I ran down the stairs, as soon as I heard a car horn outside. As I got outside, I saw my boyfriend in his car waiting on me. I went up to the car and got in.
"Hi babe." Logan Cummings leaned over to the passenger side and kisses me on my cheek.
"Hi." I greeted as he started the engine and drove to school. We were at school in ten minutes and we both got out.
"I have to see my science teacher about an assignment, so I'll see you at lunch, okay?" Logan said to me.
"Okay." I said. He was always meeting teachers a lot lately. I also notice that he was avoiding me most of the times and cancelling our dates.
Logan and I have been dating for a year now, but recently, I've realized that he had become distant. Shaking my head of Logan's weird behaviour, I went into the school's building.
"Emily!" I heard my best friend, Victoria Hernandez shouted as I walked down the hall. I turned around and see her walking up to catch me.
Victoria was Hispanic and originally from Cuba. She has a great personality and would always include Spanish words into conversations. It was a good thing that I have been around her a lot, so I got used to it and learnt a few Spanish words. "Hey chica." She said when she reached me.
"Hey Tori." I smiled and hugged her.
"My mom is inviting you for dinner tonight." Victoria said in her thick Spanish accent as we walked down the hall together.
"Why? What's the occasion?" I asked.
"There is no occasion. She is cooking her famous croquettes tonight and you know how she gets when she cooks her favourite Spanish meal." She said, as she rolled her eyes. "She wants to share it with everyone. She even invited mi abuela."
I laughed, "Well your mother is a great cook. How can I say no?"
"Good. You don't want to disappoint her." She said. I shook my head as I thought about Maria's love for cooking. She is like my second mother and I tell you, she loves to spoil me.
Victoria and I talked about random things as we head to our homeroom. After roll call, we head to our AP Chemistry class, which we have together.
The day passed by in a blur and now it was the end of the day. I left my last class and went to my locker to get the books that I would need. I looked up to see Victoria walking towards me.
"Are you ready?" She asked when she reached me.
"Yeah, let's go." I said, as I closed my locker. I suddenly slapped my hand across my face as I remembered something. "Oh, I almost forgot. I need to go up to the library to get some books. Wait here, I'll be right back." I walked quickly from her and went in the direction of the library.
I reached the library and got the books that I needed and was now quickly running through the halls. Because of my movement, one of the books which I was carrying fell from my hands. I stopped in my tracks to pick it up.
When I bend down to get the book. I heard hushed whispering and heavy breathing in the science lab that I was standing next to. I was about to ignore the conversation, when I picked up on a familiar voice. After listening for a short while, I realized that it was Logan.
What was he doing here? I thought he told me that he had to leave immediately after school to run some errands for his mother?
I stepped closer to the door and peeked in. What I saw in front of my eyes, had me in total shock. In the corner of the lab stood Logan with a girl wrapped in his arm and they were making out intensely. Logan had his back to me and the girl had her eyes closed, so they didn't see me.
Paralyzed with disbelief, I didn't do anything, but stare at them. The girl had both her arms around his neck and he had an arm on her waist and the other on her thigh. The girl was familiar. Her name was Trisha and she was a nice girl. At least I thought she was. She would always call to me in passing. I guess she had me fooled. After a while, I came back to my senses and anger took over me.
"So I see that this is your extracurricular activity." I said, my voice dripping with hostility.
As soon as I spoke, both Logan and Trisha pulled away quickly. They both looked around at me with a startled and guilty expression. However, Logan was the first to speak.
"Emily, I can explain." He said as he moved away from the girl and walked towards me.
"I'm sure you can, Logan. I'm sure you can explain to me why you and another girl were playing tongue hockey." I said, crossing my arms. He went silent and just looked at me. "That's right you can't and to be honest, I really don't care." I added as I stepped away from the door; storming away.
I ran down the hall as quickly as possible before Logan could follow me. Tears blurred my vision as I ran. I can't believe he used me like that. I thought he cared about me, but I guess I was wrong.
The tears that I was trying to hold back finally came, but I didn't stop. I continue to walk back to my locker, where Tori was still standing. I collapse in tears in her arms as soon as I reached her.
That night, I slept over at Victoria's house. After crying in her arms at school, I had told her what I had saw. She was just as surprised as I was, because she would always say that Logan and I would last and we were made for each other.I didn't even enjoy Maria's dinner and I always love it. I guess I was too distracted and heartbroken to enjoy it. Victoria did everything she could to cheer me up. We watched movies and ate ice-cream all night. It helped because for a while I forget everything, but there was always something that brought the memories back.Logan called my phone a few times, but I ignored his call. When his calls became incessant and annoying, I shut my phone off. I didn't want to hear what he had to say. I didn't want to hear his lies and excuses. The following day, I was at my locker getting my books for class, when I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turn around to see who it was. When I saw the person, I turn back around. My anger returning again."I know that you ha
When I got home, I head for the kitchen to get a bottle of water. My stepmother, Sarah, is at the stove cooking dinner. She turn around when I enter."Hi." She greeted me."Hello," I responded. She turns back around and continues cooking dinner. That was how it was between Sarah and I. We didn't really say much to each other. I didn't have anything against her. She was a nice enough lady. However, ever since my dad married her almost a year ago, she had never said much to me and I've never said much to her. Just greetings and small talk. Sometimes, I wonder, if she hates me, even though she has never done or said anything mean to me before.I didn't know my mother. She died when I was just two, so it has always been my dad and I. A year and a half ago, my dad met Sarah and I have never seen him happier. She was the first woman that he has dated since Mom died that he truly loves. I was glad that he was happy and Sarah was the one to make that happen, so I didn't mind at all."Is my da
Tyler put his hands on my waist and pull me closer to him. I could feel his entire body press up against mine. Thinking it was now time to end this, I broke the kiss and pull away from him, creating a few distance between us. Tyler was looking at me, an arrogant smirk on his lips."Well, what do we have here?" Tyler said. "I know you couldn't resist me, Sweet Cheeks, but next time give me a warning first. I'll be happy to oblige anytime." He winked at me.I roll my eyes. Boy, was he arrogant! This is why I avoid him like the plague. He was too full of himself. "Please don't flatter yourself. I'm only here for one reason only.""Yes I know. You want me." He responded smugly. Before I could respond, I heard a locker door slam loudly. I turn around in that direction to see Logan storming away. I smiled. Mission accomplished. Tyler followed my line of vision and then chuckle."Ahh, I see. Putting on a show for your boyfriend?" He asked. Now that Logan had left, I step away from Tyler comp
The weekend went by and now it was Sunday evening. I was currently sitting up in bed reading one of my favourite books; The Hunger Games. I can't count how many times I've read it.I was so indulged in the book, that I hadn't heard the soft tap on my window at first. When I hear the second tap, I put the book down and listen. After a while, I hear it again. Yep, I definitely wasn't imagining things.I rest the book on my bedside table and got off the bed. I went over to my window and open the curtains. I slide the window pane up and look out. Tyler was sitting on his window sill, looking as comfortable as ever. He had a few pebbles in his hands."Were you planning on breaking my window?" I ask."No, I didn't hit it that hard." He shrug his shoulders as if it was nothing."What do you want?" I ask, getting to the point."I just wanted to tell you that I'll be waiting for you tomorrow to drive you to school." He said.I scrunch up my eyebrows in confusion. "Why?""We are suppose to be d
Lunch went by and surprisingly, I have to admit, it wasn't as bad as expected. Now, Tyler and I were walking to our next class. We both have English class together, so we had parted ways with Seth and Tori.We had just reached the door of our classroom, when Tyler spoke. "I forgot to mention that you're coming over to my house later today."I stopped in my tracks and turned to face him. I lifted my eyebrows curiously. "Why?"Tyler rubbed the back of his neck, which was uncharacteristic of him. "Over the weekend, my mother, for the hundredths time, was lecturing me about my ways," he rolled his eyes at that. "So I told her that I have a girlfriend. She got all happy and excited and said that I should bring you over for dinner."My eyes widen a little. The last thing I wanted was to meet Tyler's mother as his fake girlfriend. That would definitely be awkward. However, a deal was a deal and part of my deal was to pretend to date Tyler for his mother's sake.Trying my best not to show how
"I'll be over in two hours." I said to Tyler, when I got out of his car. He nodded his head, before turning the car in the direction of his house to park. When I got into my house, I went up to my room and did my homework. One hour later, I took a shower and now I was trying to figure out what to wear. I didn't know what kind of person Tyler's mom was and frankly, I didn't want to screw it up for him. After ten minutes more of indecision, I finally settled on a simple dress. It was a mere casual dress that was lime green, patterned with a few flowers. I didn't do anything to my hair. I let it hung loose in its natural curl. I slip on a black slipper and went downstairs. While I was getting ready, Sarah had came home and now she was in the kitchen getting dinner started. "Hey Sarah."She looked around at my voice. "Oh hey, want to help me with dinner?" She asked hopefully.I looked at her, regretfully. It was actually the first time she was asking me this and I felt bad that I couldn't
The dinner was delicious and Rachel was great dinner company. I ate every single thing, which Rachel was delighted about. When we were finished eating, Rachel went to the kitchen and came back with slices of the chocolate cake that I had brought earlier. Even though I couldn't eat anything more, I accepted the offered slice. After I finished the last crumb of the cake, I looked up at Rachel across the table. "Thanks again for dinner, Rachel. It was amazing." I commended. She smiled brightly. "You're welcome. I'm glad you enjoyed it.""Thanks." I returned her smile, which was contagious. She clasped her hands in excitement suddenly. "Oh, I have to show you Tyler's pictures. I'll go get my album." She said, getting up instantly.Tyler, who was beside me, eyes widen. "No, Mom. I don't think that is necessary. Emily has to leave now anyways." He said quickly, trying to stop his mother. His mother brushed his comment aside. "Oh, nonsense. I'm sure Emily would be happy to see it." She said,
"How is your fake dating with Tyler coming along?" Tori asked on Wednesday. She was lying on her stomach across her bed, swinging her feet in the air. As soon as we left school we head over to her house and was here talking about random things."It's going okay. Everyone seems to believe we are actually a couple and Logan hasn't said anything to me in two days, so I guess it's working." I responded. "At least, I hope so." I added. I was sitting in front of Tori on the bed, my back against the headboard. "I wish I'd seen the look on his face when he saw that you were dating Tyler." She chuckled. "The cheating jerk deserves it. No me gusta nada."I smiled at Tori's words. Ever since Logan cheated on me, Tori despised him. She never fails to express how much she hates him. After a while, Tori turned on the bed and sat up, facing me. "So, what are you going to be for Halloween?""Aren't we too old to dress up for Halloween, Tori?" I asked, raising my eyebrows at her."Nonsense, it's fun
Four Months Later"Where are you and Stephanie going?" I asked Tori. She was sitting at her dresser, brushing her hair, while I was laying on her bed.Tori stopped what she was doing and looked at me through her mirror. "Nowhere fancy. We're just going to the movies." She answered."That sounds like fun." I replied.Tori and Stephanie were officially together after four months of being in denial. It really did take a long time for them to finally come to terms with how they felt. Finally they dropped the whole 'just friends' charade. Also, I think it had to do with the fact that Stephanie was not out as a lesbian to her family as yet and she was slowly working through that. The only person in her family who had known at the time was her older brother. Now today, Saturday, they were going on their first date. Tori had asked me to come over to her house to help her pick out a nice outfit. Tori didn't want to admit it, but she was nervous to go on this date. This was her first time goin
"I don't have to ask why you two are holding hands and looking like a couple." Tori said as soon as she saw Tyler and I the following day.We walked over to where she stood. "Hello to you too, Tori."Tori smiled. "So you two are dating for real now, right?""Yes it's real." Tyler supplied wrapping his arms around me."I knew something was up all along. I was just waiting for you both to admit it. I've never seen fake dating looked so real before." She emphasized.I smiled at Tori's excitement. "Yes Tori, you were right.""Of course I was. I know a perfect match when I see one." She said proudly."Yes and I'm not letting her go so easily." Tyler added sending a wink my way."Awww," Tori sighed. "Tan Lindo." After a while she said. "Anyway, I hope you didn't forget that today is the girl's soccer team championship game.""Yes, I remember." I nodded. How could I? They had announced it in assembly yesterday."So, are you going?" She asked hopefully. "It's the last game of the season.""Of
Emily's POVMy parents went to bed early after dinner on Wednesday evening, so after I finished washing the dishes, I went up to my room earlier than normal. After turning off all the lights in the house, I went up to my room. When I entered my room, I heard my phone ringing. I walked over to my bed and took it up. Checking the caller ID, I saw that it was Tori. I lay on my bed and picked up the call."Hey girl. What's up?""Hi Emily. I'm just checking up on you. How are you doing?"I scrunched up my eyebrows in confusion. "I'm fine. Why wouldn't I be?""Emily, you didn't seem like yourself in school today. You spaced out a lot and I noticed you barely said two words. I was worried about you." She explained."Thanks Victoria, but really I'm good." I insist."Are you sure?""Well, I would be eventually.""Good. Don't worry about it okay? It will all work out. I know it will.""Thanks girl." I said grateful that she was trying to make me feel better even though what she was suggesting w
Tyler's POVAfter school on Wednesday, Seth and I drove into town where Seth picked up a few things. We also stopped at his uncle's antique shop for a small visit, but ended up being there for longer. On our way back, we decided to drive to a place where we usually hang out. It was an old abandoned playground that was a fifteen minutes drive from our school. We would normally come here to hang out before going home. It has been a while since we stopped here so we decided to do so today.Today wasn't any different than the other days we stop here. We were here for almost an hour now just chilling and talking about nothing in particular; just random topics. Seth was settled on top of a bench with his feet on the sitting area and I sat a few feet in front of him on a tree stomp with my back leaning on a tree. Most of the time we were talking however, I was a little distracted. I couldn't help it. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't stop thinking about how things turned out with Emily
I was walking through the parking lot at school the next day when I heard someone called my name. I turned around to see Logan walking towards me."Can I talk to you for a bit?" He asked when he stood in front of me. I nodded my head and indicated for him to say what he's got to say. "I just wanted to tell you that I'm sorry."I sighed. "Logan, you've told me this already. We've been through this and I'm tired." I interjected."No, I mean I'm sorry to be coming at you and forcing us to get back together." He clarified. I stared at him, shock by his apology. "I've listened to what you said the last time we spoke and you're absolutely right.""Really?" I was really surprised about this sudden change. He nodded. "Yes. I wasn't being fair to you by forcing what could never be.""You're right, you weren't." I agreed. He winced at my words. "I know and I'm really sorry about that. You deserve better."I was watching him closely wondering if he was messing with me, but I didn't hear any humo
"Hey, where's Tyler?"I turned from my locker towards the voice. I saw that it was Seth who was behind me.I shrugged my shoulders. "I don't know. I don't think he's here as yet."Seth watched me with a confused expression. "When I saw you, I thought he was here. You guys always come together.""I left home early this morning." I stated before bringing my voice to a whisper. "And besides, we don't need to come to school together anymore now that our fake dating has come to an end.""Are you serious?" He asked in shock."Yeah. What did you expect?" I asked confused by his shocked expression. "And what's the big deal anyways? You should have known that it was going to come to an end sooner or later.""Yeah but..." He said trailing off.I finished getting my books from my locker and closed it. Turning to face him once again, I lifted my eyebrows at him in question. "But what?"He shook his head. "Nothing.""Right." I said brushing aside Seth's weird behaviour. "Well, I've got to get to c
When Logan and I had dated, I thought we were a great couple. He was sweet, kind and played the role of a boyfriend perfectly. He made me feel special and I loved hanging out with him, but that was just it. There was no spark or any deep emotional connection with him. We didn't have any heart stopping moments or strong chemistry. I was his girlfriend and he was boyfriend but only in name, so it was like we were playing that role and just existing.I met Logan in the computer lab at school. I was walking towards a computer station and he was going for the same one. None of us had seen the other. When we reached the station, we both put our hand on the chair at the same time. He then turn to face me and smiled, before saying that I could have that one. He then took the one beside me.For the entire time we spent in the computer room, we talked and that's how we became friends. After that, we started hanging out together. A month later, he told me he likes me and he enjoys when we hang
Emily's POV"Hey, you've been spacing out on me all morning. What's up?" Tori asked me as we sat in the library after school doing homework.I looked up at Tori. "Nothing's up. I'm just thinking." I confessed."Thinking about what?" She prodded.I sigh, deciding to confide in her. "Tyler's ex girlfriend has moved back here."Tori furrowed her eyebrows in confusion. "Ex girlfriend? What are you talking about?"I have never told Tori about what Tyler told me, so I knew she would've been confused. There was no need to tell her before, but now that I wanted to explain what I was thinking, I told her everything about Andrea."So now she came back yesterday." I said as I finished relaying the story to her."Woah, that's hardcore." Tori stated. "So what's the problem?""I'm just worried that Tyler is going to get back together with her. I mean, I wouldn't blame him she's super pretty and perfect for him." Tori who was watching me closely lifted her eyebrows at me when I said that. "What I me
Tyler's POV"Hello Andrea." I replied looking at her, wondering if she was actually standing here. But she was indeed standing on the doorstep, smiling as if she had forgotten what she did two years ago. She looked every bit the same as she did before she left."What are you doing here?" I demanded. She lifted her eyebrows curiously at me. "Is that how you're going to greet me after not seeing me for almost two years?" She asked. "Come on, let me in.""What are you doing here?" I repeated, not giving her an invitation to come in.Ignoring my question, she shift her head to the side to look behind me. "Who's that?" She asked.Realizing that Emily was still sitting on the couch in the living room, I turned around to look at her. She stood up and walked over to the door."I think I better go, Tyler." She said."No stay." I said. Andrea was going to leave soon anyway. I had no intention of keeping her here for long. However, Emily shook her head. "No, I have to get home anyway. I'll talk
