Willow Baker POV
It was exactly as I had suspected. He was here to tell me that the marriage wasn't going to happen and kick me out while keeping Asa in his care.
My hands curled into fists in my lap underneath the table, and I bit the inside of my cheek. I made sure to keep my thoughts out of my expression so it wouldn't be obvious that I knew what he was planning to say. Even if I didn't like what was going to happen, I wanted to hear it coming straight from his mouth.
I silently cursed my powerlessness. Even after being given this second chance by the Moon Goddess, I still couldn't accomplish anything. It was a waste on her part, and I didn't know why she even bothered to give me this second chance, no matter how grateful I was.
"I currently have the papers in my office, but I wanted to go over the details with you before we go through with this plan," he said.
Caught off guard, all I could do w
Willow Baker POVThe two of us stared at each other in shock. I hadn't talked disrespectfully to him since I arrived there. If I had any ill thoughts, I had kept it shut in my mind. After all, I was reliant on his hospitality. Offending the one person who could decide what would happen to me and the people I care about was the dumbest thing I could do.'Yet you did it anyway.''I'm so screwed.'What was I supposed to do in this situation? Should I apologize? It had already been several minutes since I had shouted at him. I wasn't sure if it was too late for me to apologize now or if I should just wait for him to react. If I waited for him to react, though, he might get angry that I didn't apologize to him.His next words stopped my train of thought. "It seems that it really bothered you."Unsure how to react, I remained silent and waited for him to continue.
Maverick Peterson POV'That went well.'Instead of responding to Shadow, I combed through my hair with one hand as I headed for my father's office. I hoped my father would give me answers to what he was thinking at dinner so I could put Willow's concerns to rest. It would be problematic if she decided to take things into her own hands.'If she tries something like what she did at the border, it will make a huge mess.''I kind of want to see that happen, not going to lie. Seeing her act submissive is wrong.'I felt the same, though I didn't voice this to Shadow. Given everything that I had presumed happened to her, I had expected she would be less trusting and more aggressive, violent, and relentless. The former was still true, but for the latter, it was strangely absent. I had only seen her act out twice, with one of them occurring before she had realized who I
Willow Baker POVSeveral Days LaterI wasn't sure if it was my imagination, but it felt like Maverick was walking on eggshells around me. He didn't exactly act differently or say anything that would hint at that. It was just my gut instinct telling me something had changed after the disastrous dinner.'I'm pretty sure it's not just you.'It was reassuring to have at least one person think the same as me, even if it was just my wolf. I ignored how she barked in displeasure in the back of my mind as I listened to the Grand Duchess and Sheila argue over a certain detail. After I had revealed to Sheila what I had discussed with Maverick regarding the marriage, she immediately demanded to be part of the conversation. She hadn't liked how there wasn't going to be any wedding and wanted to know what Maverick was thinking. When I had looked to Rickey for help, he sided
Willow Baker POVEveryone stared at her, wondering if she was joking. She wasn't joking."Sheila, do you understand what you're suggesting?" asked Rickey."I already have a wife," Jason said. This time, everyone's attention turned to Jason. Realizing what he just said, he shut his mouth and wilted under the Grand Duchess's intense gaze."Jason, dear, what do you mean you have a wife?" she asked as she snapped her fan shut to reveal a stiff smile.Jason caved in right away and explained he had fallen in love with someone in the grand duchy. They had gotten married in secret and actually had a child on the way.'Wow. That sounds exactly like the story you're trying to spin.''This is definitely awkward.'I couldn't recall Jason being married in my previous life. The only person who had been married was Maverick, which was why he became the
Willow Baker POVMaverick stayed as everyone else left, leaving the three of us alone. Sheila and the Grand Duchess had offered to take Asa from us, but we declined. We were hesitant to do anything that would irritate Asa at the moment, as she was perfectly content in Maverick's arms."What is it that you want to talk about?" he asked.I carefully considered what I should ask first. "What does it mean now that your brother has a wife and child on the way?""If you're concerned that they might be a threat to Asa, I assure you that you have nothing to worry about," he said. "Asa was born first and has the right qualifications to be the heir. Nothing would change that even if Jason's child ended up being a son with demonic features. It would have been a different story if she hadn't been born with black hair and black eyes."That was something I expected, but it was good to hear him confirm it. Right
Willow Baker POVA Few Hours LaterI smiled stiffly at the woman in front of me. When I said it would be great to get to know her, I didn't mean I wanted to see her right away. I still hadn't mentally prepared myself to see her. This was the person Maverick ended up marrying, even if it was only to protect the family after all. While I hadn't seen or heard about what she looked like, she had to be beautiful to make Jason fall in love with her at first sight. She had to be an amazing person for him to decide to marry her without telling anyone, though I did wonder why they got married in secret.Seeing her up front, I would definitely say she was lovely. Long, flowing red hair framed her angelic face, and warm brown eyes shone with pure happiness. She didn't seem to notice my discomfort or the weird atmosphere surrounding us, and she smiled brightly at us."Hello, it's ni
Willow Baker POVI never thought about it like that. Marriage never seemed like a possibility for me. I always thought I would continue doing whatever my parents and the people around me wanted until the day I died.Romance and building a family were things I wouldn't have ever considered before Asa. Well, I still didn't care for falling in love, but raising Asa definitely ignited my desire to raise a family."So how did the two of you meet?" Diana suddenly asked. At her question, I stared at her in confusion. Since she married Jason and he had talked about us to her, she should know everything already. That was unless he didn't tell her everything.Everyone except the couple turned their gaze back to Jason, who coughed into his fist while acting innocent. Apparently, he hadn't and was leaving it to us to explain the details. I was annoyed, but I would have done the same. No one liked talking about
Maverick Peterson POVThe more I heard about Prerana, the more disgusted I felt. No wonder the people there were not mentally stable or criminals.'That's one way to put it.'The three people from Prerana were mulling over what they had just learned. Willow seemed to be the most effective, as she kept rocking Asa back and forth almost frantically. I was tempted to take Asa from her, but I was unsure how she would react.'What's going on in her head?'"What does that mean for us?" asked Rickey. He continued when he realized we didn't understand his question. "You implied that there's a bunch of packs here. Do we need to join one of them, and what is expected of us?"It was immediately clear what he was concerned Prerana only had one pack, there had been no procedure for changing packs. It couldn't even be called a pack at this point.A pack that covered the en
Hello everyone. I just want to thank all my readers, especially those who have been following until the end. It's been a long journey. In fact, I believe this book, from start to finish, took almost 7 months, which is a long time. Again, I'm grateful to have all of you. Now, onto what I intend to do next. I have several ideas, but currently I hope to start on Asa Peterson's story. It's going to be about Willow and Maverick's daughter, but with a twist.Instead of being a direct sequel to Luna's Revenge: Willow Baker's Marriage Request, it follows the first life after Willow dies and basically runs almost parallel with it. As such, there might be some spoilers, but it's not required to read both books. They're both standalones.I really hope to get this story off the ground. However, I do have other stories so we'll see how everything works out.Anyway, thank you all again for reaching the end with me. I hope that you all continue following me and have a great day.
Willow Baker POV A Year Later "Willow, are you ready?" Sheila asked as she, Maverick's mother, and Diana stepped into the room. As I stared at the woman in the mirror, I immediately said, "No." My arms shook as I said, "I really can't do this." "What's wrong?" she asked as she immediately rushed over to me. "I don't think I'm ready to get married," I said as I whirled around in my wedding dress. "Willow," Maverick's mother said as she took my hand. "You've already been part of the family for more than three years. We're only making sure you get the wedding you deserve." 'I can't believe I agreed to go along with this crazy idea. Why do we need to have a wedding when we're already husband and wife?' 'I don't have a clue either. You're the one who agreed to it when Maverick asked to marry you, and he even gave you a chance to back out.' I still had mixed feelings when I recalled that incident. It still boggled my mind that he had asked to marry me when we were already married, a
Willow Baker POV"Yes?" I squeaked.I mean, we were married, so I wasn't sure what he was talking about. However, instead of explaining himself, he smiled brightly at me. His smile blinded me and left me in a daze as he slipped the ring onto my finger.Feeling the metal on my finger, I quickly said, "Wait. What's going on?"His smile dropped as he said, "I proposed. Did you not want to marry me?""That's not what I meant," I said as I held both my hands up. "I mean, aren't we already married?""We are, but I want us to be properly married," he said as he stood up. "All we did was sign some papers and file them to formalize our marriage. I want us to have a wedding. It doesn't have to be big. It can just be us and our families or j
Willow Baker POVA Year LaterStaring up at the night sky, I smiled as I held Maverick's hand. I had used to be embarrassed about holding his hand, but now I found myself reaching out to him whenever I can."It's nice out," I said as we continued to walk through the garden. The only sounds were the sounds of the wind and whatever animals were out and about. Basking in the peaceful atmosphere, I still found it hard to believe a year had passed in the blink of an eye."It is," Maverick said with a smile, and he squeezed my hand."So, what is it you wanted to talk about?" I asked."What makes you think I brought you out here to have a talk?" he asked. "I could just want to spend
Willow Baker POVReaching out to the door, I opened it and was greeted by the sight of a gaunt Lesli. The putrid smell and poor condition nearly made me vomit as I covered my nose and mouth."Ah, Willow, you finally came. I was wondering when you would come," he said as he smiled at me. His smile fell when his eyes spotted Maverick right behind me. "Oh, you're here. I didn't ask for you.""I asked him to be here," I said as I held up my arm before Maverick could raise his voice.Lesli tilted his head to one side as he asked, "Why? Did you think I would do something to you?" When I didn't bother to give him a response, he raised his bandaged and chained arms up for us to see. "I can't exactly do anything to you right now.""I'm sure you'll find a way, but that's not
Willow Baker POVUnfortunately, the beautiful moment was ruined as a servant approached us. We stepped away from each other as Maverick frowned. They knew to leave us alone unless it was a serious matter."My apologies, your graces," the man said as he bowed. "The prisoner is acting up and demanding Willow's presence."There was only one person he could be referring to, but before I could say anything, Maverick said, "Willow will not be seeing him. I should have you punished for your insolence."The man quivered beneath Maverick's bloodlust. Asa squirmed at the sensation, but she didn't become upset like the last time she had been exposed to it. I wasn't sure whether I should be glad or upset.Reaching out to touch his shoulder, I said, "Maverick."
Willow Baker POVSeveral Days LaterLeaning back in my chair, I watched with a smile as Maverick played with Asa, who giggled loudly. For once, we were together not because someone had done something to make it happen, and I was quite happy about it.Maverick finally caught Asa, who laughed even harder when he raised her up into the air. She clapped her hands as they returned back to the table where I was sitting. Asa immediately reached out to me.Standing up, I took her from him, and we both settled down to enjoy the tea and snacks that had been left out. Asa tried to reach for the cookie I had, but I kept it out of arm's reach. She was far too young to be eating them.As I nibbled on the cookie while ignoring Asa's attempts to grab it out of
Willow Baker POVSeveral Hours Later'As you were saying.''I still say it isn't bad.'Of course, she would say that. She wasn't the one who had to endure all the stares as I sat next to Maverick. It was like being surrounded by a pack of hungry wolves, ready to pounce at any moment.Maverick scanned the room before standing. "Now that everyone is here, I believe there is something we need to seriously discuss." His face hardened as he said, "You all need to stop harassing us, especially Willow." Immediately, several people looked offended by his words, but he continued on, "This has gone on long enough.""Maverick, I believe you need to watch yo
Willow Baker POVA Few Weeks LaterAfter what had felt like centuries, I had finally kicked everyone out without being rude. I had thought that would be the end of it. Unfortunately, I had been wrong. I had been so very wrong. It seemed like a fire had been lit, causing the family to work even harder to ensure we were a proper couple. Well, at least the women were. The men had kept out of the whole exchange, and I wasn't sure how to feel about that.On one hand, it was better than having all of them gang up on me and Maverick. On the other hand, they weren't helping us and were choosing to stay on the sidelines. Rickey seemed to take particular glee at my suffering.'At least someone is enjoying themselves.'
