NICOLE’S POV:

"Your baby is fine. You just need to get some rest and avoid stress," Dr. Chua says.

I feign relief, and silently praise myself and the doctor for our acting skills, which looks very believable even to an intelligent lawyer like Marius.

Marius’ shoulders relax a fraction, which makes me happy.

“I have to go now,” Marius says without so much of a glance at me.

"Marius, please," I beg, reaching out to him. "Can you stay a little longer? For the baby's sake?"

His face says he’s gonna refuse, but before he can voice it out, Dr. Chua intercepts.

"It would be best if you stay, Mr. Thorne. Nicole needs a calm environment, and your presence would be beneficial for her and your baby."

Marius sighs, but unable to argue. "Fine. I'll stay. But stop saying ’your baby’. The baby isn't mine until a DNA test proves otherwise."
