The yellow police tape cordoned off the crime scene, the exact area where my car had been parked. The flashing red and blue lights of two police cars outside my house added to the chaotic scene.

I was aware that the officers were simply doing their jobs, but I was uncomfortable with the attention this was drawing from my neighbors, who were now whispering and exchanging worried glances.

Broken glass sparkled on the ground from my shattered window, my eyes landed on two forensic experts in white suits carefully examining the surroundings for any traces of evidence.

I knew my mom was on her way, and the last thing I wanted was for her to find out about what had happened to me last night. She would freak out and It would only worsen her already fragile health.

And my young son was upstairs, too innocent to be burdened with the knowledge that his father had almost been killed, or to witness the gruesome blood.
