Shane had his schedule worked out nicely for the next few weeks. He would attend most of his classes in the morning and during the afternoons, he would go for his internship at MST. A month after he started there, he received his first paycheck of two thousand dollars. Shane was ecstatic when he held the cheque in his hand. Although he really wanted to spoil himself, he knew that there was something far more important that needed the money. Shane immediately went to the bank to cash in the cheque and add it to his savings. He took a look at how much he saved already and was surprised to realise that he was only up to 8000 dollars. It had been two months already and he couldn't even manage to get to ten thousand dollars. He still had more than 50 000 dollars to go if he wanted to have enough money to pay off the debt of his parents. Shane let out a sigh after he cashed in the cheque. He knew that at his current pace, there was no way he would get to the required amount in the time th
Maddie only looked at him once before she pulled the student along. Shane could see from the look in her eyes that she was kind of looking down on him. He immediately rose to his feet so that she couldn’t see him in that pathetic state anymore. “I’m sorry for walking into you,” Shane apologised again. The tall student was surprised to see that Shane was looking him dead in the eyes as he talked to him. He thought that grovelling on the ground fitted Shane better, but suddenly Shane was looking at him eye to eye. “Don’t bother with him, Gordon,” Maddie said as she quickly tugged his arm. Gordon Griqua’s eyes shifted to Maddie and nodded. The two of them walked away from Shane without bothering with him any longer. Shane, on the other hand didn’t want to let her go too soon. How could he? After all, it took him so long to lay eyes upon her again. Just as he was about to say something to the retreating couple, the other student who tried to punch him earlier, took another jab at him.
Abner Musk was enraged. He was just strolling around with Isabel when Shane suddenly decided to slap him out of the blue. He was one of the wealthier first year students at Sommerset, so he never had someone stand up to him like Shane just did. He was so used to getting his way, so it came as a surprise to him that someone didn’t fear him. Did Shane even know who he was?“You have some nerve lifting your hand to me. You must be afraid of living!” he roared. He snapped his fingers and suddenly a group of ten students, all clad in black suits, surrounded Shane. He was going to teach Shane a lesson, even if it was the last thing he did. Just then, David and a group of his friends, passed by where Shane was. When he saw what was happening, he immediately rushed to Shane’s aid. Although the two of them were enemies at first because David attacked and hospitalised Derrick, David apologised and the two of them decided to let bygones be bygones. Now that Shane was being attacked, how could
Just like that, examinations were over and the university was about to close for the winter break. However, before that could happen, Shane realised that the big day was still coming up. The day of the talent competition had arrived, and the students were buzzing with excitement at the prospect of it. Many of the students, as well as Shane, signed up for it already, so their nerves were starting to get the best of them. The morning of the competition, Shane looked at himself in his bathroom mirror. He felt a lump form in his throat. The day was finally here. He had to go on stage and perform in front of thousands of students. He wondered that since it had come to this, would he be able to go through with it? He received a text message on his phone which informed him about the time and place he should be as well as when it was his turn to perform. He took out his guitar and played 'The First Dance' for the last time in the comfort of his own room. He felt emotions wash over him as he s
Once Shane arrived backstage of the talent show, he was surrounded by dozens of other contestants. He could see some of them biting their nails with how nervous they were, while others were laughing and chatting with one another. Everyone had a slightly different demeanour. Shane was part of the group who were quite nervous since he saw the huge turnout of people earlier in the crowd. He just hoped that he wouldn’t make a fool of himself when he performed on stage. It wasn’t usually a problem for him to perform in front of a large audience, since he always had Andrew who would watch his back, but now he was all alone. This was a path that he had to walk on his lonesome if he wanted to become a man. “Fancy meeting you here,” a voice said. The voice sounded very familiar so Shane was pleasantly surprised when he saw Melissa calling out to him. She had a huge grin on her face as she looked at him. Shane relaxed a bit when he saw her face. There was just something about her presence tha
“Come now, you should stop looking at her,” Andrew said as he looked over towards his friend who laid down with his back on the ground. Shane spit out a mouthful of blood and laughed. “I guess you can only take advantage when I am distracted. You still cannot beat me fair and square,” Shane retorted. He dusted himself off and stood up to take a better look at Andrew’s neighbour. Maddison Grey, or Maddie as people knew her, was just exiting a truck that was driven by one of the most popular boys at school. She got off and kiss Caen, on the lips. The buff boy smiled from ear to ear as he thoroughly enjoyed the kiss. “Are you still so obsessed with her? Why don’t you just tell her how you feel? You know tomorrow is the last chance you would get. You still have no idea where she is going to college. Who says you will ever run into her again after we’re done with high school?” Andrew asked while getting ready to defend himself. He knew what was coming next. Shane was upset because he saw
Shane woke up the following morning, reinvigorated for the new day. He wasn’t as worried as he should be like the other learners in his class. Everyone had a knot on their stomach, because it was the day of their results. That morning Shane wanted to go over to Andrew’s as usual, but just as he was about to leave his house, he saw Andrew walking down the street over to him. Andrew was a nervous wreck. Shane couldn’t help but feel sorry for him when he saw the dark rings under his eyes. It was understandable. Andrew’s parents were successful people and they demanded nothing less than perfection from their son. That’s why they hired a private tutor for him from a very young age. Andrew did his best so he could only hope that his results would reflect that. After all, their family name was on the line. “If I didn’t know any better, I would say it is still too early for you to cry now. We still haven’t received our results yet,” Shane said as he wanted to start some banter with his frien
Shane was still inside his room when he heard someone hooting outside the house. When he looked through the window, there was an Audi R8 standing outside. Next to the car was a young boy who was grinning from ear to ear. He had the car keys in his hand and he swung it high above his head. When he saw Shane's face through the window, he called him to come out. Shane smiled when he saw the boy. Andrew just knew how to lift his spirits. Shane rushed out and heeded his parents goodbye before he went to greet his friend. "She's quite cute, isn't she," Andrew bragged to Shane. Not to sound too impressed, Shane just responded and said: "I think she might be too good for your lousy ass." Andrew bursted out laughing. He knew he could freely brag, because Shane wasn't one who would become jealous over earthly possessions. His friendship was true and the only time Shane had genuinely showed that he was jealous of Andrew was for the two months that he and Maddie used to date in the tenth grade.
