Pierre Paul Abutu gives a humorous, fascinating and dispassionate narration of the unique intimate and romantic events of his life from teenage to adolescence, and into the early stages of his adult life. This narration revolves around the lives, and relationships of sixteen ladies with whom he shared happy, intimate, eventful and evergreen moments of his life with. These love affairs occur in Pierre Abutu’s life, at his university, the Augustine Nnamani Campus, Agbani, in Enugu Campus of the Nigerian Law School, Akwa Ibom State and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Due to his religious beliefs, personal convictions, personal principles, metaphysical and supernatural predictions and postulations, the media, intellectual and literary effects in his life, most of these affairs either ended abruptly or amicably. These love affairs also reveal the negative attitudes, traits and deceptive machinations of these girls and ladies. Even though certain unpleasant and resultant effects were never intended at any particular stage, or with any of these girls and ladies, one thing was very clear: each love affair was and would always be evergreen to Pierre Abutu.

CHAPTER TWO

My party soon departed for the Attah of Igala’s palace after I’d completed my registration and settled down in the school. They were boys, girls, men and women from diverse backgrounds in my college. My mum’s warning and counsel kept ringing in my ears whenever I thought of talking to or approaching a girl. Sometimes, I felt my dopamine levels were low or were not yet alive / active. I soon realized that I easily befriended and trusted the opposite sex more the boys (guys).Although I’d been a lone wolf from childhood, I knew I couldn’t afford to enter adulthood without acquainting myself with ‘certain things’. I can still remember the names of some girls back then in my Year One (100 level) – Linda, Seghosime, Doyin, Precious, Timi, Emem, Aanu, Paula, Maryam, Halimat, Ore, and Timi. They were a host of several others whose names I can’t remember. I saw all these girls (female course mates), as my ‘sisters’ and friends. Subsequently, I couldn’t and did not develop any (intimate) feeli

CHAPTER THREE

CHAPTER THREEI continued walking until I arrived at the entrance of the Old Girls Hostel. They were several huts adjacent to the entrance of the Old Girls Hostel. They were called huts even though were made of concrete, corrugated iron sheets and wood. They were circular in design, and had two passages. Each hut could comfortably sit up to twenty adults and contain twenty-five more standing.I sat in an empty hut and waited for Bussy to arrive. I was wearing a blue casual cotton long-sleeved shirt and a pair of black trousers. I didn’t fancy wearing wristwatches for any particular reason, even though my mum had purchased several Rado, Rolex and Omega wristwatches for me. The weather was cool, and the tree branches danced in the evening breeze. My feet felt free in the pair of black leather slippers I was wearing. It felt better than wearing black leather boots and cover shoes from Monday to Friday..I remember fumbling with my GSM Mobile phone for a couple of minutes before Bussy app

CHAPTER FOUR

I was about to say something when Bussy suddenly pulled my head closer with her left hand and kissed me with all her might.“Third hut… 7pm”. She turned and walked three steps, before winking at me again. The way Bussy carried the package I gave her and her handbag, made me think she must’ve been a model at some point in her life.Bussy walked towards the field facing the administrative block to get a bus that would transport her to Old Girls Hostel. There was no gainsaying the fact that I’d fallen for her. It was happening very fast. I stood there rooted to the spot as students walked around where I stood in all directions. They paid me no attention, due to the scorching Okada weather. The latter made everyone (especially the students), to always be in a hurry. I smiled and clutched the handle of my black bag, before walking to a nearby snack bar. I knew I couldn’t afford to breathe a word of what was happening to my mum. Maybe love was slowly developing between us, or maybe we were

CHAPTER FIVE

Funny roommates you got there, Bussy”.“I really enjoyed today… oh my God”. Let me no shout… the way you kiss me, it’s like I’m being kissed by a god.“I’m glad you love it Bussy. Let me leave you to sleep…”“Make sure you dream of me, Pierre… and no other girl”.“I have eyes for only you, Bussy”.“Aww, I love you so much Pierre, I really do”.“Sweet dreams, my love”.After ending the phone call, I was sipping some water, and found it difficult to sleep. Thoughts of Bussy flooded my brain like the Niagara Falls. I didn’t care much about her height, because as far as I was concerned, she was simply perfect and portable for me. Bussy, Bussy, Bussy, was the only thing I thought of and imagined. At that moment, I could sincerely and confidently say that I was in love – with Bussy/The love between I and Bussy blossomed as the weeks and months went by. My mom knew nothing about it, but sometimes reminded me of my childhood ‘crushes’ in Zurich and Berne. On one occasion, she informed me tha

CHAPTER SIX

“Many of them, who’ve been sexually active from High School, come here and meet a decent guy. Afterwards, they’ll cook up a story that they were molested at a younger age…”“And then what?” I whispered impatiently.“And according to them, that is the reason they aren’t virgins. The icing on the cake is joining a Christian fellowship or any other religious outfit on campus, and becoming holier than thou”.“Jesus Christ”. My blood went cold as a younger lady appeared and cleared the empty malt beverage bottles, aluminium foils and plastic trays on our table.“Does that mean that Bussy… no, it can’t be…”“I’m not saying anything about your Bussy, but keep what I’ve said at the back of your mind. The girls here just wanna have fun at the expense of the guys. They are not ready to be with a poor, broke, or financially struggling student in the name of love. If you wanna love, my Crown Prince, please wait till you’re out of here”.“Have you ever been in love before, Asha?”“I have… and it w

CHAPTER SEVEN

I turned and faced Aurelia, eyeball to eyeball. Law students kept moving back and forth. Our lecture hall seemed to be the only hall that was currently occupied.“What are you driving at, Aurelia?”She didn’t answer immediately, but swiped furiously on the screen of her large Blackberry mobile phone, until she suddenly stopped.“Just swipe right”. Aurelia whispered and handed her Blackberry mobile phone to me. I received it from her gingerly, and she turned her face away, while moving her knees rapidly. The pictures I beheld afterwards made me lose my appetite for the rest of that day. The hot weather suddenly became chilly for me. I felt like the only person in the Oba Erediauwa College of Law. The only sounds I could hear were the cooing sounds of the birds who dotted the flowers in the centre of the law college. Slowly and painfully, Asha’s voice began to ring in my ears. I continued swiping rightwards and didn’t notice as some exhaustion-ridden course mates of mine began to trickl

CHAPTER EIGHT

Memories of Bussy were slowly fading from my mind as academic activities continued in the semester. Out of curiousity one certain day, I left my hostel and headed for a cultural event which was organised by the Delta State Students Association. The said event was slated for a Saturday, and I made up my mind to attend it. They were quite a number of students in my class who hailed from Delta State, and most of them were present at the event. They were dance troupes, masquerades, traditional fashion display, cuisine exhibition, meet and greet and announcement of the incoming and outgoing exco members. It was an interesting event and I caught Aurelia laughing heartily at the event. The cultural event extended into the night, and I decided to leave the venue. Some metres from the field, I saw two chocolate-skinned girls trudging across the field. I hurried towards them, and waited until one of them left the former and exited the large field. I caught up with the lone girl seconds later and

CHAPTER NINE

“I promise never to leave you or break your heart, Elo”. I was surprised when she wiped a tear off her right eye.“What is it, Elo? Please stop crying”.“I’m not crying, just feeling a surge of emotions. I know you’re a nice guy, but please, if you’re gonna hurt me, do not let me know, okay?”“Elo, come on, look at me… I’ll never hurt you, okay?” She soon pulled out her mobile phone from her trouser pocket and swiped while she sniffled.“Here Pierre, have a look”. Elo handed me her mobile phone, before looking downwards. I took her phone and stared at her former boyfriend’s Facebook page. He was kissing, cuddling and playing with a red-haired Scottish girl in the snow. He was almost as tall as me, and the Scottish girl seemed really happy to be with him.“He left me for Gwendolyn Wallace. No goodbye, no break up, no apology… nothing”.I turned the mobile phone over, until the LCD lights went out. I gently handed the mobile phone to Elo and shook my head at what I just read and heard.

CHAPTER TEN

“I hope you like the soup, Pierre?”“Like? I love it, Elo. Where did you learn to cook like this?”“ Well, practice makes perfect, and I spent a lot of time with my mum, Aunts and grandmothers whenever they were cooking”.“I didn’t know fish could taste so good in vegetable”.“Stock fish, crayfish and smoked fish… with the chicken of course”. Elo’s countenance suddenly developed a sad look, as she swallowed a small morsel of garri.“What is it Elo. Did I say or do something offensive?”“No, not all, it’s just that you… well, I would be graduating next year and you’d still be here…”“Come on… brighten up. It’s still a long time away. We’ll keep in touch at every available moment. Please, smile a bit. I hate seeing you sad, baby”.A grin gradually developed on Elo’s face, before picking up a piece of smoked fish from the bowl of soup. She placed it between her teeth, leaving a considerable part exposed and managed to speak.“Come and take”, she managed to say.Slowly, I held onto the ex
