MORGANA FOSTER
I carefully organized my things in the closet, next to the elegant dresses I had received for the Burke family gatherings. I closed the suitcases with a sigh, eager to escape the tension that enveloped every fiber of my being, and carefully stowed them away in a corner. I filled the bathtub and undressed to sink into the water, hoping to cool down and relax the tension that filled my body.
“He didn't even touch you, Morgana! Get a grip!” I whispered to myself, trying to divert my thoughts away from Ryan's presence. Why did he affect me so much? What the hell!
I let myself be enveloped by the touch of the water, sliding my fingers over my skin in the hope of dissipating the heat radiating from my body. Moans involuntarily escaped my lips, revealing the intensity of my sensations. It wasn't routine for me, but in that moment, I desperately needed that release, and I knew I couldn't have him for myself, after all, he never touched me.
“Morgana?” The sound of the door opening and Ryan's voice calling my name broke my brief moment of peace. “Oh, damn!” I cursed, looking around desperately for my towel.
“Just a minute!” I replied quickly, trying to regain my composure as he entered the bathroom without ceremony.
I took a deep breath, trying not to show nervousness at being caught like a teenager.
The bathroom door was pushed open without courtesy, and Ryan, now in a suit, looked at me in the bathtub. The sight of the man was stunning, the woody smell of his imported cologne completely filled my senses. I averted my gaze and prayed for the foam to cover as much of my body as possible. I had never been naked in front of him, and the only time we kissed was on our wedding day, and it was a bland kiss for a photo that wouldn't have happened if it weren't for his grandparents' insistence.
Despite my scowling expression, I wasn't angry that he had interrupted me, but I was nervous about his presence. He made me completely nervous. God! I didn't even understand why he had this effect on me.
“What do you want?” I spoke without looking at him.
“Is that how you talk to your husband, Miss Foster?” he asked in a tone dripping with sarcasm. I looked at him irritably and then back at the bubbles covering me, feeling less embarrassed than before.
Did he hear my moans? Was he listening the whole time? , I thought.
After a few moments of silence, he continued. Ryan continued to stare at me, but said nothing.
“Alright, why did you come, husband?”
“Grandpa Burke wants to see you!” he says, looking at the mirror and adjusting his tie. “He heard you arrived. I’ll take you to the mansion for now, and then James will bring you back after dinner. Get dressed appropriately as quickly as possible, okay?”
“Is James the one picking me up?” I asked, puzzled. Since we were going together, why would I have to return with James?
“Yes, I have a commitment later,” he replied curtly.
“That 's it?”
Ryan smiled and looked at me in a presumptuous way. Now, for sure, I seemed like a trapped little animal to him. And somehow, that amused him. I never paid attention to how he made me nervous with his suffocating presence.
Most women got nervous around him, he knew, but he never noticed that I was one of those women too.
“Unless you need help with your bath,” a damn smirk appeared on his square, chiseled face, “that’s all.”
My eyes chilled at the suggestion hidden in his words, and I swallowed hard. I must be delirious. Definitely.
What the hell did this man have that was making me so flustered? What did he want from me?
We barely exchanged words during family visits and parties we attended together, and out of nowhere, he had the purpose of provoking me.
“Okay. Could you leave, please? I won’t take long, I swear,” I said in an almost tearful tone, still staring at the water. I cursed myself for it.
Ryan let out a low laugh and turned to leave; seconds later, I heard the bathroom door close, and I released the breath I hadn’t realized I was holding until now, relaxing my back in the bathtub.
I didn’t take much longer to avoid the risk of the man I married rushing me and finding me naked again. We are ending this. We don't need any more embarrassing moments in our collection.
I left the bathroom dressed in a robe. I chose a tight red dress that I had received as a birthday gift from Grandma Burke. Strangely, it made me curvy and seductive.
The neckline was small and heart-shaped, but my average breasts filled it out. The dress was slightly above the knee, so I put on sheer stockings in the same shade as my skin to ward off the evening chill, low heels, and lingerie as beautiful as the dress, also in shades of red, even though no one would see it. I styled my hair to the side, put on some jewelry I received during the annual parties and celebrations, and applied simple makeup with brown smoky eyes, pink lipstick, and a touch of perfume. In just a few minutes, I was ready. I checked myself in the mirror once more and then headed downstairs.
The sound of my high heels echoed through the house as I reached the stairs, drawing Ryan's attention to me.
"Shall we?" I spoke softly and calmly, catching his gaze.
He looked at me for a few seconds and said, "Change your clothes," then went back to looking at his phone as if nothing had happened.
"What's wrong with my outfit?" I walked over to the mirror, checking again to make sure nothing was amiss. "It was a gift from grandma; she's never seen me wearing it. Since we'll be separating soon, she won't see me wearing it again if not today."
There was sadness in my voice. It hurt to know I would never see Ryan's grandparents again, but I pressed my lips together and kept a blank expression. He couldn't know how much this all affected me.
"Okay..." he replied in a whisper, getting up. "It's late. Go with that outfit, but behave yourself."
I nodded, and we headed out to the car. The truth was, the outfit enhanced my beauty. And even though Ryan wasn't in a real marriage, he didn't like it when anyone coveted what was his. Especially his wife. That possessive air always hung over us.
MORGANA FOSTERIn the car, the drive to the Burke mansion was silent. Ryan didn’t try to start a conversation, and I didn’t insist on bothering him. Silence reigned throughout the journey. As he drove, I looked out the window, remembering how it all began and how I ended up here.“Who would have thought that little Morgana Melissa Foster would be married at twenty-three to a guy as handsome and powerful as Ryan Burke,” I thought, stealing a glance at the man driving the black Rolls Royce, perfectly sculpted in his black suit.I couldn’t help but laugh bitterly at my own life.In the first year of marriage to Ryan, I was certain I could win his heart if I were genuine and showed him I was willing to do anything for us.So, I cooked my best dishes and sweets. I took care of him when he was sick, did everything I could, but it didn’t help much since he spent most of his time on business trips and the majority of his free time with Elena. No matter how kind and caring I was, I realized he
RYAN BURKEWhy the hell is everyone looking at and praising Morgana now? , I thought, feeling that twinge of jealousy burning in my mind.In recent years, I had been negligent; I didn’t visit her, nor did I inquire about how she was doing. Not even on the day of her father’s funeral. Elena had an issue and was in the hospital that day, and I was with her. So, I accompanied her, but made sure I left Morgana well-supported with all possible resources."Enough with the compliments for my wife, Stefan," I said, squeezing his shoulder firmly and maintaining a smile. "You're embarrassing her."She kept her eyes lowered and a shy smile while all attention was directed at her. This behavior was unusual, even for her."Are you getting jealous, cousin?""Where is my beloved granddaughter?" My grandfather called out, his voice echoing as he entered the room, sparing me from a response. Morgana's eyes sparkled like crystal as she spotted the elderly gentleman entering the room.My grandfather, Mr
MORGANA FOSTERIn just a few minutes after answering a call, Ryan was gone with a flimsy excuse to his family, leaving behind a heavy atmosphere. I tried my best to ignore anything he might cause me.He hadn't given me a single explanation, but I knew he had left to meet Elena. My heart ached, and I had to keep up an awkward smile.By the end of the night, James guided me from the mansion back home. He was a handsome man, too much so to work as a mere driver. Always polite and kind. Treating me much better than my husband. The ride back was silent. James wasn't one for much chatter, and I wasn't much of a talker either.Arriving home, I climbed the stairs with my heels in hand and went straight to the bedroom. I took a hot shower, trying to rid myself of the thought, "What is he doing and with whom is he now?"I stepped out of the shower and put on a white satin nightgown with lace and comfortable panties. As Ryan would probably spend the night with Elena, I left the bedroom door sligh
RYAN BURKEAfter Morgana left, I looked at the papers on the table and began to flip through them. She had indeed signed. My heart had a small twinge of pain, and I didn't understand why the feeling. I had wished for the end of the marriage for a long time and only married that woman because of her father's illness, which eventually softened my heart and made me continue in that foolish contract of my grandfather's. Now there was reluctance within me to sign back and get rid of her. What was wrong then? It's okay that she wasn't a bad wife. In the first year of marriage, she didn't hinder any of my goals or interfere in any way with my relationship with Elena, so understanding. She even cooked some things I liked.I felt a bit of a cad for having an extramarital relationship, but as it was only a nominal marriage, I felt a bit better as time passed. I always went out with Elena for dinners and private parties without causing any major scandal, otherwise, my grandfather would kill me.A
MORGANA FOSTERThe hallway was quiet today at the hospital. We only had one emergency in the morning. A girl had arrived with her leg trapped in a car wheel. It was a simple procedure to remove the tire and a minor surgery to mend the broken bones in her foot with the orthopedic team. Now, I was just walking around and reviewing some of the previous patients' charts."Doctor Foster!" Elliot smiled as he spotted me and walked over. His blonde hair, brown eyes, along with his tall, slender figure made him irresistible. He could easily pass for a model, no doubt. He approached and gave me a kiss on the cheek. "How are you? Enjoying working here?""Hi, Dr. Sharon, I'm loving everything!" I smiled at him and withdrew after the greeting. Such a charming and kind man. "I hope to get into the residency program next year; I'm very excited about the internship results.""I'm glad you're enjoying it! You're an excellent candidate for the residency spot. I'm sure you'll get it," he smiled, encoura
MORGANA FOSTEREverything seemed normal when we arrived at the club. The loud music and flashing lights greeted us. People were dancing in some areas. I scanned the venue, not spotting them."Where are they?" I asked, turning to Bethany. She craned her neck to look around the club and spotted the group of doctors sitting in a reserved area, my eyes following her all the way."I found them!" she said, pulling me by the hand across the hall. They smiled at us, so we made our way over, politely excusing ourselves through the dancers on the dance floor."Ladies!" John Nardek, the cardiac surgeon, was the first to greet us. John was 6'2", with black hair, brown eyes, full, velvety lips. He was wearing a white shirt, light blue jeans, and a black leather jacket outlining his slim figure. It was the first time he had made a greeting outside of the formal setting. He raised a beer glass in a friendly gesture. "Welcome!""Hello!" we replied together, causing laughter. Also there were Jordana Mi
RYAN BURKE"Come on, Ryan, don't be a damn son of a bitch!" exclaimed Stefan. "Why don't you want to sign the divorce? Did you really think Morgana's love would last forever?"I shot him a cold look and scowled, slamming the glass on the table in front of him. Michael laughed at his friend's reaction and choked on his drink, coughing a bit to clear his throat. Stefan widened his eyes but continued: "No. Seriously, man. Did you think you could keep her on the leash while you slept with another woman?" His tone was sarcastic and ironic, making me tighten my jaw."I didn't think anything!" I explained calmly, keeping my eyes serene. "I just don't want to sign this crap just because she wants this shit done quickly."Michael raised his eyebrows, but I remained with my irritated gaze. "Just because she doesn't need my family's money anymore, she thinks she can do this? I don't understand why she agreed so quickly.""I thought this was what you wanted," said Michael. "Isn't it? You wanted t
MORGANA FOSTERI left without saying goodbye to Bethany, but I sent a message letting her know I was leaving. And recounting part of the mess I got myself into because of Ryan's unfounded and ridiculous jealousy. I also sent a message to Elliot apologizing for what happened that night, I really wanted to have fun that night and things ended up terrible.Morgana: Sorry about the jerk at the club!Elliot: It's okay...Elliot: Are you hurt?Morgana: No, just embarrassed.Elliot: You don't need to feel embarrassed! Look, I have to do some stuff nowElliot: Can we talk later?Elliot: Good night, Dr. FosterMorgana: Oh! Of course, no problemMorgana: Good night, Dr. Sharon, and again, I'm sorryI got into a taxi and went home, the way seemed like it would never end. I didn't see them at the club at any point, if I had known they were there, I definitely wouldn't have stayed there. I would have suggested anywhere else.Arriving home, I dropped the keys on the hallway console and left my shoes
MORGANA FOSTERI hurried down the hallway with my heart beating fast and my breath catching. If she found me, I was done for. I ducked under the table, covering my body with the curtain, trying not to make any noise."Gotcha!" The little blonde head ran towards me, stumbling in front of me. The bright blue eyes, as clear as Ryan's, stared at me with a toothless, gleaming smile."Oh, Alanis," I replied, patting the little one's head, "you found me, huh?"Alanis laughed, a childish, joy-filled laugh that filled the room. She pointed to the makeshift hiding spot under the table."'I found you, Auntie, but you're terrible at this!'" she exclaimed, her eyes still filled with amusement.I rolled my eyes affectionately, knowing my hiding attempt was useless. "'You're too smart, Alanis. I can't escape you, it seems.'"The little one got up and sat beside me, playing with her fingers as she looked at me. "'You look sad, Morgana. Why?'"I smiled, trying to disguise my feelings in front of her i
Four months later, Rookgaard, California. Burke's grandparents' house."The trial is in a week," Sorya says. "Do you want to go?"The dining table, once filled with laughter and the clinking of glasses and utensils, is now immersed in complete silence. I look around to make sure I'm not alone in my silence. I swallow the bitter ache of the hours of terror I suffered at the hands of the two women."I don't feel like seeing them again," I mutter, feeling a lump forming in my throat. "Just the thought of sharing the same space with them fills me with anger.""And you don't have to go if you don't want to!" Elena says, laying her hand on mine, giving me a warm smile. Her cheeks are rosy, and her belly is huge. The baby will be born soon.I give her a weak smile and mumble a quiet thank you to her. At first, I never thought I'd feel comfortable beside my 'rival,' but now that she's engaged to James, her presence is no longer a threat to me.
MORGANA FOSTER"You're really dumb, Mr. Burke!" Alessandra says, pressing the gun barrel against my head.I swallow hard, feeling the pressure and weight of the metal barrel on my head. My eyes automatically widen as if the whole world stops spinning when I hear the gun being cocked."Let's negotiate," Ryan says calmly, looking at the men with him, who step back a bit. "What do you want?""We've already said," Winnie replies this time. "16 million dollars in my account. By noon... And maybe I'll release this one here."She says, pulling my head back, which tilts backward. The taste of iron fills my mouth. Maybe this is it. A fight over money."Even if I wanted to, that's a lot of money," he replies."See? Mrs. Burke," Alessandra says with a laugh. "He doesn't think you're worth it.""In the end, all the Burke's are the same. Why are you so stubborn?" Winnie says, turning to face me. "Maybe he'll take us seriously if we shoot her. What do you think?"My breath remains irregular, my hea
MORGANA FOSTER"Missed me?" Alessandra's unmistakable voice cuts through the entire shed, invading my ears.A new flood of emotions fills my soul as I spot her profile appearing in the corner of my eye until she's fully in front of me.How did I let myself be fooled by that silly story of her becoming a nurse to take care of her mother?"What happened?" Alessandra sneers with a disdainful expression on her face. "Cat got your tongue?""I think she's a bit surprised that you're my daughter," Winnie declares.Alessandra walks over to Winnie's side and leans on the counter. I hadn't noticed before, but there's a short resemblance between the two. I feel completely different now. Foolish for never noticing anything strange about them.I swallow hard as I watch the two of them. I can't believe this is true. Part of me wants to completely deny that I could be so blind."What are we going to do with her?" Alessandra says, turning to her mother."I don't know," Winnie replies with a satisfied
RYAN BURKEI practically flew down the road incessantly without the certainty that I'll find her well. The damn phone rings so many times that I can't keep count. It rings eight times and goes to voicemail again."Hello, you've reached Doctor Foster, please leave your message after the beep."I insist on calling again, the echoing sound as the phone rings is deafening."Come on, Morgana!" I speak nervously. "Come on, pick up!""Hello, you've reached Doctor Foster, please leave your message after the beep."I slam both hands on the steering wheel in frustration.I pray in my heart that she's just too tired to hear the phone ringing. In fact, the adrenaline pumping through me, boiling like lava, begs to all the gods that she's just asleep in our room.I press down on the accelerator with a tight heart, thoughts that she might be in danger consume me entirely. I fear it might already be too late to reach her. Ronan's car is following me, I know it's him because I saw my mom getting into
MORGANA FOSTERShe gives a bitter smile as she finishes her speech. I can't imagine her pain, but I understand that it hurts. She paused, taking a breath, while I absorbed every word. The intensity of the moment deepened with each revelation."However, the compensation didn't bring my loved ones back," she continued, her gaze fixed on some point beyond me. "And the person responsible for maintaining that machine, who didn't do his job properly, was none other than your father, Morgana. He was the supervisor that night. And he wasn't there to ensure that everything was working properly."A chill ran down my spine. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. My father, responsible for two deaths?"So, you think I should pay for his mistakes?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady.Winnie gave a bitter smile. "No, Morgana. You don't understand. It's not just about revenge. It's about justice. He continued with his life, as if nothing had happened. As if any amount could pay for my son's lif
MORGANA FOSTERI wake up feeling a tight grip around my wrists, chest, and ankles. My suspicion is confirmed when I pull them and feel the rope scraping against my skin. I raise my head slowly, still feeling a heavy weight on it, accompanied by a throbbing buzz in my ear.I open and close my eyes a few times, getting used to the low light of the place. My mouth is completely dry; I run my lips around my tongue, partially moistening them. There's no noise outside. At least not near where I am.I try not to panic and breathe slowly to catch my breath.I see my bare feet and nails covered in dirt and small pieces of grass. Looking up, I spot the floating particles of dust coming through a tiny glass window. I look to the side, and the walls are cast iron. As if I'm in some sort of container or warehouse shed. The smell of mold and rust is faint but can be sensed in the environment. The floor is dirty, with dust everywhere. My dress is slightly torn at the hem, with tape wrapped around th
RYAN BURKEThe day at the company was chaotic. With Uncle Ned's departure, things spiraled out of control too quickly. Many questions arose about how things reached this point and went unnoticed by us all this time. And with all this situation, it fell to me to analyze all the transactions and operations carried out by him and his team. There were many suspicions and many discrepancies in the information.I had to inform Stefan and Nick about the recent events so they could be prepared to support my aunt Cibila. I assured them that I wouldn't involve the police in this out of consideration for our friendship and because we're family, but he would have to leave the company without any rights.Which is not unfair. I also passed on the information to my grandfather, who didn't have a very different reaction from the shareholders, but Grandpa Burke would handle Ned differently. And that was their problem. I spent the whole day analyzing every single transaction he made. There was a lot to
MORGANA FOSTERI remember little of being fully awake. Memories are jumbled in my mind like a giant, torturous blur. I feel my body being lifted from the chair and dragged outside the mansion. I can't scream, nor could I. My arms are lifted and pulled back, she drags me through the property with agony. Can I scream? But...Who would hear me? Bethany is with John. Ryan is at the company. I let Tyron off his duties earlier, James is taking care of Elena, and Alessandra hasn't been with us for months. What I can't get out of my head is how my stalker could be Winnie? What did I do to her? Why would she kidnap me or attempt on my life? I only met her after the Burkes, there was no real reason for her to target me.I couldn't believe it was her, my stalker. She who had always been so kind and friendly. The sweet woman who took care of all of us. It didn't seem real to me! How did this happen? How could she do such a thing? The blurry images of corridors and furniture passing through my eye
