Lune woke up the next morning with a heavy weight in her chest. For a few seconds, she lay still, staring up at the ceiling, her body wrapped in the warmth of the bed. Everything felt eerily calm, but then the memories of last night began to flood back, and the sharp ache of betrayal settled in her heart.

She squeezed her eyes shut, willing herself to forget, to make it all disappear, but the image of Valeria on Arlo’s legs—their closeness, the way they had looked together in the darkened hallway—was still burned into her mind.
