CHAPTER 10: THE DATE

Lily’s Point of View

"You are beautiful," he said as we started eating. I flushed and looked down at my plate. "Thank you," I murmured.

"A woman like you must have plans for the future. What are your desires?" he asked, his gaze penetrating. I put down my fork, pondering his question.

"That’s a tough one for me," I began. "Most of my desires involved my father, and now…" I trailed off, the pain of his loss still fresh.

"I am sorry again for your loss," Thomas said, with sincerity. For the first time, I saw a different side of him—a kind side. Maybe I should get to know him better, I thought.

"I love my job," I said, "and I, also, enjoy cooking, good movies, and music. That should suffice for now, seeing as I don’t have many desires at, the moment, except to pay off the loans and go back, to Canada."

"You had no plans of staying?" he asked, surprised.

"What would be the point? Everything here reminds me of him and my regrets—memories that now bring me pain," I replied.
