Becky’s POV

Well, I couldn’t complain, I had urged him to take the deal, so I had no right to be mad that he had listened. If anything, he should be mad at me for getting him into this mess.

“What I want to know is why did you lie to me? You could have told me the truth,” I asked.

“I didn’t want to upset you. Besides, like I said, it isn't real. I don’t even know how the person who put it on social media found us there. I tried everything to keep it quiet. I guess Celine must have invited them. Please don’t be mad.”

“I understand. I am not angry. After all you are in this mess because of me,” I said sadly.

“No. It has nothing to do with you. I would do anything for you. I love you.”

“I love you too.” I smiled.

“What else did Celine tell you?” He asked.

“How much you both love each other. And her dad is planning to get my dad’s company, and make me a cleaner.”

“She is lying. Whatever she said is a lie. There is no way they are getting the company.”

I know. I don’t believe her. But I d

Becky’s POVI swallowed nervously as the man who I suspected had trailed me some weeks ago stared right at me. Although he was trying not to show it, I knew he recognized me too.“Excuse me,” he muttered, and walked down the hallway.I watched him go, wondering who he was, and what he was doing here. Did he work for Sandra, or was he here because of me? Or is it Davis that he works for? I shook my head, knowing I was being ridiculous, but I couldn’t help it.I went into the large living room, and sat on the plush sofa, then started looking around. There were a few framed pictures on the wall, mostly of Sandra and her business partners.I went to take a closer look. One particularly held my interest. It was a class photo taken when Sandra was probably in high school. Looking at her reminded me of my class photo, and I smiled. There was a brown haired girl standing next to Sandra. She looked very familiar and I wondered why. Could I have met her at any time? I racked my brain trying to

Becky’s POVThe man I had seen earlier came up to us. Even though he doesn’t even glance at me, I felt myself grow pale. Sandra looked at me curiously, but said nothing.“Can I see you for a minute Ms. Martins?” He asked Sandra.“Sure. I’ll be right back, Becky.”She followed him into the house.I finished my dessert, more curious than ever to find out who this guy was. I didn’t like his looks, and felt I had to warn Sandra, in case he was a threat. My phone buzzed, and startled me so much that I let out a little yell. But I quickly gathered myself when I saw it was Phillip.“Sorry, I did not call you. I have been with Sandra all afternoon,” I apologized.“That is okay. Have you settled in? Are you enjoying the place?” He asked.

Becky’s POVI felt my heart fall into my stomach.Sandra noticed my change of expression and smiled.“Don’t be so worried,” she laughed. “What I mean is, you won’t be starting tomorrow like I had earlier intended. That was the head of marketing. I wanted her to create a place for my current PA so that she could step out, and her place would be yours. But she just called to tell me it won’t be possible till Wednesday. So you have to wait a day more. Is that okay?”I nodded, relieved. “Yes. Thank you. I was bothered that you didn’t want me working for you.”“Of course, I do. You have nothing to fear.”We continued talking and enjoyed each other’s company so much that we failed to notice the sun setting, and dusk creeping in until we were called for dinner. After we left the dining room, we sat in the parlor watching our favorite soap opera.“So how do you like your first day with Sandra Martin?” She asked when the show was over.“Perfect. I really enjoyed it.”“Tomorrow. when I get to w

Becky’s POV“Who must have taken it?” I said to myself, trying not to panic. “Could it be the housekeeper?” But I cannot accuse her without any evidence. I wondered how I managed to be so careless. Then I paused, and smiled at my stupidity. I put my hand in the pocket of my jeans, and pulled it out. I remembered I had put it there and forgotten in my excitement.I sighed, I needed to be more careful. Thank goodness, I hadn’t gone throwing accusations at anyone.I called an Uber and walked around the neighborhood while I waited. It was nice, quiet, and peaceful. Reminding me of the estate where the Dale’s lived.I remembered I had promised to call Jenny, so I dialed her number.“Hello?” She mumbled after the second ring, sounding like she was still asleep.“Hey! Are you still sleeping? It is morning already,” I yelled at her.“Reb? Stop yelling, I have a headache.”“Were you at a party last night?” I asked.“Yeah. A birthday party. I feel awful.”“Serves you right. I can bet you drank

What can I get you?”“Nothing, I am good. I just came to see how you were settling in.”“Great, Sandra is awesome.”He looked surprised. “Really? Well I am happy about that. I was afraid she would be hard to live with.”“No, she is nice.”“And Celine? I hope you have not had any trouble from her?”“So far no. But I am still cautious.”“And Phillip hasn’t told you about his big plan yet?” He asked curiously.“No, but whatever it is, I know he can handle it.”

Becky’s POV I managed to keep my balance, then I turned around in annoyance to see who the person was. “Oh, sorry about that,” the jerk who had been against me in the meeting said, smiling insincerely. “It was an accident. I hope you are not hurt?”“I am fine,” I mumbled, wondering what he was up to.“You are Ms. Martin's new PA, how do you like the job?”“Fine, thanks.”“I can see that. Since you are already bringing up ideas, you will soon become the CEO,” he said, slightly mockingly.“And may I know who you are?” I asked.“I was her PA before you came along, but I now work in another department. I am not sore though, I am sure you will do a great job.”His fake smile didn’t fool me. I knew he was angry because I had taken his job.We saw Sandra walking towards us.“I will see you around,” he said, and walked away.“First day on the job, and I have already made an enemy,” I sighed, then shrugged. It was not my fault that Sandra prefers me to work as her PA, and as long as I had Sa

Becky’s POV “Is this mine?” I asked, trying to contain my excitement.“Yes. Do you like it?” She asked, handing me the keys.I shook my head. “No. I love it!” I whispered. I walked to the shiny blue car parked in the driveway.I hadn’t expected this at all. Even when Sandra asked me about my license, I had no idea that she wanted to get me a car. I was already planning how I would be joining the bus.“Thank you. I love it, but why? Why are you being so nice to me?” I know I sounded ungrateful, but I couldn’t help asking. I needed to know the reason behind all this.“Because I want people around me to be happy,” she said softly. “Now get in, and see how you really like it.”I got into the car, inhaling the smell of brand new leather. I started the engine, and drove around the block, careful not to go too fast. The engine was perfect, and the car moved like a dream. This whole thing was indeed a dream come true. My very own car! Those guys couldn’t afford to even look at the building.”“Wendy? Seriously?”“Hey Becky, I had to say something to sound cool, and the lie has now gotten us an afternoon of shopping. Yes! Let’s get going,” she said, jumping up.“Not so fast. Sit down. Let us have a snack first. We are not in a hurry. Let me show you some hospitality,” I joked.I called for the housekeeper who brought us cake and soda.“Mmm!” Wendy said, biting into the cake. “This is living. Please let me move in with you.”“Mom would never allow it,” I reminded her.“I will run away from home. She will search for me for a day or two then give up.”“No, she won’t. Becky’s POVIt didn’t take long for the cop to find the key and get the chain off my leg. I felt a little dizzy when I tried to stand, but aside from that I was fine. The officer insisted on taking me to the hospital even though I told them I was okay. All I needed was a bath. Phillip rode with me in the ambulance while Celine and Frank were handcuffed and taken away. The doctors agreed I was okay except for the bruise on my ankle, I was told they would keep me for twenty-four hours then I could go home.“I will call Sandra, and the rest to let them know you are okay,” Phillip said as he kissed me.“Sure.”Finally, I was able to take a shower. I felt a lot better, but when I laid down, I couldn’t help being furious about the whole thing. How could Frank do such a thing? He said he loved me, was kidnapping me a funny way of showing it?Sandra and Jenny arrived so quickly I wondered if they had been in the area. They hugged me tightly, laughing and crying.“Thank God you are okay! Phillip’s POV“Frank! What the hell! Is this a joke?” Rebecca asked.I just stared at him, too lost to find my voice.“Does it look like a joke, Rebecca?” Frank sneered.“Frank, what are you doing?” I finally was able to mutter.“We are working together. Are you surprised?” Celine asked.“What? So Dom is working for you?” Rebecca asked in astonishment.“Sure. He has been my eye in the house from the day he was hired,” Frank smirked. “His job was to keep an eye on everyone there.”“Why?” I asked, stunned.“Are you asking, you idiot?” he laughed. “You really think I like you? You are dumber than I thought.”“We have been working together from the beginning. We knew each other before he introduced me to you, so it wasn’t so hard to come along,” Celine grinned.“So all the sabotage I have been having at the company, and the investors pulling out because of a false rumor, you were behind it?” I flared at Frank.“Yes. And I also told Jessica to dump you. I told her you were having an affair

Phillip’s POVIt was quite late when I got to the beach. Throughout the drive I kept wondering if I was doing the right thing. The kidnapper had phoned me on my way down and asked me to meet him there. He had told me to turn off my handset, and leave it in the car, warning me not to try anything stupid. The way he spoke, I guessed he was somehow observing me. And on my way down I had a feeling that there was someone coming behind me. I pulled up in front of the rundown abandoned building on the edge of the beach that had once been a warehouse. I did everything I was told and stepped out of the car. The air was cold and damp. I could hear the waves and my heart raced as I walked towards the building. I touched an old wooden door and it opened. It was dark inside, but the moonlight streamed in. Everywhere was quiet.“Hello!” I called out. The empty building echoed back at me.“Anyone here? Rebecca?”“Put your hands behind you!” A voice said quietly behind me.My heart skipped, but I o

Becky’s POV“It has been awhile hasn’t it?” Celine sneered.“So you are behind this? You are working with Dom! I guessed it.”“I am not the only one, stupid.” She laughed.“Who else? Your dad, right?”“You don’t need to know. Did you really think you and Phillip would get away with what you did to my family?”“We didn’t do anything!” I said angrily. “He did. My dad lost his company and reputation because of him! Now it is time for payback.”“You won’t get away with this, Celine!” “Save it! We already have. We are going to get money and get rid of you both.”I swallowed nervously.“What do you mean?” I demanded.“Simple, stupid. We are going to get ransom for you, then make sure you are never seen again. Are you scared?” She asked mockingly.“It won’t work. Phillip has probably informed the security agencies. If you kill me, you will regret it,” I said bravely.“He hasn’t, and he won’t. Besides who said anything about killing you? Although I would have preferred that, my partner has

Phillip’s POVSandra and Jenny looked at me anxiously as I hung up.“Well?” They asked.“The caller is asking for two hundred million dollars.” Sandra gasped. “When does he want it?” She muttered.“In five days.”“I will pay for it.”“Do you have that much money aunt Sandy? Your company may collapse,” Jenny told her.“I don’t mind,” she said. “Okay, I will pay half. Can you make up for the rest, Phillip?”“Wait, you want us to pay the ransom?” I asked, surprised.“Of course,” they chorused.“No. We are not paying any ransom. I will call the police.”“No! The kidnapper warned you not to, remember?” Jenny said.Sandra joined her. “She is right. We will keep it quiet, pay the ransom and Rebecca will be returned to us.” “Come on you two, you can’t really believe that? What if he gets the money and we never hear from him or Rebecca again?”“It is a risk we have to take,” Jenny said.“I prefer to risk going to the police,” I insisted.“No. Pay the money. Becky’s POVI groaned and twisted as light infiltrated into my eyes. My eyes still felt heavy and that arrogant fragrance was still hovering over my nose.I thought I was at home and was drifting off to sleep again when I heard a cellphone ringing somewhere. The ringtone sounded like mine. I forced myself to open my eyes, and realized with a shock that I wasn’t on my bed at home.Quickly sitting up, my head spun a bit, and realization hit me that I was on an airbed. I looked around and noticed how small and dusty the room was. The only thing visible being the airbed and a portable toilet. Light streamed in from a glass window that had metal bars.Where am I? I thought.I scanned through my brain to recollect my past. Then I remembered. I was at the cemetery, about to leave when I saw Dom standing near my car. I remembered the hankie he tossed before me before I went blank. My heart skipped a beat. Did Dom kidnap me? Why? For money or something more? I tried to stand up, but I felt a p

If anything happens to her, you will be held accountable.” She marched to her room.“You see what you have caused! Now my own daughter thinks I am guilty!” She told me angrily.“Are you?” I asked, looking her in the eye.“Don’t be stupid, of course not. I didn’t know she was missing until Wendy started accusing me this afternoon. She was here yesterday and left the way she came.”“So where were you hoping to get the half a million from?”“Like I said, from Rebecca. She promised to give it to me.”I frowned. This was definitely a lie.“She couldn’t have,” I said. “I have looked at the financial records, with the way you left the company, if she took that much money out she risked going bankrupt. So how was she going to do it?”She looked surprised then uncomfortable.“Well maybe from her savings.”“Definitely no. She hasn’t saved up to that.”“I said mayb

Is anything wrong?”“We found her car parked at the cemetery. We would like her to come and remove it.”“The cemetery. Oh my God!” Sandra said, coming to join us. “She is not with us; we guess she must be in trouble.”“Have you made a report?” The cop asked.“No. I wanted to wait for twenty-four hours. But I will go now and do it,” I responded.I went straight ahead with the cop to remove the vehicle. The car keys, her phone, and her purse were on the driver’s seat.It became glaring that something was definitely wrong. ***“Jerry has something to do with this!” Jenny insisted. We were all in my living room. I have it under control.”“Why weren’t you picking your calls?” He asked.“You called me? I didn’t hear it. I turned off the volume. Is Rebecca not here?”“No. I called her too, but she did not pick up. She must be at work.”“No. She is taking time off work to prepare for our wedding.”“Really?”“Yes. I thought she would be here, that's why I didn’t hurry so much.”“Nope. I haven’t seen any sign of her.
