The Beginning

MATHIAS POV

I've been watching and following him for a month now, everytime I get close he disappears again. my frustration is growing, as is my thirst, I know I will have to feed soon, if I don't ill have no chance to kill him.

He's holed up in a sleazy motel in a tiny country town, I can hear his heartbeat slowing as he relaxes, falling into his sweet slumber.

Taking someone from this place to feed would be too risky, this means compelling someone to let me feed, and then forget.

I wait until night falls, the local hotel, a one storey quaint little place with a beautiful little garden out the back has country music blaring, I can't stand the sound but I know what I have to do. This back alley is dark and wet but I have no problem seeing in the dark, my biggest issue is feeding from someone who has been drinking excessively, the alcohol gets into their system and makes a vampire tipsy drinking from them.

I keep my eyes on the back of the hotel waiting for someone to sneak out the back. it's pitch black out here now and im in all black so I know once I have my victim I will be fine in the dark as long as I can keep them quiet.

Five hours pass and I can hear the rowdiness of the hotel starting to wind down as people head home. I wait for my chance, seeing someone coming through the garden toward the back gate. I wait, watching as the brunette with the little red dress, high heels and way to much perfume comes straight toward me. when she gets to where I am hiding, I give her a couple of seconds to pass me that's when I strike.

I grab her, one hand around the waist, one hand clamped over her mouth. I drag her into the vacant paddock behind the hotel where I turn her around, my hand still firmly over her mouth and stare into her big brown eyes "I am going to bite your neck, I am going to drain some of your blood and you will love it, but you will stay very quiet" I say compelling her.

I release my fangs and bite her soft perfect neck draining almost half of her blood, she tastes so sweet like brown sugar and honey, I bite my wrist and feed her my blood to heal her neck "you walked out the back of the hotel, tripped going through the fence and passed out in the paddock" I compell her, then I vanish from her sight.

It's almost midnight as I head back to the motel, the moon is full and high in the sky, the motel is small and disgusting, I've heard these kinds referred to as a flea bag motel, never really understood why.

The motel is surrounded by trees and bushes, perfect to blend in, suddenly I realise the familiar scent of tobacco and rum has faded, "oh shit no" I say to myself before sneaking around the back of the motel. I squeeze through the bathroom window this idiot left open, and quietly peek into the room. FUCK!!!....He's gone.

TANSIA POV

I've been running for days now, but it feels like weeks, I have to keep moving, I have to get away.

It's been four days since they found us, my mother told me to go, to run and never look back, leaving her was the last thing I wanted to do but I knew why they were there, i knew they were going to kill my parents and me for being the abomination they claim we are.

See my mother was a shifter, a wolf to be exact. My father was a vampire, some believe you should only mate with your own kind, my parents believed in the mate bond.

My mother was exhiled from her pack, my father from his coven, that was fine, they were forgotten, until they had me... That's when the council decided they had to destroy me.

I have always been aware of what I am, half wolf half vampire, a hybrid as my mother called me, I know the powers I could possess, i got my wolf, Nova at 16, but until I'm 18 I won't fully know my power.

My birthday is in two days, I need to hide until I get my full strength, then I will get my revenge, I will kill all that were involved, first I need to survive.

I stumble out of the trees catching myself before I fall, I see a small town a disgusting motel sits before me on the edge of town, the rest of the town behind. I catch a hint of the most amazing smell, eucalyptus and peppermint. it's very faint but it's there. MATE!!! I have to find him, I have to know who he is.

I need to eat, I can survive on blood, animal or human, or their flesh, I can also eat normal human food, but I don't want my presence known.

A small town like this I would stick out like a sore thumb. I have fire engine red hair, freckles and im slim standing at 5ft 6in I've always been a firecracker and my temper is hard to control.

I need to stay hidden. I circle the town, it's surrounded by trees, so it's easy to hide, I don't see anyone out but it is 12.30am. I keep to the treeline, looking for anyone I can feed on.

I need to get someone quickly and quietly, my father told me about compulsion but I've yet to master it so I'll have to hide a body until I can get away. I always try to pick someone who won't be missed but in a small country town that's not going to happen.

I spot a woman, in a vacant paddock, passed out I assume she is drunk, I can't smell blood so she's not injured, she looks pretty, brunette with a little red dress, one shoe is missing, the other a black high heel.

If I'm going to do this I'm going to need Nova to take control. "Nova, we need to do this quietly, take her into the woods, if she makes a noise, tear her throat out" Nova stirs in my head "a bit excessive don't you think?" "I know but we can't get caught, this town is too small not to notice" I reply.

I relax and let Nova take control, my bones break and distort, turning me into the beautiful red wolf that is Nova. The first time I shifted was the most painful thing I've ever experienced but it doesn't hurt anymore.

Nova scans the area to make sure no one else is around and expertly grabs the unconscious woman throwing her onto her own back and speeds back into the forest, "make it quick, don't make her suffer" I tell Nova.

When we are far enough that no one can hear if this woman screams, Nova shakes her off her back and gives me back control. The woman is still sound asleep, I undress her, i need her dress, as mine tore when i shifted, i bite her neck and drain as much blood as quickly as I can.

I bite my wrist and put it to her mouth just so she heals and no one knows she was killed by a vampire, I then get Nova to dig a hole, bury her and put her dress on.

This is it, I need to find my mate, I head back toward the town and pick up his scent, following it away from the town. I travel until dawn, I'm getting tired, I need to rest, but Nova is getting antsy, this tells me my mate is near, she is running circles in my head.
