CHAPTER EIGHTY-FIVE: Moving On

I can't believe I’m mourning Carter, the man I once despised the most, as much as I am now. But we shared some great memories that don’t deserve to be forgotten.

I’ve been trying to visit Carter’s grave for days, but the Whitlock's bodyguards always turn me away. Today is no different. They stand firm, blocking my path.

"Please," I beg. "I just want to leave these flowers."

One of the guards shakes his head. “You’re not welcome here.”

Frustration wells up inside me, but I just turn away. I know better than to waste my time and energy arguing.

Back at home, I sit in my therapist's temporary office, feeling a sense of relief. My treatment is working; the nightmares have faded, and my distress is lessening. On top of it all, my relationship with Marius significantly improves.

And we're now planning our wedding.

Though our fathers are very supportive of it, Betty makes it very clear she doesn't want me as her daughter-in-law.

Papa invites Marius and his parents for dinner tonight
