Fiona's eyes widened. Out of instinct, she covered Lee's mouth in a fluster.
"Mr. Blaze, stop talking nonsense."
Lee had an absolute height advantage. He looked down at the woman in front of him. "Mrs. Jones, are you flirting with me?"
Realizing that their posture was too ambiguous, Fiona withdrew her hand. "Mr. Blaze, please show some respect."
Lee chuckled. "When you kissed my Adam's apple and wrapped your arms around my neck last night, why didn't you show any respect then?"
The memory of last night emerged. She dared to say that it was the boldest thing she had done in her life. It was so bold that she couldn't believe it was something she had done.
Her cheeks burned inexplicably. Fiona frowned. "Mr. Blaze, have you forgotten what you promised me yesterday?"
Lee put his hands in his pockets. His cold eyes were like ice. "I haven't forgotten. I just think it's not worth it for Mrs. Jones. It's ridiculously stupid to be sad for a man who doesn't love you."
Was she stupid?
Perhaps in the eyes of outsiders, she was stupid.
But Fiona didn't think so. Most things in this world don't go as expected. She had tried and fought for what she wanted. Even if the result was not satisfactory, she accepted it.
Her love for him was real, and Fiona's determination to start anew was also real.
A look of determination appeared on her beautiful face. "Thank you, Mr. Blaze, for the reminder. But I have divorced Calum. Please change the way you address me in the future."
‘Divorced?’
A light suddenly appeared in the man's eyes.
Watching the slender figure walk straight into the law firm, Lee curled his lips into a smile.
Fiona's thoughts were in a mess because of Lee's appearance. For a moment, she actually forgot that Calum had just successfully proposed and she was still upset.
She was distracted in her office chair. Suddenly, she saw Lee again.
He took big strides, with a tall and straight figure. With one hand in his pocket, he fully displayed the essence of an elite businessman.
Their eyes accidentally met. But this time, Lee quickly looked away. His eyes were strange and cold.
Fortunately, Lee kept his word.
In the partner's office, Lee pushed the door open and sat on the sofa with his legs crossed.
Hector Dixon walked over with a smile and sat down. "What’s up with that sneaky smile on your face?"
Lee's mood was visibly good. "Help me with a case. I've sent the information to your email."
"Is it necessary for you, Mr. Blaze, to come here in person just for a case?" Hector carelessly put his arm on Lee’s shoulder. "Admit it. You came to see someone."
Lee smiled without saying a word, which was an admission.
Hector took the opportunity to complain. "Lee, I really can't stand that little lover of yours. It's been six months and she hasn't taken on a single case. She has only accepted a legal consultation job that only costs a little over 100 dollars. If it weren't for you protecting her, I would have fired her a long time ago."
"Provide her with an apartment in the law firm."
Hector's eyes almost popped out. "Lee, did you hear what I said? I'm about to fire her, and you want to provide her with an apartment? Are you crazy or am I crazy?"
Lee just gave him a simple glance, and Hector backed down.
"Don't look at me like that. I can approve an apartment for her, but what will the other lawyers think? You're making it difficult for me."
Slowly standing up, Lee patted Hector's shoulder. "Constant effort yields sure success, Mr. Dixon. Thank you for your hard work."
"No. Are you just going to leave like this? Hey, Lee, you're such a big jerk."
He came and went in a hurry.
Fiona didn't expect Lee to leave so quickly. Was it because the negotiation with the stingy Mr. Dixon was unsuccessful?
She lowered her head to reduce her sense of presence.
Lee really didn't disappoint her. During the process of leaving, he didn't even look at her.
In the afternoon, just as Fiona was about to get off work, Sir Jones’ call came in.
Fiona rushed from the law firm to the Jones family's residence. The moment the servant opened the door, Fiona heard the sound of a whip hitting flesh and making it bruised and bloody.
She quickened her pace. Sure enough, Calum was kneeling on the ground, and the whip in Sir Jones' hand was still stained with blood.
"Grandpa." Fiona was shocked and ran over to block in front of Calum. "Stop. You'll kill Calum like this."
Sir Jones was a former soldier when he was young. He was in good health and hit hard. He was determined to teach Calum a lesson today.
"Fiona, move aside. Since Calum dares to betray you, I will seek justice for you."
Calum's clothes were torn, but his attitude was unshakable. "Grandpa, even if you kill me today, I will still choose to be with Megan."
"You bastard. Then I'll kill you today. I’ll pretend that I never had a grandson like you."
The raised whip was menacing in the air. Fiona originally wanted to stop Sir Jones. Unexpectedly, she slipped and threw herself directly onto Calum.
The whip that was supposed to hit Calum hit her instead.
It hurt. It burned like hell. The pain caused Fiona to cry immediately.
It wasn't that she was being overly sentimental. It was really that painful.
"Fiona."
Calum helped Fiona up. "Why are you so stupid? I'm a grown man. I can take a few whips. Why did you take the hit for me?"
She didn't have the intention to take the hit for Calum. It was all just an accident.
"I..."
Before she could finish, Sir Jones cursed. "Calum, you bastard. Fiona is devoted to you and is willing to give her life for you, but you’ve disappointed her. I'll make sure to teach you a lesson that you’ll never forget."
Sir Jones' anger was soaring. Fiona really thought that Calum might be killed.
In a hurry, Fiona immediately said, "Grandpa, don't hit Calum anymore. I wanted the divorce. I have someone I like."
Sir Jones paused with the whip in his hand, his eyes full of disbelief.
At first, Sir Jones didn't believe it and thought that Fiona was making an excuse for Calum.
Fiona managed to make Sir Jones believe it with a lot of coaxing and deception. Since then, Calum's life was saved.
The servant of the Jones family applied medicine on Fiona’s wounds, but the pain in her flesh wouldn't stop. She carefully put on her clothes. At that moment, Calum knocked on the door and came in.
He also changed into clean clothes. Presumably, his wounds had been treated, and he didn't seem to have any major problems.
"Fiona, the wound must be very painful. It's all my fault. I was only thinking of giving Megan a decent proposal and forgot how terrifying Grandpa's rage was. I also got you injured."
Today, Calum proposed. He bought all the advertising electronic screens in Heliafield and broadcast the proposal process live.
It was so high-profile that it was hard for Sir Jones not to know.
"It's okay. It's just a small wound. It'll be fine in a couple of days. Don't worry about it." Fiona said with a smile on her fair and pure face.
Somehow, Calun felt a mixture of feelings arise in his heart as he looked at her.
Suddenly, Calum asked, "Fiona, do you really love me?"
