Chapter 4

My arms were trembling from strain and agony as I gently sat up. My muscles ached because I hadn't moved in a long. I removed the sticky pads from my chest and heard a muffled beeping coming from down the corridor. I pulled the IV out and made an effort to stand. Before falling and using the wall as support, I managed to take two steps. I was pleading with my leg and ribs to sit down.

I limped to the door and twisted the lock on the knob while supporting myself on the wall with my right hand and my left arm.

Two sets of footsteps that were coming my way were audible. A male and a female, one was hefty and the other light. I swiftly turned around out of panic. I let go of the wall with my hand and fell over on my leg. I attempted to balance myself on my other leg, but it was unable to support the full weight, and I collapsed to the ground.

The two sets of footfall grew louder, indicating a closer distance. I stood up shakily and limped back to the bed. I seized the necessary IV, ripped it away from the tube, and used it like a weapon. Then I hobbled over to the window. When I yanked on the window's side with my hands, nothing happened. I also tried the other side, but it remained stationary.

The footsteps halted at my door, and I could hear their hushed voices and make out their silhouettes through the door's bottom crack. When the knob was turned, the door remained closed and simply jiggled.

"Get a doctor now." When I heard a low voice identify as male, one of the shadows quickly descended from where they had come from. I frantically attempted to open the window as the male continued to jiggle the door knob, this time more forcefully.

"Flip the door open." He said once more. I continued to try to open the window while ignoring him. He started pounding his shoulder into it and banging on it. The door's wood began to split, indicating that it was breaking.

My breathing was pouring out of my jeans, and my heart began to beat more quickly. I reached for the chair next to the bed and shakily hoisted it above my head, threatening to smash the window. A man ran towards me out of the corner of my eye as the door crashed down.

As he yanked the chair out of my hands, I screamed. My actions were "Open the door," despite my attempts to stab him with the IV needle. He said once more. As he yanked the chair out of my hands, I screamed. Although my movements were slower than usual, I still attempted to stab him with the IV needle. He effortlessly grabbed my wrist and wrenched the needle out of my hand. He was stronger than me, so despite my repeated screams and attempts to fight him off. He gently held me while attempting to avoid hurting me.

Hello there! Settle down! You won't be hurt by me. I jerked my arms out of his hold.

Don't get close to me.

I barked.

POV of Jennifer When I heard the purr of a car approaching from a distance of a few kilometers, I realized I had to begin traveling back. By listening to the noises the car was making, you could almost hear how pricey it was. He was the fabled Alpha that everyone was talking about, so I knew it had to be him. No one would need to return to this region because there was nothing nearby for miles. I would know because I've been foraging and attempting to memorize the area for the past week.I turned my head to the west, where the car was approaching from. The distant Talk Mountains almost seemed to be tempting me to sprint over to them. I only had to move quickly. I could get away from the Alpha's rule and the pack. There was nobody nearby or in the area to stop me. I only needed to be more careful the following time to avoid getting caught in order for me to be free. Not me. I could have, but I didn't. I turned around and went back the other way, east. Running would have been a gesture
