How they save the princess.
It was a warm afternoon at the high school, and the students were waiting for their teacher to arrive. Some were chatting, others were lost in their own thoughts. But two best friends, Jill and April, had their attention focused on one person in particular - the young man near the window who was staring at the blue sky as if he was the main character in an anime.
Jill had a crush on the guy, and she would say that he was her first love. It was obvious from the way she acted around him - a short glance followed by a shy smile before returning to her conversation with April.
"Do you think he's cute?" Jill asked her friend.
"Definitely," April replied. "I know a few girls who have a crush on him, including Angela, Gina, and Sophie."
Jill sighed, "That's a lot."
"Yeah, but it's not surprising. He's smart, has good grades, and there's just something mysterious about him," April explained.
"Wow, sounds like you like him," Jill teased.
"No way, Jill," April exclaimed. "I'm just saying, it's easy to see why so many girls are attracted to him."
Jill wondered why she couldn't just talk to him. But as a born Filipina girl, she was taught that it wasn't proper to make the first move.
April suggested, "Why don't you talk to him after class today? You two are both cleaners, right?"
Jill rolled her eyes, "I hope it's that easy for you to say. How did you even start dating JM?"
April smiled as she reminisced, "We were childhood friends, and over time our feelings just grew. It was a mutual thing, and we just decided to take a chance."
Jill wished it was that easy for her. "I hope I can be brave enough to talk to him," she said with a sigh.
April patted her friend's back, "Just be yourself, Jill. He's bound to notice you eventually."
With that, the two friends continued to wait for their teacher, each lost in their own thoughts about the mysterious young man by the window.
April giggled and looked at her friend. "Obviously him, there's no way I would dare do that. It's too embarrassing."
"Wow, you're one lucky girl," Jill replied enviously.
But their plans were disrupted by the arrival of their teacher, five minutes late. The class began and time crawled by. A two pm class was always quiet with students attentively listening to the teacher and birds chirping outside. The eight-hour school day felt like an eternity. Unlike most students, Jill was focused on her studies, as her family relied on her to succeed. She sighed and stole a glance at the guy she liked.
"Jill? Jill? Wayne is leaving!" April shook her friend out of her daze. The class had ended and the room was being emptied. "I'll call him out, okay?"
"Wait for me!" Jill followed April as she called out to Wayne.
"WAYNE! WAIT UP! OI WAYNE!" April shouted, but he couldn't hear them.
"Maybe some other time," Jill said disappointedly.
"Or maybe now!" April grabbed her hand and the two chased after him, weaving through the crowds of students leaving the school.
The gates were opened, and students rushed out in a hurry. "Do you still see him?" April asked.
"Yes," Jill stuttered, watching Wayne surrounded by girls. "That girl is up to no good again..."
"What do you mean?" April asked.
"Look," Jill nervously pointed. "We have to follow them."
"Are you sure? You know her history. She's been suspended a couple of times," April warned.
"I know... but who knows what might happen to him," Jill said, unable to ignore the thought of Wayne being in danger.
The two followed the group outside the school compound and turned right into the forest beside the school. "Do you think they're going to harm him, Jill?" April whispered fearfully.
"Don't talk like that," Jill whispered in disgust. "Don't jinx it..."
"You're really serious when you're worried, Jill," April said.
They stood by and watched as Wayne was beaten mercilessly. Despite their urge to help, they knew that intervening would only make things worse. Anastasia's rage was palpable and even Jill was struggling to contain her anger at the sight of Wayne's suffering. April was the only one among them who had combat training, but her physique was not as tough as Anastasia's. April tried her best to hold back Jill from rushing in to save Wayne.
"This isn't our concern," April said. "I don't want to risk my life for someone I don't even consider important."
"But he's important to me," Jill replied, her eyes welling up with tears. "If anything happens to him, I'll be devastated."
April sighed. "That's a flawed argument," she said, but then stopped mid-sentence as she saw the extent of the beating Anastasia was giving Wayne. Jill was ready to charge in, but April grabbed her and pulled her close, covering her eyes. "This is just so wrong," April muttered under her breath.
April scanned the area for something to defend herself with. Her eyes landed on a broken armchair and she quickly decided it would be her weapon. She picked it up and checked for any dangerous edges or nails, then looked up at Jill. "This one is for you, Jill," she said, giving her a warm hug before rushing into the fray.
The scene was chaos. Wayne was being beaten by Anastasia and her friends, but April was determined to save him. She took advantage of their distraction and approached from behind. With a fierce shout, she swung the armchair at Kyna, landing a direct hit to the temple that knocked her down.
The two remaining attackers were momentarily stunned by Kyna's fall, giving April the opportunity to address them. "Fight someone your own size!" she challenged Anastasia.
April looked around for something she could use to fight. A branch, a broken armchair, or a stone were her options. She chose the armchair because it was lightweight, sturdy, and non-fatal. She examined it carefully to make sure there were no nails or sharp edges.
“Normally, I wouldn’t care. But this one is for you, Jill.” April turned to her friend, who gave her a warm hug before she rushed towards the scene.
In a time and place where danger was omnipresent, April was determined to save Wayne, the prince in distress. Although they outnumbered her, April had the element of surprise on her side. They were too distracted to notice her approaching from behind. Her first swing was aimed at Kyna, hitting her temple with enough force to knock her down. The two friends beside her were shocked to see Kyna fall.
“Fight someone your own size!” April shouted to Anastasia, who quickly reacted but was too late. April threw the broken armchair, which flew like a boomerang and hit Anastasia, knocking her down as well.
Pacia, who was on the ground, got up but froze when she saw what had happened. April rushed to Wayne and offered him her hand.
“Come on, let’s go!” she said, trying to lead him to safety.
He took her hand and they both fled from the danger. Anastasia wasn’t knocked out, and she quickly got up. Jill saw this from a distance and blew the whistle that had been given to them in 7th grade. It worked effectively, and they stopped chasing them.
“Why did you save me?” Wayne asked.
“We called you because you never showed up for the Tuesday cleaners. When we saw you in trouble, we followed you because that’s what good classmates do,” Jill explained.
“That’s a good point, but it still doesn’t make sense,” Wayne replied.
Jill simply giggled and walked past him. “Follow me, let’s go somewhere else!”

You have a secret "So, this is where you wanted to go?" Wayne asked, looking around the Milk Tea café where Jill had brought him. It was a popular spot for couples, with its green matcha-inspired décor and round tables and chairs. Despite his initial discomfort, he had agreed to come here. "I never go to places like this," he admitted, taking in the sights and sounds of people flirting around him. "Well, it's good for our first date," Jill said with a blissful smile on her face. "Who said this was a date?" Wayne raised an eyebrow in confusion. He had never been on a date before, and he didn't think this was one. "No one. Hehe," Jill giggled, her confidence masking the anxiety she felt inside. She tried to make eye contact with him, but he was preoccupied with his surroundings. "You really find this uncomfortable?" she asked. "Especially since this place is filled with couples," Wayne replied. "But we're a couple, so there's no problem, right?" Jill teased him with a wink. "What
BASTARD Wayne arrived home later than usual, his heart heavy from the memories of the girl who had saved him earlier in the day. Despite the joy that her smile had brought him, he hesitated before opening the door to his home. He knew what awaited him inside - the monster that was his mother. The sound of the creaking door echoed in his head as he stepped inside and saw her sitting in the chair, facing the entrance. Her furrowed brow and tense posture indicated her anger. "Where have you been?" she said, her voice full of rage. Before Wayne could even begin to explain, his mother raised her hand and delivered a sharp slap to his cheek. "You bastard!" she screamed. "Where have you been?" Wayne's father appeared, his expression blank, no sign of empathy on his face. He didn't say a word and simply stood there as Wayne's mother continued her barrage of insults and accusations. "Look at your son!" she yelled, pointing at Wayne. "He's been nothing but trouble lately! He got into a fight
It was her first time to be that happy. "Jill?" April waved her hand in front of Jill's trance-like state. "Earth to Jill? Are you there?" She tried to get her friend's attention, but there was no response. April was starting to get worried. She had never seen Jill like this before. She tried patting her head, clapping her hands, and even gave her a soft slap to try and bring her back to reality, but nothing seemed to work. The last time April had seen Jill smile like this was at the silent sanctuary concert they had attended. Although April wasn't sure what could have happened to bring Jill to this state, she had a hunch it was related to something that had occurred the day before. "Jill? Come on, snap out of it!" April tried again, using her best friend's full name. "Jillian Silvia Magdalo?" Finally, after several attempts of calling her name and waving her hands in front of her face, Jill came back to reality. "Yes? How long was I out?" she asked. "Long enough for me to get bor
Romance starts with friendship She ran as if it were the end of the world. She looked weary, but the smile didn't seem to match the picture. Joy smirked, "I have a hunch, but I'm not sure." April rolled her eyes and replied, "I bet you're right." Instead of heading to the school gates, Jill turned and headed northwest. The gates were the last place she wanted to be right now, with too many procedures and the need to bribe the guard with a pack of cigarettes. She wasn't a runner, but she sprinted like a cheetah, sneaking past the guidance counselor's office. Behind it was a wall with a hole in it, likely made by a student. It was an escape route used by students who wanted to skip class. Jill successfully made it through the small entrance. Suddenly, she bumped into someone. Fortunately, it was only a light impact and she didn't fall. The young girl, Ashley, offered to go first, "You should go first, sorry about that." "Oh, Ashley," Jill recognized her immediately. She didn't have t
He looks cute when he's being teased. It was a typical day and Jill felt exhausted. The two stood in front of a shopping mall, its green and yellow exterior advertising its brand name. The mall was quiet, as students in school uniform were not permitted to shop during school hours due to its close proximity to the school. "Hey, can you hold my bag for a second?" Wayne asked as he handed over his bag to Jill. She took the bag, though she was unsure why he had asked her to do so. "I’ll have to buy something," he added. "One more thing," Wayne said, looking a bit sheepish. "I was hoping I could check the size of your shirt." Jill's eyes widened in surprise as Wayne reached out to touch her collar. "What are you doing?" she asked, stepping back and pulling away from him. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable," Wayne apologized, looking away in embarrassment. "I just want to buy you a t-shirt. You can't walk around in your school uniform," he explained, trying to make am
-FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS- The ambiance was that of a small cafe, with a few tables and chairs spread out in the room. The walls were painted a pale yellow, and there were several framed paintings of landscapes and still-life scenes hanging on them. The lighting was dim, and the air was filled with the scent of fresh coffee and baked goods. Soft jazz music played in the background, adding to the relaxed atmosphere. Jill and Wayne were seated at a small table near the window. They were surrounded by other patrons, some reading newspapers, others chatting with friends, and a few typing on laptops. It was clear that this was a popular spot for people to come and unwind. As Jill and Wayne talked, the sound of their voices mixed with the gentle hum of activity around them. Jill's words were laced with a hint of frustration, while Wayne's were filled with surprise and innocence. Despite the tension between them, there was a sense of comfort in their conversation, as if they were old friends
--JM, April’s boyfriend -- It wasn’t ber months but why does those air feels cold? “Today was a hectic day, Jill!” April complained. There was a long sigh as she plants her head on her best friend’s shoulder. She looked weary and restless. “Ma’am Abueg is such as sadist! She gave all those difficult activities without even giving us more examples.” The two was on their way home, the tricycle was the daily form of commute especially they were miles away from school. They passed the endless road covered with rice paddings. The mountain was shaped perfectly and one would gaze at it’s majestic peak but for them, it’s nothing new. The rocky road track that government promise to fixed last election, the barking dogs that kills little children and even the creepy eyes as you walked alone. That’s one of the reasons why they commute on a day-to-day basis.
—The door which they called for help— Some memories are inked into one’s brain, unable to erase or remove it. “Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelp!” A wailing voice was heard at the end of a hallway. “Opeeeeen the doooor!” It was a sorrowful and blue echo of voices. Everything was dark and gloom but the pathway was visible even though wasn’t present light. “Someone please! Open the door!” They continued to ask for help. The sound came from the door on the other side. He was being called to open it, despite the huge sign that says stop! Do not open it. It kept asking for help. The longer he waits, the desperate the call was. “Open the door, let us through!” The voice never stops. “Heeeeeeelp meeeh” He knew the familiar voice, the irritating voice that he regrets to hear. It wouldn’t stop pleading for help. He felt a heavy weigh on hi
Her Fears“When will you do it?” Jill’s eyes roamed, settling on her best friend in the distance. A significant span had passed since the two engaged in a heartfelt conversation.“Tomorrow, I’ve made up my mind,” Wayne declared.“Why not now?” Jill’s urgency cut through. “I want to know the answer.”“Chill, will you,” Wayne requested, a hint of nervousness creasing his expression. “Give me time to prepare myself.”“I guess I should also prepare myself,” she replied, a tinge of sadness in her tone. “But to be honest, I don’t think April is in the right mind.” She conveyed her concern.“What gives?” he asked.“Well, it feels like she’s been keeping a distance from us,” Jill observed. “Something must have happened.”“You think?” Wayne wondered, acknowledging the changes he, too, had noticed.Jill's concern echoed with sincerity. "Yeah, I do hope it’s nothing worse," she expressed, her genuine worry etched on her face. "She's already been through the worst breakup of her life. I know she’
What lies ahead Exams had arrived, casting a blissful spell upon the air. Jill and Wayne found themselves seated together on the grass, their gaze fixed on the open field bustling with fellow high school students. Jill turned toward Wayne, her curiosity getting the better of her. "What do you want to do next? Are you still staying here?" Wayne nodded, a small smile gracing his lips. "Yeah." "That's good to hear. Another school year with you," Jill teased, a playful raise of her eyebrow adding to the moment. "Oh my God, now that you're looking at me like that, I'm beginning to regret my decision," Wayne replied, shaking his head. "Eeeh? Don't be like that," Jill continued to playfully banter. "But I guess school's kinda fun when you're around," he admitted, a warm smile of appreciation lighting up his face. "This semester was unexpectedly fun." "Never imagined the day I would be able to talk with you. I guess all it took was luring you using April, oops," she said, slipping up a
FORGIVENESS THAT HE THOUGHT HE COULDN’T GIVE There was still an hour left before he met his father, but Wayne wanted to leave already. The class was still ongoing as he waited. He was bothered with questions, he did say that he wanted to talk to him, which was something that rarely happens. He assumed that he already went back and heard the news, but what now? Will he call him to come home or disown him? He was troubled the whole time. The classroom was quiet, there wasn't much to do. The teacher writes the lesson on the board, while students copy it without question. Jill noticed the weary Wayne, she tapped on his shoulder to ask what’s wrong. “Are you okay? You seem troubled. Do you want to share your problem?” Asked Jill. The young man looked away, avoiding the answer to the question. But he knew Jill would keep buzzing about it, and so after 20 pokes on his cheeks he opened up. “My fathe
Grateful The midterm was just two days ahead. Students cramping to review to finish the project before the deadlines was a common sight to see. April was one of the tardy student who only does her school requirements few days before the given sate. Alongside with Hori and Joy, the two kept bugging Jill. It was 7 am in the morning. The number of students walking in the pathway keep growing. All had the same depressing eyes, exams weren’t a fan favorite in the school, except for smart ass students. But majority of the student in their school was bunch of students having no clue on what they wanted in the future. Joy sighed when she saw Aizen on the school grounds. She was avoiding him for weeks, and somehow hope that he would come visit her out of concern. Thus, she realized there’s no point of chasing him, the guy he likes clearly has no feelings for her. But deep inside Joy feelings remained solid, but not bright enough for her to confessed. The girl sulk and went back
I’ll love you until I can Jill reached the address that Anastasia sent. The girl wondered how she knew about it this place, and how come Wayne told the little girl before herself. It’s her first time A sense of jealousy spark inside her, she pouted before she approached the gates. There must be some reason why’s she’s here? The girl pondered. She had the gist that the two started living, and her reaction was flushed and slightly annoyed when she thought of it. “I better find it out myself.” She shook her head and opened the gates. Everything felt surreal, yesterday was a painful rejection but a light of hope when he said it was possible. That alone gave her hope to keep going, the two hasn’t started to confess yet, and thus she believed that she had a chance. He was probably tried to be nice, but that didn’t faze Jill. She loved him for a long time, and he couldn’t simply just back out. Unless he
Give her a chance “I wonder why he’s absent?” Jill wondered. The girl sat on his chair with the same pose he usually those. It was the old corner in t he back close near the windows, the young man stares in the window while girls that passed by wonders what goes on inside his head. She ignored the random blabbering of her teacher and sulked while thinking of him. April noticed her gloomy friend and decided to sneak beside her. She sat on Jill’s friends; her blank state best friend didn’t notice her until she tapped her shoulder. “Are you okay?” She concerningly asked. Jill stared at the window for a second, she thought about the days they used to hang out, the fun memories, and dates. The girl realized the ephemeral and couldn’t to pout because of it. Everything can turn upside down, life is short, and consistently moving. She sighed and ignored April’s words. Agitated, the impatience friend wanted to smack her in the head. But realize the love sick she had, she already had a glim
THANKFUL “Farewell mother, I am shutting you from my life from now on.” Wayne left before the sun had set. It was pitch dawn, he carried his backpack and walked outside the house. He didn’t look back, his memories from his home were nothing but fear, pain and suffering. The young man partially limps as he felt the pain from the beating that he got. It swollen badly, but he kept walking away. He finally got a place to rest when he reached the closest terminal. The young man waited for a ride. He sat on empty bench with flickering lights above. He sighed and laid his body. It was nothing but peaceful, he thought about freedom. The young man sees himself like a bird who escape the cage of abuse. “Sir are you heading somewhere?” It took a while before a tricycle arrived. “Yes, take me to my sanctuary.” Wayne picked up his belonging and told the driver his address. The young man got in, he was brought the place were told
Feelings “Jill? What if I told you that I like him?” April curiously asked. The girl looked at Jill who laid in her shoulder, she took a nap and remind her best friend to wake her up once they reach their house. She didn’t except her response, but Jill heard it clearly. The girl opened her eyes and respond. “That’s kinda dumb April. You just said it yourself, and don’t even try to deny.” April looked down; she avoided looking at her friends’ eyes. She wondered what would happen if she and Wayne started dating. Wayne as a boyfriend, I guess I would be a fool if I said no. He played an important role on my break. He would probably be good lover. She reflected back to their kiss, his soft lips, the expected reaction he had. April bit her lips and giggled. “Maybe it wouldn’t be that bad.” “What?” But she soon regrets
The Monster inside his home. He walked home with expectations. The face of her angered mother, the slap that he would get, the harsh words he’ll receive. He smiled bitterly. He tired of the same shit, the absolute rules and the controlling palm of her mother. He never obeyed her in the first place, he never once became the kind child she expected to be. The son a mother would boast in front of their peers, a son who would prove that they are a good mother. All he did was disobey and rebel, thus the feeling of hate between them was mutual. He knew that, and he expected those response. “I’m already fucked up, why bother following the fucked-up rules?” He told himself. Clenched jaw and curled lip, he had enough of his mother. He wanted to stand up for himself. To end the night of horror, to be free from the anxiety that he has each night. Mother is the cata
