Marcus
“Sir, the proxy has arrived.” An elegant yet masculine voice said to someone. Its tone was relaxed, yet sounded carefully aligned which make the person behind that voice sound easy to talk to.
“…Has he now?” Another voice appeared, a deeper tone with clear and prompt pronunciation. Clearly someone who is good at talking. Then silence. “…I’m not sure if I’m ready to meet him or not.”
“Even though you are the one who ordered us to bring him here?” The other voice countered with a guessing tone.
“I’m not sure. One moment, I really wanted to meet this person you spoke of, but the next moment, my hesitance clouds my confidence. I wasn’t even sure if he knows me.” The other guy’s tone answered reluctantly. Am I meant to know this guy or what? Because I never had a friend who worked in a fancy looking office building in the middle of the city. Heck, I don’t even think I have any adult friends, except my older family members.
“Well, if you are you, then I’m sure he would know right away.” I almost missed that last bit to my pondering. Shaking myself off from my thoughts, I returned to listening their conversation.
“I hope so.” Another pause. “Bring him in.”
After overhearing that brief conversation, because whether I like it or not, I am standing right in front of the door to the office, and whether I want to or not, my hearing became overly sensitive because I am fairly nervous right now and is particularly bored.
That’s why I’m commenting on their voices, when I normally don’t. Because, in general, who wants to eavesdrop on their conversation and creepily commented about things they spoke of?
My steps suddenly halted when I entered the room. Inside the office room, which, for some reason, felt familiar in my gaze, were two people of a completely distinguishable feature from one another. One person, who was standing beside a huge office table, was weaving a gentle yet business-like smile at me. I’m starting to think that elegance is his whole persona, because even though I could see that he is a bona fide guy, with well-built features and tall stature, his demeanour makes you think that he could make a girl swoon by just a glance.
Cat-shaped amber eyes and long shiny ashen grey hair. His skin tone makes him look Nordic, and that pair of golden thin-rimmed semi rectangular glasses didn’t lessen his essence.
“Welcome. I hope your journey here is comfortable.” He then smiled.
For a moment, I was in awe of his beauty, but the next moment, my jaw hung loose in pure surprise. Why does he looked like someone I know?
Wait.
I do know him!
“Rox?” I mindlessly blurted. That won a puzzled look from him, as he passed his gaze between me and the person who was sitting at the table.
“It’s me, Marcus.” I tried to introduce myself. Whoa. Rox would be a professional bipolar if he could change his attitude from that to his mean vampire vibe inside the dream. I pointed at myself. “Don’t you recognize me-” I immediately stopped when my eyes then slid towards the next person.
It was as if his hawk-shaped eyes were staring right through me. I wasn’t sure why, but the moment our eyes met, I instantly held in my breath. Raven slick hair and a dark red gaze. The other guy is the embodiment of dominance himself. Although I can say for sure that he wasn’t like the most Alpha of the Alphas I have seen in televisions.
“I don’t mind you glancing at my prized secretary,” He stood up. Wow damn, he’s taller than Rox. “But you’re ogling him too much.” He said and sauntered to the front of the table, before leaning his back against it.
“Oh, you jest, Master.” The secretary smiled curtly and bowed down his head a bit.
The elegant secretary and the dominant guy looked like they have a good relationship. They probably have had this kind of light-hearted interactions before, seeing as to how relaxed the two of them were.
“We have retrieved Marcus Collins, Master Brock.” The friendlier-looking bodyguard said. “Now if you would excuse us.”
“Thank you.” The elegant masculine guy said, while this person called ‘Master Tyler’ nodded at them. They then left.
The room went into silence after the door was shut.
For some unknown reason, I feel comparatively small compared to the two of them. Well, I still couldn’t escape the glamour that dominant guy gave me, so when he told me to sit on the sofa, I quietly followed his orders.
“So, what do you want to drink?” The one named Master Brock made himself comfortable on the sofa seat across me and crossed his legs over one another. Meanwhile, the secretary was standing a few feet away from him.
“M-Me?” I finally managed to somehow utter something. Fidgeting, I glanced at Rox at a longer duration than Master Brock. “I-I’m fine with anything, really.”
Master Tyler raised an eyebrow. “That would be a hard statement to guess.” Then he turned to Rox. “What is your guess on the best drinks to serve a young and youthful adult, Shaun?”
The secondary caned his chin and pondered. “There’s actually quite a lot of options to choose. Youths these days likes something that piques their interest in trying it rather than enjoying it. And it’s still warm despite the changing season being close by, so maybe a unique kind of smoothy?”
“Oh.” The two of them automatically casted their look on me. I was thinking that maybe I shouldn’t speak about anything at all.
“I…” I nervously swallowed. “I am… Quite different than most youths these days. True enough, I would like something refreshing due to the weather, but just commonly found smoothy is okay with me.”
It felt like my energy is slowly being drained out of me as I spoke. I’m not good with strangers, and if I were to interact with one for a long period of time, my social battery would run out for the day, and in some cases, I wouldn’t even get to play my VR game for the rest of the day.
Suddenly I heard a snicker. I turned to see Master Tyler smiling a bit at me, as he said, “You’re finally saying something.” Then he whisked his hand, motioning the secretary to come closer to him.
“Give this kid some boba milk tea. Brown sugar one, macha one, and thai milk tea one. For me, I would like a mocha smoothie with extra chocolate pieces, and you are free to choose any drinks you want to buy.” He reached his chest pocked and handed the secretary a black card. “Be safe out there.”
The secretary smiled at him as he nodded. That in itself made me shot a strange look towards the two of them.
I know I said that he was dominance, but what did I just see.
“Okay.” After his secretary had left, he shuffled on his seat and heaved a sharp sigh. “Shaun will take some time, so before that, I will brief on you what happened.” His tone turned serious.
“Oh.” I swallowed nervously.
Marcus“Before we jump into a more serious topic, my name is Tyler Brock. I am a reagent CEO for RoS Co., this company. Nice to meet you.” He reached out his right hand, probably requesting for a handshake. The moment he introduced himself to me with a friendly and genuine smile, the cold and ruthless image I had of him dispersed in a blink of an eye. He… Is strangely different. And although I was hesitating, I accepted his hand for a shake. “N-Nice to meet you too.” I stammered. After a few seconds of handshake, he then withdrew his hand, while still smiling at me. “Well then, you must have a lot of things to ask me. Ask away.”My eyelids twitched. What? Am I just to ask away like that? Nothing else? I have been waiting for this day to come where I can ask him all the questions lingering inside my head, but now I couldn’t seem to even utter one.Tyler must have realized the frown on my forehe
(Marcus’s POV)So uh… Apparently I learnt something new today. That is, to not eat three cups of instant noodle and passed out to bed. The reason I said this to, well, myself of course, was because of the fact, an odd fact, of me waking up in a forest in the middle of the night.Even a mentally unstable person know this isn’t the reality, but I was caught astounded. I am probably among those people who wished to have a lucid dream; experiencing the joy of gaining control inside your dream and do whatever you wanted for a short amount of time, everyone just needs that.Thought it’s not my wish to wake up inside a dark, gloomy, terrorizing and inaudibly suffocating forest with dead and living trees mixed together, disturbing my view. If I knew I were to get thrown inside a lucid dream this realistic and, well, filled nature, I would have opted to wear a more pleasantly suitable outfit rather than these white tank top and stripy shorts of m
MarcusAs far as I’m concerned, of my, well, sense of reality, I kept on feeling this strange surge of energy filling up every veins of my being. Was the effect of the blood crystal(Self proclaimed) be great after all? That vampire guy- I mean Rox, did say that it increased the health bar. But I didn’t expect for it to be connected with my health.Eh wait… So when he said I might die if I let the health bar drop, did he really mean it?Scary.Vampires are scary. But he’s not a vampire, probably, and getting scared when I am already obeying his plans and almost finished collectiing the crystal feels like it’s already too late.“Alright…” I hopped towards my last crystal and a BLING sound echoed through the grim forest just like a notification of a game, unless I’ve heard it for the 546th time already.“The path of rejuvenation is perilous…” I mumbled
Marcus’s POV The image of him cracked open his jaw and revealed a gruesome two pairs of canines shook me up from my sleep. Having to breathe slowly so I didn’t get hyperventilated, I picked up everything that has left out from me—my sanity, my sense of rationality, my stable breath, and my… blanket and pillow that I threw down to the floor upon waking up.Like an old man, I grumbled and stretched. Then, with an old man behavior, I scratched my back while lazily picked up all the clothes. And when I said old man, I literally mean my speech too.“Just who left their clothes sprawling across the room. Those shameless gnats…” I whined and picked the dirty clothes that was scattered on the floor of my bedroom.Well, I am shameless, and I am also the gnat. Because I was the one who scattered the clothes by myself after returning late
Marcus’s POV…is handsome.“That guy is handsome.” I stated. For a few moments, I managed to steer away Alphonso’s focus from the shoujo mange he was reading. He threw me a strange look.“What, are you gay?” His suspicion arise.I cracked a grin at him and shoved my lock screen image—which is an image of an anime fireman who’s smiling like a maniac as his feet caught in fire—to his view. Alphonso choked a surprised Oomph!“Does a male praising another male’s handsomeness counted as gay?” I then drifted my gaze to my lock screen and at the same time, remembered all the anime figurines of males I have stored in my work room.“Doesn’t that mean I am double gay?”“No…” Alphonso rubbed the tip of his nose that looks a bit red from my shoving. “If you liked that madman on your lock screen, you are not gay, you&rsq
Marcus’s POV“Ugh…” I moaned loudly, trying to fight the urge to throw up. The burning pain that spreads through my whole body now corroded my throat, urging me to let out all the things I have eaten. Given that I ate three portions of an unhealthy food, my barf won’t look beautiful.Or in summary, any barf won’t look beautiful.I guess the pain from the poisin do be taking effect on my brain. I can’t help cursing that vampire bastard for his rude behavior. I mean, he entered my lucid dream only to slowly kill me? What is he, a sadist? Moreover, he gave me a vague lead on everything that happens around me.What does he meant by monsters anyway? Was there really a monster in here?“Now that I think about it…” My voice croaked from the pain. The maximum amount of poison in my body—indicated by the unfaltering purple gauge that is still full—caused my health bar to deplete quite
Marcus“Acknowledge, huh…?” Was the first thing I croaked after waking up from my lucid dream. I was in pieces assuming that it’s all a dream—because my body feel okay despite being poisoned by a lethal poison—and a reality—because the King’s bite really did hurt like hell.I rubbed my neck after sitting up from the bed, glancing around the room randomly while looking at the objects including the VR headset that is charging on top of it’s charging spot. My eyes wandered off to the area near me, looking for the existance of an object that I aam pretty sure I received.“Ah, there it is.” I twisted my waist a bit to reach a new puzzle piece placed beside the bed. I don’t remember Rox giving me the piece, but I guess it’s like a game mechanism where you automatically get the item upon the completion of a mission.Sounds fun but last night was not fun at all.I glanced at the
MarcusIt’s been three weeks since that news, yet I still couldn’t get it out of my mind. I mean, the face of the CEO looks similar to the King inside the lucid dream the more I think about it. I tried to dispose it off as a mere coincidence, maybe the warehouse is coincidentally created similar to in real life, as dreams are a reflection of real life event and situations after all.But wait, by real event does that mean…“Aw heck!” I ruffled my bushy hair. This confusion makes me feel like running in circles, my mind is in a complete mess. I can’t even ask Rox for explanation as there were no more lucid dreams since the last time about three weeks ago.I then heaved a sigh and stood up from my bed. This is the weekend, and I just spend the first quarter of it overthinking things.Great.Deciding to finally ignore it, I sauntered to the kitchen and opened the fridge. I’ll make some pudding for mysel

Marcus“20…” My hand quaked. I don’t know why, but I seemed to have lost my ability to interact as an intelligent being, being a human as I am. The small joints of my fingers seemed to trembled endlessly, like I obtained Parkinson’s disease right after my eyes laid upon the amount in my bank account. If we were to ignore that six hundred dollars balance in my bank account, how many zeroes am I seeing?“One, two, three…” I began to remunerate the zeroes again. I was pretty sure I’ve counted the zeroes like more than a couple times already, but my common senses seemed to be unable to make sense of the amount I’m seeing.“Oh.” My fingers twitched at the fifth zero when a notification popped out on the screen stating ‘operation timeout’. I’ve been spending too much time counting I didn’t even notice I’ve been opening my bank app for too long while being idle.“20 million dollars…” My lips mumbled softly, slowly letting that fact sink in. How many figurines would I be able to buy with that
MarcusI could have sworn my bed was less soft than this. It feels like I was laying down on a smooth and fluffy cloud. I rolled a bit and stretched my body, with my eyes still closed. Huh, I guess I’ll just continue my sleep then.“You seem pretty complacent, little one.” A voice appeared from my right side.I opened my eyes rather slowly in response to that voice. Not that I was not surprised, it’s just I was rather annoyed when he called me right now. I mean, why must now?“…Rox.” My tone deepened in despise. The vampire quest giver raised one of his eyebrows, as if he was surprised, but smiling at the same time.“What is it?” I decided to sit up from laying down. Seeing his pale face instantly washed away all my fatigue. I didn’t mean it in a good way obviously.“I didn’t know that you could sound like that. Your voice is usually so… cranky, you know?&
Marcus Four from five days on weekdays, I would spend about three hours after classes to hone my martial arts skills. On Monday it’s judo, on Tuesday it’s boxing, on Wednesday it’s street boxing, and on Thursday it will be a lesson on weapon handling. I learned all those skills like I am out for a killing. But it’s true that I AM out to kill the monsters that chase me inside the maze. Rox never said that I should just run away from them, so I decided to fight. Running would be easy until at one point you were pushed onto a corner where your life and death is separated by a hair’s width. That’s why before that moment came, I’ll just prepare for the worst. “But that is too extreme for someone who said that they didn’t want to get bullied.” Alphonso retorted when he heard my idea of learning martial arts. “I mean, taking lesson for 4 self-defence skills all at once is ridiculous. It’s not like we are in an apocalypse.” He got a point. Though I don’t want to risk dying just because I a
Marcus I can remember vividly those jagged rows of yellowish, red teeth flashing at me. If not for the moves I remembered in one of those fighting games, and my will to live, I might have not survived if I were to be bitten by that. Though, I might have pushed myself too much during the previous level. Fighting while climbing up flight if stairs was a tough thing to do, especially when the monster that chased me is a spider type. Those spindly legs made of shiny metals could kill me in one fell swoop, but it's less terrifying compared to its face. About the description... I believe I have explained it above. After fighting for my dear life, my body aches all over when I wake up from my lucid dream. I never knew that physical capabilities are related between reality and dream. Though I heard somewhere that if you die in your lucid dream, you'll die in real life. I'll need to improve my stamina somehow. Which was why... I started personal stamina training on my own, while getting mys
