Chapter 3

Katherine's legs were shaking, and she was trying hard to remain calm. She pulled up her pant leg, and I did see a purplish-blue bruise on her knee.

"Be careful when you run next time. Don't hurt yourself," I reminded.

Kathleen smiled and replied, "Okay, darling. I'll be more careful from now on."

It seemed I was wrong and had been overthinking things. Kathleen was faithful to our marriage. How could she possibly betray me?

I realized that I had gone overboard with my intrusive thoughts. The more I thought about it, the more guilty I felt. I hadn't been able to satisfy Kathleen's needs. On top of that, I even doubted her.

"I'm going to shower now," Kathleen announced, walking past me with a giggle.

As she walked by, I caught a strange scent. It smelled like rubber, and it made me wrinkle my nose—it was similar to the smell of a sheath. I tried to reassure myself not to overthink it and repeatedly told myself that Kathleen wouldn't betray me.
