Marcus

“20…” My hand quaked. I don’t know why, but I seemed to have lost my ability to interact as an intelligent being, being a human as I am. The small joints of my fingers seemed to trembled endlessly, like I obtained Parkinson’s disease right after my eyes laid upon the amount in my bank account. If we were to ignore that six hundred dollars balance in my bank account, how many zeroes am I seeing?

“One, two, three…” I began to remunerate the zeroes again. I was pretty sure I’ve counted the zeroes like more than a couple times already, but my common senses seemed to be unable to make sense of the amount I’m seeing.

“Oh.” My fingers twitched at the fifth zero when a notification popped out on the screen stating ‘operation timeout’. I’ve been spending too much time counting I didn’t even notice I’ve been opening my bank app for too long while being idle.

“20 million dollars…” My lips mumbled softly, slowly letting that fact sink in. How many figurines would I be able to buy with that? Will I be able to fulfil my dream and go to Japan with that money? Will I be able to attend a cosplay event there?

My thoughts swirled and I gradually grinned. Not a great idea to suddenly grin in the break of dawn a few minutes after waking up, but all in all, I am deeply satisfied right now.

I just wish that there is a method for me to communicate with the King. I know that he is a CEO of a huge company, a whale among the fishes, if I may say in the nerdiest language I could pronounce, and it is almost impossible to communicate with him when you know you can’t even see him directly. To add, I figured out that I might be able to learn more about the CEO if I looked at the sender’s name, but even the name was labelled as private.

I heaved a sigh and massaged my lower jaw. Okay, that’s enough grinning for now, I have to get up and get ready to go to class. Boxing practice comes after that, so maybe I should bring a change of clothes or something? And some stick-on heat pads because even though autumn is less cold than winter but it is the same amount of hell as winter is.

I hopped off the bed after tossing the pillows to one side and straightening the comforter to at least look presentable and clean. Up until a certain point of life, you will experience the need to make sure that your bed is tidy. Primarily because if I didn’t clean the bed, I’ll find myself shrieking at the sight of cockroaches infesting my bed. This is definitely spoken by experience, and the size of American cockroaches are a no joke.

After strutting away from the bed, I peeked my head into the bathroom and reached the water tap to twist it open. While waiting for the hot water to fill the bathtub, I picked some ingredients from the fridge and the pack up my bags.

Now that I remember it, didn’t Rox said something about me having to commute from the uni? What did he mean by that?

“I mean, my house is literally fifteen minutes away from the uni by walking distance, so if he’s talking about me having to commute to uni everyday doesn’t seem to make any sense.” I monologued to myself while applying the foam from the bath bomb onto my arm. The lavender scent is quite nice to the nose. I’m lucky to listen to the store clerk about which bath bomb is the best to buy.

I continued on bathing until the last session, where I have to apply some oil to my skin. Damn, I’m slowly getting used to these beauty sessions since those lucid dreams started. I can’t help it, okay? Man, I feel like cursing when I remembered the event last night when Rox called me all of a sudden after not summoning me for so long. And that, was during the time where I decided to not do my skincare for the night.

But I’ll forgive Rox and the King because I just got some big buck in my bank. I won’t get questioned by the bank about my account balance, right?

After finishing my routine and eating breakfast, I was about to step out from my house when I finally realized that my body is not in pain.

“…Hm?” I patted my arms and chest, and also fumbled my back. I remember my back being the most painful spot among my entire body, yet it didn’t feel painful anymore, it didn’t feel painful anywhere at all.

“What in the world…?” Does this have anything to do with me meeting Rox last night? Does merely meeting him successfully perishes all the fatigue and pain that I experienced?

Still confused, I opened the door of my house. Even though I’m not getting what’s happening right now, I’ll just have to ask Rox about it later.

“Are you Marcus Collins?” Two towering figures stood in front of me, blocking my path and rendering me to halt midway during my walking. The two of them has an almost identical features between each other if not for a single beauty mark beneath the eyes on one of them. The one who talked to me was the one without the beauty mark, and his tone sounded just like his appearance, a kind and friendly looking Asian guy.

“Can you follow us somewhere right now?”

Wow.

I shuffled back a bit.

Is this what they call coaxing method before the kidnapping?

“Who…” I passed my gaze in between the two of them. The two of them were smiling at me, with the one without the beauty mark on my left smiling wider than the one without the beauty mark who was standing on my right.

“…We’ll tell you if you followed us.” The one on the right side spoke, with a smooth, easy to listen to voice.

I was about ready to run away, but my gut is telling me that the two of them are more dangerous than what they seemed to be. So, feeling slightly wary, I nodded and followed them.

I don’t know where I’ll be taken to, but entering a black, thickly tinted car is not a good sign, right?

"Want some drinks?" The non-beauty-mark dude offered me a can of soda. It was a bit rude to reject, but only God knows what they did to that drink.

I waited nervously for the car to arrive at its destination. Several structures passed by the car, yet I still didn’t feel like we’re nearing our destination.

“We’re here, sirs?’ The driver said, probably addressing the two twins as ‘Sirs.’

The car stopped right in front of the building before the twins stepped out.

The architecture of the building is a bit unique, with a bridge supporting both of it. This building looked a bit different from the corporation building I think of. Wait, different?

Its tone was relaxed, yet sounded carefully aligned which make the person behind that voice sound easy to talk to.“…Has he now?” Another voice appeared, a deeper tone with clear and prompt pronunciation. Clearly someone who is good at talking. Then silence. “…I’m not sure if I’m ready to meet him or not.”“Even though you are the one who ordered us to bring him here?” The other voice countered with a guessing tone.“I’m not sure. One moment, I really wanted to meet this person you spoke of, but the next moment, my hesitance clouds my confidence. I wasn’t even sure if he knows me.” The other guy’s tone answered reluctantly. Am I meant to know this guy or what? Because I never had a friend who worked in a fancy looking office building in the middle of the city. Heck, I d

(Marcus’s POV)So uh… Apparently I learnt something new today. That is, to not eat three cups of instant noodle and passed out to bed. The reason I said this to, well, myself of course, was because of the fact, an odd fact, of me waking up in a forest in the middle of the night.Even a mentally unstable person know this isn’t the reality, but I was caught astounded. I am probably among those people who wished to have a lucid dream; experiencing the joy of gaining control inside your dream and do whatever you wanted for a short amount of time, everyone just needs that.Thought it’s not my wish to wake up inside a dark, gloomy, terrorizing and inaudibly suffocating forest with dead and living trees mixed together, disturbing my view. If I knew I were to get thrown inside a lucid dream this realistic and, well, filled nature, I would have opted to wear a more pleasantly suitable outfit rather than these white tank top and stripy shorts of m

MarcusAs far as I’m concerned, of my, well, sense of reality, I kept on feeling this strange surge of energy filling up every veins of my being. Was the effect of the blood crystal(Self proclaimed) be great after all? That vampire guy- I mean Rox, did say that it increased the health bar. But I didn’t expect for it to be connected with my health.Eh wait… So when he said I might die if I let the health bar drop, did he really mean it?Scary.Vampires are scary. But he’s not a vampire, probably, and getting scared when I am already obeying his plans and almost finished collectiing the crystal feels like it’s already too late.“Alright…” I hopped towards my last crystal and a BLING sound echoed through the grim forest just like a notification of a game, unless I’ve heard it for the 546th time already.“The path of rejuvenation is perilous…” I mumbled

Marcus’s POV The image of him cracked open his jaw and revealed a gruesome two pairs of canines shook me up from my sleep. Having to breathe slowly so I didn’t get hyperventilated, I picked up everything that has left out from me—my sanity, my sense of rationality, my stable breath, and my… blanket and pillow that I threw down to the floor upon waking up.Like an old man, I grumbled and stretched. Then, with an old man behavior, I scratched my back while lazily picked up all the clothes. And when I said old man, I literally mean my speech too.“Just who left their clothes sprawling across the room. Those shameless gnats…” I whined and picked the dirty clothes that was scattered on the floor of my bedroom.Well, I am shameless, and I am also the gnat. Because I was the one who scattered the clothes by myself after returning late

He threw me a strange look.“What, are you gay?” His suspicion arise.I cracked a grin at him and shoved my lock screen image—which is an image of an anime fireman who’s smiling like a maniac as his feet caught in fire—to his view. Alphonso choked a surprised Oomph!“Does a male praising another male’s handsomeness counted as gay?” I then drifted my gaze to my lock screen and at the same time, remembered all the anime figurines of males I have stored in my work room.“Doesn’t that mean I am double gay?”“No…” Alphonso rubbed the tip of his nose that looks a bit red from my shoving. “If you liked that madman on your lock screen, you are not gay, you&rsq

Marcus Four from five days on weekdays, I would spend about three hours after classes to hone my martial arts skills. On Monday it’s judo, on Tuesday it’s boxing, on Wednesday it’s street boxing, and on Thursday it will be a lesson on weapon handling. I learned all those skills like I am out for a killing. But it’s true that I AM out to kill the monsters that chase me inside the maze. Rox never said that I should just run away from them, so I decided to fight. Running would be easy until at one point you were pushed onto a corner where your life and death is separated by a hair’s width. That’s why before that moment came, I’ll just prepare for the worst. “But that is too extreme for someone who said that they didn’t want to get bullied.” Alphonso retorted when he heard my idea of learning martial arts. “I mean, taking lesson for 4 self-defence skills all at once is ridiculous. It’s not like we are in an apocalypse.” He got a point. Though I don’t want to risk dying just because I a

Marcus I can remember vividly those jagged rows of yellowish, red teeth flashing at me. If not for the moves I remembered in one of those fighting games, and my will to live, I might have not survived if I were to be bitten by that. Though, I might have pushed myself too much during the previous level. Fighting while climbing up flight if stairs was a tough thing to do, especially when the monster that chased me is a spider type. Those spindly legs made of shiny metals could kill me in one fell swoop, but it's less terrifying compared to its face. About the description... I believe I have explained it above. After fighting for my dear life, my body aches all over when I wake up from my lucid dream. I never knew that physical capabilities are related between reality and dream. Though I heard somewhere that if you die in your lucid dream, you'll die in real life. I'll need to improve my stamina somehow. Which was why... I started personal stamina training on my own, while getting mys

MarcusIt’s been three weeks since that news, yet I still couldn’t get it out of my mind. I mean, the face of the CEO looks similar to the King inside the lucid dream the more I think about it. I tried to dispose it off as a mere coincidence, maybe the warehouse is coincidentally created similar to in real life, as dreams are a reflection of real life event and situations after all.But wait, by real event does that mean…“Aw heck!” I ruffled my bushy hair. This confusion makes me feel like running in circles, my mind is in a complete mess. I can’t even ask Rox for explanation as there were no more lucid dreams since the last time about three weeks ago.I then heaved a sigh and stood up from my bed. This is the weekend, and I just spend the first quarter of it overthinking things.Great.Deciding to finally ignore it, I sauntered to the kitchen and opened the fridge.
