Chapter 3

After Nicholas walked away, it took a long while to everyone come to their senses. They didn't expect Nicholas to make objection at his father's decision so bluntly. Even Andrew didn't dare to do so in all his life.

However, they understood that Nicholas had been away from home for so many years, so it might not be easy to impose their decisions on him easily.

George clenched his fists tightly without saying a word. He couldn't understand why Nicholas disliked Olivia so much after just one meeting. He chose Amyra for Andrew and always felt proud on his decision seeing how dedicated she was towards his family and business.

That's why, when she proposed marriage between Nicholas and Olivia, he gave his consent without any hesitation. But now he felt bad to see the unhappy expression on Amyra's face after hearing Nicholas's refusal.

Seeing the angry look on George's face, Shelley was afraid of disputes between her husband and her son, so she tried to comfort George by saying, "He came home only today so it's not good to urge him to get married so soon. If he doesn't like Olivia, then we should not force him to marry her."

"Do you want to wait until he brings home a girl who has no match with our standard, Shelley?" George asked his wife while trying his best to suppress his anger.

Shelley's heart trembled hearing her husband's words as she realised that he might already know the secret that she had his from everyone so far. She didn't remember when was the last time she saw her husband so angry. She didn't dare to say another word fearing he might reveal that secret in front of everyone.

George felt bad to talk to his own wife in this way as soon as he noticed how afraid she was. Others might think him to be selfish for marrying his son for business benefits but for him, it was his only way to never let him leave the house again. Although he didn't know the real reason why Nicholas left home 5 years ago, but he was sure, something must have happened because of of which he left his college studies mid-way and fled to california suddenly.

By his experience in his life, he guessed that it might have to do something with a girl &whom Nicholas liked. He didn't want to same thing happen again,

However, he couldn't deny that what Shelley said was right. He should not have asked Nicholas to marry Olivia in such a straightforward manner. But there was no turning back now. Nicholas have already rejected Olivia, so there was nothing he could do now.

He knew if Nicholas has decided to marry at his own will, there was no way to change his mind. Now, all he could hope was that the girl Nicholas choose for himself doesn't disappoint them.

Seeing everyone in trance, George said while looking at his wife, "Let's put this matter aside for now. It's too late now. Everyone should have rest now."

After saying this, he walked towards his room. Shelley sighed a breath of relief and followed her husband in their room. Andrew and Amyra also left leaving Jenny and grandmother in the hall.

"How excited I was earlier when George told me that he has finalised the girl for Nicholas. I was expecting to be a great-grandmother by the next year. But see, how mercilessly this brat ruined this old woman's dreams." Gina sighed deeply and complained to Jenny with an aggrieved expression on her.

"Don't worry, Grandma. Later or sooner, brother Nicholas would get married and maybe you get a great-grandchild every year after he finds his lady love." Jenny joked and tried to comfort her grandmother.

Gina laughed at her words and said again, " But who know whether I will be alive or not to see that day. Only if Amyra was not infertile, I were a great-grandmother by now and I don't have to pin all my hopes with Nicholas."

"Sssshhhh....Please don't say this, grandma. Dad have strictly forbidden to talk on this matter. By the way, I will take you to your room. Come with me." Jenny was afraid of being eavesdropped by someone, especially Amyra or Andrew so she hurriedly led her grandmother towards her room.

Nicholas paced back and forth in his room restlessly for an hour. He knew that he had hurt his family's feelings by rejecting Olivia. But he couldn't marry her. Infact, he couldn't marry any girl, except the one he had in his heart for more than 10 years, Eliza.

He moved to California 5 years ago so that he could forget her. However, only God knew how badly he has missed her during these years. The more he tried to get rid of her memories, the more they possessed him.

While he was studying in California, there were countless girls who wanted to date him and many of them tried to get him in the bed by using all kinds of means. However, his heart and mind never allowed him to give even a second glance to those girls.

He never tried to know about Eliza from anyone or anywhere, but his heart couldn't forget her, no matter how hard he tried. And now he has understood that the deep love that has been rooted in his heart for so many years will only get stronger and stronger no matter if he stay away or close to her.

So he decided to come back and pursue her again after completing his studies. He didn't have any concerns about his professions life, because it was only a matter of time for him to conquer the business world with his capabilities.

However, to conquer the girl who stole his heart years ago might not be an easy task. For the peace of his heart, he needed to put all his efforts in persuing Eliza before he devote himself for his career.

The next day, Nicholas woke up very late in the morning and by the time he reached downstairs after taking shower, both George and Andrew had left for office. Nicholas felt some relieved as he didn't want to face his father now after their argument that happened the last night.

"Good morning, everyone." Nicholas said to his mother, grandmother and Amyra who were having breakfast in the dinning hall and took a seat.

"Let me serve you." Shelley said after she finished her breakfast and stood up but Nicholas stopped her as he said with a smile on his face," No need, mom. I can do it by myself because I am used to it."

Shelley could understand that her son had to do all the cores by himself while living in California so she nodded her head and sat down again and carefully looked how her son did everything so perfectly without anyone's help. That made her recall the days when he was dependant on her for everything. She felt happy to see that her son had finally grown up.

After finishing breakfast, Amyra asked Nicholas," What are your plans for today?"

Nicholas had planned to look for Eliza, however he didn't want anyone to know about this for the time being, so he replied casually," Nothing special. I have invited my old friends to a golf club in the evening."

"So can you please do me a favour? Your brother forgot his wallet at home. Can you please deliver it to him?" Amyra asked him as she looked at him expectant eyes.

"But you will be leaving for company office later as well. So why don't you give it to him yourself?" Nicholas asked her with confusion as he found it weird for her to trouble him for such an irrelevant thing.

Although he left shortly after Andrew and Amyra left, yet he knew that Amyra was a reasonable and responsible woman for which he admired her a lot.
