The king

The next day, Jade woke up next to her husband in the second floor bedroom. They were both in the bed with red sheets. The girl avoided waking her husband, but she noticed that he was a little tired and smelled of some disinfectant liquids, and she also felt that his breathing was a little weak. As if he had been busy all night. She decided to let him sleep peacefully in that place. However, he heard screams through the streets of the city.

He got out of bed and looked out the nearest window of the room. He saw many people crowded outside the house. There were some fences that had recently been installed by Jhon's decision. They were made of iron and were almost two meters long. They had been put up for security. More people who were conglomerated in that place grabbed the bars and almost shouted trying to get in.

At that moment, one of the employees knocked on the door of the room.

"Knock, knock."

Jade got out of bed and went to open the door.

One of the older maids was bringing breakfast on a tray. She had short hair and had quite a bit of gray that made it look white, plus she had some wrinkles. She was dressed in a black dress and a white apron. The Lycan girl didn't hesitate to ask her what had happened.

"What happened yesterday?" asked Jade.

"There were a lot of wounded in the night, the doctor finished a little while ago and went up to the room. It was so much work that he had to find volunteers for this occasion. They sent for doctors from other towns. They say that some wolves attacked the people. The king is in a meeting right now."

Jade was not very pleased to hear that, she was a Lycan and would be harmed by this situation. Very few knew her secret, but that didn't exempt her from also being blamed for what was going on.

"Thank you for the information" she said to that woman.

"My pleasure" replied the maid.

She grabbed the tray with the food and closed the door, she went back to bed, but she heard gunshots near the house and screams of frightened people.

The city turned to chaos at that moment. Jade preferred not to wake her husband. She decided to be with him while everything was happening, because she wanted him to rest her, he almost woke up a few times, but with light caresses on his face she managed to make him go back to sleep.

[...]

In the afternoon hours, the situation had calmed down. The people who were crowded at the entrance had already left, but a royal guard who had a metallic armor of different parts up to the head, and a red cape, took off his helmet to talk to the people of that place.

He arrived at Dr. John's house, and knocked on the door several times. Until one of the maids opened the door and did not hesitate to let him in out of respect. She was the youngest of them all, she was a few years older than Jade, had long blonde hair and blue eyes, her face was somewhat elongated and had a cold look. She had the usual dress of the female employees of that house.

"Is the doctor in?" asked the royal guard.

"Yes, but he is very tired. He worked until dawn. His wife is taking care of him while he wakes up."

The guard didn't care and went up the stairs to the house.

"You can't come in, those are orders from the lady of this house!"

No matter how much the woman warned that man. He went on to the second floor and, without knocking, opened the door.

There was the doctor just up, sitting on the bed. Apparently the screams of his employee woke him up. Jade was on her knees, trying to explain to him what happened a short while ago. His eyes were a little red from the abrupt way he woke up.

"I'm sorry, sir! I thought something had happened to you" Said the guard.

"Why are you doing this? You should be more prudent, you can't open the door to a couple's room, I don't know I overstepped with your duties."

The guard tilted his face down and apologized.

"I'm sorry. They say his wife is also a wolf, I thought she had done something to him. Dozens of things happened yesterday."

Jhon was annoyed to hear that and didn't hesitate to reproach him.

"What thing do you say, where did that comment come from?"

"One of your employees said that your wife was a Lycan, so she must be watched."

The doctor's face evidenced disappointment at hearing that, and he only said a few words.

"All right, please stand down, we'll be there in a few minutes."

The guard was very embarrassed, he couldn't even look him in the face, but his hasty way of acting was because of the chaos that was experienced that day. The names of the wolves and possible Lycans were out in the open. That aroused anxiety among the population.

The man went downstairs alone, looking around the house as if he had done nothing. The maid was a little angry, but the scolding and the face of her boss was enough to leave her alone; however, the doctor was a little worried about his beloved. He didn't want anyone to disrespect her for being a Lycan.

She was dressing him at the time and had food on a table for him to eat something, he couldn't let out a few words.

"Well, it's all right now. You just need to eat something to make you better."

"Are you okay, Jade?"

"Yes, don't worry. It's normal for them to be afraid of me."

"If someone offends you, just tell me, I will do my best to see that they are punished."

He hugged her as he always did, but this time with tears in his eyes and his breathing was a little slower. He was afraid of losing her in that kind of confusions.

She took him by the hands and kissed him.

"Easy, I know how to defend myself, the one I'm worried about is you. You're so delicate, and sometimes I'm afraid you'll get sick, let's go, the king is waiting for us."

[...]

After a while, the couple went to the castle on the other side of the city. For security reasons, they boarded a carriage escorted by some castle guards.

Jhon was the most uncomfortable with the situation. He tried to pretend that everything was fine and avoided showing the anxiety that this environment caused him. He knew that something similar to a witch hunt that happened a few years ago could happen, he couldn't bear the thought of Jade being killed because of this situation. He remained silent as the chariot moved forward, but he saw some damage in different parts of the city. Statues and streets had stains from the blood and some were in bad shape. As if a confrontation had occurred.

Jade moved the curtains and tried to ignore what was happening, but some people started shouting and throwing stones at the chariot. The guards prevented another incident like the one a few hours ago.

A hush fell over the float. Neither of them said a word after what they witnessed. It was surprising for both of them. An unwanted situation that neither of them wanted to talk about. Until they arrived at the castle.

There Jhon got out of the carriage, a little nervous and took Jade's hands. She took him by both hands and calmed him down.

"Everything is fine, I don't think they can do anything to me, I didn't go out all night. Just calm down."

"It's okay" He replied.

He took a deep breath and held his wife's hand as if nothing had happened; however, everyone was watching them, vendors, guards and people passing by.

Jade's security made Jhon's determination stronger as he hesitated to enter the castle. They both continued their way through the entrance that was made of stone, sand and some wild flowers that decorated it.

[...]

A group of people were gathered in the castle hall. There was the king, his advisors and the alpha of the pack who lived in a village near that city.

King Kyle was wearing a crown of gold and some diamonds, he wore a red cloak with a golden silhouette and some diamonds, he only wore a tunic underneath and some wooden sandals. She was quite young, not yet over 30 years old. He had blue eyes and frizzy black hair, his face was round and he had some beard.

Everyone looked at the couple that had arrived a few seconds ago and without hesitation the king spoke.

"So she is your wife Are you sure she didn't leave your house yesterday?

"Yes, many witnesses saw what happened, she fainted at the sight of an injured person."

The king, looked at him for quite some time, and hesitated to listen to him, but he was going to send to corroborate what he had heard recently to some guards, for now he had the obligation to prevent incidents like those of last night from happening again, so he gave a few words.

"Well, in the city it is believed that there are fifty wolves from this man's pack, and you, wife, I don't know of the existence of anyone else. So I will send guards to watch them all night, even if the moon does not rise."

The two people in charge of that mission were quite young people, not more than thirty years old, but they had swords and daggers to solve any situation.

"They are both trusted by me, if they see one of those dogs do anything they will kill them without exception. I can't let hundreds of people leave town because of a damn dog that won't control himself, that would affect taxes and my reputation as king."

Jhon didn't like the idea, he only thought about what to do Jade if he turned Lycan. He thought about killing the guard and fleeing the city with her, but the king gave them a warning.

"In the night, anyone who tries to leave will be captured and executed. If you know who it was that caused the incidents, yesterday, please speak up and maybe you will have some clemency."

No one spoke, everyone remained silent, no one else added more to the small conversation, perhaps out of respect for that man. In a matter of seconds, the meeting ended.

"You may leave, but everyone will be watched."

One by one, they all left the palace, but the alpha of the pack living in the city approached them.

"May I say a few words to you?"

"Uh.. Yes" Jhon said somewhat confused.

"If you want, we can help you, your wife should be in a pack environment. She is young and should...."

"I'm sorry, she's my wife, we can't be separated, if that's what you mean."

"She belongs in a pack, she should be around one for a while, living as humans is something moment. Must......"

"I'm sorry, Jade has bad memories of her pack, remember she is a Lycan, not everyone likes them, with your permission we must return to the house and welcome the two guardians."

The couple left that place, without imagining the problem that awaited them there, there were 6 hours left until nightfall, and the situation did not seem to change. Someone was watching them at that moment and was following them with some distance, he did not let anyone else see him and was just waiting for the opportunity to appear. That person followed the carriage to be able to talk to them.
