I could not believe what I was seeing. The man, who left the hospital, without even informing anyone came back after two weeks. At my house, in front of me.
“You…”
“Ms. Serena! I’m sorry for leaving without informing you.” He apologized. “I had some work to take care of.”
Even though I was raging, I simply nodded my head. I could not get into fights with elders.
“How do you know my place? And, how do you know about me?”
“I have gathered your details from the hospital staff. I have connections.” He winked.
When I didn’t reply to him, he said “I think you are so angry at me. Can’t you forgive, thinking of me as your father?”
Father?
I knew it was just a word that slipped out of his mouth and it meant nothing to him but it made me smile a little.
I shrugged my shoulders, saying “Fine! That’s okay. You must be having your reasons but it would have been nice if you have at least left a message.”
“I apologize again.” He said and became silent for a few seconds. “Well… I am here to return your money. For hospital fees, medicines…”
“No. That’s fine. You don’t have to.” I said.
I might be facing money issues and crying for spending it on a stranger but I could not take back something that I have given to others or spent on someone.
“Please!” he insisted, taking out the money from his wallet. “This is the least I can do for what you have done for me. Don’t reject it. I will feel bad.”
Even though I was rejecting it, he couldn’t stop paying me and I finally gave in.
“I’m sorry I didn’t even ask you to come in. Please, come inside.” I invited him.
He sat on the couch and I offered him the snacks. He asked “How did you know about my name and age? I saw it in the hospital form. Those details about me were true.”
“There was an identification proof in your belongings.”
“Oh yes!” He laughed. “I forgot about that.” Then he asked “It seems you stay alone. What about your family?”
“I don’t have a family,” I said in a casual tone as I didn’t want to make myself look pathetic. “What about you Mr. Otis? What do you do?” I asked without giving him the time or chance to pity me.
“I used to work as a travel agent but now, I am a helper in a veterinary hospital. All my kids are well settled and I live here alone.”
“Oh! That’s great.” I replied. “How’s your hand?” I asked, looking at the hand covered with bandages. “You should take good care of it.”
“Don’t worry. I’m fine. It's almost healed."
For the few minutes we talked, he made me feel so comfortable. It would have been so nice if I had a father or at least a guardian like him.
“Let’s meet again someday. I’ll treat you to lunch.” He said before leaving.
“Sure.” I smiled.
New relationships might not be bad. Especially when we get the warmth that we needed from someone.

“Really? The one about whom you told me before? That handsome I*******m guy?” Mira asked, excited.
I nodded. “Yes! He said he’ll be here in a few days.”
“Serena! Don’t miss this opportunity. He is coming into your life again. Think of it as the second chance.”
"Come on, that was just a teenage crush. Now… I don’t know if I have feelings for him.” I shrugged.
“Those feelings come rushing back once you see him. I’m telling you, if he has no girlfriend, you better make a move. Or you’ll lose him again.”
Her words made me think about him and I found myself blushing after imagining him with me. “Ah! Let’s see once he comes here.”
I cut her off when she was about to speak about him again and walked away from her. Taking the flowers in my hands, I inhaled the scent of lilies before I put them in a flower vase. Their natural aroma was always refreshing.
As I kept arranging the flowers, I noticed Emma coming towards me, and it took me no longer than a minute to understand she was going to assign me another work.
“Serena!” she stood beside me. “The location is shared with you. Please deliver the black roses bouquet to the location.”
I was appointed as the decorator but she always made me do the works, which used to be done by others.
“But Jasper…”
“Jasper is on leave today and others are so busy. You can take a day off after you deliver them.” She said. “Anyhow, you don’t have any work today.”
I didn’t speak anything as I could be able to take the day off after delivering it.
I got the bicycle, thanks to Mira, who was into so much fitness. Taking her bicycle keys, I left for the location.
I parked it outside of the duplex and entered inside after I was checked by the security guards. The building was so huge with a giant entryway. It had a big garden area with a fountain at the center of it. I rang the bell even though the door was wide open. I waited for a few minutes but I got no response.
“Sir! Madam! Anyone here?” I shouted.
A man, who seemed to be a gardener, came towards me. He asked me to wait for a few minutes after saying he’d inform his master. As I needed to know the OTP, I waited for him.
I walked towards the garden area which caught my attention. Everything was trimmed and maintained perfectly. I wondered why someone ordered black roses when the garden area was filled with many colorful flowers.
On the backside, there was a big swimming pool, which would look like heaven for swimmers.
I took out my cell phone from my pocket to take the picture of the area as I loved it so much. After making sure no one was there, I started to click the pictures until I heard the voice “What are you doing?”
My eyes widen and when I was about to turn around, the slippery floor of the pool edge made me fall into the water.
"No!” I shouted as the flower bouquet fell into the water along with me and my cell phone fell to the ground.
I came out of the water, taking deep breaths, and I saw the feet of a man in front of me. I raised my head to see him crossing his arms over his bare chest and looking at me with his raised eyebrows.
“H-Hayden?”
Again. I saw him again. The shirtless, muscular man in front of me was Hayden, and the funniest thing was I came to deliver flowers to him. “Care to explain what you are doing here?” He asked in his usual serious tone. “You are taking pictures. Who the hell are you? Are you spying on me?” I let out a sigh after hearing him. There we go again, him and his narcissistic self. “Instead of helping me, you are posing questions. Do you think so highly of yourself? I’m not here to spy on you, I’m not your fan girl.” I rolled my eyes. “I came here to deliver your black roses.” “And, where is my bouquet?” he asked, crouching down. I bent my head down and mumbled “It fell into the pool.” Through the corner of my eyes, I saw him extending his hand. “Come out of the pool.” “No!” “Why? Do you like my swimming pool this much?” “I am drenched,” I shouted, frustrated. Then I noticed him walk towards the sun lounger and took the towel that was on the seat. He put it on the ground and turned b
SERENA Wow! Interesting wall. No, no, interesting vase. The color, the shape… Don’t speak. “Fuck!” I let out a sigh as I couldn’t get deviated from his thoughts despite how much I tried. That moment was still playing in front of my eyes, the way he held me and looked into my eyes. “What are you thinking about?” Mira asked, standing beside me. “About the arrival of your childhood love?” “Mira!” She wiggled her eyebrows. “Not him…” I pressed my lips together. “There was this guy… a mysterious one…” I saw her getting excited. “And…?” “And nothing.” I laughed. “He was different. Whenever we met, we always quarreled. That arrogant jerk…” “Are you changing the hero of your story? Or what?” she started to tease me. “No!” I made a proud face. “Because the hero of my story is myself.” I sold the last bouquet before I started to walk out. When I opened the door, I saw Mr. Otis in front of me. In his casual hoodie, spectacles, and a different hairstyle, I nearly couldn’t re
It was surprising to see him as he didn’t inform me beforehand. My lips curved up with a smile but I came back to my senses when I saw Eric struggling to catch his breath. “Who the hell are you?” Hayden growled. I held Hayden’s hand that was holding Eric’s throat and tried to free Eric while saying “Hayden, leave him. He is my friend.”Even after hearing me, Hayden gripped his throat for a few seconds and then he left him. Eric fell to his knees, coughing. I crouched down and patted his back, gently. “Eric, are you alright?” As he was still trying to catch his breath, I looked at Hayden and shouted “What have you done, Hayden!” “He’s lucky he’s still alive.” He mumbled. “Eric! I’m so sorry.” I held his face in between my palms. Finally, our gazes met after a long time. His chocolate brown eyes, which I always adored, made me smile. “Serena!” he spoke while standing straight. Then his gaze fell on Hayden, who looked unbothered even after what he had done. “Who is he?” “Who are
“Don’t you think this rose lipstick is weird on me?” I asked, looking at my reflection in the mirror. My long black frock, straightened hair, and high heels made me look different than usual. Despite how much Mira tried to make me beautiful, I was never satisfied. She did an amazing job with the makeup but something was lacking; confidence. I didn’t know why, I always felt I was abandoned because my face didn’t please my parents. It started from there. Every time people adopted my friends at the orphanage, my classmates got praised for how perfect they looked, all those little things somewhat increased my insecurity about my looks. “You look amazing,” Mira shouted, fed up with my doubts and questions. “Don’t think much.” She wrapped her arms around me, saying “Remember, you are going on a date. You better don’t ruin this makeup.” I was not sure why he asked me to go on a date with him, I didn’t even know what he meant by a proper date. Anyhow, I accepted as I wanted to spend time w
My eyes were wide open but all I could see was darkness and in it, I kept seeing Hayden. I could not forget the previous night's moments, especially the hug. I thought Eric would make that day special but Hayden came out of nowhere. Anyone could think I was overreacting but I was not. “I think you are planning to resign. You won’t even care about your superiors' words now.” I heard Emma that made me come out of my thoughts. “Sorry?” “I have been talking to you for the past five minutes. And, now you respond?” She shouted. I was zoned out. I didn’t listen to her. “Oh! I… I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to ignore you or something like that.” I apologized sincerely. She glared at me for a few seconds before saying "Arrange everything that we need for the evening’s event.” “Sure.” She rolled her eyes and walked to Jasper to assign work to him. I sat on the chair, letting out a sigh. Controlling myself from all the thoughts that were distracting me from doing my work, I started to take
Although we all received our payment, we were saddened as the event didn’t happen and our effort had gone to waste. No one could expect how death arrives. Who would expect a rich businessman would suddenly die of a heart attack in the middle of a birthday celebration? Apart from that, I couldn’t stop thinking about Hayden. His angry face, his punch, and the way he made the man kneel wouldn’t stop revolving in my head. It made me feel my life was valued and it was not worthless. His behavior overwhelmed me and I would never forget it. Also, I wondered if the client who was dead, was the one whom Hayden met in the hotel and the thought of Hayden might be saddened because of his death worried me so I texted him if he was fine. I kept looking at my cell phone, waiting for Hayden’s reply. Hayden – I’m alright. Why would I cry over his death? He replied to my text. It clarified me he was there to meet someone else. Knowing that Hayden was alright, I felt relaxed. We might not have had a
“A kiss.” I could hear my heart that was thumping so fast. The raise in my body temperature was evident to say my cheeks had turned red, even though I couldn’t see it. “W-what…” I stuttered. “One kiss, one piece of information.” He winked in a flirty way. I pushed him by his chest as he raised his hand to stroke my cheeks. He started to laugh as I shouted “You pervert!” He wouldn’t stop laughing while I threw daggers with my eyes. “Stop playing with me. I’m going to kill you.” “You should have seen your face.” He continued to laugh. As I kept glaring at him, he said “Oh, don’t be sad, if you want you can kiss me.” “Not kiss… I’m going to kill you.” I hit him with my elbow. Then we became silent and kept enjoying the view. As I looked at the water in front of me, I started to have a weird imagination of going on an Ocean trip that made me wonder if Hayden ever traveled by sea. I asked “Ever done sea travel?” I suddenly remembered how he never had the chance to enjoy himself at
What we see might not be true. Though I kept telling it myself, my brain and my heart already accepted the fact that Eric was kissing someone else; a girl, who looked so classy and elegant. Why did he raise my hopes when he wanted another girl? Or did we all were mistaken about his feelings for me? Many questions started to revolve in my head, for which, I had no answers. Suddenly, the girl pulled herself from him and slapped him which startled me. I hid behind the tree to hear their conversation, which was audible enough. She shouted, “Why did you kiss me?” I could see her wiping her tears. When Eric started to go towards her, she shouted again “Why are coming towards me? Aren’t you happy with Serena?” “Don’t blame me,” Eric shouted back. “You broke up with me. You said you wanted to move on.” “And you easily moved on, Eric. While I was thinking about how to get back with you, you were enjoying yourself with her.”“Stop it, Lia.” He grabbed her arms. “Do you know what I have gon
