Chapter 21

Zachary Wright stood in all his glory in the cell Seraphina used to be kept. He leaned against the hard rocky wall, staring at the drops of blood lying on the floor, drops of blood that he suspected could be hers. She could not be dead, could she? He wondered, leaning off the wall to begin his slow pacing.

The cell was not only filthy but also too stuffy to accommodate any form of air which had him wondering how the prisoners had managed to breathe while being trapped. His thoughts disappeared when the door to the cell opened widely, and he turned to see one of his guards standing behind him, head and eyes facing the ground.

“What do you have for me?” Zachary asked, placing his hands into the pockets of his very long robe. The guard lifted his head immediately, took a step closer and looked him directly in the eyes.

“She is dead.” He muttered simply.
