me to fix her hair.

My name is Melissa and I'm a blued tail mermaid slave. I work in the palace as the princess Luciana's maid.

I was taken in as a palace slave when my mother committed a crime. She fell in love with a human and got pregnant for the human an act which is a crime in Atlantica.

Going to the shores were prohibited and anyone found were punished severely but in my mother's case she was always going out to the shore to meet up with her human lover after she saved him from drowning they fell in love with each other and she sneaks out to the shore to meet with him.

During one of our escapades, she was caught by The palace guard and brought to the King he threw her into a dungeon and after few months they found that she was pregnant and her punishment worsened.

After giving birth to the baby which was me, they killed her. Yes they murdered my mother just because she fell in love how can they kill a woman because you chose to be with a human this is a terrible act of wickedness and I hate the king for that.

They handed me over to the palace chief maid when I grow up a bit, they took me in as a slave to continue from my mother's punishment ever since then I have been in bondage I don't get to explore like my fellow mermaids.

I am always in the palace serving the princess and taking all sorts of insult from her. Well that will be over soon in few weeks time because I will be turning 18 and freed, I plan on visiting the shore to explore and have a look at the human world.

The truth is after I heard my mother's story I wanted to visit the shore and see what humans look like. 

"What are you doing" Luciana yelled and I came back to my senses I'm sorry my princess I said and started fixing the pearls on her hair. Soon I was done fixing her hair and she ordered me to pick out the best glow polish to Polish her red tails.

I left and went into her luxury decorated room to pick out a glow red Polish and started polishing her tails to give it a glowing sparkle.

Luciana is a spoilt princess who takes everybody as trash and she has no regards to people she feels too full of herself because she gets whatever things she wants at a snap of her hands.

I envy her a little because ever since I was born I have been suffering haven't had a taste of motherhood no one to run to I've been depressed so many times and I've learnt to live with it.

Soon I was done polishing the princess tail and brought a mirror for her to admire herself.

She glanced at the Mirror and frowned "how dare you do this ugly style of hair for me do you want to die" she said and I shook my head.

very ungrateful mermaid I muttered and she stared at me frowning and I quickly apologized"I'm sorry my princess let me redo it" I said to her and her frown deepened.

"do you want me to miss my date with Luke because of your stupidity" she yelled throwing the Polish at me and I bowed my head waiting for her next word.

"I don't have time for you now go and bring me my jewelry box quickly, I will deal with you when I get back" she said and I scoffed secretly "what more can you all do to me that haven't been done ever since I was born, my body is already used to different type of punishment and I don't care anymore I said in my mind and left to get her jewelry box.

I open the luxurious box filled to the brim with various types of pearls and I was touching and admiring it when I heard Luciana's yell " what the hell are you still doing there, I quickly closed the box and swam fast to her and she quickly snatched the box from me and picked out the pearls she wanted and I wore it for her.

After Princess Luciana left for her date with her betrothed I swam to my secret resting place.

it is located at the back of the palace and I normally go there to rest and think and also get away from the queen whenever the princess went out.

I got there and sat down on a rock singing slowly and rolling my tail when an object dropped on my hair I picked it up and it was a human boy drawn on a leaf it doesn't look like the leaves in Atlantica.

I stare at the boy on the leaf and smiled he looks so cute and handsome,are humans this handsome well I will find out few weeks from now.

I'm going to keep this and when I'm finally freed, I'm going to go to the human world and look for the boy. I folded the leaf like object and tucked it in my hair.

I hope the princess isn't back yet because when she finds out I left the Palace I will be in deep trouble and I don't want anything that will make them to still keep me in hostage after my 18th birthday.

Swimming back to the palace I quickly peeped to check if any guard is looking my way and when there was no one there, I swam pass quickly and enter the palace through the backdoor.

"Where are you coming from" I heard and turned back to see the Queen glaring at me. "I'm dead" I muttered.
