GAIA

I opened the door and entered his room, the light from the candles illuminating his dark room.

Bella turned on the lights and we began to sing happy birthday to him. He was fully awake now, a small smile on his face even though it was very obvious that he was confused about what was going on.

Bella and I finished singing that song and dropped the cake on his lap to make a wish.

”Blow out your candles and make a wish!”

As he closed his eyes and put his hands together, I watched my little baby that I'd given birth to a few years back as he was already such a grown boy. My Juan was six already and it didn't feel real. It was like time was taking him away from me and I wanted him back.

“Happy birthday, my lovely boy. I'm so proud to be your mother and I love you so much, you have no idea. You're the best thing I've ever done and I hope your days are filled with laughter and you never have to cry. I love you, Juan.”
