2025-02-06 23:30:20“Thank you.” Caterina handed Alex back the car keys. She smiled slightly at him, then left for the room where her father was being treated. Even at first glance, Alex could tell that Caterina was upset. Her face was grim with her lips curled.
Alex followed behind. He wanted to know what was going on. Caterina should have gone home feeling a little happy that she could get out of the mansion. At least her tangled mind could be a little fresher.
“What's wrong?” Alex asked softly.
“That bastard follows me everywhere I go. He's always looking for trouble.” Caterina replied in a tone full of annoyance.
“Leo?” Alex asked for confirmation. Caterina began to be reluctant to mention Leonardo's name because her hatred for the man was at the highest level. Let alone meeting him, just mentioning his name made her feel reluctant.
“Who else?” Caterina replied indifferently. She opened the door to her father's room, went inside, and started mixing the medicine before he woke up and took it.
“Maybe he just wants to make sure you're okay.” Alex followed, trying to calm Caterina down.
“If he wanted me to be okay, he shouldn't have followed me around like a fugitive. All my movements are being watched; it's very uncomfortable.”
“I understand.” Alex seemed to be getting resigned to Caterina's words. If he forced Caterina to understand more, Caterina would be even more rebellious.
Caterina began to clean her father's body with a damp cloth. She cared for her father with great care, something a child should do for a sick parent.
“I'm going abroad. It might take me a week or maybe a month. I don't know; I might be there for a year. It depends on how fast I find Ben.” Alex said it as if he was saying goodbye.
Caterina stopped rubbing her father's body after she heard Alex's words. She paused, looking quite shocked. Her eyes showed that she wasn't ready to hear that sentence. If Alex left, she would have no friends here. Who would help her if she needed help? Who would defend her if she and Leonardo had another fight? Who would be there for her when she needed a friend?
Moreover, Alex said his timing was unpredictable. A week without Alex here would be very difficult for her. Especially if he was gone for a year.
“If I forbid you, will you still go?” Caterina asked in a trembling voice. She didn't want to turn her head to look at Alex.
No one knew what Ben was doing abroad. It was possible that he had joined a more ruthless mafia organization back home. If that were the case, Alex's life would be in danger. Especially if he was killed in a foreign country. Maybe his body would be hidden by the enemy and never return.
Alex smiled when he heard that sentence. It was a sign that Caterina was worried about him. He was happy to know that at least Caterina considered his valuable even as a friend.
“I'll be fine, so you don't have to worry. Just pray for me.” Alex said with great tenderness. He tried to be reassuring.
“What if you never come back?”
“Do you think I'm that weak?”
Caterina was silent.
“I'm glad you're worried about me; it means you care about me.”
“Of course I care about you; you're my friend. You were always there when I needed your help.” Caterina turned to stare. Her eyes looked teary. She was holding back tears at the thought of Alex dying in a foreign land.
Alex smiled slightly.
“Would you also be worried if Leo left?” Alex asked with mixed feelings. He wanted to know how special he was in Caterina's heart.
Caterina snorted in annoyance.
“I don't care what happens to that bastard. How many times have I told you, please don't ever mention his name again?” Caterina said with annoyance.
Leonardo, who was standing behind the door, could only remain silent when he heard Caterina's conversation with Alex. He felt a pain in his chest when he knew that now Caterina really didn't love him anymore. He had missed many opportunities that Caterina had given him. Now he regretted that he had missed her love.
If time could be repeated, Leonardo would never make the mistake that made Caterina hate him half to death. If he could go back in time, he would welcome Caterina's love in the sweetest way.
