Chapter 4

“100,000?” Charlotte almost threw up the ice tea that she ordered after hearing the salary that I have. She seems stunned, just like me. Until now, I can't believe that I'm gonna earn a hundred thousand each month.

It seems like God just pulled me from this poverty all of a sudden.

“See? This is a jackpot, Charlotte!” I even slammed the table. My eyes were probably sparkling because of that huge amount.

“Of course! I should have applied there instead. If only I knew that they are offering that huge,” she said and tilted her head with regret.

I glared at her. “You don't need that. My salary is just a piece of coins to you,” I shook my head. Both of our lives are totally different. She was born in a huge mansion, while I was born and got abandoned.

“Who's your boss again? I'm only paying my secretary 50,000 each month,” she uttered unbelievably, still in awe. Girl, who will not be in awe? I can't even process everything in my head yet.

“We had a deal though,” I mentioned, now I remember that easiest deal again.

*Flashback*

“You cannot quit, unless I fire you.” I couldn't move my eyes on a piece of paper in front of me.

“Are you sure that it is your condition?” I asked again to assure that it is really what he wants.

Why? Because it's so freakin’ easy. Does he think that I will quit this job? Over my dead body. Who will quit with a hundred thousand of salary? I would rather work here for the rest of my life until I get rich. Who am I to even demand and complain? I didn't even finish college and yet I was chosen.

“Yeah. Unless you're expecting something?”

I swear, that smile made me gulp. He just gave me a playful smile.

“Of course not. I don't plan on quitting though,” I uttered.

“Then, sign the paper. You're gonna pay me a lot if you break our deal.” He heaved a sigh and that sly smirk didn't escape from my eyes.

I simply tilted my head. I don't see anything wrong with it. Besides, I'm gonna earn a lot. That's what matters to me the most.

“Sure,” I replied and happily signed it.

“That's it? Are you serious?” Charlotte chuckled unbelievably.

“Yeah. It's so easy right? I will never quit this job, I swear.” I even raised both of my hands.

“You know what, I don't know what kind of boss you have. But he's like an angel to me right now,” she blew out a sigh and chuckled as she held my hands on the table.

“I'm happy for you, Dahlia.”

I paused as she smiled at me softly. For over the years that I was all alone, Charlotte is the biggest blessing that I ever had. She never leaves my side and she was always there for me whenever I needed her. I might not have a family, but Charlotte is like a sister to me already.

“I owe everything to you. You always help me,” I smirked.

“Of course not. You owe everything to yourself. You're the one who got the job by yourself, I didn't help you, Dahlia. Take the credits to yourself,” she then smiled extensively.

After meeting Charlotte in the cafeteria of the company, I headed back to the office again. When I came there, the employees were murmuring something again that is probably about me. Their eyes on me are enough to confirm that they were talking about me. I don't why they are being like this. It seems like I won't have a friend here.

I froze and my brows crossed when my supposedly table was not in front of Mr. Cohen's office. So, I immediately barged inside.

“Excuse me, Mr. Cohen. But where is my desk outside? I don't see it anywhere,” I mentioned when I found him busy on his computer. His eyes shifted to me, which made my heart almost jump for unknown reasons.

He pointed something to me with his pen. I was a bit confused until I saw what he was pointing at. My lips parted in secrecy when I saw my desk there. All my things are also there.

“I told them to put it inside,” he replied.

“Why?”

Do I really have to work with him in one room? For some reason, I felt awkward working with him in the same room. Oh god, I preferred working outside than here.

“You're my secretary. You should always be around me,” he said and shrugged before he went back to what he was doing. He has a point though.

I was left there stunned. It even took me a moment before I had the courage to go to my desk. I even bit my lower lip when I saw the view in front of me; it's Mr. Cohen. Good thing he's freakin’ handsome.

“By the way,” I wished that the earth ate me alive right now. He just caught me looking at him! Why would he look at me all of a sudden when I was also looking at him?! Fvck. He might think that I'm enjoying the view for god's sake!

I quickly moved my eyes away from him, especially when I saw him smirking. Why is he smirking, huh?

“Shit,” I mumbled and firmly closed my eyes.

“You can sell the appliances if you don't want them,” my eyes twinkled just like that as I gave my eyes back to him after the embarrassing moment.

“Really? I can sell it?” I can now smell tons of money. Those are all branded and new. I'm sure I'll make a lot with that!

The drawn smile on my lips faded when I saw him laugh and shake his head after. It's my first time seeing him laugh. He has been cold, tough and weird. Did he realize that I desire money so much? I smirked and shook my head.

“Well, you said it doesn't fit your place and you don't want me to buy you a huge plac—”

“Because it is not your responsibility to do that. It's so much, Mr. Cohen.”

“Call me Sean,” he said all of a sudden.

I mean, how can I call him by his name? He's my boss.

“Mr. Cohen, I can't just drop—”

“Drop the formalities. Only you can call me by my name in this company,” which made me even more confused.

Why would he want me to call him by his name? Since he hired me, he has been weird to me. Even everyone in this company. They have been all acting weird to me and I don't even know the reason why.

That was the last conversation that we had for this day. Sean became busy at work and I kept bringing papers on his desk. I don't hear anything but him, talking to different people on the phone.

“Why are you bringing Celeste here?” My fingers paused from typing when I heard him mention his ex fiancé’s name on the phone. I secretly glanced at him and he was facing the view outside from the transparent mirror behind him. I even saw his jaw clenched and I could tell that he didn't like to hear his dead fiancé’s name.

I couldn't help but to wonder what kind of pain he has been through.

“It's a business. She has nothing to do with this,” this time, his voice was colder and firmer.

I quickly looked away and pretended that I was not listening at all when he suddenly faced me. I don't care what happened to them. All I care about is earning, that's all. I should not meddle in any of his business.

“Dahlia,” he called.

I felt like my entire body froze the moment he called me. Did he catch me glancing at him when he mentioned Celeste?

“Mr. Cohen, I swear I was not lis—”

“I told you to call me Sean, just Sean.” He emphasized. My jaw was left hanging.

“Well, I was not listening. Please, don't fire me,” I almost begged. You piece of shit! Why would you act so obviously? I just got hired and it seems like I'm getting fired that early.

The storms in my head calmed when he chuckled.

“Who said that I'm firing you?”

Have you ever seen a beautiful smile? Because I did. He captured my eyes when he flashed that smile at me. It was a genuine smile that captivates me in one glimpse of it.

“It will never happen, Dahlia.” He added.

“Y-Yeah,” I was not into myself yet. I just realized that he was already in front of me when he said that.

“Can you buy me some food downstairs? Buy your food as well, just tell my name to them.” He said before he marched back to his desk.

Pull yourself together, Dahlia. What are you doing, huh?

“W-What do you want?”

“You decide,” he replied and went back to his phone.

I quickly left to get some food. Was I hypnotized by his smile? Fvck, I felt like I lost my mind for a moment.

“Uh, two sandwiches and two iced americano for Mr. Cohen,” I said to the woman in the cashier.

“Oh, for Mr. Cohen? Right away!” She exclaimed and quickly prepared the food I ordered. His name is like a credit card. Just by saying it, you can buy everything you want.

“Here,”

“Thanks!” I exclaimed and came back quickly to the office with a proper mind.

“I got you a sandwi—” I paused immediately when I found him asleep already on his swivel chair.

He looked exhausted. It seems like he isn't able to get a good sleep because of work. I went closer to him in front of his desk, trying not to create any noise that would wake him up as I put down the sandwich and the iced coffee.

“Celeste,” I froze.

I glanced at him after that. It seems like he was dreaming.

“Sean,” I called nervously.

“Mr. Cohen,” I called for the second time and went to him.

I was startled when he suddenly grabbed my hand as soon as his eyes opened as well. My eyes widened with anxiousness. I was able to breathe properly when he woke up.

“Celeste,” he mumbled.
