Fiona was taken aback.
Then she smiled.
"Why do you ask that?"
One of them was sitting down and the other was standing.
Calum said with a probing tone, "Grandfather's whip is quite terrifying. If I didn't know you, I'd really think you were deeply in love with me."
‘Congratulations, what you thought was true,’ thought Fiona.
Fiona’s throat became tight, and she suddenly wanted to know what expression Calum would have if he heard her confess her feelings.
"Calum."
"Huh?"
Fiona stood up, walked to Calum's side, and stood close to him, her heart pounding wildly. "What if I really liked you, what would you do?"
Calum's suddenly started to back away, his eyes full of shock and panic.
Fiona knew this was Calum's most genuine reaction. Her feelings for him were a burden, a nuisance to him.
She hurriedly said, "Just kidding. You didn’t take me seriously, did you?"
Fiona smiled even more brightly, tilting her head playfully and innocently. "Look how scared you are, you're even sweating. Don't worry, you're not my type. I like energetic, cheerful boys with eight-pack abs. As for someone like you? I wouldn't even consider you."
Her slender fingers playfully poked his chest.
Calum's panicked expression faded, and though he felt relieved, something in his heart felt uneasy.
"What do you mean by 'someone like me'?"
‘The type that doesn’t love me.’ Fiona sighed inwardly.
She stubbornly insisted, almost as if trying to convince herself, "Anyway, you're not my type."
"Alright, Grandpa also said you should bring that man back. He wants to meet him in person. I'd like to see what kind of man can catch your eye."
Just mentioning this made Fiona feel a headache.
When Fiona suddenly got a marriage certificate with Calum, Sir Jones had given Calum a good beating.
Sir Jones and Fiona's grandfather had been comrades through life and death. Later, when Fiona's father died in an accident, her mother abandoned her at the Jones family’s door and disappeared.
Two years later, Fiona learned that her mother had remarried someone else and had discarded her to the Jones family because she saw her as a burden.
So, Fiona had grown up at the Jones family's residence. Sir Jones adored her the most. When she and Calum got married, Sir Jones was unhappy. It wasn't because he thought Fiona wasn't worthy of Calum, but because Calum had always been preoccupied with another woman, and Sir Jones was worried she would be wronged.
Now, Calum admitted that their marriage was a fake, and it had caused such a stir. Fiona also mentioned that she had someone she liked, so Sir Jones couldn't really interfere anymore.
They chatted for a while before Calum left.
For the next few days, Fiona was absent-minded, with Sir Jones urging her constantly, calling her every day to bring someone back to have a meal at the Jones family's residence.
It seemed Sir Jones wouldn't stop until he reached his goal. She had no choice but to find someone.
Fiona contacted an agent through Emily and made the call when everyone else went for lunch.
The phone was answered.
"Well, are you looking for a man or a woman?"
Was it really that straightforward?
Fiona said, "I want to rent a boyfriend, the most expensive one."
"Pfft!"
A chuckle came from behind her, scaring Fiona so much that she immediately hung up. She turned around and saw Hector's bright and sparkling eyes.
"Mr... Mr. Dixon."
Hector, hands in his pockets, asked with interest, "Renting a boyfriend? I didn’t expect Ms. Shaw to have such a modern point of view."
Fiona felt embarrassed, and her toes clenched. "My family is pushing me to get married. There's nothing I can do."
"Oh... I see," said Hector, smiling meaningfully. "Go ahead, I won't disturb you in your search for... a boyfriend."
Fiona wasn't sure if it was her imagination, but she seemed to see a trace of mockery on Hector’s face.
The two of them weren’t really close.
In the end, Fiona found a "boyfriend" through the agent. He was quite good in every way and met her standards.
At the Jones family.
Sir Jones checked his watch several times, and Calum noticed that Sir Jones seemed somewhat displeased.
Calum said, "Fiona, why don't you give him a call and ask if something delayed him on the way?"
"Okay."
Fiona took her phone and walked to a quiet place. She dialed the fake boyfriend's number, but the call wouldn’t go through.
What was going on with this person? They had clearly agreed on the time and place, but now she couldn’t even reach him. Was this a no-show?
With that thought in mind, Fiona planned to call the agent for clarification.
Just as she was about to make the call, she heard the housekeeper's enthusiastic voice. "Oh, you must be Fiona’s boyfriend?"
"I am."
"Sure enough, he's handsome and extraordinary. Fiona’s taste is really good."
Fiona heard the housekeeper’s praise and became curious about what this "boyfriend" had that was worth two thousand dollars.
She hurried over, but froze.
‘How... how could it be him?’
"Mr. Blaze, how come it’s you?"
The question slipped out before she could even stop herself, but it was Calum who spoke.
Calum was stunned, his surprise no less than Fiona's. "You and Fiona... the energetic boy with eight-pack abs?"
Lee, with his distinguished identity and exceptional charm, had a slightly different outfit today. His tall figure wore casual clothes, giving him an even more approachable aura.
Lee’s handsome face showed a half-smile, his eyes locked on Fiona, who was only a few steps away.
"So I have such a high opinion in Fiona's heart. I’m quite flattered."
Meeting his suddenly burning gaze, Fiona recalled that night when Lee had pinned her to the glass window, kissing her with passion. His hands roamed over every inch of her skin, and her cheeks unconsciously flushed.
With that said, Lee took a step towards Fiona, naturally took her hand, and said, "Sorry, something came up at work. I’m late. Please don’t be mad, okay?"
She wasn’t angry at all. She was completely at a loss.
In the blink of an eye, Lee had led her to Sir Jones.
Lee was graceful and courteous. "I should have come to visit you earlier, Sir Jones, but Fiona and Calum haven't divorced yet, so it kept being delayed until today."
Sir Jones came to his senses. From his tone, he seemed to know that their marriage was fake?
Sir Jones scanned them with sharp eyes and politely said, "I didn’t expect that the boyfriend Fiona mentioned would be Mr. Blaze. I just don’t know if Mr. Blaze is doing this on a whim, or if there’s something more to it."
Lee looked at Fiona with soft eyes. "Fiona is the only woman I want to marry. As long as she agrees, we can go to the civil office right now."
Fiona felt a chill run down her spine. If she didn’t know better, she would think Lee was deeply in love with her.
Sir Jones was momentarily stunned, while Calum frowned.
Especially when he saw the two of them holding hands, Calum’s frown deepened.
Fiona was completely stunned by Lee. She passively followed his lead, playing the role of a deeply in-love couple under his direction.
"Fiona, have some of this."
With his long fingers, Lee placed some food onto her plate, his gaze full of tenderness.
Fiona barely spoke throughout the meal. She was about to pick up the food when Calum’s cold voice interrupted. "Fiona has never liked seafood since she was a child. Does Mr. Blaze not know that?"
Lee cocked his brows, his cold gaze slightly provocative. "Are you sure, Mr. Jones, that Fiona doesn’t eat seafood because she doesn’t like it?"
"Why else?"
In an instant, their eyes locked in a confrontation, and the air seemed to freeze with tension.
