Monday morning came and sunlight reached Sam's eyes, who, hearing her alarm go off, let out a huff. She quieted the alarm with smack. She felt like her head was about to explode.
Little by little she managed to get out of bed and got right into the shower. She took a quick bath feeling all the while as though everything around her was spinning. All of a sudden, flashes of the night before came to her head; her encounter with Alan, Dominik showing up to the bar, all those beers she drank, Alan kissing her…
Her eyes opened in disbelief.
«What the heck happened last night?» she asked.
She went out the bathroom, dressed up as fast as she could, made herself a strong cup of coffee, took an aspirin and rushed to work. When, in reality, all she wanted was to stay in bed and sleep all day.
She showed up to work and put on her uniform. She was a couple minutes late, but Gordon didn't mind. She noticed Carlos staring at her, decided to keep staring. He went out of his way to catch her eye, however, Samanta avoided eye contact with her friend. Dare I say, admirer?
The tension between the two was very strange. Uncomfortable and unnecessary.
«How stupid of me. Now she won't even look at me.» Carlos looked at her and kept thinking «I'm an imbecile. I should have never confessed to her.» The poor boy kept torturing himself all day.
On the other hand, Samanta couldn't bare the shame. She loved her friend, but she felt like just talking to him would lead him on, and, maybe he could mix things up even more. She didn't want that.
*****
Several days went by and Sam didn't hear from Dominik, apart from what was on TV. The German star was facing Cameroon that afternoon, they were winning 3 - 0. With that score, they made it to the next round, the elimination round, as leaders of their group. Most definitely, Dominik had no time to think of her right now, only his precious World Cup.
She didn't hear from Alan either, but that was a relief. The confusion she was in days before took its toll on her. She managed to focus on everything she would have to do, had she been admitted to college in El Cairo. She wanted to be prepared for the best case scenario.
Sadly, her relationship with Carlos only deteriorated in time. Her friend's confession put her in a dilemma. If she talked to him, she would hurt him, but also if she didn't talk to him. She could not make up her mind whether she should treat him like nothing had ever happened, ignoring his feelings for her, knowing that would hurt him, or tell him she didn't feel the same and break his heart for once. Samanta couldn't feel something beyond friendship for him, and she tried.
«Why can't I love him back? Things would be so much easier,» she kept repeating to herself, over and over. Carlos would be the perfect match for her, but there was one thing she knew for sure, the heart wants what it wants.
Rumors of Dominik hanging out with his ex-girlfriend, the current pop sensation, disturbed her a little. Although she would not admit to it, Samanta had very strong feelings for him, but she was so stubborn and proud, she would not give in. She had his number in her phone since the first time he called, but she never dared to even text him. That's how stubborn she was.
“So… is he already dating another woman?” Said Stacy one afternoon, while Samanta was watching parts of the match, on one of the screens Gordon had set up by the counter. Her work mate's voice sounded so petty, Samanta could not help but be disgusted by her, but the best thing to do was to ignore her. And so she did.
Day in and day out, she focused on doing her job, she tried to keep anything and anyone from taking whatever little peace of mind she had left, until one afternoon, Carlos had the courage to come up to her. He needed that closure.
“It's unbelievable how much you're changed, Sam. You won't even look at me anymore. Not even talk to me” were the first things that came out of his mouth.
“Carlos, please, I don't want to…”
“Hurt me? You do that every day, Samanta, with your attitude, with your indifference. I am not even asking you to feel something for me, just stop treating me like a stranger. That's the least you owe me” snapped Carlos and walked away, leaving her with her words in her mouth.
Frustration was part of her life now. She had no idea what to do. She had feelings for somebody who might already have moved on with his life, far away from her. Her best friend confessed to her. And her former boyfriend had returned to shake the foundations of her sanity.
It was almost time to go home and Samanta was getting things ready for tomorrow when…
“Samanta Andrade?” A male voice brought her back from her own thoughts.
She shook her head and looked at the man who had just called her name.
“Yes. Tell me. That's me.”
“I have a package for you. Sign here, please.”
Sam walked up to the man and did as he requested.
“What's that?” Asked Gordon approaching her with curiosity.
Sam shrugged.
“Dunno. Let's find out.”
Samanta opened the box and froze when she saw what was inside. A stunning blue dress with a box of chocolates and a little not that read:
“Please, forgive me! Would you allow me to mend my mistakes? I would love to see you wear this tonight. Is eight pm good for you?”
In that very instant, Sam felt something vibrate in her apron. Her phone. Looking at the screen made her heartbeat increase. When she saw Dominik on that screen, the world faded away around her. Staring at the beautiful present, she took a deep breath and answered.
“Yes, Dominik. I forgive you” she replied.
That was all she wanted. Proof of his feelings.
»That dress is gorgeous. How did you know I love Amaretto? 8 sounds perfect. Are you picking me up?” Sam was elated.
“What? What are you talking about?” Dominik seemed confused.
“Oh, please! You don't need to play dumb. I just got your package and it's beautiful. Really, you shouldn't have.”
“Wait a minute, Samanta. I have no idea what you are talking about. What package? I was just calling to say hi, asking how you are doing.”
“Bu…but, here it says:” —She took the card— “Forgive me. Give me a chance, blah blah blah”. That wasn't you?
“No” was his short answer.
“Then who…” Sam could not finish her phrase. When she looked up, she found Alan standing on the opposing side of the counter, smiling, pointing at the box in her hands. “Did you like it?” she could read in his lips.
“Must have been that guy kissing you outside your house the other night” snapped Dominik annoyed.
Samanta felt the air escape her lungs inconspicuously.
“What? What did you say?” Was all she could say before Dominik hung up on her.
Must have been that guy kissing you outside your house the other night.
Dominik's voice rumbled inside Samanta's head, like an incessant echo.
«How the hell does he know?» she thought.
Samanta in dismay. She felt as though she had been hit by a train, crushing her, leaving her scattered along the tracks, unable to react, nor move. She was in shock.
«What just happened?». She wondered.
“Did you like it?” Alan's voice was loud and clear.
Samanta tried to put herself together. She shook her head.
“Yes” She looked at Alan, unable to hide her confusion. “Thank you.”
“So? Do I get another chance?” Alan seemed hopeful.
“Alan… I...” Sam was at a loss for words.
Carlos, watching from the distance, frowned seeing how this guy talked to Samanta so casually, almost like…
His eyes almost popped out of their sockets when he recognized him and smoldering anger took over his body.
“What the fuck is he doing here?” He approached Sam, with a face deformed by anger.
“Carlos!” Samanta's heart beating out of her chest.
“What the hell kind of game are you playing now? Did you forget everything this asshole did to you?”
“I see you haven't changed one bit” Alan glared at Carlos. “Still messing where you're not invited.”
Carlos jumped, attempting to attack Alan, but Samanta managed to hold him.
“Stop!” She screamed. “You should leave, Alan” turning her voice down.
“You didn't answer my question” he said.
“Yes. Ok. Tomorrow, 8pm.” She answered, absentminded. She just wanted him to go and keep Carlos from doing something stupid.
Must have been that guy kissing you outside your house the other night.
Dominik's voice again, making itself present, there, in her mind.
Sam could not seem to put her thoughts in order, she heard Alan but she was not listening, she was acting from plain inertia.
“Samanta!” Alan called her name, firmly.
She looked up to see him, as she held Carlos, huffing and cussing at Alan.
“I'll be there” she said.
“Do you remember? Our spot?” Inquired Alan. Samanta nodded. “See you outside the building. Okay?”
“Alright. Just go” said Sam.
Alan left and Sam let Carlos go, who looked at her, confused.
“What the hell is wrong with you?” He asked. “When did you start meeting with him again?”
“I have not been meeting him. I ran into him last Sunday at the Hard Rock Café.”
“So you decided to hang out with him again? He forced you to an abortion!” Carlos could not help yelling.
Gordon came up to them trying to make peace.
“Alright, kids! You guys are friends. You've known each other for years. You should be there for each other…”
“This is a stranger” said Carlos with disdain. “Not Samanta. The Samanta I know, would never be talking to that punk again” he added, turned around and walked away.
Tears rolled down Samanta's face. The world seemed to be working against her. Everything was happening so fast. Like she was going through a series of unfortunate events.
Alan came back into her life, resurfacing feelings she thought dead. A part of that great love, that degraded to something so sick, remained inside her . She could not ignore it. Regardless, Dominik Weigand came into her life, proving her there was another kind of love. Sweet love, unconditioned and not pretending to be something it was not. A feeling so pure she always smiled at the simple thought of it.
Must have been that guy kissing you outside your house the other night.
How the hell did Dominik know?
She could not explain that.
She took her phone and tried calling him back, but to no avail.
3 days ago.Barracuda by Heart was playing in his ear buds as he ran as fast as his legs allowed, trying to drain out all those feelings, but he couldn't. His subconscious was doing its best to remind him falling in love was stupid. And there he was, acting the part. The scene kept playing in his mind time and time again. That guy kissed her. She allowed him.«Who is that?» The question rumbled in his head for the thousandth time. The same question he had been asking himself the past 12 hours. It was only six am and Dominik did his typical warm up before practice. Unable to comprehend how Samanta could turn his world upside down. He always procured keeping a distance from the women he dated. At that moment in his life, he could not afford to waste his time in relationships, emotional conflicts, let alone thinking about a girl who had a boyfriend already, or, at least, so he thought seeing how this guy smooched her outside her house.«Alan». He remembered the name. «Darn! Who the heck
On the corner of 448 Hill St, right in front of the Downtown, Alan waited for Samanta. He looked at his watch and saw it was 7:53 pm. His date would be there any minute. He told her they would be having dinner at the spot they shared so many times before. The Hill Street Pizza. Where Samanta had the pleasure of devouring all sorts of pizza. Her favorite, the Burrata Pizza. He smiled melancholically remembering that time, when they had just started dating and he loved taking her to dinner here. But in reality, his plan, that night, was another.Samanta always mentioned how she wanted to go to a specific restaurant, one of the most exclusive restaurants in town, and it was on the terrace of that very building. She longed to try those delicious looking dishes, prepared by culinary experts, and delight on exquisite cocktails. However, he never managed to land a reservation at the Perch LA.That night, he would grant her the evening she had always wanted. He fixed his waist coat and checke
The flight coming from Santa Clara, arrived to Los Angeles, at 7:12 pm exactly. Dominik got off the plane and called his sister immediately. She indicated she was staying at the Crowne Plaza, so Dominik headed there right away to change his clothes.First thing he did when he met his sister was to ask to use the restroom. However, , Karol jumped on him, holding him tight. Although they hadn't met in months and how much Dom loved his sister, he was not the type to hug people. His sister knew that, so it was always only her, adoring him like another one of his fans, and, she loved him. A love pure and strong. A love only an older sister who watched him grow, learn to walk and take his first steps could only feel. Karol saw the clear resemblance of their father in Dominik. After a couple minutes and a last minute reservation of the most exclusive spots in town by miss Weigand, Dominik and her left towards what would become an unforgettable evening.“How did you find this place?” Asked Do
Samanta couldn't stop staring at her sweaty, shaky hands. It was beyond her how in the world she agreed to come here, why she had accepted Alan's invite when all she could ever think about was Dominik. She shook her head and forced herself to focus in the present time. She looked around and a smile came to her lips. They were in the place she had dreamed of for so long.“Wow! I can't believe you landed a reservation here. What if I had said no?” She asked.“I would have been a fool eating by myself” he replied.Samanta laughed silently and Alan did, too.“It is just what I imagined. Stunning” said Sam, indulging in the beautiful sight of town.“The most precious part is right before my eyes” said Alan in a whisper and Sam blushed when she realized he was looking at her. “Sam… I…” Alan stuttered, while holding Sam's hand, who pulled her hand back right away.“Alan, please, I don't want to lead you on. I don't…” Alan set his fingers on Samanta's lips.“Shhh… Please, Sam, let me talk” Sa
While Karol conversed with the hostess and she looked their names in the guest list, Dominik grabbed his phone, tempted to text Samanta, but he refrained. The pretty lady who identified as Amanda, asked them to wait for 15 minutes while their table was ready. The Weigands agreed and headed for the waiting lounge. Regardless, the girl could not stop staring at Dom, wondering "Where have I seen that face before?" This went on for five minutes until she remembered. Her eyes opened up big like plates when she realized this was one of the biggest celebrities in every sense.Dominik Weigand was not only captain of the Germany football team and the one player who had scored more goals this season. He was a beacon between hot guys. There is a phrase: “Hotter than Dominik Weigand in his underpants” it was one of her most used phrases with her friends. She had to go up to him and apologize, claiming she had not recognized him. Dominik asked for her discretion, he did not want anyone else recogn
Friedrich pushed the door to make sure, although he knew it was true what they said on TV. He did not watch this kind of shows, but lately, he was paying attention to all the gossip shows, since Dominik had decided to act like a true celebrity. After getting a copy of his client's key and persuading the manager to break his privacy policy, he managed to get the door open.He grabbed his head with both hands and cursed under his breath. The room is empty.“Damn it!” He shouted and kicked the bed.“What is going on?” Ewald asked from the door.“Dominik's gone.”“What do you mean he's gone?”“He went back to Los Angeles looking for that girl.”“How come?” Ewald looked around the room, hoping this was some kind of prank.“Just like he did at the airport when we came to America, same as he did during that press conference. Dominik in an escape artist” Friedrich broke a sweat.“Excuse me, sir” somebody's voice said from the door that made him look. “They left this at the front desk for Frie
The moonlight seeped in through the window of the JW Marriot Chairman suite, lighting the lovers who were about to consummate their love. Their eyes could not decide where to look, there was so much to behold, but, albeit the nudity, there lingered a certain degree of shyness. Thousands of emotions made, little by little, to both, man and woman, join in tender kisses that became wild indulgence of passion. Unique sensations that pushed them to the brink of sanity, threatening with addiction of tasting the body of a significant other.Samanta bit her lips when she noticed Dominik's tattoos. Tribals covered his arms and some greek lettering crossed his lower abdomen. He was a stunning man. Every muscle was defined, he had such a white skin he seemed made of white chocolate.“You're the most beautiful thing I have ever seen” whispered Dominik, pulling Sam out of her dreamland. He came closer to her and leaned in, spreading kisses along her neck.“Thank you” she muttered, unable to stop a
Tears poured from her eyes. It was hard to breathe. Her heart was racing, but she felt life escaping her body. She could not believe, once again, Alan's shadow was hurting her. Her past came back, like a voracious beast, trying to destroy the happiness she had worked so hard to rebuild. She dried her tears in anger and headed towards the room. She picked her clothes off the floor and got dressed. She needed to get out.Remembering the look in Dominik's eyes made her heart split in two. IT was charged with disappointment and he wouldn't even let hr explain herself. That hurt. Even more than all those horrible memories.«How did they even know?», she wondered. The people who knew she went to Narconon were Teresa and Carlos. She opened her eyes in awe, contemplating the possibilities.«Carlos».She felt rage taking over her. He had betrayed her because she rejected him. She was feeling a mix of sadness and anger, and, it certainly, did not feel good. She left the hotel fast as she could
I turned to the man who was talking to me. There was something in that voice that made me evoke a thousand memories. I looked at him carefully for a while, because although his face was very familiar to me, I couldn't place him. I opened my eyes like saucers and my heart stopped for a fraction of a second when I recognized the owner of those green eyes that were looking at me. In front of me was the personification of all my fears, traumas and insecurities. The man who served as a benchmark to compare all the people who came into my life after him. It was a beautiful vision, and at the same time a nightmare come true. “Antoine,” I said his name with difficulty. If the mere memory of him stirred up a lot of emotions in me, can you imagine “what his presence did to me?” The imposing figure of a six-foot-tall man lay before me. His eyes were greener than I remembered them and he had a beautiful smile (the one that brought out a couple of dimples in his cheeks) plastered on his face. He
I shook my head hard to concentrate on my friend's voice. She kept talking, but I stopped listening to her for a moment because I was thinking about Harvey, the gorgeous blond I met two months ago on one of my many girls' outings with Gabrielle, and who I started dating four weeks ago. He was divorced and had two young children. All my life I was reluctant to have anything with a man with children, because my policy was always: If I can buy a new car, ¿why buy a used one? This thought became ingrained in me as a result of living with my stepmother. It's not that our relationship was bad, but I remember a couple of times I tried to make her life miserable, just for fun. I was afraid that divine justice would take its toll on me for those years of rebellion and headaches I'd caused Valerie. But there was something about Harvey that appealed to me so much. He was very direct and upfront. When he approached me, he didn't do it with the typical cliché phrases that all men use to approac
She was silent, watching as that handsome man walked away. She didn't understand why she couldn't stop looking at him. She had seen handsome men many times. His father lived surrounded by them. Athletic men with heart-stopping butts. However, there was something about… Damn! h e didn't tell her his name a n d h e wanted very much t o know. h e hit his forehead as h e remembered how h e treated him. "How stupid I am. At this rate, I'm going t o be alone." She couldn't help but feel like a fool for being so rude t o him. Perhaps his intentions were sincere… or perhaps not. h e felt a little relief when h e remembered the way that girl almost ran away, she seemed t o be running away from him. Maybe h e was a lout a n d deserved every one of his mistreatment.Anyway, h e decided not t o think about it a n ymore. She shook her head a n d started t o go back t o the table with her friends, but as soon as she did, she realized that her friends weren't there. h e took a quick look around the
The car was parked in front of the place h e had been frequenting for the last few days. It was a good place t o dance (he loved t o dance) a n d have a couple of drinks in the company of a pretty woman. h e met Melanie in New York a n d since then she accompanied him o n his tour. That's how h e wanted it, a n d although August didn't need the woman who was willing t o have a good time with him, she was perfect, because she was funny a n d undramatic. (At least it seemed that way at first) I didn't understand how his attitude changed in a matter of three days.He shook his head a n d cleared his mind. I didn't want t o think about that. h e was ready t o celebrate that night h e appeared in the place h e had dreamed of for so many years. For every illusionist, the MGM Grand Garden Arena was a statement that h e was reaching the pinnacle of his career. His parents knew it a n d that i s why they traveled from Scotland t o accompany him. Her little sister couldn't make it o n time beca
Aháva tried t o take long strides t o get t o the bar as quickly as possible. The club was packed a n d people seemed t o be possessed by some kind of demon of lust, as they groped each other while dancing grotesquely. The blonde looked at the couple o n her right a n d couldn't help but shudder. Could it be that they did not know about the existence of hotels? God! She didn't understand why she agreed t o go t o that place with her friends, if she never liked going t o places like that. She was more of mountains, rivers a n d beaches. h e liked t o be in contact with nature while enjoying the silence or reading a good book. I had known Lauren, Jessica, a n d Alicia since I was eight years old. h e had just moved with his parents t o California. They lived in the same neighborhood a n d went t o the same school. "All the way down, all the way down, all the way down," they yelled in unison. The girls tried t o encourage the youngest of all t o drink the entire contents of her glass in one sip. However, the blonde with green eyes could not do it, because she did not like the taste of tequila or a n y alcoholic beverage. I didn't understand how there were people who drank liquor until their livers dried up, if the taste of alcoholic beverages was so awful. She licked her lips, wrinkled her nose, a n d put the glass back o n the table.Aháva grimaced a n d wiped the corner of her lip with the back of her hand.-I do not can. Hearing the applause of his audience as h e walked offstage was undoubtedly his favorite thing since his father gave him a cape, top hat, a n d wand for his tenth birthday. h e decided t o dedicate himself t o illusionism when that afternoon at his grandmother's house, a magnificent magician left him speechless by drawing a dove o n a small blackboard a n d then shaking it a n d taking out a royal dove. One month after.Dominik glanced at Carlos surreptitiously a n d Carlos nodded, indicating that everything was ready. Charlotte could not suppress the small smile that came from her lips, because she knew perfectly well what was going t o happen next. She was also Weigand's accomplice. Samantha gave her friend a confused a n d questioning look."They say that h e who laughs alone remembers his pranks," she mumbled, poking the blonde's side with a finger.Charlotte laughed out loud."I'm just happy t o have married a wonderful man," the Polish woman commented, scanning her surroundings with her eyes. The garden looked beautiful, decorated in a vintage style with turquoise, white a n d silver decorations. Just two hours ago, Charlotte a n d Carlos had said "Yes, I do", in front of family a n d closest friends. Samantha was the maid of honor, a n d Dominik was the best man.
