Kirsch's POV

[Taran?] I glanced at Willa and hesitated before I tried to mind link him cautiously. Willa jerked up her head and stared at me with anticipation all of a sudden.

Taran rejected it.

Willa collapsed on my shoulder again, even more upset. Seeing her feeling low physically hurt me. I sniffed the air carefully, though faint, the smell was real.

But why didn't Taran show up if he was nearby?

[Willa, you would be okay to stay here alone for a while, right? I can go fetch some cloth before I come for you.] I found an excuse, trying to act as normal as possible.

[Yeah, of course. You don't have to come and pick me up though, I'll get back later myself.] Willa sat straight, and the soft and warm touch of her body left me. I missed it, but I had to let her go.

[I WILL come back, wait for me.] I left after I got a mild nod from Willa before I cut the mindlink with her.
