Chapter sixteen

“Did you see that?” she asked, gripping Aamon’s wrist excitedly.

“How could I not?” He answered, not minding that she was unconsciously digging her nails into his skin.

The door closed almost as suddenly as it was opened. Aamon and Hadassah exchanged glances, before proceeding to open the car doors.

“I knew something fishy was going on. Hadassah, can I ask you to please stay behind me?”

Hadassah shot him a defiant glance. “What? Why?”

“I need to make sure you're protected…”

“I can protect myself…”

“Please?” He gave her a pleading look and Hadassah finally gave in.

“Fine,” She said in resignation. “But I won't like it.”

He chuckled as he said, “I don't expect you to.”

“And I won't stay behind you again.”

“Fine by me. As long as you allow me to protect you another way.”

She looked up at him, “What other way is there?”

The corner of his lips tipped as he answered, “When the time comes, you'll know.”

For some reason, the way he said that, and the look in his eyes as he spoke, made blood
