The ball rolled to and fro. Dominik was in the middle of the field, with vacant eyes. He was deep into his own thoughts. He could not focus the whole morning. His whole team wondered: What the heck is wrong with Dominik? Nobody had a concise answer.

The ball hit Weigand's leg hard, waking him up.

“I don't like seeing him like this” commented Ewald to Friedrich, who were watching the practice from the bleachers.

“He'll get back from it” said Treadaway nonchalantly.

“We went overboard” the head coach felt concerned.

“We did the right thing” snapped the publicist. “Look at him now, the way he's acting. I can't even fathom how he would be acting if this girl had gone and broke his heart.”

“I had never seen Dominik so enthusiastic about a girl, maybe he is in love.”

“It's an infatuation, Ewald. He'll snap out of it soon.

“What if he doesn't? Just look at him, he looks mentally retarded.

“Dominik!” Yelled Friedrich. The man looked at him. “Get your head in the game” he added.

Dom glared at him as he muttered:

“Imbecile” he said under his breath and turned back to the field.

He was very upset and disappointed at who was supposed to be his friend and support him.

“He wants to kill us” said Ewald in obvious frustration.

“All he wants is winning the World Cup, we must remind him” Treadaway stared right at the head coach. “We're so close. We cannot allow some barista to spoil it all.”

Dominik kicked the ball as hard as he could, like he was trying to vent all his anger and frustration. The ball hit the goal keeper in the chest, who fell back against the goal's net.

All people present opened their eyes big as plates to such a display of strength.

“Fuck!” Rodríguez could not hold back his surprise.

Dom strutted before Ewald and Friedrich.

“Is this good enough? Or should I focus even more?” he said and kept going.

Three years ago.A pair of green eyes were set on a beautiful girl with brown hair, who stopped before a locker to put her things away. She was gorgeous, he realized.“Who's that?” The black-haired, fair-skinned boy asked his friend. The other guy looked at the pretty girl in the floral print dress. She had her hair in a high pony-tail and she was almost angelic beauty. He turned towards his classmate and looked at him from head to toes. The exact opposite of what he had just seen. His friend was wearing black trousers, ripped at the knees with thick chains coming out of his pocket, a pair of black converse and a T-shirt with the Guns N’ Roses logo he seemed to not have washed in weeks. The only thing he had going for him was his good looks. Girls would turn around to look at him walk by, dazzled by his long dark hair, contrasting his bright green eyes. He had worked hard for his bad boy image. Never taking any reprimands from a teacher, the detention room was home away from home to h

Present day A tar rolled down Samanta's cheek. Those were very painful memories time seemed to never heal. She could not forgive herself for what she did. She put her hand on her womb, remembering the atrocity she allowed. At that moment, she felt even more frustrated and confused. She felt the weight of the world was on her and she needed to breathe. She needed to relax, step away from all this emotional chaos. The only good thing that came out from her rebel days was her acquired taste for rock music, she would indulge in it now. She needed it urgently. Enjoying a nice live music show, sipping a nice cold beer, that seemed like a great idea. Being on her own, thinking and just disconnecting from the world even if just for a few hours. She felt something in her pocket vibrating, indicating an incoming call. She looked at her phone screen and found out it was Dominik. She did not want to speak to anybody, so she shut the device off, freeing herself from any torment. Her sister Teresa

Of all feelings, the one he could ever remember escaping from was love. He knew from very early on what that feeling could do. His mother suffered in silence because his father loved a woman who was not her. Obviously, Dominik was too young to understand the matters of the heart, but, what he knew was that humans were capable of many stupid things for that thing called “love.”To him, it meant nothing more than a series of chain reactions caused by certain biochemical substances in the brain. Dominik tried sticking to his policy: “The heart was meant for pumping blood, not for stupid feelings.” And that was how he felt, very stupid. He could not stop thinking of Samanta, and his only one desire. Seeing her. He lost focus during practice, and that, to him, was unforgivable. He would judge himself for allowing this situation to escalate out of control. He didn't want to feel like this, he refused to feel like a primitive animal, acting out of instinct.«The World Cup. That is your goal,

Samanta pushed Alan's hand away and her heart skipped a beat, she was seeing a ghost.«Really? Could this day get any worse?» She thought.“What are you doing here?” she asked.Dominik stayed silent without looking away from her. Anger started crawling up his body. He clenched his fists, trying to calm down. He looked at the stranger, then back at Sam…“Friedrich took me out to unwind, but I see it was a bad idea, all I am getting is the opposite of that” Dominik was jealous, burning in anger and all he could think about was: Who is he?“Right! A good drink, some good old rock music, clears your head, helps figure out your problems” she snapped. “Are you freaking following me, Dominik?” Sam stood up and glared at Friedrich and then Dominik.“What? If I wanted to follow you, you wouldn't even know” he answered naively.“You think you can call me, show up and that's that? All is forgotten? No, Dominik. Your personal Hitler and this one…” referring to Friedrich, “humiliated me and you di

Samanta's biggest flaw was her impulsiveness. Because of it, she made so many mistakes. Like those she made for the boy walking next to her. Her temper made her act upon impulse and immaturity. So much so, that she preferred to leave with the man who broke her heart in a million pieces, marking her life forever, instead of facing her feelings for Dominik.Pride was another one of her flaws.Samanta walked hastily next to Alan, and she felt like this was some sort of crazy dream. On her right, her ex-boyfriend, the man she loved until madness, the one who broke her heart, her first time, who she gave herself away to and who intervened just a few minutes ago to save her from the scandal coming her way. She could not help remembering the times Alan was an amazing boyfriend, pampering her, being attentive and caring for her. The tough guy who never doubted stepping on anybody just to protect his girlfriend. If he had only been like that the whole time. Alan sunk himself into a world of ex

Two hours and thirty-seven minutes went by. Dominik counted them all. He could not keep track of all the times he tried reaching out to Samanta, but it went straight to voice mail.“Damn it! She is not answering, Friedrich. God knows what could be happening to her” Dominik was starting to freak out.“Drop it already. She'll come back around…” said Friedrich.“No. I am going to find her. I know I will not get any sleep if I cannot settle this with her tonight. Besides, We will be off to Santa Clara tomorrow, I would like to say goodbye and tell her I will be back by the end of this month” Dominik stood up from the table and made a sign to the waitress. “Check, please.”“Sit down, Dominik! Stop acting like a fool. If you go after her right now, you will only be proving that she has you right in the palm of her hand and she will do with you whatever she wants. Keep some dignity, dammit!”“I must see her, Friedrich, touch her, kiss her… Shit! What is wrong with me?” He grabbed his head wi

Dominik and Friedrich arrived to their hotel. They were both walking fast, avoiding some paparazzi who were by the entrance. Ewald, who was sitting on a couch at the lobby, reading a magazine, sipping some coffee, saw them coming in. He got up and walked towards them.“Dominik, I just got a call from…” he didn't get to finish his phrase because Dominik gave him a freezing look and carried on towards the elevator without a single word.”What happened to him?” He asked Friedrich.“What we were fearing. He got brokenhearted” he answered, going after Dominik. He even had to run to catch up. “Hey!”“If you are coming with me, be quiet. I am not in the mood for a lecture” snapped Dom.“No need to treat me like that. This was not even my fault.”“I am very angry.”The door opened at the corresponding floor and they both went out the metallic box.“And you have every right to be…” agreed Treadaway.“I am an imbecile” said Weigand under his breath.“No. You're not” Friedrich tried calming him.

I turned to the man who was talking to me. There was something in that voice that made me evoke a thousand memories. I looked at him carefully for a while, because although his face was very familiar to me, I couldn't place him. I opened my eyes like saucers and my heart stopped for a fraction of a second when I recognized the owner of those green eyes that were looking at me. In front of me was the personification of all my fears, traumas and insecurities. The man who served as a benchmark to compare all the people who came into my life after him. It was a beautiful vision, and at the same time a nightmare come true. “Antoine,” I said his name with difficulty. If the mere memory of him stirred up a lot of emotions in me, can you imagine “what his presence did to me?” The imposing figure of a six-foot-tall man lay before me. His eyes were greener than I remembered them and he had a beautiful smile (the one that brought out a couple of dimples in his cheeks) plastered on his face. He

I shook my head hard to concentrate on my friend's voice. She kept talking, but I stopped listening to her for a moment because I was thinking about Harvey, the gorgeous blond I met two months ago on one of my many girls' outings with Gabrielle, and who I started dating four weeks ago. He was divorced and had two young children. All my life I was reluctant to have anything with a man with children, because my policy was always: If I can buy a new car, ¿why buy a used one? This thought became ingrained in me as a result of living with my stepmother. It's not that our relationship was bad, but I remember a couple of times I tried to make her life miserable, just for fun. I was afraid that divine justice would take its toll on me for those years of rebellion and headaches I'd caused Valerie. But there was something about Harvey that appealed to me so much. He was very direct and upfront. When he approached me, he didn't do it with the typical cliché phrases that all men use to approac
