Rosetta's POV

I stood in front of the apartment building I had got, finally furnished with everything I needed. One thing I was grateful for was the fact that I was smart enough to buy some stocks a few years ago.

Justin spoke about the stock market a lot and I wanted to get it for him as our anniversary gift that year, but thankfully he just had to throw me in prison a week before that. And, the stocks doubled the amount I initially expected it to be by now, twice.

I lost myself in smoking while leaning against the rooftop to have a good view of the city. I have never appreciated something this much like I was doing now, and it was just sweet to finally be free from the dolled up life I was living.

Maybe going to prison might be a bad thing for others, but it was good for me. It made me wake up to reality and made me stronger than I used to be.

Putting out the cigarette in my hand into the ashtray, I walked out of my apartment and down the block to get something in the grocery store just across the street.

Stepping into the store, I could see the place wasn't as busy as I thought it would be. Walking down the aisle to get the things I needed, I suddenly bumped into someone.

“Damn it.” I cursed as my card went flying to the ground along with my phone.

“I'm so sorry.” A low baritone voice said. The tone was deep and stomach fluttering but I wasn't affected by one hit and just glared up at the individual who had bumped into me.

“Watch where you're going, will you?” I snapped, not refusing to show my irritation, despite the fact that he was good looking and handsome. “Damn it. Reason I'm starting to hate people.”

He didn't say anything and just watched as I picked up my fallen items which only made me more mad than I already was. He should be the one picking it up for me, and yet there he was, standing and staring at me like I was some goods on discount.

“I really am–”

“Keep it.” I snarled, not looking in his direction before I stormed out of the place. Why do people just think that because they seem better than others they have to do things without common etiquette?

Walking over to the counter, I went to pay for my stuff and again, I bumped into the same person and I just wanted to curse out loud but I just ignored him and walked out of the place.

My mood was already ruined and I just wanted to beat something up, but my murderous intent was interrupted by the buzzing of my phone. “Rosetta Miller speaking.”

“Miss Rosetta, your offer to buy J&K foods has been approved. Would you like to come over today to settle the transfer of ownership?” The speaker on the other side of the phone offered. A smile of satisfaction appeared on my lips at the news.

“I'll be there right away.”

I soon arrived in front of the medium sized skyscraper, getting out of the taxi. Walking into the building, I scanned the environment, trying to take in the place I would be the owner of from now on.

I was able to negotiate a few millions of dollars for this company which hasn't been doing well for over a decade that it had been built, and was at the verge of closing down. So, why not just sell it out instead?

“Miss Rosetta.” The owner of the building who was waiting for my arrival bowed as he led me up to his office to deal with everything needed.

“Are you sure you want to get it and continue the business? You can change it if you like–”

“Thank you for your concern, but I would like to continue with it.” I smiled as much as I could before completing the paperworks and every necessary thing.

The first phase of my revenge plan was already in motion. I had a lot of ideas that had been a hit for Justin and Miller a lot of times, and none of my ideas ever went down the drain. Theodore trying to manipulate them made it end up the way it was.

“I'll be keeping most of the workers from their past files and letting some go.” I said, dropping the files and ready to get started with my new plan.

Standing on the production floor, everything I had planned for was going well. The first project I was working on was even going better than I had anticipated.

I was still lost in thoughts when my phone buzzed and I looked down to see the last contact I was expecting to see. Justin.

Memories of the past rushed into my memories and I just wanted to smash the phone if it would get him out of my life completely, but I had to remind myself that cutting him off wouldn't help me exact my revenge on him.

“What is it?” I asked, quite coldly.

“I'm in front of your workplace, let's talk.” He said, not waiting for a reply before hanging up.

My workplace? How did he know I was here? I haven't officially taken over publicly since I wanted this to be a surprise and my heart thumped. Was my surprise attack going to fail?

Even if it did get out, there was no way he would know it was me. Walking out of the building, I could see him standing in front of the cafe opposite the building.

He looked as elegant and handsome as ever, but one thing was certain, I would never fall for his charm, ever again. No matter how hard he tried to use it against me. Looking at him, I wanted to yell, scream and stab him across the chest if it would make him feel the same pain I felt when he cheated on me after five years of marriage. If that would make him feel the betrayal and heartbreak I felt when he threw me into jail for five years just for his mistress.

“So what do you want to talk about?” I said as soon as I got to him and his gaze raked me from head to toe.

“So it's true. You really had a glow up and you're now working in a soon to be bankrupt company. You've gone low after your release, Rosetta.” He said and I wanted to burst out laughing but one thing was, he didn't know about the company yet.

“And why would it bother you if I was working in some bankrupt place?” I asked, crossing my arms against my chest as I looked into the almost empty cafe.

“I understood you made Lisa have a miscarriage because you were jealous of her being able to have a child and you're not, but that's all in the past now. Just because you got back from jail doesn't mean you have to live a scrappy life, living with someone and now this soon to close down company. Come work for me. Sell your ideas to me and you can make a better living through it.” He yapped on as I just stared at him.

These people really think I was the same lady as before I was sent to prison. It made me want to laugh but I didn't, and just let him finish before standing up.

“If that's all you have to say, I'm leaving.” I replied, turning to leave but he grabbed my hand and it took all the strength in me to hold myself back from slapping him hard across the face.

“Stop being so difficult, Rosetta. I am offering you this much for your ideas which no one would buy for this price even after going to prison for mur–”

“Shut it Justin.” I cut him off plainly. “I've had enough of your shit, you son of a bitch. Get the fuck out of my sight right now or I'll skin you alive. I got rid of your child? Ask the bitch why termination pills were found in her bags when I was cleaning up a few days before she framed me.”

And without another word, I stormed out of his presence in anger, leaving him speechless on the spot.
