Becky’s POV

“Am I really going shopping with you?” I asked in excitement.

“And we are shopping at Lenora Fashions store! Wait until all my friends hear this! They will die of jealousy,” Wendy said.

“I thought you said they shopped there too,” I said, raising my brows.

She made a face. “Did you really believe that? I lied. Those guys couldn’t afford to even look at the building.”

“Wendy? Seriously?”

“Hey Becky, I had to say something to sound cool, and the lie has now gotten us an afternoon of shopping. Yes! Let’s get going,” she said, jumping up.

“Not so fast. Sit down. Let us have a snack first. We are not in a hurry. Let me show you some hospitality,” I joked.

I called for the housekeeper who brought us cake and soda.

“Mmm!” Wendy said, biting into the cake. “This is living. Please let me move in with you.”

“Mom would never allow it,” I reminded her.

“I will run away from home. She will search for me for a day or two then give up.”

“No, she won’t. She will search and find you hidin

Phillip’s POV My phone was ringing as I came out of the meeting. I smiled when I saw the caller.“Hey sweetie, I was just thinking about you,” I told her excitedly.“And what was occupying your mind?” Rebecca asked.“How I wish I could take you to lunch.”“Your wish is granted. I am waiting for you downstairs.”“Wow! Okay, I am on my way down.”I took the elevator to the carpark. Celine called me on the way, but I ignored her.As I walked to my car I heard someone calling me. I looked around but couldn’t see anybody.“Hey, over here!”I saw the window of a blue car roll down, and Rebecca stuck her head out of the driver’s window.“What are you doing there?” I asked as I walked towards her.“I am here to take you to lunch,” she grinned.“Sandra let you use her car?”“Nope. This beauty is mine,” she said proudly.“How?”“Sandra bought it for me. Neat right?”“Okay, I want to hear more,” I said, and got in beside her.We drove to a restaurant. Over lunch, she filled me in on everything

Phillip’s POV My first surprise stepping into the Davis home was seeing a table set for two.“I thought this was a dinner meeting of your dad and his business partners?” I asked Celine suspiciously.“Yes, but it was cancelled at the last minute,” she said, but I could see she was clearly lying. “But since we are here, we can as well have dinner together.”“I hate being lied to, Celine. If you wanted me to come over here, then tell me the truth,” I said, fuming.“I did. It was originally a dinner date, but it was called off.”“Yeah, right!”“Besides, if I had told you, would you have come?” She glared at me.“No!” I sat down in annoyance. She was right anyway, because I would never choose to be there for any irrelevant purpose. She poured us wine, and raised her glass for a toast. I ignored her and drank my wine.“Come on, toast with me.”“Can we just eat so I can get the hell out of here?”“What is the hurry about, sweetheart?” She purred.“Where is the food?”“On its way. I hope you

Becky’s POV “Rebecca, is everything okay?” Sandra called from the head of the stairs.“Yes, all is fine.” I stammered glancing at Phillip who was as embarrassed as I was. We heard her coming down, and straightened out.“Phillip, what are you doing here?” She was surprised to see him just as I had been.“I was passing when I suddenly started having trouble with the car, so I wanted to ask if I could leave it here until tomorrow?”The lie sounded dumb to me, but Sandra seemed to believe it.“Sure. Feel free. Why don’t you stay too? It is late.”“Really?”“Yes. You can use the guest room. Could you please show it to him, Becky?” She asked me.“Sure thing.”She wished us good night and went back upstairs.“That was a pretty dumb lie,” I whispered when we were alone.“As long as she believes it, who cares?” He said, pulling me towards him.“Behave,” I said. “Come on.”“Where are we going?” He asked, reaching for my hip.I pushed his arm away.“To show you your room. Becky’s POV I snuck back to my room before 6:00 am. I did not want to risk Sandra catching me coming out of the guest room, and discovering that I had spent the night with Phillip. Sure, we were adults, but it was her house, I had to respect her.But it had been a very romantic night. I smiled as I remembered it while under the showerhead.Sandra was sitting at the dining table when I walked in.“Did you sleep well?” She asked me. I couldn’t tell whether there was a mischievous light in her eyes, or if I was imagining it. Had she guessed about my night with Phillip?“It was fine. Thanks,” I said, taking the seat next to her. “I have sent those new designs to you. Look at them, and make whatever improvement you like. But remember, keep it between us.”I nodded. “Sure.”I looked out of the window, trying to see Phillip’s car and wondered why he wasn’t up yet.“Phillip left a couple of minutes ago,” she said, guessing what I was looking for.“He did?” I was startled.“Yes. Becky’s POVI stared at my laptop. Someone had moved it. It was upside down, clearly not how I had left it. With shaky hands, I boot it. It came on like normal, and my password still opened it.“Phew! Maybe whoever it was that moved it hadn’t been able to open it.” I hoped, not for my sake, but for the secret design that was in it. If anyone assessed it, I was doomed.I tried to calm down. Who could have done this? Steve of course! He knew I was working on something, and wanted to find out what it was.Should I confront him? With what evidence? Or should I tell Sandra? But I risked looking incompetent and reckless, especially since it was clear that the designs were intact. I decided to keep silent, and be more careful. Next time, I would lock my desk drawer.“Rebecca.”I jumped slightly as Steve came in.“Yes?”“I wa

Becky’s POVMy jaw hit the floor as I read the news item. A rival company had stolen our new design as theirs, and had already launched it; and guess who the rival company belonged to? Ben Davis!“How did that slimy beast grasp his hand on the secret design?” She asked. “It was just you and I who knew about it.”I was too stunned to say anything.“The investors have already paid for this design, and they are expecting it tomorrow, what the hell am I going to tell them?” She continued, frustrated and angry.“I have no idea of what is going on, I swear I did not leak this,” I said, my mouth was so dry and my voice sounded hoarse.“But do you have an idea of who must have done it?’”I nodded, feeling stupid and told her my suspicions about Steve.“Steve? Impossible. Yes, I know he was a little mad about being replaced, but he would never betray me. We go back a long way.”“He is the only one I can think of,” I said.“If you suspected he had tampered with your computer; why did you not sa

Becky’s POVI turned to see Jerry.“Hey gorgeous, just the person to see at this moment,” he said, then occupied the empty space beside me.“What do you want?” I blared angrily.“Easy. I just came in to grab a bite when I saw your beautiful face.”“Go away, Jerry. I don’t need any trouble.”“Neither do I. I just want to talk with you and catch up. How have you been?”It took a lot of effort to stop myself from slapping him across his face. The nerve of him to sit with me, and act friendly after all the hurt he put me through. I decided I wasn’t going to lose my cool because of the jerk, and stood up to leave.“Hey, I am talking to you,” he said, grabbing my arm.“Let me go!” The few people in the café looked at us, wondering what was going on.“You heard her, let her go!”We turned to see Steve.“Who is this? I couldn’t believe it.She nodded. “We have history together.”She went to stand before the high school picture.“We dated in high school, and he proposed to me the day before I graduated from college. We were so much in love. We planned to get married and set up a company together. Everything seemed so perfect. Until I caught him in bed with my bridesmaids a day before the wedding. The beast wasn’t even remorseful. It was then I realized he had never loved me, but had just wanted to use my business brain all along.” She released a sigh. “Steve did warn me then, but I was too blinded by love to listen.”“I am really sorry,” I said, coming to stand beside her. “What did you do?”“I left and never looked back. He used my ideas to start his own company, but being the idiot he is it never worked out. I started Lenora Fashions, and look where I am today. Success is really the best revenge.”“Wow, some history.” I smiled. “What happened to the bridesm

Becky’s POVIt didn’t take long for the cop to find the key and get the chain off my leg. I felt a little dizzy when I tried to stand, but aside from that I was fine. The officer insisted on taking me to the hospital even though I told them I was okay. All I needed was a bath. Phillip rode with me in the ambulance while Celine and Frank were handcuffed and taken away. The doctors agreed I was okay except for the bruise on my ankle, I was told they would keep me for twenty-four hours then I could go home.“I will call Sandra, and the rest to let them know you are okay,” Phillip said as he kissed me.“Sure.”Finally, I was able to take a shower. I felt a lot better, but when I laid down, I couldn’t help being furious about the whole thing. How could Frank do such a thing? He said he loved me, was kidnapping me a funny way of showing it?Sandra and Jenny arrived so quickly I wondered if they had been in the area. They hugged me tightly, laughing and crying.“Thank God you are okay! Phillip’s POV“Frank! What the hell! Is this a joke?” Rebecca asked.I just stared at him, too lost to find my voice.“Does it look like a joke, Rebecca?” Frank sneered.“Frank, what are you doing?” I finally was able to mutter.“We are working together. Are you surprised?” Celine asked.“What? So Dom is working for you?” Rebecca asked in astonishment.“Sure. He has been my eye in the house from the day he was hired,” Frank smirked. “His job was to keep an eye on everyone there.”“Why?” I asked, stunned.“Are you asking, you idiot?” he laughed. “You really think I like you? You are dumber than I thought.”“We have been working together from the beginning. We knew each other before he introduced me to you, so it wasn’t so hard to come along,” Celine grinned.“So all the sabotage I have been having at the company, and the investors pulling out because of a false rumor, you were behind it?” I flared at Frank.“Yes. And I also told Jessica to dump you. I told her you were having an affair

  • Loving The Man I Wanted To Hate   Chapter 158. The Real Enemy

Phillip’s POVIt was quite late when I got to the beach. Throughout the drive I kept wondering if I was doing the right thing. The kidnapper had phoned me on my way down and asked me to meet him there. He had told me to turn off my handset, and leave it in the car, warning me not to try anything stupid. The way he spoke, I guessed he was somehow observing me. And on my way down I had a feeling that there was someone coming behind me. I pulled up in front of the rundown abandoned building on the edge of the beach that had once been a warehouse. I did everything I was told and stepped out of the car. The air was cold and damp. I could hear the waves and my heart raced as I walked towards the building. I touched an old wooden door and it opened. It was dark inside, but the moonlight streamed in. Everywhere was quiet.“Hello!” I called out. The empty building echoed back at me.“Anyone here? Rebecca?”“Put your hands behind you!” A voice said quietly behind me.My heart skipped, but I o

Becky’s POV“It has been awhile hasn’t it?” Celine sneered.“So you are behind this? You are working with Dom! I guessed it.”“I am not the only one, stupid.” She laughed.“Who else? Your dad, right?”“You don’t need to know. Did you really think you and Phillip would get away with what you did to my family?”“We didn’t do anything!” I said angrily. “He did. My dad lost his company and reputation because of him! Now it is time for payback.”“You won’t get away with this, Celine!” “Save it! We already have. We are going to get money and get rid of you both.”I swallowed nervously.“What do you mean?” I demanded.“Simple, stupid. We are going to get ransom for you, then make sure you are never seen again. Are you scared?” She asked mockingly.“It won’t work. Phillip has probably informed the security agencies. If you kill me, you will regret it,” I said bravely.“He hasn’t, and he won’t. Besides who said anything about killing you? Although I would have preferred that, my partner has

Phillip’s POVSandra and Jenny looked at me anxiously as I hung up.“Well?” They asked.“The caller is asking for two hundred million dollars.” Sandra gasped. “When does he want it?” She muttered.“In five days.”“I will pay for it.”“Do you have that much money aunt Sandy? Your company may collapse,” Jenny told her.“I don’t mind,” she said. “Okay, I will pay half. Can you make up for the rest, Phillip?”“Wait, you want us to pay the ransom?” I asked, surprised.“Of course,” they chorused.“No. We are not paying any ransom. I will call the police.”“No! The kidnapper warned you not to, remember?” Jenny said.Sandra joined her. “She is right. We will keep it quiet, pay the ransom and Rebecca will be returned to us.” “Come on you two, you can’t really believe that? What if he gets the money and we never hear from him or Rebecca again?”“It is a risk we have to take,” Jenny said.“I prefer to risk going to the police,” I insisted.“No. Pay the money. Becky’s POVI groaned and twisted as light infiltrated into my eyes. My eyes still felt heavy and that arrogant fragrance was still hovering over my nose.I thought I was at home and was drifting off to sleep again when I heard a cellphone ringing somewhere. The ringtone sounded like mine. I forced myself to open my eyes, and realized with a shock that I wasn’t on my bed at home.Quickly sitting up, my head spun a bit, and realization hit me that I was on an airbed. I looked around and noticed how small and dusty the room was. The only thing visible being the airbed and a portable toilet. Light streamed in from a glass window that had metal bars.Where am I? I thought.I scanned through my brain to recollect my past. Then I remembered. I was at the cemetery, about to leave when I saw Dom standing near my car. I remembered the hankie he tossed before me before I went blank. My heart skipped a beat. Did Dom kidnap me? Why? For money or something more? I tried to stand up, but I felt a p

Phillip’s POV“Enough Wendy! Go to your room!” Her mother snapped.Wendy frowned. “If you know where she is, mom, you should say it. If anything happens to her, you will be held accountable.” She marched to her room.“You see what you have caused! Now my own daughter thinks I am guilty!” She told me angrily.“Are you?” I asked, looking her in the eye.“Don’t be stupid, of course not. I didn’t know she was missing until Wendy started accusing me this afternoon. She was here yesterday and left the way she came.”“So where were you hoping to get the half a million from?”“Like I said, from Rebecca. She promised to give it to me.”I frowned. This was definitely a lie.“She couldn’t have,” I said. “I have looked at the financial records, with the way you left the company, if she took that much money out she risked going bankrupt. So how was she going to do it?”She looked surprised then uncomfortable.“Well maybe from her savings.”“Definitely no. She hasn’t saved up to that.”“I said mayb

Is anything wrong?”“We found her car parked at the cemetery. We would like her to come and remove it.”“The cemetery. Oh my God!” Sandra said, coming to join us. “She is not with us; we guess she must be in trouble.”“Have you made a report?” The cop asked.“No. I wanted to wait for twenty-four hours. But I will go now and do it,” I responded.I went straight ahead with the cop to remove the vehicle. The car keys, her phone, and her purse were on the driver’s seat.It became glaring that something was definitely wrong. ***“Jerry has something to do with this!” Jenny insisted. We were all in my living room. After I left the station, I went home and let Sandra know what had happened, then I called Frank and Jenny to inform them too. I have it under control.”“Why weren’t you picking your calls?” He asked.“You called me? I didn’t hear it. I turned off the volume. Is Rebecca not here?”“No. I called her too, but she did not pick up. She must be at work.”“No. She is taking time off work to prepare for our wedding.”“Really?”“Yes. I thought she would be here, that's why I didn’t hurry so much.”“Nope. I haven’t seen any sign of her. I have been calling her all afternoon,” Frank told me.I dialed her number. It rang without an answer.“She is supposed to meet Jenny this afternoon to pick up her gown. I guess that is where she is.
