Chapter 7

Just when things were getting intense, my phone suddenly rang.

"Who's calling?" Sylvia asked.

"It's Kathleen. I don't know why she's calling," I replied.

"Then answer it," Sylvia urged.

I felt it was inappropriate, but I still followed Sylvia's suggestion and answered the call. "Hey, honey. What's up?"

"Didn't you just ask what I was doing? What's that noise I'm hearing?" Kathleen sounded concerned.

It was the sound of Sylvia breathing heavily, so I quickly covered her mouth. She did it on purpose—she wanted Kathleen to hear.

"Oh, it's nothing. Someone was passing by as I was climbing the stairs," I explained hastily.

"I see. Well, I wanted to tell you that I was sleeping with your boss, Gordon." Kathleen openly admitted her infidelity.

"I can't believe you cheated on me!" I pretended to be furious.

"Hendrix, let's get a divorce. You can't perform your husbandly duties, and you don't earn enough. Being your wife has been nothing but hardship—"
